    Can't big/strong muscles around the knee compensate for the ligaments almost entirely? My trainer was saying some new research is exploring the possibility that the knee ligaments aren't even needed for sports.

    Hoping for his recovery. It’s sad to see players getting injured. I get that it’s part of the game, but it’s just sad.
    A part of me thinks that there’s a difference on this PG injury vs the Giannis injury and that is there was an outside force (Dort’s leg) that prevented the knee from bending forward/forced the leg to buckle and bend backwards.
    With Giannis, it was mostly about his positioning on that landing, the was no outside force.

      I agree. This is one of those injuries that usually looks worse than it is. The knee is very tough in that direction. The way it bent inward instead of side to side usually means it's not that bad. Its side to side movement that is typically a bad indicator from my experience. However, because it's the NBA I assume they'll take precautions so wouldn't be surprised if regardless of the severity he misses rest of season + playoffs.

    I hyperextended my knee a few years ago, getting out of a pool during a swim meet. It was a minor hyperextension compared to these players, but it was still the most pain I've ever felt. I couldn't walk for 3 days. I wish him the best.

    I just did my research and had to deep dive into his last big injury this was his surgically repaired leg. Now i may not be qualified to mention that but it coupd have something to do with the seriousness of his current injury. Could impact him now and moving forward. Hopefully he will be okay and recover over time but that leg snapped and its the same exact leg that broke from 2014.

    • @cameronno6039
      @cameronno6039 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same leg. Different areas and weight-bearing mechanics. The lower leg snapped in the past. This injury centers at the knee. Both freak injuries but completely independent. The lower leg did what it was supposed to do here (provide support for the knee). The knee served as the fulcrum as the Dr explained. Further, bone healing is constant but about 80 percent of expected healing occurs over three first few months. Continued healing occurs over years. Either way, this is far enough out to unlikely be an issue even in the same area of the initial injury. Just fyi. No judgement, and good consideration in your part.

    The worst case is this injury is similar to Shaun Livingston’s and he’s has a multi ligament damage; tearing his acl and pcl and possibly a femur or tibia fracture/break. The best case, he has a severe hyper extension and/or just has one of: acl or pcl is damaged or torn. Either way he’ll be out for the season, given the amount of games they have left.

    As a Lakers fan who hates the Clippers, and who used to make fun of Paul George when everyone else did, I pray for his recovery. I've really come to appreciate his game and him as a person, and I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. It's unfortunate this happened in the same game that he did a 360 dunk that was arguably the dunk of the Year. I hope he gets better. Prayers up.

    What I find weird, is that I’ve only ever seen athletic, thinner guys and gals have this happen. You’d think that larger athletes would hyper extend more. And I am a big guy and played pickup basketball a lot. But I’ve never seen a larger person have this happen. Which I find so weird because of the amount of weight that is coming down onto the joint.
