    Most accurate iron lab test is ferritin, you should get that tested. Veganism is awesome but the iron issue is quite important. I found out I'm low af on ferritin - 22ng/ml, under 60 levels aren't recommended, it's best to be around 100. Needless to say I've been feeling tired, major hair loss, pale dry skin and major depression. Stuff like calcium, coffee can inhibit iron absorption, phytates as well. Vitamin C and beta-carotene however boost iron absorption.

  • @joycefung2473
    @joycefung2473 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    It is actually most accurate to check your ferritin levels and ferritin saturation levels rather than your red blood cell count for iron levels.

    I just discovered your TH-cam channel & vegan (& Instant Pot) videos - I've been binge-watching them now for about 4 hours; you have a great way of explaining all the crazy questions & comments that people ask vegans. Regarding your eyes, I didn't notice the dark skin underneath, but instead he bright alert sparkle in your healthy eyes. Some people also think that being thin is another unhealthy sign of being vegan - how wrong they can be! :-) Keep up the great videos!

      Hi there,
      I would recommend to opt out from using pharmaceutical drugs to supplement and instead opt for a well-planned, organic, unrefined and untempered with vegan diet (preferably raw so as not to denature or destroy any life-forces and enzymatic activities that are beneficial for the human system).
      As for chocolate to be used as an iron source, i would also recommend not to opt for that due to the presence of caffeine, an addictive and diuretic drug, that flushes out calcium, thus weakening the bones. It also raises cholesterol; irritates and stimulates the brain, heart and nerves; and taxes adrenal glands. Opt for organic plant food sources such as organic beets that are good sources of iron (personal experience).
      Best wishes

    As a tip for the viewers: You might want to consider that consuming calcium together with iron decreases the amount of iron your body can absorb. So if you want to take an iron supplement (which you should only do after talking to your doctor since too much iron is dangerous) then make sure to take it without any calcium rich foods. I also don't add calcium enriched foods like plantmilk, tofu or nuts to my smoothies together with iron rich food like Spirulina or Greens.
    Additionally it's important to know that you need enough calcium for your vitamin d to be absorbed. Taking Vitamin D supplements while you have a calcium deficiany doesn't really change anything so check in with your doctor there as well!

    • @RainbowPlantLife
      @RainbowPlantLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Antonia, yes you are right about that! I had a lot more content to share in this video (like this fact) but for the sake of time, I didn't want to inundate viewers with too much info! I don't take a calcium or iron supplement as I'm able to get enough from foods, but definitely something to consider. Thanks!

      @Look.Upward 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there,
      I would recommend to opt out of taking pharmaceutical drugs to supplement and instead adopt, if not already, a well-planned, organic, unrefined and untempered vegan diet (preferably raw so that the life-forces and enzymatic activities are not destroyed that will benefit your system). For example, Vitamins D (with the exception of the body's ability to make it after being exposed to the sun) can be obtained from organic chestnut mushrooms and sun-dried mushrooms; Iron from organic beets etc. One can be benefited too by looking at the Book of Nature and see what foods target which organs e.g organic walnuts and pecans (look like the brain and target the brain e.g contains Omega 3 Fatty Acids, needed for brain health); organic artichoke (looks like the hip and targets the hip); organic kidney beans (looks like kidneys, targets kidneys and the name bears witness of the fact); organic tomatoes (when cut, look like chambers of the heart and targets the heart); organic carrot (when cut, looks like the eyes and targets the eyes); organic broccoli (looks like the respiratory zone and targets the lungs); and so on and so forth.
      Best wishes

    Ferritin is an accurate test for iron deficiency anemia. Ranges will say 12 to 200, but you're iron deficient if less than 30. Symptoms can start at less than 75. Not knowing this destroyed me after several years. I searched for answers and finally a doctor checked my ferritin. Everyone should get their ferritin checked. Hair loss, fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, muscle twitches, all are symtpoms. I didn't know I had absorption issues and non heme iron is harder to absorb.

Mine are also low, I'm trying 3 months on 200mg, if that doesnt work I'm doing x2 a day, my DR hasnt recommended any infusion.....I presume because my ferritin is low but my haemoglobin is medium so actually I've never even felt the effects of low ferritin, it only got picked up on a blood test for something else.

    This video comes at the best possible time for me, as I just got my first “vegan” blood results back this week and was looking for someone to compare to. Like you, all I lack is a bit of vitamin D as I live in cold & dark Denmark. By the way, loved your video on hygge, your pronunciation was a bit far from the real thing 🙉😂, but your definition was spot on ❤️, and although I grew up with all of this, it is interesting to hear how you as an American relate to it.

      Hi there,
      I do not see any necessity to take pharmaceutical drugs including Vitamin D, which can be obtained from organic chestnut mushrooms and sun-dried mushrooms. I do also recommend to avoid vegan packed alternative foods e.g vegan ham, and instead opt for organic, unrefined and untempered with vegan plant foods preferably in their raw form so as to be benefited by the life-forces and enzymatic activities that would have otherwise been destroyed in cooking methods.
      Best wishes

    Thank you for all your great educational videos. Any thoughts about omega 3 supplements? Does algae oil go rancid easily?

    • @RainbowPlantLife
      @RainbowPlantLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm so happy you find them useful and educational :) I can't speak to algae oil because I've never tried it, but an omega 3 supplement could be a good idea. There are plenty of plant based sources of omega 3 fatty acids, but most (except perhaps algae oil, as you mentioned) are rich in the ALA type of fatty acid, not in the EPA or DHA types. ALA is not as active in our bodies and we have limited ability to convert it to EPA or DHA, so that's why it might be a good idea to try a supplement.
      This is the vegan omega-3 supplement I have: amzn.to/2mjuU86

      Hi there,
      I would recommend to avoid caffeinated plant sources as it is an addictive and diuretic drug that flushes out calcium, thus leading to weak bones. It also raises cholesterol; irritates and stimulates the brain, heart and nerves; and taxes adrenal glands.
      As for peppermint, i would recommend to opt for organic so as to avoid GMO or pesticides that might find their way into one's system, thus destroying the system.
      Best wishes

    What about dr Greger and dr Neil barnard who suddenly have them and it’s not because of their ethnicity? When people mention dark circles it’s most likely not to put you down but because iron deficiency is a legit concern for those that are looking into possibly becoming plant based. When you see the vegan doctors who are looking worse you start to wonder if this diet is the best or not. I’m not an internet troll . I’m a mother with children who is researching nutrition and I’m actually wondering about what’s best.

    Hello... I also have dark circles and I'm super sensitive about it. I think it's brave of you to point them out. I just came back as anemic now that I'm vegan. I also have endometrosis, which I'm trying to heal with veganism and other things. I think it's contributing to this because my menstrual cycle is heavy. I love how you own it and maybe that's just what I need to do. in terms of Vit D def and doctors, most don't understand we need supplements because we can't get enough from the sun or our foods. I take 5000 to 10000 mgs a day. May Yahwah bless you and keep you. Numbers 6:24-26

    • @alisue4426
      @alisue4426 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me, trying to be vegan did nothing for my endo. It made my deficiencies worse. Iron deficiency anemia, low magnesium, low b12, low protein, all what I now struggle from. Having expert excision surgery did help. But I continue to suffer from symptoms from deficiencies. They say low ferritin, which is iron deficient anemia, can make periods heavier. Seems counter productive but it's been in research. Vitamin c boosts iron. Joining support groups on FB have been helpful.

      Hi there,
      Vitamin D, with the exception of being created by the body when exposed to the sun, can be obtained by consuming organic chestnut mushrooms and sun-dried mushrooms. Please avoid pharmaceutical drugs as i see no necessity for them if one has a well-planned, organic, unrefined and untempered with vegan diet (consumed raw so as not to denature or destroy the life-forms or enzymatic activities beneficial to the human system) as opposed to vegan alternative products e.g vegan ham.
      Best wishes

    Most animal-based D3 is from lanolin, which is a wax from sheep's wool and is a byproduct of the wool industry, so sheep aren't hurt in the production of D3. Yay! I'm so glad that D3 can be sourced from lichen now as well, a great vegan source. 💚

    Thank you for information.
    You are amazing@
    I had a short period in my life where i had dark circles around my eyes and i was vegan already.
    I was during my MA and i was really exhausted from too much going around. I had several major things going around in my life. As artist i had a tendency to drink socially quite a lot.
    I did not realise it at the beginning but s ok me time after mh studies i self diagnose with Adrenal fatigue.
    Another thing which i knew from before, that area around the eyes is a reflex zone for kidneys as well as stomach and liver.
    Adrenal fatigue is exhaustion of Adrenal glands which are above kidneys.
    I realized that kidneys are filter and started to research about body filters and came to conclusions that i need to clense/flush liver and kidneys
    That year (2018) i started a major body clense by Andreas Moritz method. First was liver flush and after second liver flush my Adrenal fatigue was gone as well as dark circles around my eyes.
    It is hard to say which organ was bit too clogged but cleansing liver for sure took some pressure off of the rest of the body.
    I also wanted tl do this liver flush because i wanted to flush out any leftovers of animal world from times j used to be carnivore.
    I feel much better now. Also as spiritual person i started to feel my body much better and on the new level.
    I understand that sometimes it is easier to say "Oh my mom or dad has the same thing", but my opinion is: about first 22 years of my life i ate by their knowledge and being vegan i realized that it was wrong for me, but i did not have enough voice to stand up for myself.
    Wish you all the best
    Blessings

    2 of my co-workers recently got blood tests, both came back with results saying they need more B12. I explained to them that animals aren't grass fed anymore, they are bred in factories, and fed corn diets, so you aren't getting your B12 by eating meat. I gave myself a virtual high 5 for reading so much into the subject when I went vegan.

      Jen Martin Grass fed is better but it doesn't affect b12. It will grow in areas with no oxygen. Your pooh contains high levels of b12 but it forms too late in your intestine s to be absorbed. That's why apes eat their own poop.
