What a marvellous performance, this is vocalising at its most magical. Sadly we live in an era where belting and hollering and shouting is seen as great vocal performing, but a pro like Peters proves that it's all in the gentlest nuances, the character of the voice, the whimsicality, vulnerability, and sheer beauty of her pipes. This is an absolutely haunting rendition.
And I left Liza Minnelli's attempt to sing "Some People" after twenty brutal seconds, to look for Peters singing it. Sigh of relief. Would it be blasphemy to suggest that the best version of Dolly Parton's "I will always love you" is, and always will be, Dolly Parton's?
...and she gave respect/credit to her piano player because it took the two of them to make that song. That's modesty. It's always the artists with humility that really make the grade. I've played guitar and piano all of my life and I've been in a thousand situations where I was laying down the song so some singer could do a "karaoke" to my music. It has always amazed me how rarely the singer would share the credit for making that song. Rather, they most often take all the credit and ignore the musician that is making it all possible.

I met her in a book store in the upper west side. She was standing over me with her angelic face and beautiful soul. She said it a good book. I was suffering from the loss of my mother. I raised my head and her presence and kindness gave me relief and closure. I hope she reads this short opinion. GD. What a hauntingly beautiful rendition! You can feel the lyrics in your bones. At the end of the singing, it seems like she has to bring herself back from the song. One of the greatest live performances on TV and with just her magical voice and a piano! I love that she doesn't do all the acrobatic and overly dramatic singing or strictly stick to the original. Instead she just sings with pure emotions and feelings and with her beautiful vibratos in a simply wonderful arrangement. I also love that she gives credit to Mark on the piano. I'm a fan. I had a huge crush on Bernadette. She was the total package. She could dance and sing. She was also very sexy and funny. I especially loved her voice. It has this sweet and innocent little girl sound to it, but yet she had a sweet of pipes on her, and could sing with the best of them. She was great when she appeared on shows like Carol Burnett, where all of these things were able to shine, as well as the films she was in.
I saw this live the night it aired and it is one of the pivotal moments in my music career,. I don't recall the year- late '80s? I never forgot this performance and how it moved me.

Absolute pure voice! Most people can't pull that off, with very little accompaniment. Accompaniment helped keep the song simple and pure..to spotlight her voice.
Nice interpretation of this song. Kind of operatic and kind of stage. She's also great at comedy. I remember her in a short-live sitcom in the mid-70s called "All's Fair" with Richard Crenna. Have always enjoyed her work.

Steve Endicott, I had to re-evaluate my thoughts about Mr. Williams when I found out why he died so young: He had Spinal Bifida as an infant and almost died. He was in pain most of his life from the effects of the disease. He self-medicated with alcohol because no one had any better medications or the knowledge to help him. One of the effects of SB is the weakening of the heart muscle. Hank was lucky to live as long as he did. I'm so glad he made it to 29, so we would have his lovely music forever.
