Features like device assistant or Bixby are things that actually hinder a device for an advanced user. At this poi t the only way to get rid of it is to become a super user by rooting your phone. I'm having issues we 2.0. Example: asking to call "Jay Allen". It types J Elon! Can't find? A quick command, call Susan, says not in contacts after previously working then starts working off and on? Ask to close a open app, says app not open, it clearly is. Answering a call, Bixby either can't hear or is late to respond and call goes to voicemail. Cannot hear while music or other media playing? 2.0 is worse than 1.0. Really needs to be reworked!
      I've tried different settings, not helping.

  • @dannf3736

    It's simple.. Google assistant to general tasks, Bixby for the more internal phone functions.
    I'm telling you, that Google-Bixby combo, if managed well; is great.

    • @jtheexistentialist1221
      @jtheexistentialist1221 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Maybe for someone that is slow and clumsy with a device, could your statement even be true. This app is a waste of storage. Requires your microphones and cameras to be constantly turned on. Your location to must be on high accuracy mode which kills your battery even worse than just basic location service. your Info must be processed somewhere in a server. Your being tracked for this tech to work. All tracking tech, when enabled, just drains your battery and gives other people too much info about yourself. Your phone knows you better than your future ex.

    The problem with Bixby was a PR one on Samsung's part. They imposed Bixby with zero ways to deactivate it at first (S8) and a fixed, unchangeable physical button. Shoving Bixby down our throats over Google Assistant (doing the same) was too much for most people.

    Was never a big fam of Bixby. I do have to admit that the automated commands were really good, however, some have changed the way they work on Bixby 2.0. Now you actually have to unlock the phone with a PIN, Fingerprint or iris scan, instead of voice control only. Also, can no longer teach Bixby and get points for it. I did have it setup at one point, where I would tell it to "self-destruct", it would ask for my voice confirmation, then start factory resetting the phone; another feature no longer available.

      This a great video and I learn some new things thank you. I hated Bixby, my first interaction with it is when I got the note 8, that Bixby button is so annoying and it can not be remapped and it was so sensitive at the time, samsung literally forcing this feature on it customers and that why most people hated Bixby and never gave it a chance, I buy a android to be able to customize the phone to my liking, so when apps come out that would let you remap that button, and Samsung disable that app with an update than again causing more people to resent Bixby.

    • @mikelitisore7456
      @mikelitisore7456 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      chris18112 well said. Samsung know that they are late in the AI game and it's customers will ignore Bixby and continue with Google. The vision is for a global Samsung eco system...including fridges, tv's, washing machines, SMART home etc. Bixby is needed to achieve this AI goal so therefore ensure its customers buy in to using the app. That's where the fixed button, baked in apps and sponsored vids come in. Maybe it is a great thing - however, the way Bixby has been forced (with an obvious agenda) has gotten people's backs up more than the app it's self?

    The drawback that I have found is that the voice assistant will activate while I am watching TV and literally anything close to "Hi Bixby" is spoken. It also has a latent problem that would allow someone to hack your phone and record whatever is going on wherever the phone is located.

    Thanks for a wonderful presentation on Bixby; This may get me to at least try to use Bixby to automate certain tasks. My problem with Bixby is apparent inability to decide not to have Bixby on my phone. One of the things that turned me away from Apple products is it seems Apple has more control over the device than the user does. I don't like the idea that I have to occasionally verify my Apple device by logging into the iCloud. I know why Apple does this; I just don't like that I am not give a CHOICE in the matter. If I buy a phone, I should be given a choice of security levels and apps on my phone or not without having to root the device.
    My Note 9 was a replacement for my Note 3 which has become obsolete only due to the fact the Samsung has not released a more recent version of Android for the phone. Planned obsolescence is another pet peeve for another day. As for the Note 9, I am extremely happy with the phone so far. The battery life is great and I don't wake up to a dead phone if I forget to charge it. The wireless charging is also very nice. I am going to give Bixby a chance after this presentation.
    BTW; the title of "Bixby - Why Do Some People Hate It?" followed by a tutorial on its benefits and usage is a brilliant marketing move. Attract the unknowing skeptics and convert them...

    That is the most in depth voice command product I've seen work yet. I think everyone is frustrated by it because like me they hit the Bixby side button on accident and figured it was just another speech to text just like a google or siri where it just was for internet searches. Mentioning it creates display settings, enters into apps and searches for content, takes pictures, stores and names folders, changes speaker output etc. are a string of commands that can all be assigned to just a single phrase is a whole phone integrated hardware feature that the competition simply doesnt have. Game changer.

    I know this is a few months old, but as far as the quick commands go, once you think of a QC, have Bixby go through all of those commands that you want to use, and then go to create that quick command, theres a spot on the top of the screen that says 'history' . From there you should be able to find and select all of your recently used commands, which is a lot easier than searching all of Bixby's commands.

    Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. I was hearing a lot of negatives about this but I wasn't really sure what it was. I hate all digital assistants, it's not them, it's me, yes, it's personal. I don't want a phone with Siri, Bixby, Cortana, Google now, etc. They seriously creep me out. Can Bixby be uninstalled? I finally managed to get Cortana off my laptop but it took a visit to a techy friend to figure it out.

    I love reviews like this that are actually reviewed more than a few weeks to a few months other than just a first impression combined with a review and formulating a long-term opinion of it with that. You're one of the very very few people of Tech TH-camrs that I have watched who actually tested out Bixby and gave an honest opinion about it after using it for a somewhat extended period of time rather than those so-called reviews who would just shut down Bixby completely with their first impressions without giving it a try for awhile. Kudos to you!

    I use Bixby quick commands to set the timer for Laundry because it doesn't work if I tell it to set the exact time I want.
    The issue with Bixby is it doesn't understand you and is low on AI compared to Google or Alexa.
    Apple may not give Siri the power to control everything, but for the things you need to access quickly by voice - Siri gets it done.

    Just wanted to say "Thank You" for explaining the Bixby feature. So clear, concise and simply stated without all the tech talk. I really had no plans to use it, now I will, may be a valuable tool for me to use. You talked about "Mac n Cheese"; who doesn't love that. I have a suggestion to liven up that mac n cheese, for you. Mom made it this way, still my favorite....Recipe for my favorite...… Make the M n C as you normally would. But while waiting for the noodles to cook, chop up some SPAM, lightly cook it on a pan. Then cook some peas or corn, or both...Then add them to your mac n cheese. The SPAM alone gives it a great and unique flavor. By adding 1 or both veggies, it adds flavor, texture and nutrition.Give it a try, hope you enjoy it.Thanks for the video.

    I will admit, I haven't given Bixby a fair shake. Coming from Windows Phone 10 nearly 2 years ago, I've mostly used Cortana and Google Assistant, when I absolutely had to. One of the best things about Cortana was being able to receive calls or texts and having the ability to respond over Bluetooth using my voice, after Cortana asking what actions I wanted to take. If Bixby does this, it will be my new go to assistant. So, I will honestly give Bixby an honest try and see where it goes, especially with the new Pie update on my Note 8.
    Thanks for sharing your insight!
