lightbulb went on in my head yesterday while doing a roundtrip to Boston. FSD did 90% of driving. I imagine road rage incidents will drop by at least 50% with FSD because the car makes the decisions, not you, so you're less likely to get upset during driving activity. Also, if someone cuts you off, you don't take it personally, because you feel like a passenger and not the driver. It's weird to think about, but while using FSD, I didn't really care if people were cutting me off in traffic. this is a psychological game changer on the road. really amazing stuff.
💯
> I imagine road rage incidents will drop by at least 50% with FSD
I would not count on that. I had someone try to overtake me using a wide bike lane because FSD was going the speed limit.
Very good point !
Some drivers seem to think that driving is a contest of their superiority. Most seem to feel that the speed limit does not apply to them. Even Tesla supports that idea by supporting controls to drive over the speed limit. Everyone needs to understand the objective of driving is to get there alive, not first.
everyone testing FSD and giving feedback is part of the team to help save 40,000 lives a year in the US, noble cause.
Thats a Chinese moto, thanks to chinese engineer from Xpeng who is a CEO for periodically fixing bugs of the FSD
4:15 FSD not pulling over for an emergency vehicle. Seems like a pretty important edge case (if you can even call it an edge case) that Tesla needs to sort out.
💯
11:06 It boggles my mind that staying alert is a challenge for some people when on FSD. I'm actually MORE alert with using FSD because I don't trust it. I always see FSD as an "assist in training" instead of a "hands off" (pun intended) type of thing. Love your videos.
You are smart to distrust FSD. After *four* *years* in beta, it still makes mistakes on any challenging route .
@@DerekDavis213 Yep.
@@quickpstuts412 I would absolutely not let my wife and child use the beta FSD software.
@@DerekDavis213 It's not Beta software, it is supervised, just like other driving assistance systems.
@@williamrogers1219 Please look up the defintion of Beta Software. You will see that Tesla FSD is absolutely in beta, as of today June 30th 2024.
Thank you. Very well done video and commentary. I have a model S with 12.4.1 and my experiences are similar though the area where I drive in South Florida is more wide open. My biggest concerns at this point are the occasional hard braking. it does that particularly approaching a stoplight on yellow where it almost led to getting rear ended. On the freeway it seems to have issues of getting to the exit lane early enough to make it easy. I’ve also experienced some of the indecisiveness however it seems to have worked out.. I do like the fact that it is generally very conservative and probably drives safer than I do when I’m in full control. Again, thanks a lot for the great video. Good to know that others are having similar experience to me both good and not so good Bob Greenstone.
19:45 agree - I find it prefers to see ahead and thus will make some random changes to see what's coming.
I like what you doin man! Keep the vids coming and helping making fsd better.
17:00 fsd seen object on the bike/shoulder is why it made the seemingly erratic move.
And the honk. When you got to the light, it wasn't for you. You almost got a wham, bam. Tesla cam moment. 17:25
20:42 FSD registered the brake lights on the Van. Ahead.
You can see it on the screen, too. That's why it slow down.
Thanks for the demo ! Keep them coming. New to Tesla … just got my first Tesla model 3 refresh about a month ago.
Thanks. I always enjoy your insights and commentary on FSD.
Thanks for your thoughtful coverage and very helpful evaluations on 12.4.1. Hope you get 12.4.2 soon, and that I get it also. Still driving on 12.3.6, which does remarkably well, but look forward to getting 12.4.2/12.4.3 and eventually 12.5. Very much look forward to driving without the Nag!
About nag: just rest your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel with downward pressure until car is actually turning the wheel, then lift hand. I have found this will eliminate nag and the hands need to be somewhere anyway. FSD seems to need reassurance that it is taking the correct action. Having hands on the wheel provides this valuable feedback. Not too much to ask of the supervisor.
14:30 it was a little over the speed limit in the 25 mph zone.
Great content with great insight, subed 👍🏾
👍🏾
Really enjoy your channel thank you
Very true. Staying awake can be very hard especially on long trips
Only if you’re an id¡ot who shouldn’t have a license
12 12 12 12 12 12 - Today's lesson is saying 12.4.1. Get the number 11 out of your system. Very good Video though. Camera quality is good. Voice inflections and Speech is of
Good Quality. Heard a couple growling noises like a Dog or Pet in the Car lol. Hope it wasn't the car. Car is about safety. Good job showing us all it does in this busy city of yours. Good Mix of Vehicles, Pedestrians, Cyclists, Trucks, buses and almost a collision at one intersection (Not involving you, of course). Keep them coming.
There were soooo many v11 videos I'm ruined 😁
I think the problem would be 2-Fold if FSD tries to pull over for an Emergency Vehicle behind you. In that it would have to prioritize getting over and not hitting another vehicle or pedestrian or cyclist or anything for that matter.
I believe that the Driver should Disengage or Intervene and take Control. It would be Quicker anyway than waiting for FSD to decide how, when and where to pull over.
At least that’s what I believe should happen
upvoted!!!
Kind of looking like the wide release will be v12.4.2 so us with v12.3.6 will skip the v12.4.1. Great Job! I can’t wait to get it.
what on the other hand surprises me too is, that since it exists I have never seen fsd misses or mixing up traffic lights even on very complicated intersections with confusing other lights like adverts or crazy shadows. Maybe at the very beginning for a short time it was not 100% and one single time I saw a fsd video some weeks ago where it was running a red light that was red already for a while and clearly visible. But the rest is in all conditions 100%. How comes while we see fsd failing in other simple situations sometimes?
Elon just explained that training has been a complicated process ensuring the proper learning of how to follow rules vs how to drive humanlike in terms of comfort. I suspect fine tuning this will be the key to following all the rules all the time
interaction with all drivers at 17:22 felt so weird 😂 must just be me
Excellent job as usual
In version 12.3.6 I have my hand on the lower left quadrant of the steering wheel and don't get wheel nags in daytime. The same behavior gives me wheel nags at regular intervals at night.
At this point in time Tesla is not allowing transfer of FSD. I went on their website and went through the process of ordering the new model 3 and before I put down my deposit I asked Tesla on the chat can I transfer the FSD on my Y to the new model 3 and they responded that they were not allowing transfers at this time.
While correct that FSD is more of an app, windows licenses absolutely can be transferred to new PCs (this happens often when hardware dies and the license needs to be moved to new hw). Tesla has no excuse not to allow FSD to transfer since they can do it when it benefits them.
The hard breaking I understand and don’t have an issue with that. It’s still breaking to prevent a potential issues!!
I wonder if auto wipers logic is connected to the FSD driving part. My guess is that it is a separate module, working similar to the matrix adaptive lights - based on vision, but not connected to the FSD.
But as those small features are not mentioned much in th release notes, it might be worth to see, if they still work as intended.
Thanks to chinese Xpeng engineer ceo for updating the FSD, what a genius guy, very talented and humble!
Still waiting for 12.4 😢😢😢
Which map 🗺️ is he using?
15:17 with this harsh and early breaking and then not quickly accelerating you easily could get rear ended. Why is this still an issue? There was clearly nothing in front
Clarified in your other comment
How did you get 12.4.1 ?
Right. I still don’t have it.
Black Tesla is a long-time FSD tester.
Good stuff. :)
We had some heavy storms in NJ this past week (as I am sure you know) and it got me thinking about power outages with traffic lights going out. How would FSD address that?
Good question I've not encountered an off light but I suspect it would go straight through like an inactive railroad crossing OR yield the right of way like an all way stop
Do you still prefer the yoke to a regular steering wheel?
I am almost sure, that with no-nag fsd version, yoke is far superior, as the visibility is improved and circle is superior during manual driving and a lot of turns.
@@Kaipiso Yoke is wonderful, *in* *an* *aircraft* . Every luxury car in the world uses a round steering wheel. That is the safest way to respond quickly and accurately to unexpected situations on the road .
Yes still prefer the yoke
@@DerekDavis213 No need to touch the wheel with such a great FSD driving itself! :D That is the point.
@@Kaipiso If FSD is so great, lean back and close your eyes and let it drive for a couple of hours on a challenging route. You are perfectly safe, *right* ?
I think FSD subscription model will be strong, but if it sticks with the purchaser, then it's almost a no brainer to purchase it because we'll have FSD for life
My suggestion is FSD as Lifetime membership, annual, monthly or daily. We use in-cabin camera for facial recognition. Access any fleet and depending on your membership, once you sit in the seat FSD gets activated. This way, if you borrow your friends or relatives tesla, you can have FSD but maybe they don't.
BT, quick update. Tesla finally gives me the transfer on FSD. I guess my complaints on your channel worked 🙂Ordering new Tesla tonight.
👏🏾
Black Tesla (anybody), question,...will the 2023 Model 3 get the "hands free FSD" and the "shift out of park"? My Model 3 has the AMD CPU and vision drive. I don't even have FSD 12.4.1 🤷🏾♂
Yes to question 1. As far as 12.4.1, only the anointed have it.
Yes you will get hands-free. According to Ashok they may be able to provide auto-shift for stalk vehicles but it's unknown when/if that will happen.
I feel like we won’t be getting 12.5 until December lol
It makes no economic sense to buy FSD for $8k rather than paying $100 monthly for the subscription. The payback period is almost 10 years or more depending on the interest rate you get on the $8k (i.e., currently 5% for high-yield FDIC-insured savings accounts). I observed the same bias with a golf cart lane parallel to the driving lane.
good point!
Good vid
Not stopping for an emergency vehicle is NOT a big thing???
It is a big thing but it has never stopped for emergency vehicles so it's a known issue. I said as much in the video
11.4.1? Misspoke at the beginning
Yes all through the video had 11 on the brain 🤦🏾♂️
As FSD keeps on improving, the main issue for many people in my opinion is that while FSD is proven to be safer than a human driver it is much slower overall. Decisions by the software are probably influenced mostly by safety whereas humans in most cases can still make mostly safe decisions much more quickly, especially in traffic dense or rush hour situations. Cumulatively these small times can add up to quite a bit of time and other drivers have a very little patience for a half second lost here or there. I think this is a large part of drivers taking over from FSD. Very similar to a student driver. Just my opinion, of course. I'd be happy to hear others feedback and take on this.
FSD will always be slower than the average human driver because its primary purpose is to minimize risk, not transit time. The eventual tradeoff when/if it becomes "unsupervised" will more than compensate for the slower transit. That said, going forward, unnecessarily slow decision-making (at stop signs and elsewhere) should be eliminated and transit will improve from what it is now.
I think the reason it takes it's time or does not act at at no traffic intersections, is it needs input of other vehicles to keep it processing. In other words it goes into a type of computer sleep.
_FSD is proven to be safer than a human driver_
FSD is absolutely not safer than a human. FSD requires *100* *percent* supervision at all times. It cannot be trusted.
A human can drive every day for years without an incident. A human can observe, reason, analyze, and adapt to anything on the road .
People drivers aren't safe on the roads. I'd rather have FSD take a slower approach compared to a human driver any day of the week. There's nothing wrong with a little overly cautious FSD.
Safety first.
@@Mr_Battlefield People drivers are very safe on the road:
_The average driver in the USA can expect to be involved in 3 to 4 car accidents over their lifetime, filing a collision claim approximately every 18 years, with young and elderly drivers being more at risk_
At level 4 or 5, no pedals or steering unless we are still driving our current vehicles. We can't have those situations. The Car needs to learn to adapt.
Its very likely FSD is ringfenced from the user interface (very highly secured) . you dont want spotify to crash the car the neural nets are heavily separated from the normal code. Tesla cant sell FSD as an app. Anyone licencing FSD will need to licence the FSD computer.
Why license the computer that's already a part of the car you bought?
FSD access could easily be connected to your Tesla account rather than your car, and be as accessible on any car you drive as your cloud profile. Like all the apps out there which offer a one time fee for lifetime access to pro features, the hardware and software are both already there either way, and paying monthly or once doesn’t change the fact that you could get a new computer and regain access to your paid features as easily as you can connect it to your account. If my laptop goes in for repair, or I have to travel without it, I can still use paid software features on loaners/rentals by connecting them to my account. Same with when I eventually replace it with a new one. As soon as I sign in I would immediately have Apple Music, TV+, or whatever. EAP and FSD are just partially and fully feature unlocked versions of a preinstalled program running on purpose built hardware. This wouldn’t suddenly make Autopilot performance more susceptible to influence from different programs in the car which use different hardware in the car and are accessed differently through the interface. There are “apps” as in the concept, represented by the little square things in the menu where you go to access the GUI of certain programs, but that’s more about perception. You’re still running and using many other programs which are more highly integrated and accessed differently through the interface or during the experience of using the product.
The FSD can easily be fixed to your Tesla account and does not need to be fixed to your car. I think Elon looks at this the wrong way -- They are LOSING sales on full FSD. It would be an easy purchase for me if I could be certain that I could transfer it when I buy another Tesla (and I intend to.) Could get a big boost in permanent FSD sales if they'd make transfers a permanent thing.
Yes, why not just an account number and PIN that would work w/ any car?
@@19valleydan Well, you already have to create a Tesla account on your phone and tie it to your car before you can purchase the add-ons anyway. I don't see what the issue is; the account is already there, just tie the add-ons to the account instead of car!
Though, your idea of being able to use your add-ons in any car you drive is intriguing, but I think that's a big ask. I'd be happy if it's just any car I've proven I own and have logged into with my Tesla account.
No one else has this tech? Dude with all respect Tesla FSD is supplied by china and not to mention all Tesla parts are a joint venture subsidiary.
Tesla FSD is level 2 same as Li auto. Nio, Xpeng are level 4 and BYD is level 3 along with Huawei Avatr. Waymo robot taxi is level 4
This was an easy drive today. Your viewers would like to see 12.4.1 tested in Manhattan or Queens or the Train Station. During morning or afternoon busy hours. `Human interventions galore ?
It's tough, I can get it to those places with moderate traffic in a 15-25 min video. In high traffic we are talking standstill traffic at 45-65 mins long
Believe me, I want the technology to be a success, but the way you explain the supervised position seems pretty stressful.
It's far less stressful than it used to be, but it's just an unusual position that people aren't used to. The more consistency it shows the better the experience.
I would never pay for anything that stays with a vehicle that 9 times out of 10 I will not keep forever. The Elon please kingmaker transfer one month and then next month you can’t transfer.
FSD looks at eye contact, and not skin tone
First
I'm gonna install it today and prove that it's complete garbage
Why does it work so will if its garbage? I still prefer to drive myself but to say it’s garbage is a stretch if you have actual experience with it.
FSD doesn't work. It completely is a fail.
It is actually a series of hamsters pulling strings and levers under the hood driving the car around. You need to take this issue up with the rodents.
