After watching this im feeling a lot more confident in my first build. Just bought a lower from psa for black Friday and am getting a rifle kit soon, I didn't want to buy a full rifle as I felt building my first one would give me much more value financially and sentimentally. • @Adventure3Man
      @Adventure3Man ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@jacobseraphin685 when we got it built there was something wrong with the trigger, for whatever reason it was having trouble resetting as when we got it all put together and took it to the range after each shot I had to push the trigger forward and it'd click then I could shoot again, but it was entirely a trigger issue. It was what they called the PSA enhanced polished trigger. Everything else was good, it has a little bit of rattle to it and to fix the issue my buddy who helped me build it had his own PSA rifle that he'd built previously and he had just upgraded his Trigger to a geissele one so he gave me his psa factory trigger and now no more issues! I'm sure if I emailed PSA they likely would have sent me a new Trigger but I didn't want to wait as I'm very impatient lol. Rifle has been running like a charm since!

Look forward to it, but heads up, corporate media outlets have been pestering youtube about firearm assembly videos, taking out several belonging to the most notable members in the 80% community. On top of uploading these videos, I suggest having MP4 files as backup, and letting people know where they can download them since corporations and the media will step on both the 1st and 2nd amendment for their anti gun agenda.

I was just fiddling with my rifle and i was curious of what i could do with the stock of my AR556 and i ended up launching just about every part of the stock assembly and i tried to put it all back together and i tried to rack it and the bolt got hung up on something. This video really helped me!!! Turns out i just needed to keep turning the stock so it caught the buffer retainer. Thank you so much!!

It had been several years since I'd last assembled a Lower, and your video was exactly what I needed as a refresher. Once I had it most of the way done, i didnt finish your video and went from muscle memory and denomination.. however, I did end up ejecting the buffer retainer spring and pin, probably because I didn't follow your tip (if any) to keep it from happening; as I'm in my garage, the spring is absolutely in the Nether Realm with all the left-footed socks the dryer eats. I did find the pin, however.
My 2 cents to add to the conversation? Watch this video twice before touching your parts kit. Remember that you can zoom with the new TH-cam update, it might help with close up shots.
Also know that the spring from a click pen works fine as a temporary replacement for a buffer retention spring. 😉

When I put together my first AR-15 lower I didn't have any of the special tools that make the job go so fast and easy. So I had to stop, think and improvise during the entire assembly.
BUT....... It was a learning experience, I learned a lot about the rifle and had fun too. Now, at the range, many neophytes admire my rifle and ask if I could advide them on their own project!
    Good Luck!

For pivot pin I use one of my large punches just as you do, however I use mechanic tweezers to hold the detent and a small punch to move the detent through the tweezers until I can work the punch to hold the detent. Then take pivot pin notch 25deg from detent to push the punch and once pivot pin through the first hole of pivot I rotate the pivot pin to lock the detent into the channel. Now I have a cheap harbor freight punch set, and a complete roll pin punch set with starter roll pin punches as well.
For bolt catch with drift pin I use a starter punch and a harbor freight punch to strike the starter roll pin punch which virtually eliminates the risk to damage the receiver. To finish the roll pin is where you risk scratching the receiver. Tape is best (spring loaded punch ALTHOUGH VERY GOOD TO PROTECT FINISH MUSHROOMS THE ROLL PIN DO NOT USE IF YOU INTEND TO REMOVE ROLL PIN!)
Pistol grip if using Phillips screw I use tape to hold screw to screwdriver to get started. Once started remove tape with needle nose pliers or mechanics tweezers, I also like to cock the hammer and place selector in safe before installing grip as rare if using 45/60/90 adjustable ambi selectors the selector can be easily installed wrong thus requiring removal of grip to fix selector.
For mag release I a unused pencil to push the button so mage release latch gets flush to push button then clock as necessary ( I like to test with a PMAG as I discovered RRA lowers are tighter and generally don’t drop unmodified PMAGs not even gen3 but will drop USGI mags ) testing with mag at this stage also tests bolt catch to ensure it is moving up and not preventing mag from fully seating. Yes if mag release is to tight you can actually pull magazines out if to loose magazine will not insert.

Having a screw instead of a roll pin for the bolt catch would have saved me about 45 minutes of assembly time, heh. Unfortunately, both my stripped lowers came with the roll pin type. Other than the pivot pin, everything else is pretty easy to install. Real Avid sells a tool that makes the pivot pin a snap without having to worry about shooting the spring and detent into another dimension. Just how important is staking the castle nut? I didn't use Loc Tite, just cranked it down as much as I could with a wrench and haven't staked it. Oh, one other thing that is of medium difficulty is installing the trigger guard. I noticed your lower came with the trigger guard already installed or manufactured as part of the lower receiver. That feature would have saved me another 30 minutes. The PSA lowers I have purchased require a screw and roll pin to install the trigger guard. Yeah, I'm slow, but I'm old.

Is the safty only supposed to move when the trigger is cocked only? I am assuming that its supposed to work when its not cocked as well?

something else to include. i noticed extra parts when i was done, and it makes sense, if you didn't buy the lower, you wouldnt have the pin and screw for the bolt catch

The explanation of what you were doing was helpful but, you kept moving out of the camera frame so we could not see what you were doing. Also when you were in the frame your hands were too far away from the camera to clearly see what you were doing. Helpful for sure but I’ll see if I get mine put together. Good try, thank you!

This video is decent for someone who just needs a refresher but for someone brand new it’s useless. You should remake it showing close up of how everything goes.

I wish you had a camera view that was extremely close up. I simply couldn't see what he was doing and I would NOT be comfortable attempting a build with just this video. Some TH-cam'rs have a quality camera over their work station that looks straight down on what the hands are doing with the parts. Perhaps if you look at some "How to build a drone from scratch" these would be excellent examples of how this camera technique is executed. Very best regards.. Z :)
