There's been enough to do an entire series. Maybe not ones quite as awful and tasteless as some of these but I've seen so many bad tech commercials over the years, especially from the Nintendo/Sega and IBM/Apple rivalries in the 90s. Though finding them archived somewhere might not be possible.
This is the kind of retrospective that makes me painfully aware of how old I am. I actually have vivid memories of my life before personal computers, the internet, and smartphones. The story about Ellen Feiss (Apple Commercial) is that she hadn't planned to be in a commercial that day - her friend was on site for an audition. She was also dealing with severe allergies. So she was thrown in at the last minute. The "Do you really want a clone" commercial was produced for MDG, a computer (and general tech financing company). @@ciaojay7025 Ryan George?
@@ciaojay7025 Evan and Katelyn?
19:53 YES! The version I saw had more stages of growth and said "Life's too short, play more" Wow, 2002. Such great ads back then.
"That's a glory hole" - I'm crying.
I'm so glad LTT has grown up with their audience and goes a little more PG sometimes.
Linus response makes it better... THAT disappointment.
More PG? Isn't that the opposite of what you mean?
@@WS12658 I believe they meant from E to PG
6:48 Linus' reaction face = PRICELESS
good one James
Truely Priceless hahahaha, i cant stop
I cant stop laughing at this, dear god, how did the editors not create a new meme of this yet????
I really need a gif of that interaction 😆
I love that the team didn't recognize Kevin Costner in the Apple commercial! 🤣
thank you I though I was going crazy.
I don't remember that commercial had to watch it a second time to be sure.
@@akariel123 Nope, that was him!
Lol, yeah... they wern't around in the 80's so they missed his early stuff. I love how they freak out about his 'mouse holding'. Thing is, Mr. Costner's a lefty, plus I'm sure the Ad 'people' told him not to cover up the mouse! Lol. 🤣
How did I not know that Costner was spelt like that I always thought it was cosner 😂
That pole position commercial was actually fantastic. If I had seen that as a kid, I can guarantee, I would have wanted it. They knew what they were doing.
lol When Yvonne points out we did this before, the look on linus' face. He looses his smile and dips his head in like shame and just says "yes".
James had me howling in laughter at the "Glory Hole"
Me too
I just want to know if Yvonne was right with what she thought it was.
Now I understand why the transition to cheap TH-cam ads shot on 10 year old mobile phones was so seamless.
this is one of the funniest ltt videos I've seen. we need more like this with you 3 reacting to stuff.
the death glare Linus gave James over the Glory Hole joke was fantastic; also I'm amazed Nintendo managed to have the Squaky clean family reputation considering their early ads
It always warms my heart to see Linus, his wife, and his wife's other boyfriend to spend quality time together.
Wait! what?
🤣🤣🤣
Hey!! You mean Linus' boyfriend...
Sensational 🤧😭
AYO WHAT
What?!?!?!
14:15
Linus face looked even more creepy than the ad
7:43 Finally, no more pesky long-distance email charges!
9:38
Yvonne showed more emotion with one blink than that entire commercial
It was contempt
Lmaoooo😂 I could feel it through my screen
"That's how woman are.... according to tech marketers "
🤣 Linus, you were close... but you saved it...
This was so enjoyable ahaha, I hope there's a part 2. Some tech companies are reckless
There's been enough to do an entire series. Maybe not ones quite as awful and tasteless as some of these but I've seen so many bad tech commercials over the years, especially from the Nintendo/Sega and IBM/Apple rivalries in the 90s. Though finding them archived somewhere might not be possible.
The Sony PSP white edition ad is still the most outrageously racist thing put out by a billion dollar company I've ever seen
Linus’ face at 19:59 reacting to the Xbox commercial had me dying, he was CLEARLY not expecting that to happen 😂
Amazing that one definitely aired on network tv, I remember it well lol. About the same reaction. What is this? Oh an Xbox commercial…. Oookay
@@invictuslem its a british advert .... network TV ? lol u mean terrestrial TV
I remember this one as well
I have seen that ad before and was surprised they haven't.
@@todorkatsarski7487 saw that on YT as part of the banned ad video compilation
This video is abolutely hilarious, I know all my comments on all these videos are coming late, but I needed this. Please keep the humour going.
14:55 is Hands down the best scene from the Video. Its just how off gaurd they all were and especially Linus's face
I remember freaky tech ads on the tv in my youth, made me want some of it so much more
@Daniel Leone skill issue
7:57 Linus noooooooo! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is the kind of retrospective that makes me painfully aware of how old I am. I actually have vivid memories of my life before personal computers, the internet, and smartphones. It feels like what it would be like to have lived a life that encompassed the invention of the printing press, the adoption of spoken language, and the discovery of fire. Nevertheless, it was a totally great trip down memory lane. My compliments.
6:53 Linus' reaction was priceless 😭
Good heavens, he really just went and said that cable management hole was a glory hole. No hesitation, with his full chest and a smirk on his face. I can't help but agree with Linus' reaction lmao
waited for a comment like this
He's a straight shooter. Calls it as he sees it. 🤣
I said the exact same thing.
Nah, couldn't be. It's too close to the wall...
And looked a bit scratchy.
I have never felt older than watching three adults with no memory of the iconic "WHERE ARE MY FLYING CARS?!" ad.
21:56 oh this is BAD. LTT, you should feel ashamed
Seeing linus grow and reflect on himself in the early days, i thought was special. The camping part brought back fond memories for me 🌟
Love the dynamic between all of you.
One could really say: Came for the tech, stayed for the people.
Thank you so much for the added value to every day.
Yeah absolutely, love these people.
It’s been a while since we’ve had Yvonne on an LTT video. And hey, you even grilled yourselves at the end.
That said, I’m surprised you didn’t cover the infamous Wii U era of Nintendo advertising despite covering them with 3 of the bad ads. That shit was cursed.
She's definitely best in off-the-cuff or loosely structured videos. I haven't personally cared for the few scripted videos she did, but the way she interacts with the team and Linus is always entertaining.
@@namAehT Agreed for the most part, it just feels forced when scripted, even when doing a TechLinked video a while back, but off the cuff because she's known most everyone for so long, it just flows way more naturally like reacting to Linus here.
Nintendo advertised the Wii-U?
It was your kids thinking that was actually camping is what killed me, I'm a dad of 3 and damn. Glad you're rectifying that each year.
And yes, they are a giant, exploitive scam along the lines of payday loans but with more steps.
I remember that commercial and the online infamy she had. Most people thinking she was stoned or high on something.
How do you know that ?
Did you notice that Kevin Costner is in the Apple commercial?
@@Gatorade69 She gave her real name. A quick Google search shows an interview with Brown University's College newspaper explaining the whole thing. She was apparently 15 at the time and friends with the son of the ad's director (the son features in a separate ad).
Because 2022 was the 20-year anniversary of the ad, there were also a bunch of retrospectives last year catching up with her that appeared in publications like WIRED and Cult of Mac.
@@Gatorade69 He knows because he can google. I know because I'm old. We are not the same.
I really enjoy the funny interactions with Linus and Yvonne
20:00 As someone who is from the UK and remembers that Xbox ad being on TV (before it was banned) I am so happy to see it being reacted to!
Like I have such vivid memories of that advert, actually made me consider Xbox (I was a hardcore Playstation kid at the time) early 00s edgelord marketing was the best 😂
Ah, it was English. That explains a lot.
didn't ltt mess up the ending though, i remember it saying "life's too short" before it says "play more". or is that just the title of the ad.
@@lePoMo yeah it for sure said that! I guess it got edited?
@@volrath__ thx. kind of takes away from the message though.
that ad was a masterpiece. Sad then that ltt butchered it.
I like how they react to Avery Brooks (Captain Sisko) but don't react to Kevin Costner in the Apple add, Zach Braff in the Nintendo add and Dean Cain in the Microsoft add 😂
Love the part 17:02 where Linus speaks without moving his mouth lol. Anyways, thank you for this entertaining video. You guys never fail to deliver :=)
How did that even happen?
Yeah I can’t unsee it now since they talked about it recently.
wtf
James is normal tho wtf?
Editing mistake
11:28 I love how yvonne reacted before linus patted her but linus was already reaching over to pat her meaning they both had the same thought at the same time lol - I think he is consoling yvonne over not being as good as the ad.
20:33 I've actually seen this commercial in a shitty mobile game like 10 times
I'm glad i didn't see those ads back then but i understand why they do it and why tech geeks are always portrayed as the odd ones
Yay, Yvonne in a video again. Hope she finds the time (and actually wants to) show up in videos more often. The energy between Yvonne and linus ist just great to watch :)
21:46 thank you so much producers/writers for including that one lol
lol, this actor? Do you mean Kevin Costner? Academy Award Winner? Waterworld? Man of Steel? Yellowstone?
I got a real kick out of Linus at 2:10, "... because this actor (Kevin Costner) has never touched a computer in his life". Not many people had touched a computer in 1983 .. including you Linus!
And isn't that a Lisa in the ad? Most people had never even seen a mouse, let alone used one, and the Lisa didn't do much to change that.
Thought that was Costner
19:53 In my opinion this one is a masterpiece. The moral at the end is completely backwards, but it's just such a raw take on the briefness of life.
Hello goodbye
11:24 "I'm very in to it"
*taps Yvonne*
Yeah you know she's gonna be wearing the unitard for him
Hearing Linus say "I actually love this commercial." right after I thought the exact same thing made me so happy.
2:01 "this actor" is Kevin Coster Linus! Put some respect on the name! (Lol hehehe 1983 Mac commercial.) Also 7:13 was so genuine and full on 100% nostalgia rush for you, could tell wanted to sulk in the moment a little. I can quite literally see your heart almost skip a beat(with a twinkle in your eyes while your jaw dropped) as you reminisced and watched the old AOL days. I got the same feeling watching it with you, felt like seeing a lost relative that past or you havent seen in over 20years. This was our youth and it was awesome to be a part of it, as it was Golden humble times. Feels like a completely different realm we were living in back then as so much has changed in the world. These kids will sadly never know how good these times were, cliché` of me to say i know...but it just couldnt be anymore true.
W comment!
Lol I was hoping someone would figure it out
It's NOT a Apple Mac commercial, since it wasn't introduced until the famous 1984 commercial. It's a ad for the Apple Lisa.
It's Kevin Costner...calm down lol...he isn't that cool.
This was surprisingly enjoyable. If this is what your reaction channel would be like, I think it'll work!
13:05 James pillow placement is on point
The song they had heard Linus singing is "Better off alone". The version I know is by Alice Deejay, but I dont know if that's the original one
I love how all 3 have different reactions at the Nintendo commercial at 4:30
This was actually really enjoyable to watch. I'd take something like this over a build Livestream any day of the week. Especially with Yvonne there, I love the little insights she gives, and the look she gave Linus when he was talking in the uncle Roy ad was 100 words with no sound
Holy shit me and James said "that's a glory hole" at the exact same time! LOL
14:26 dude 2 for 2! Nice to see Yvonne also wants her to take it off! YEAH BABY!
Some of those commercials are actually freaking awesome! The puppy commercial almost killed me, hahaha.
17:18 this is when I realized I probably shouldn’t watch this while eating lunch
