what's difficult for me, is that i still think lauri can be developed even more, and reach crazy superstar levels - in a league where we see so many "big game" go to teams with high expectations, and simply fall to young gun teams these days - i'm not sold on "big game" hunting right now.
I hate the Derozen idea. I don’t think anyone in our young core is an All-Star, so I don’t want to coddle/protect them just to wind up at a future 45-win team. We need talent, young talent, and really the only path to that is our own picks. I’m happy to tank for the next 3-4 years.
We need to tank and go all in on cooper Flaggs! That should be our focus. He has superstar potential and isn't going to need the lime light coming from where he was raised. That's the focus right now and we're in a good place to do that! Play the youth and tank!
I remember talking to GS fans after Klay's injuries and trying to explain to them that his offense might come back, because he's a good shooter and good shooters can get by without being athletic, but he was never going to be the kind of defender he was before.
DeRozen is 34 years old! No way! Why do a rebuild just to sign an aging player? Paul George is 34. So is Klay. Chris Paul is 39. The teams that signed these guys will regret it. Father Time is undefeated. I don't want any guys on the downside of their careers.
Not understanding why we would sign and trade Dunn? Why take on other salary for players that are unknown without Dunn’s leadership on the floor and in locker room? :/ Especially since culture is so important, his play and his story of how to work hard to stay in NBA
So what you’re saying that Sexton, Clarkson, Collins, Markkanen are not a good enough veteran core to mentor the youth? Also there is no guarantee if we get picks for Markkanen that they are high enough or payoff.
Sexton, Collins and Clarkson are not improving at all. Sexton and Clarkson would only teach them to not pass the ball because they do that so well. If I have to watch another season of Sexton driving the lane on every Jazz possession I am going to get pissed.
@@adamw7290 I understand where you’re coming from but also that kind of aggressive play is one of the things they’re trying to instill in Hendricks and Kessler.
Where is the evidence that playing rookies without veterans "ruins them"? Signing Demar derozen to develop young guys that may or may not make it will only cause us to miss out on the draft pick that will actually be a game changer. Absolutely not.
With great draft coming the next two years, time to get serious about the draft and the only way to tank enough to get into the top 5 picks is to either trade Lauri or sit him the entire season.
If they trade Lauri then getting Derozen is ridiculous. So sure lets trade a 27 year old talent because narrative from many says he doesnt fit our team as he bit older just so we can get a 34 year old. Hope Jazz get Derozen and Gary Trent while Lauri is here.
No we should NOT trade Lauri. If he isn't good enough, then why does the rest of the league want him so much? Sounds like a rope-a-dope. Everyone would like to trade for him for cheap if they can fool the jazz into it.
Do the Jazz want to win a championship or not? Does Ryan Smith want a championship parade down State Street or not? Because it'll never happen if Danny Ainge keeps obsessing about drafts. He needs to forget about drafts and go for the playoffs and build off that.
To make deals right now after the draft picks they got inho is foolish! To say it takes 4 to 5 years to develop a player is also BS. Ive seen plenty of players get drafted and make an immediate impact. We got 3 good players let them play! Keep Laurie.
Why get Derozan and win 35-40 wins? I prefer top 5 pick not 10th pick. Getting Derozan would be simply dumb my opinion! Trade Lauri to Spurs and get Vassell and four firsts which includes a couple Hawks pick and bottom out and have great drafts in 2025 and 2026
Sexton, Lauri, Clarkson, John Collins, Kessler (against second units) and the altitude in home games are good enough to not be terrible and still be in a good drafting position. I dont think we need derozan
Trade Lauri so we can get a bunch of young unproven players or a bunch of future draft picks that we HOPE one of those players turns out to be nearly as good as Lauri is now. STUPID.
Sorry! Long response! Derozen makes no sense total waste. He's old, no range, he doesn't play winning basketball in todays league. I totally can see the Jazz listening to offers on Lauri just to see what teams are willing to do, but probably more importantly, if we are trying to package some other trade or target other free agents, you keep teams sidelined in competing on those other offers in hopes the Jazz will do something with Lauri all but to fall for the decoy. That said, I could also see Danny looking to capitalize on a huge package and tank this year with a bunch more picks coming in big drafts for 25' and 26'.... With the chance to have enough capital to possibly guarantee a Cooper Flaggs win even if we didn't get the #1 pick. I can see Danny going for that getting the timing on all of the youth building together to see who become future stars and filling in from there. I just don't see any legit trades or free agent signings that get us a huge increase to compete and be on a pathway to be a contender. Unless we can pull off a trade to get Giannis and perhaps another at the level of maybe Booker (other combinations might work too but very few)... I just don't see how or why you try and just be mid level. Its a big gamble and you've possibly lost your chance with giving up capital on moves that aren't top talent that will get us to that competing level. So... I think it only makes sense to bite the bullet and do the full tank. If you can get massive hauls especially in 25 and 26 to totally stack our youth all together, which will be painful, but it sets up riding out past many of the best teams in the league and reshuffles the power in the league... we would be in a much better position to compete when the league is finding its new stars. Lots of teams like the Lakers have leveraged their future just to have bad teams, so they really will struggle and the power will shuffle to the teams that have been accumulating and timing their play on when to attack and go for it. SO... if there's a haul to be had with trading Lauri, I think you just do it IF it gets us big positions in the next 2 drafts and not stretching it out for future plans unless that's to use in trading up and packaging picks in the upcoming drafts but still no guarantees other teams will deal and negotiate if you need to. Otherwise we have one of the best players in the league that wants to be here in Lauri, and there's a lot of value in that too to build around and have as a leader and example to the youth.
Context matters with Paul George though. The ONLY reason he left the Clippers was because they refused to offer the 4 year max, and only would offer the 3 year max. Philly offered the 4 year max, and he wanted that extra year at a ridiculous salary seeing as how it's likely his last big payday being 34 right now. So I don't think we should put much if any stock in it in terms of it being a sign of things to come.
always good stuff, but when Brian Windhorst is talking about the Jazz trading Lauri, we need to listen. We are not going to get the same haul that bridges deal, but I think it could be close. I don't want Lauri to go, but we need to tear it down more and go all in for the 2025 draft for Flagg or others. Correct me if I am wrong, but we lose our 2025 pick to OKC if we are not in the top 8 of the draft. How much money do the jazz need to spend to be at the threshold at the start of the season.
@ZachAttackIsBack it's about context. GMs say they aren't doing their job if they don't call to ask about players or draft picks that might be available. Of all the calls and offers probably less than 1% turn into actual trades
How about trading Laurie, Colin and Kessler to the Pels for Brandon Ingram and picks and then whatever else needs to make the trade numbers work? Solid young player and more picks to work around.
@@robertomaldonado2723 I think we are going to see a pivot at some point. We have had no success in Free Agency. Who are we going to add that is going to make us a difference, not just this year, but down the road? DeMar could help for a year, but not part of a long term plan. I think we could be close to a play in game, but I would rather have a top 8 pick next year. No one wants Clarkson or Collins currently, maybe at the trade deadline. I am little surprised we haven't been able to move sexton. he will be the first one to go if Lauri doesn't get traded
Is the real problem here that we pivoted to tanking last year instead of conveying the pick? What I mean is the rumors are we were looking to trade for Dejounte Murray and Mikel Bridges to then also pursue Paul George to build a team up with Lauri, but because we didn't convey the pick, we're incredibly hamstrung in what we can offer in these trades? Hypothetically, had we seriously played out the end of the year, finished 11th or 12th and gone out in the play-in, then the pick is conveyed and we have a lot more compelling packages to offer to Atlanta and New Jersey. I could be off here, but it feels like finishing in no mans land in the lottery instead of trying to make it to the play-in was the mistake here.
If the draft in 2025 ends up as good as its projected to be, then aiming for the top of the lottery sounds like a terrible strategy. Obviously it's a probability game and you can still end up with a top 4 pick (like we saw with the Hawks this year) but bottoming out when there are multiple projected stars (unlike this past draft) is actually quite useful--maybe even more useful than the Wemby draft when there was really only one target so it was all down to the first overall pick.
Its a tough call. OKC made it through the suck but they had an actual superstar talent in Shai. The Jazz do not. So the other side is the Rockets who were like David's negative scenario where they all just played AAU ball with no one to show them how to do things correctly.
I hope we keep Lauri and Colin as veteran influence and trade Clarkson and Collins for assets ( though both have been wonderful, especially Jordan) and otherwise go young for one more year. Then go full throttle ahead for winning. So sad to hear about Dunn he's been great.
I do like Derosen if keeping markkanen as a guy to help teach young guys while I'm excited about cody williams potential as wing he doesn't look ready. The jazz don't really have true wing ready for starter min now. demar Derosen is a vet cody williams could learn from. As to another comment I'd prefer kelden Johnson or vessel over castle personally jazz have enough rookies on the team.
Hi David you nailed it on the video. Great video! I am down with whatever Ainge does. Just a suggestion, I would like to see Sexton and Clarkson go because they ball hog.
Sexton doesn't know how to pass the ball, it pisses me off. Why should the other players even be on the court when he rarely passes. I don't think I can stomach another season of watching Sexton drive the lane about every Jazz possession. Basketball is a team sport!!!
Please no Derozen. Utah needs 1 draft where we get a top 3 pick. Get Kuminga and see if he can be the #1 on the team. Sign Trent jr in free agency as the second best if you must, keep Sexton and Collins . Then get vets next offseason. There are legitimately 9 teams tanking: Detroit, Washington, Charlotte, nets, Toronto, Portland, Jazz, bulls, and maybe Spurs. We have to be worse than all but 2-3. Lauri won’t do that.
If they wanna trade Lauri they shouldn't do it this year, they should sign then trade him. They'd get more next year teams cap space are close to locked in now. Next year their will be more teams better picks/players. Love Lauri though
The 2025 draft is stacked. We Must KEEP OUR 2025 PICK, otherwise any hopes of us contending in the future goes away. Big Game Hunting can come from the 2025 draft. We have two picks from the Cavs, and Wolves (but those picks will be poat lottery. Our pick unless it is in the top 10 will go to the Thunder. WE CANNOT HAVE THAT HAPPEN. To make sure that happens, we MUST trade Lauri. I can see why he wants to win, he is 27 years old, he's in his prime, anybody would. By the time we are ready to starting winning, Lauri will be past 30, and therefore on the decline, we'd be in the same situation we are now with Jordan Clarkson. I don't want that, and I don't think he does. Sorry to say it, but I agree it is true, the best thing to do is to trade him, but we need to get young stars back. The Kings are not happening because they are not willing to give Keegan Murray, nor are the Warriors because they aren't willing to give up Kuminga. I think the best trade out there for Lauri is with the Spurs. We would get Tre Jones, Jeramy Sochan, and 3-4 picks. We could also trade them Collin Sexton, and get Keldon Johnson, Malachi Branham and Blake Wesley in return. Now you have size and youth to build around and you can tank and be in the Cooper Flagg, Ace Bailey, or Dylan Harper sweepstakes that is the 2025 draft. We are talking the next AK, Paul George, James Harden and so on. Those are what those players are compared to. Those are players you can build around and actually win with and continue to help them grow, thus our team gets better. This is why trading Lauri is the best option. We also need to trade John Collins and Jordan Clarkson, but I'm sure you already knew that.
I would like to see DeRozan on the team. Trade Collins, Sexton and Clarkson for him. I would like to see those three gone from the Jazz, they are deadwood.
While it's a bad day for Jazz fans as you say, it really ought to be a horrible day for Danny Ainge...we keep the team together and we are the best team the Nuggets face in the playoffs and maybe we beat them that year...Ainge's decisions aren't aging well. And this whole big hunting idea that probably worked in Boston, isn't at all the same in Utah and he looks like a fool for playing the game the same way here he did there. He said 3-5 years we would be a contender, this next season is year 3. If he sends Lauri packing, he grossly underestimated his ability to create a contender here in the timeline he originally promised. He has yet to trade a good player for an even better player since he's been here. Honestly, if hadn't been a legend at BYU, most the Fan base would be done with him...if he trades Lauri and doesn't land a bonafide star in 2025, I personally think we should reconsider moving forward with Ainge.
I don’t think Lauri is enough to make a huge difference in the win column for us alone. I say keep him because we know what he is, if the Jazz tank then we’re rolling the dice on someone being what Lauri already is.
We’re rolling the dice on getting a top-10 player to compliment Lauri as a top 20-30. If we can keep Lauri and get a top-5 pick, great! But I also worry that Lauri is too good on his own and could get us to 30 wins and 7-8 pick range. Ideally we keep him.
If the Jazz were serious about winning instead of obsessed about tanking, they never would have traded Rudy or Conley or Kelly or Tech. You take those players plus DeRosan who still is a bell cow, a guy who can carry a team, even at 34 yrs old, with what we have now minus Kessler, we can win. But, Ainge doesn't want to win; he wants to tank for the next 3 years hoping to find a pair of young superstars like what he had in Boston. However, for that to happen, you have to get quite a bit lucky with the loto. And, also, he knows he can't tell Jazz fans he wants to tank 5 years in a row. So, that is why we hear him talking from both sides of his mouth. Remember Jazz fans, don't listen to what he says, watch what he does.
If you recall Joe Johnson how good he was in Utah, now demar is going to be better than that! Then you have any of our young guys step up like Mitchell did and you've got yourself a good start. For a Jazz fan to not want demar you'll never get what you actually want. He's a 20+ points a night guy.
He’s also really old. I don’t want to make the playoffs this year, or compete hard every night. I want a championship, I’ve given 40+ years to this team as a fan and would love to have just one championship. I’m all for the tank.
@@drevan1138 he's same age all Paul George. You'll never win a championship if you trade your top guy for picks over and over again. We're primed to make a move. We have 7 youngsters and 1 number 2 guy we need a couple more pieces. Demar isn't the be all ticket but is a dang nice piece.
@@drevan1138 yeah I'm saying everyone would of died if we got pg but everyone would be mad if we got Demar they're pretty dang similar in age and production
I’m more against someone like Derozan. I’d love to keep Lauri AND get a top-5 pick this year, but the last two years tells me we might be too good with him and wind up in the 9-10 range again. Lauri is great and could still fit our timeline, but keeping him could keep us a middle-of-the-pack team vs a 20% chance at a title in 5-7 years. I’ve had enough good Jazz teams, I want a (chance at a) truly great one again.
Well glad we held onto all our future late first from Cleveland and Minnesota now neither are very good tradable assests so we did not use them to get future star and now they are all worth garbage
David, I've listened to you for years and years and I now agree with you for the first time ever. Sorry I talked shit, but we agree here. This is your best work. Thanks
As a Cavs fan I do believe that is very possible he leaves ....not this upcoming year...but by the trade deadline of year 25-26...which allows Cavs to get a good haul from either Miami or Houston....that in itself would ensure that none of those future draft picks going to Utah are outside the lottery. Evan Mobleys development is the most important factor right now in Cleveland!
I guess trading Lauri depends on how much you value him. To me he is Porter of the nuggets, 3rd best player on contender and teams offering a ton you have to do it
Castle, ATL 1st 2025, ATL 1st 2027, SAS 1st 2029, DAL 1st 2030, SAS 1st pick swap 2030, SAS 1st 2031, MIN 1st 2031 for Laurie. That is the haul Ainge and Zanik needs to want to move off of him. Anything less, we should keep him and build around Lauri.
My last name is Muir too! I want to keep Lauri as the top priority but I love Castle. It’s hard to give up a top 3 high volume 3 point shooter that can also rim protect and jump out of the gym.

If a team wants to trade for Lauri Markkanen which is the Utah Jazz best player then that team give up their best player. SA wants Lauri then they have to give up Wamby, OKC would need to give up ASG, Lakers would have to give up Huchamoria, Reeves and Dalton. So best player for best player.
Yes, you have the idea that the fans want. I think DeRozan would entice Markannen to sign and would get the fans excited, while being the perfect role model for the young guys...
Some fans* we got to embrace the tank, and let our guys develop through experience. So what if they suck, they gotta learn sooner rather than later, and not having the ball in their hands will prevent us from know what we have. Tear it down, run with the younger guys next year.

So we trade Lauri to hopefully draft someone as good as Lauri? What?
No wonder Quin Snyder said no. Two rebuilds in three years? Yeah, thanks but no thanks.
I like Sexton... Only move him if Lauri gets moved.
Sexton doesn't know how to pass the ball, it pisses me off. Why should the other players even be on the court when he rarely passes. I don't think I can stomach another season of watching Sexton drive the lane about every Jazz possession. Basketball is a team sport!!!
@@adamw7290 Yet over Sexton's last 56 games he averaged 5.6 assists a game.
If Lauri goes somewhere i really hope he goes to Knicks.
Lakers need Lauri to win now, we need new core. But wont be free, need Knecht, RUI, and 1 pick at least.
Kuminga,Moody, Podzeimski and 2 firsts ?? Keep dreaming .... 😂😂😂
We also need to trade John Collins and Jordan Clarkson, but I'm sure you already knew that.
spurs are not trading Devin Vassel
Jazz should target Brandon Ingram and picks in return for Lauri and get a third team involved to fill out a suitable roster
It seems like no matter what we’re stuck in purgatory.
@@chaserush91 right, on the age point, but Philly is ready now, we’re still years away.
Since the Jazz traded Donovan, being a Jazz fan is a waste of time if you want to see your team in the finals.
Well glad we held onto all our future late first from Cleveland and Minnesota now neither are very good tradable assests so we did not use them to get future star and now they are all worth garbage
You’re not getting Vessell my Spurs will however give you draft picks and keldon Johnson
Last contract Don signed he was gone a year later.
He belongs in OKC!
David, I've listened to you for years and years and I now agree with you for the first time ever. Sorry I talked shit, but we agree here. This is your best work. Thanks
Donovan isn't staying in Cleveland. He took the money and will ask out after next year's early playoff exit.
The future draft picks going to Utah I meant are not in the lottery!
Demar doesn’t move the needle
I guess trading Lauri depends on how much you value him. To me he is Porter of the nuggets, 3rd best player on contender and teams offering a ton you have to do it
If you are trying to win then get Levine and Derozan!
why? the bulls suck. why are you wanting to rebuild the failed Bulls?
Castle, ATL 1st 2025, ATL 1st 2027, SAS 1st 2029, DAL 1st 2030, SAS 1st pick swap 2030, SAS 1st 2031, MIN 1st 2031 for Laurie. That is the haul Ainge and Zanik needs to want to move off of him. Anything less, we should keep him and build around Lauri.
San Antonio laughs and hangs up the phone. I think there's a deal to be had for him, but i doubt the jazz can get that much.
We have no pressure to trade him so guess what? We extend him and laugh
My last name is Muir too! I want to keep Lauri as the top priority but I love Castle. It’s hard to give up a top 3 high volume 3 point shooter that can also rim protect and jump out of the gym.

I like the idea of Castle. Doubt Lauri is getting more than the four pucks and a pick swap that Mykell Bridges got
How about we trade Lauri for all the assests and then sign Demar to be the stabilizing force while we tank?
Jazz on a decade rebuild.
don't trade lauri Markkanen. Trade Jordan c. and tht
If Jazz don’t trade Markkenon, it would be a mistake at least with trading him you have a direction of tanking for 2025 and 2026 drafts
Utah's best player is a max. second option on a championship winning team 🤷🏻
Lets be honest the best players don’t need a model. If they break then they were never that guy. We need “that guy”
Why not miles bridges
If they do it will prove the jazz are a farm club for the nba.
JC needs to go, been saying this for awhile, should of got rid of him a minute ago, bro is getting older and turnovers.
I always trading Rudy bc big contract but Mitchell I would have kept he stayed in Cleveland then he prolly stays in Utah
No thanks... Get tristan vukcevic for cheap.
Cool ABA shirt....Oh how the USA misses the ABA, such a better more entertaining league than the NBA....
don't trade lauri Markkanen. Trade Jordan c. and tht
