It's amazing, Mellow Gold remains Beck's magnum opus (along with the songs he recorded at that time, e.g. Fume, Totally Confused, MTV Makes Me Wanna Smoke Crack, Corvette Bummer, etc.) what an immense talent he had for songwriting at such a young age, he still is yet to top that era and it's unlikely he ever will.
Nope, I personally own Midnight Vultures, Odelay and Sea Change. I haven't actually heard Morning Phase. I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at to be honest.
same here but I love Mellow Gold, it was my introduction to his music as well as weed and LSD, and it was a combination that was impossible to resist. Still have immense nostalgia when I hear all the tracks on Mellow Gold. When Beck came out with Loser, all of my friends thought that he was high as a kite and likely on many drugs as his music seemed to suggest that fact but I was shocked to see an interview where he said "hes just not that guy".
He definitely has Dylan overtones but with his much stranger lyrics and his unique voice and take on music! Nothing wrong with influences but he’s an original talent!!
What a$hit period of time. Apparently the best times of our lives. People pissed off and the usuall attempts for romance between the classes ......never changes. Heart ache.
Its comforting to know that u don't have to speak French when performing in france.and they seem to like the American beck..not bad for a hat wearing enigma...
Thank you Asshole. You are one of the last Songwriters I still listen to. YOU are the very best of what we got left. Love ya BH
I love how he's one of the few artists that still knows his roots. He still performs his old songs without a flinch and I really love that about him.
This was my favorite song from my favorite Beck era

spoken like someone who has only listened to his early stuff and Morning Phase

just that pretty much every Beck album outdoes the one before. Mellow Gold is great but Odelay and Mutations are objectively better.
I don't see that at all, they don't even come close, but if you say so.
I really love Beck and most of his albums but I feel the same as you: his best works were during those years and Mellow GOld is his master piece.
Except from Looser, this song was something that sparked my interest in this man's music, a great artist.

Sounds like a cross between Bob Dylan and Nirvana.
The anthem of my LSD summer of '95
Beck is so amazing rock on.

I desperately hope to see Beck live one day.
Goddamn I love this song- one of the first that I learned to play and sing
“The world hasn’t ended yet, but the night is young”
Oh just you wait!
wonderful!
A one night stand in 2009 once put on a second condom, after I showed him this song.
Still not really sure why.😅

oh no doubt about that! i just meant in this live video, it sounds like he's saying ghetto
Love.
mellow gold is the only album i liked from beck.
Osiris Salgado you're missing out, but to each his own
Midnight Vultures was a very different flavor, but one that I also enjoyed. Then there's Odelay, too....
and One foot in the grave ?? no ?!
if ya like mg you'll like One foot in the grave, more of the same
It would be cool if he started playing got no mind again

anyone know what is the tuning of this song?
always thought this tune was dropped D tuning....
I think the original song from mellow gold uses a very low key, here Beck's using a normal key
the song is played at D#
what key of harmonica
What happened to the second verse??
Jaxx Sessions : "Give finger to the Rock'N'Roll singer as he dances upon your paaaycheck!....."
DieMenschMaschine85: The sales climb high through the garbage-pail sky, like a giant dildo crushing the sun...
Legend! :D
Yirmyah
Does not rise to the level of the recording that's on the CD.
who cares if they don't get it Beck...
Freefallin parts funny. If u play freefallin and pay no mind some chords are the same.Mellow gold is my favorite though.
he got kinda lame
Alison Edwards you’ve obviously have no taste in good music or art. To make such an ignorant comment
