I remember onetime fixing a relatives malfunctioning door knob / lockset. They asked, "Where you learn how to do that?". Told 'em, "I've never done it before." They asked, "How'd you know what to do?" I said, "I figured it out." They looked at me suspiciously, like maybe I was pulling their leg. Mechanical competence isn't just underrated, it's largely incomprehensible by the general populace. I wish I had an Uncle Bob.

You are so right, I always find it amazing how different minds work... I have always been amazed at how some people can pick up a language or musical instrument with ease, other people can draw or paint like a pro with little instruction. I think everyone has a something that comes natural to them.... For me it's eating!

@ 17:00 I would suggest leaving that in the lathe, glueing it then re-crowning the drive pulley. I like to see you using the "old school" calipers! That works just fine if you have the feel for that. Great job!

Lathes are mixed blessings, Scout. It's not that you CAN fix anything with one, it's that you WILL fix everything with one.

I used your first video screw puller unit on, of all things, a 1920s fishing reel that had the line holder stuck to the center arbor. I've had it for years, and despite my efforts, I could not figure out how to get it off without damaging it. Your method worked great. I have made similar pullers for motorcycles, but never thought of the small screws and plate as a puller for something as small as the reel. I've also never had a reel stuck like that before. Anyway, thanks for the great channel. Wayne out West (Not a TH-cam channel...I'm too busy being retired.)

I'm thinking someone without a lathe could knock out the bearings, remove the seals, clean out the grease and fill them with epoxy so they're locked up solid then reinstall them and use it that way.
