    In the recent expansion, the house system was updated. instead it is now a Roulette. players put their money toward a house and after 7 days, one person is picked as the winner. everyone else gets their money back to try at another house

    It'd be great if you played together, and it's definitely a better vehicle for experiencing (and reacting to) the story than watching the odd video compilation. E: Also, the great thing about FFXIV is that you don't NEED to be the "best" gamers. The team took great pains to make content that everyone could enjoy, and the community is mostly helpful. Never feel like you need to be uber gamers to play or enjoy the content.

      Totally agree. =) Their first mmo, FF XI, was/still is heavily geared toward working with other players to make good progress, specially when it came to gaining exp. You could reach the first levels pretty good alone, but soon that going would get tough when solo 'ing... In XIV, this is not much of a thing anymore. ^^

      Yeah that was such a shame. I hear the late-game story, content and classes are awesome (basically once you get to the expansions) but I just could not get through the more bland first half. I especially didn't like how my class was being drip-fed to me (also job change should be available at lv30 but your first one can't be done until you finish the vanilla story at lv50) and everything died in a few hits. If I could skip all of that I would get right back into it, but oh well. Mb in a few months I'll give it another go.

      @@Martial_Autist With the exception of expansion jobs, you should be able to change to any of the base classes at lvl 10, but yeah that is a bummer if you wanted to play something like Dark Knight and had to wait till Heavensward to unlock it. I'm glad that they are going back and redoing a lot of the old dungeons and duties to make them more engaging and help teach mechanics a little better to new players.

    • @Delithara
      @Delithara ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Job change? You can change jobs by the first dungeon. And if your talking about job advancement, you unlock the quest at level 30 via class quests.
      Now some jobs are locked behind expansions. Which is only 3 of them, the rest are level based to unlock as they were added in later expansions.

    • @Martial_Autist
      @Martial_Autist ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Delithara I did the class quests up to and including lv30 and I couldn't get the advanced class.
      First result when I google it:
      "You must first have a level 50 combat class, and have completed "Before the Dawn" which is all the story quests that take place before the 3.0 update. Once you meet these requirements, the quests to unlock the advanced jobs will become available."

    • @Delithara
      @Delithara ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Martial_Autist that information is definitely incorrect. Your suppose to have your job stone (advanced job) by the 2nd trial Titan who is around level 30-32. It doesn’t auto equip the stone though. Which is the bottom right equipment slot.
      The only thing for level 50 is a full set of class exclusive artifact armor and a chest containing a upgraded version of that armor as well for completing your class quest.
      I’m wondering if the info is referring to the Stormblood and beyond classes?

    If you want more FFXIV stuff without getting TOO many spoilers, I'd suggest reacting to Cider Spider's videos. There're his "Mad because Small" vids, which takes you through what's happening in the various main story quests, but without ever really talking about what's going on.
    And then there's his Raid/Party Finder videos (Only 2~3 right now), where he describes the raid boss fights and how they SHOULD be easy to fight, except for the fact that playing with randoms means you'll fail on the easiest mechanics constantly, like getting tripped up by a jump rope despite being a gymnast.

    For context, Pint made his name with world of warcraft videos. This was his first video after he joined the migration of players moving from WoW to final fantasy 14 back in 2021. That was a rough year to be a WoW fan, and many players were looking for a better mmo experience. Plus it was the year the Endwalker expansion released for ff14, drawing the main storyline of the game to its conclusion, so there was a lot of hype.
    If you're interested in ff14 related videos, may I recommend jocat's A Crap Guide to Final Fantasy 14 series? They're short, fast, and fun, and cover game mechanics rather than story. They'll give you the run down of the different roles in a typical ff14 dungeon or raid party, some tips on how to play well, and a quick run down of all the various jobs you can play as.

    The good thing with Final fantasy 14, that sets it apart from other games in it's genre. Is that it is an RPG first and an MMO second, so the story comes first which is quite different to most other games. And why I think it does so well, nothing forced and not so much gate keeping. It allows for many different kinds of players, to exist in the world without too much friction. The player base is a lot kinder than others, and any kind of toxic behavior is dealt with by the developers pretty quickly. So no matter your skill level, you can play the game and have fun. Because too many competitive gamers tend to forget, some people just want to enjoy the game and have fun. Because shouldn't that be the whole point of gaming, to have fun there is enough stress in people's real lives. They want to forget that for a few hours, and come to a phantasy world and do crafting, quests dancing and make friends.

  • @rainbowprism6242
    @rainbowprism6242 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would like to mention some parts about video. The context is that most popular MMO game before that began to suck so hard that everyone was quitting en mass. They migrated to various games, but biggest contender was FF14. It was mostly flying under radar of WoW players who dismissed it as weeb catgirl game, but faced with desolation of Shadowlands expansion of WoW, most did a leap of faith. Many content creators fell in love with the game and some are still playing after new WoW expansion seemingly fixed some of stuff and getting some players back. Pint is one of those. You probably noticed there are some references that flew over your head.
    Another suggestion is to get an invitation from friends/acquaintances/some guys who play the game. You can get a code from other players and get certain bonuses that work both for you and for the one whose code you entered. They are very neat and trust me, many will be forming lines miles long to give you one.

  • @icefox94
    @icefox94 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    ffxiv is probably the best first mmo, from what i've seen and heard. it's a ff game first, so the change to mmo isn't as jarring and a lot of the game can be played solo if you don't like interacting with people much. you can also choose to use a controller instead of a keyboard if you struggle to move your character that way, whether you play on the playstation or pc. it is also very forgiving on how often you log on. the only... timed thing, i guess, is if you get a house or apartment, you have to log on once every 45 days or you lose it. otherwise, you can do whatever you want whenever you want and log on as often or as little as you want. yoshi-p, the director and producer, even encourages players to take breaks from the game when you catch up with the story or start to get bored/burnt out. the free trial is very generous as well. it's not timed and you get access to the first 2 expansions. thaty's 60 levels worth of content.

    @RomnilWater ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Love FFXIV. I'm taking a break at the moment because my time is limited and there's other games I've been wanting to play but really it is a once in a lifetime type of game.
    It's new player friendly, with an amazing story, many gameplay options and an extremely nice community. It's just so open. If i want story there's always something to do. Or if I want a challenge then maybe I'll do a raids or decide to look into a new player class but if I just want to de-stress and not think too hard then I can run around and work on gathering and crafting classes or lose hours at the Golden Saucer (an in game casino and mini game area with surprisingly good Myjong in it)
    I will say the moment that made me fall in love with the game was a social one though.
    The Bard class in game gets the ability to write and play music at mid level. It can be anything and players like to make covers of popular songs to just play when they're idling. In fact some people just play the game as a street performer.
    I was playing late one night and suddenly one of the main hub towns turned into a music festival. It wasn't anything planned and certainly not official but I spent two hours just wandering around listening to some bad ass covers.
    That was the moment that I fell in love with the game and got off my one track mindset on just the main story.

    The role play aspects of the game (specifically the dedicated rp servers), while memed on, are facinating to hear about. People build entire back stories and storylines using the world and lore as a basis, or simply rp owning a cafe or something. • @Scarabswarm
    @Scarabswarm ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Yup, you've nailed it, and Pint did a good job conveying it: Nothing is mandatory. Certain things need to be done to unlock other things, generally to get more of the same. Like if you want to do the hardest raids, you need to complete some of the easier ones along the way. But if you just want to spend your time fishing, or composing music, doing solo dungeons, or buying and selling on the market board; you can do that. The community is super welcoming and supportive. For anyone curious about the game, you can play the entirety of the base game, and the first expansion, absolutely free, for as long as you like.
    As new gamers, you will find that FFXIV does a really good job easing you into the game's mechanics. Playing a class from level 1 to level 90 is like listening to a song where the instruments come in one at a time. Start with a drum just giving you a beat, then the baseline comes in, then the drumming expands with snare and symbols, the lead guitar picks up, the keyboard starts in with a melody, and then the vocals start and you suddenly find yourself singing along. You start the game by having one button to press, and get used to doing that one thing on a rhythm. Then in a level you get another thing to do, giving you a one-two beat, in another level or two, you get a third thing to weave inbetween like: one-two, one-two-three; one-two, one-two-three. And thus it goes. The whole rhythm fades into the background, and you are just vibeing and enjoying the experience. Some classes are easier than others, (like I wouldn't recommend Black Mage for new players), but since you can level up every job and switch jobs at will, you can try out every job until you find one that resonates with you.
    The devs are also on a mission currently to improve the solo player experience, by integrating a system whereby you can run dungeons with NPCs instead of other players. Letting you go at your own pace. About 70% of the game already has this system, and they improve that number with every patch. Not that running with players is bad, again, the community is super supportive and people are there to help everyone have fun.
    Pint is actually a newer player, and is still working his way through the story. His video had a bunch of in-jokes and references for current players, but his editing is absolutely on point.

Each with its own flavor (Goblet: Desert, very brown/sandstone architecture; Lavender Beds: Forest, woodsy/Hobbit-esque; The Mist: Coastal, what was shown in the pan shot, Cycladic/Greek; Shirogane: Far Eastern inspired) the Goblet happened to be the least sought after overall so people that don't want to compete would go there to find a starter home. Thanks for highlighting this creator! I’d never heard of them but I love their editing style.
    Oh yeah and the reaction was great too. FF14 is such a fun game, it’s long, and there’s basically endless side activities, but plenty of people just stick to the main story quests and the game has very friendly and quick progression. Played that way it’s not really much longer than your average jrpg (and that hypothetical jrpg’s two sequels).
    Seriously though FF14 is amazing. The player base is the friendliest of any online community I’ve ever come across, and it’s something everyone actively prides themselves on and works to cultivate. Go to any city, shout that you’re new and confused, and a dozen cat, rabbit, and dragon-girl mommies will immediately swarm you and offer to help.

    For what it is worth, FF14 has a GREAT story, and is the most single-player MMO game i've ever seen. you can basically play it alone, except for a very few boss fights (but players are super helpful and understanding on those). You can treat it as something like a regular final fantasy JRPG most of the time and just enjoy the story. heck most youtubers who watch FF14 get a kick out of watching new people experience the story, MORE than they enjoy watching the hardcore people do the hard raids.

    Cool vid. :) Pint makes a good review of the game (though I personally think some parts of it might "scare" away people from playing it, as he feels a little sarcastic about the Story and so. XIV does indeed have some downers, but it's not so bad). The housing-system was abit crazy indeed, but like Myrkr mentioned in his post, it's better now. :) Buying a house is fortunately not essential in this game; could be nice with your own home, but then you'd better build up your Gil through grinding Dungeon Roulettes and similar means. -One need millions to afford a plot. :O A more in-game pocket-friendly alternative are the Free Companies, who's leaders can buy a FC house all members can visit and enter. In those, any member can optionally purchase a room in the house (faaaar cheaper than a plot of your own), though it's not required. Should you two play it in the future, that won't really be something to consider much, as you can log in and out from anywhere in the game, even without having a home or joining a FC. ^^

    Here's an overview of MMO context and history if you're interested.
    In 2021 it came out that Blizzard (Creators of World of Warcraft, the dominant MMO for over a decade) were under investigation for widespread sexual harrassment, discrimination, abuses of employees, pay scandals, and general poor workplace environment.
    WoW has been pretty much the King of MMO Games for 15 years, ever since it released, and almost every other MMO that has been released in the time of its dominance has failed. It's hard to overstate how popular and how much of a thing this was - at the peak there were between 10-15 million active users daily which at the time was unheard of for games, especially MMOs.
    In that time of dominance the only other games that succeeded in the space were Guild Wars 2, Final Fantasy 14 (eventually) and to a lesser extent Eve Online and some others. But none got close to touching WoW.
    However, WoW's playerbase has been falling steadily ever since their peak. The peak was Wrath of the Lich King, their third expansion, and the culmination of a storyline that had been in progress since the 90s with the original Warcraft RTS games.
    But the next expansion, Cataclysm, had a lot of flaws and people started to quit.
    Then came Mists of Pandaria, a fantastic expansion gameplaywise, with great features and encounters and class design but the theme of which put other people off.
    Then... Warlords of Draenor. Missing content be the bucketload, nothing to do in the world, repetetive dungeons, entire sections of the game never even came out because their development workload was flawed.
    There was a resurgence with the next expansion, Legion, which while it had flaws was overall spectacular.
    But it was followed by the disastrous Battle for Azeroth and then, the nail in the coffin, Shadowlands - two bad expansions in a row.
    By this point there were so many confusing, grindy, boring, ineffective, counter intuitive systems in the game to give your character power. These were then scrapped each expansion and they designed new ones. They were impossible to balance and the majority of development time of the game was spent trying to fix these gameplay systems - which experienced and casual players alike had pointed out the flaws of in testing the game before it released during Alpha and Beta. This meant that they weren't developing fun things to do in the game such as adding new areas, balancing classes. They were just fixing the systems that nobody wanted in the first place and gutting the fun of playing your character at the end of the expansion anyway. All while charging a monthly subscription fee and having an in game real money cosmetic shop that got more and more things in it, instead of rewarding achievements in game.
    Even the most dedicated players and guilds and communities started leaving the game in droves, and from their peak of more than 10 million, by BFA and Shadowlands it was estimated that 1 million or fewer players remained.
    Shadowlands, the expansion that was current when Pint's video released, had one feature that early in development people *loved*. Torghast. It was a unique sort of experience. But once the game released fully they changed it, made it boring and mandatory to do for boring but required rewards. The expansion was so bad, and came at the same time as the investigation and lawsuit by the state of California. The game was poor, the company was morally bankrupt, and it was done.
    Even more people quit the game due to this, including a huge amount of content creators.
    Pint was one of them. All the most popular streamers, youtubers, etc, many of whom had been based purely on WoW for a literal decade or more, quit the game publicly, refusing to support the company.
    Where did they go? Mostly to Final Fantasy 14. It had been out for a long time but the original launch was a disaster - one of the worst games made truly. A veteran developer (Yoshi P) took over and slowly turned it around.
    People had stuck with WoW for so long, even as the soul and fun of the game had slowly been sucked out more and more. A lot of references are made in this video to "being on copium" for years (hoping and trying to convince oneself that something will get better). When he talks about people singing and dancing and smiling in FF14 it's because the majority of WoW's remaining playerbase was burnt out, feeling the game was more like a job or chore than a game, but had sunk too much time into it to quit. So when people finally tried out other games, they found it was a far more enjoyable experience.
    For WoW players, and content creators who reacted to this video (it's so popular almost everyone did, and many of them are already familiar with Pint's unique social antics from years of WoW videos) they got massive laughs out of things like "Now now keep clicking, you wouldn't want to go back to Torghast would you?" - Literally clicking in the same spot for 10 hours straight being more preferable to the alternative back in WoW.

    I can't wait to get around to trying FF14. I've been putting it off for so long to play ESO but haven't been able to log in, possibly cause I'm on an old Razer laptop from 5 years ago XD. I think maybe it's time to give Final Fantasy the chance that it deserves and that I've been waiting to give it. Always love your guys' videos, keep up the reacting undefinitively!

    You guys MUST react to Barny64`s "Most epic classic wow adventure", it's a 3 part series telling how her and her guild went on to try and get 18 of the rarest and most grindy mount in the entire game that is available only during a certain period of time and then it's completely UNNOBTAINABLE FOREVER.
    It is the BEST wow video series

    Ff14 community love new players and has a bit for all. You really don’t have to be the greatest ❤ Imo ff14 is an rpg before and mmo. Yes it does have mmo aspects.
    I also think the game does a really good job at introducing to mechanics over time and teaching new players how things work when it comes to combat and so forth.
    Don’t get me wrong the community is wonderful but at times you do run into toxic peeps. However, they aren’t very common in the game from what I have experienced.

    You don't need to work your way up to an MMO, Final Fantasy 14 is incredibly beginner friendly. Especially the community. I've never seen it in any other game. They are unbelievably wellcoming, patient and eager to help. And like he said, the Story is Amazing. If you're into RPG's then 14 is worth a play if only for the story.

    In the most recent patches they changed buying houses. No more standing around a placard for 24-78 hours clicking. Instead they implemented a lottery system. 1 bid per person so you have to pick where you'd like to live, and when ya make a bid, you cannot make a bid anywhere else. And then you just have to hope when the bidding period ends, that your number is the winner. And best of all, your money you put down if you lose, is returned. So overall, housing is a lot better now.

    So, for what it's worth, I feel like FFXIV actually does a pretty good job of building you up from a level of incredibly simple gameplay (and the trial is free, so there's that). The biggest disadvantage it would have for 'non-gamers' is that the combat is in real time. To that end, if you are uncomfortable with real time combat in your first game, I would highly recommend Final Fantasy X instead. The story is amazing and the combat is entirely turn-based with no actual time element. FFX has it's own disadvantage in that the system of leveling up is a bit weird, and optimizing that system is a task for better gamers than I, but the game is still incredibly fun in my opinion.

    We differ a lot from WoW in that a lot of the endgame is centered around domesticated, slice-of-life style play like Pint said: bards literally performing music, choreographed routines like dances &emote combos a bartender performs while mixing drinks, interior design, marriage ceremonies, the list goes on. People go to clubs on a regular basis (brothels too lol)
    Very story driven game (progressing the story is the only way to progress into the endgame), sure, but also a very social/community driven game (especially at endgame)
    It's also really easy to put down & pick back up again later, as catching up from wherever you left off is in mind for the business model of the game. Topically, the only thing compelling you to not cancel your sub is if you're a homeowner, but even then you can take a little over a month off like Pint said

    Thankfully the housing system has changed and for the better. It is far more accessible now, and they have added a ton more house availability, though with it being much easier to get into, the number of interested parties has also skyrocketed. The creative side of this game is one of the best, and people make anything from cozy cabins, to modern flats, Nightclub esque venues that hold events and even have working staff that are other players, dance halls, cafe's, magic libraries, the list really does go on. Thats all just within the housing system and player ingenuity bounds too. The story is also one of my personal favorites ever told, but part of that is they've had time many other games just don't get to unfold it. Also lots of cute outfits and amazing characters ranging from cute to fierce to fiercely cute.

    My favorite memory with this game is sitting in one of the main towns and playing songs from games on an instrument my class (bard) has, you can use keyboard keys to simulate harp strings or guitar and stuff, so Id play the game of thrones music for example and get a small crowd of other players sitting down or dancing in front of me

    Even now with the new system, people still find a way to buy up multiple houses and are trying to own entire Wards within the housing districts. Which frankly isn't allowed. But people want to be greedy a-holes and rob other players of the opportunity. Despite how hard the Devs try to make things fair. Even going so far as adding more houses every now and then so more players can try to get one.

    So what had caused Square enix to set up the original housing system with the random timer was due to a guild that started monopolizing it by buying up all the houses in a district and then reselling them to other players for bogus prices. Robbing other players of the chance to get a house fairly. So the Devs had to change the system to prevent that from happening again.

    Ooo Pint videos are great! And I see that others have recommended Cider Spider also! They both are great creators for FF14. As far as playing an MMO, I would definitely recommend FF14 to all beginners. You get a tutorial from the beginning and the community is one of the friendliest I have experienced. And it looks like you have many in your TH-cam community who would be eager to assist. (I’ve been playing for 18 months and have barely cracked the 2nd expansion-there is so much to do and you can really go at your own pace)

    Yeah if u like the house part then just wait untill u se the decorations that ppl do inside them. Real life interior decorators could learn a thing or 2 from those ppl. There are ppl in Final Fantasy that are paid substantial amounts of in-game gold and likly real cash aswell to decorate houses for ppl. It is nuts what some of them can do, aswell as the role-playing thats going on inside the diffrent themed houses, bars and mansions that players have designed themselfs.

    FF14 is pretty overwhelming at first. Lots of tutorial text boxes. But once you get the systems down it's pretty easy to play. And nearly everything in the main story that requires you to play with other people is usually very simple and casual. Most people don't even bother talking in those. And no matter where you are in the game, if you have a question you just ask and someone will answer it.
