11:00 They're families of the crew and it is also something to consider that a Galaxy-class would be an ideal ship to help with planetary evacuations. So, you'd probably want to keep a lot of rooms empty for emergencies.
13:45 In FASA there were special rooms for Medusan navigators aboard this class. I like the idea that the ship has got a ton of sickbays to take on over 300 wounded in "Star Trek: A Final Unity".

My favorite was the bridge and the ready room. Being ex navy, the ready room was only officers and their mess staff, so i would imagine what they would talk about before they came onto the bridge and issued orders.😊

If a Dolphin crewmember is good enough for Captain Nathan Bridger, it's good enough for Captain Picard.
I've said before that I love families of Starships. The only other member of the Project Galaxy we saw in great detail was the Nebula Class. I would loved to have seen more of the family. They clearly had the same technology and design philosophies but they would have had a diverse range in terms of size and roles within the fleet. It's hard to pick out any aspect that is stronger or weaker, it's just a consistently good design in terms of interior and exterior.
Miles O'Brien's wife is Keiko (KAY-KO) All joking aside, O'Brien really is one of the greatest characters in Star Trek and his relationship with Keiko is a massive part of that. You have Kirk, Riker and Paris who have porked their way from one end of the galaxy to the other, and on the other end of the spectrum, you have the wholesome relationship of the O'Briens.
I've also said before that it's great showing us your more candid and spontaneous side. Some videos can, while still being well presented, can be too clinical. Hearing your sense of humour adds so much warmth to your videos and context to the work you put in.

There was a mirror universe novel where a dolphin was a specialist researching ‘hyper strings’ or some such… turns out they worked to bring the Mirror Enterprise D over where Picard, Troi and La Forge had to infiltrate by pretending to be their counterparts. The most I’ve seen Troi do in novels outside of Imzadi

    1. The term "Cetacean Ops" was not part of the original plans. It was simply Guidance and Navigation and was staffed by cetaceans. "Cetacean Ops" was a phrase only used in the alternate timeline seen in Yesterday's Enterprise.
    2. There were no porpoises. It was mainly dolphins of Tursiops genus.

Coco? Did you mean Keiko? 😂
She was a senior botanist in the arboretum on the Enterprise D. She only became a teacher on DS9 during the 1st season because there wasn't anything for her character to do and the actress didn't want to be full time on the series, so they blew up the school and sent her to Bajor for botanical research.

It’s stated that there are multiple sickbays in numerous places including separate areas we also see in some episodes for operations, for instance when Worfs back is broken in a cargo area accident where an entirely new spine is transplanted. We do get to see a small area of hydroponics in numerous episodes too. You gotta wonder how the whale like aliens manage to survive when a ship is about to go boom and hey need to use survival pods, do they have any specifically designed for aquatic crew members. Wish we got to see the supermarkets and stuff. Nice art by the way, I’ve done some of my own including my profile pic.

A cetacean officer prominently appears in the TNG novel, Dark Mirror where the Mirror Universe Picard and his crew try to capture the prime Enterprise. This story predates the DS9 revelation of the fate of the Terran Empire, but it's a very good story. And yes, Picard absolutely needs haircuts. Did you see him in Future Imperfect? He clearly needs an appointment with Mr Mot.

The reasons you state for using the main shuttle bay are likely the same reasons they chose *not* to use it when they didn't have to- it's unnecessary and is much more work to operate and maintain when it's capabilities are not needed. Using the smallest/cheapest/easiest viable option is almost always going to be your first choice as a commander. You try wherever possible to *minimise* the capabilities you are deploying so that you can retain them if needed. In the case of the shuttle bays going through the full safety checks, bay opening and deployment sequence is significantly more work for the crew and would incur significantly more maintenance than just using a secondary bay.
There are however times in the show where we *probably* should have seen the full complement of shuttles deployed and didn't, but the general purpose use of the secondary bays is very much justified

Enterprise's Main Engineering is my happy place. Also, I vehemently deny the existence of the whole "cetacean ops"-malarkey, it is just beyond stupid! I mean, navigation in space is actually the easiest part of spaceflight, you don't need any special skills for that...

    • @starshipreviews
      @starshipreviews  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

It is stupid, but in a very Star Trek way, it’s a universe where transporters rip you apart atom by atom and then make a copy somewhere else, where some water vapor made Tasha Yar feel frisky, and data feel love. Where everyone tolerates Wesley, and an omnipotent being messes with the captain for fun every few months.

As I remember that was because of the season budgets they were looking at after the pilot. If they hadn't built Main Engineering for Farpoint they really wouldn't have had the money to build it in season 1. So, realizing this, they promptly wrote a scene in Engineering.

Answer to the civilian thing. The galaxy tour was 10 uears, twice as long as the Connie. 10 uears is a long time so taking your family with out opens the pool of officers that can be assigned to her and civs likely to lower importance jobs over seen by and officer

I absolutely refuse to believe that was the “entire” fleet in S3 of Picard. The Federation is 7000 light years wide. Even at warp 9 it would still take months to get back to Earth from the frontier. Seeing the number of ships of the cut and paste fleet from Picard S1, at best that was a task force at Earth.
