We live near Crane Beach and go walking there year round. It is one of the best beaches in the country. Even in the summer it is possible to get away from the crowds and enjoy the pretty scenery all around. The water is nice and clear, but a bit on the cold side for swimming. Enjoy your videos. Thank you.

Wonderful video. Those dark moons, wow! My favorite are those deep sea scallops. They are just awesome. Even that really pitted one is so unique! I really liked the pelicans foot. Never saw one before. I love watching the cold water shelling with Jamie at Plum Island. I am a sucker for the beautiful sand dollars there. So different from our SC 5 hole key hole. And the sand patterns on those beaches are gorgeous! Thanks for the fun vid. Have a great week!

Interesting observation! So I have never found an Iceland Scallop at Plum Island, though I have heard they have been found there before! The Iceland Scallops I have found in Maine are all from an offshore fossil deposit that's part of a larger geological feature called the Presumpscot Formation, here in Maine. Essentially, these Iceland Scallops are fossil shells that have been buried in blue clay sediments for quite a long time, and washed ashore - notice that most of them are all dark grey/blue!

This is a great question! I have actually found that most of the darker stained moons do fade with time. Interestingly, I have also noticed that some of them appear more vividly colored on grey/cloudy days, lol. It may have something to do with the way in which light interacts with the shell at the molecular level.
