We like Valladolid for the charm and size. It is large enough to have some good hotel options and places to eat. There is also enough to keep you busy for a few days here. When traveling to the Yucatan, this important city is a good place to make a stop. If you are visiting the Rivera Maya, Valladolid is a nice place to come because it offers a contrast to the beach and newer parts of Mexico.
Valladolid is very central in the peninsula. It is only a 1 1/2-hour drive from Playa Del Carmen. There are many ADO buses daily between all major cities in the peninsula. the Tren Maya is also operating and has a stop in Valladolid. The station is about a 5-minute taxi ride from the center. So far, only taxis are available for transportation to and from the Tren Maya Station.
