I love how he says “tries to hide me from my pain” rather than “hide the pain”.
Holy cow, if you want more personal stuff, listen to "Either Way." It is so relatable for a lot of people and the hurt in his voice ... it hurts to hear it. My favorite is the live performance on Charlie Rose.
Either Way is the song that made me check out Chris in the first place. He sang it on The Voice and I was hooked. Just went to my second Stapleton concert April 23, 2022 in Lexington, KY. The first one in Virginia he wasn't feeling too good and apologized but said he do his best, but my hubs who wasn't as familiar with him said, "If this is how sings when he is sick, what the hell does he sound like when he feels good?" We found out in Lexington. He was on FIRE!

Chris is that once in a lifetime talent that can hit you in the feels. You can't teach that. You either have it or you don't. Some can pull it off for maybe one or two songs but Chris does it every single time.

As I fell down the Chris Stapleton rabbit hole this song and Either Way quickly became two of my favorite ballads. The live version of this song on Kix Brooks Radio show is frickin awesome.
He also wrote, among a jillion other songs that were hits for other artists, Your Man, which was a big hit for Josh Turner. I saw him do a live acoustic version on The Bobby Bones Show. He wrote it as a Valentines gift for his wife, Morganne.
