Glue some neodymium magnets to the grinders catch box. Get twice as much crap off the clean out. Slick build, and the rod sharpening setup is wicked! 👍
Beautiful work. It's rare that you see a DIY video finish with something looking professional. Beautifully shot video as well; no nonsense, tasteful cuts (especially on the welding) kept the pace engaging while still showing enough to communicate what was happening. Really great!
Thanks for sharing this insightful video. I’d add a rare-earth magnet to each of your spark containers. This video has given me some ideas on repurposing an old bench grinder. Wishing you and your family a blessed week, gentle weather and restful evenings. Peace
Die Idee mit dem Bessey Spanner ist großartig! Jetzt noch einen günstigen Frequenzumrichter dran und man kann auch noch die Drehzahl und die Laufrichtung einstellen.
I've got a big 2x72 grinder but I keep feeling myself being drawn to something like this. The big beast is a great machine; dead stable and absolutely slays metal but it is BIG, loud and it's hard to justify using it just to bevel 3" of a small part.
I built a similar solution for my tungsten grinding, just bolted a diamond wheel straight to the stone. But I put in a pipe straight out from the axle to connect the shop vac.

Simple yet precise. Minimal stock required, yet robust. Looks a treat, and does not require any of my "One Day" tools. ( One day I'll have a CNC Mill.. And I'll have a 65 inch Grizzly...) I'll see what I can come up with in regards to dust extraction. Impressive work. 👌
Very neat, but I'd be worried about that belt snapping and smacking the face... Might be worth refining the design by adding a minor guard of some sort--just enough to prevent that without sacrificing the top-use functionality of the belt.
I mean, yeah, its nice work and a good design. Problem is Step One: Buy thousands of dollars of equipment. Step Two: Fabricate belt sander attachment that only costs $150-250 on Eastwood's website. Depending on if you want a big wheel version or not. Then this begs the question, if you can afford all the equipment that you have, why not just buy the attachment? If you work for a shop, it costs them more to pay you to make this than it would to just buy one.
