Many years ago I had the great fortune and pleasure to meet and work with the talented, lovely, and beautiful Bernadette Petters. Complementary and giving. Never a nicer celebrity and person you could ever meet! She is truly one in a million... Love you Bernadette!
Someday, Bernadette will be recognized as a voice in American music history. Excuse me, not just a voice, but an example of excellence in American music history.
@@vidiot9006 that's so not true, just because someone can't belt really high notes doesn't mean they aren't talented. Music trends and unique voices are constantly evolving which is what makes music so incredibly awesome
I met her in a book store in the upper west side. She was standing over me with her angelic face and beautiful soul. She said it a good book. I was suffering from the loss of my mother. I raised my head and her presence and kindness gave me relief and closure. I hope she reads this short opinion. GD. Created Bernadette to give us peace and happiness through her art creative compassion for others in pain 🙏 Respectfully Anthony Bove' ❤
Holy crap! Never thought I'd hear this song sung in a different genre other than country! WHAT a voice! She sings like an angel and Hank Williams Sr would be proud!
OUTSTANDING rendition of surely one of the very greatest songs in the entire history of existence. THANK you Hank Sr, Bernadette, Elvis and the LORD.....
Woow!...I just heard an angel singing with her sweetest, gentleness, softest voice..."I'm so Lonesome, I could Cry"...Thanks for sharing with us your awesome voice...💞💯🥰
What a marvellous performance, this is vocalising at its most magical. Sadly we live in an era where belting and hollering and shouting is seen as great vocal performing, but a pro like Peters proves that it's all in the gentlest nuances, the character of the voice, the whimsicality, vulnerability, and sheer beauty of her pipes. This is an absolutely haunting rendition.
And I left Liza Minnelli's attempt to sing "Some People" after twenty brutal seconds, to look for Peters singing it. Sigh of relief. Would it be blasphemy to suggest that the best version of Dolly Parton's "I will always love you" is, and always will be, Dolly Parton's?
She is the only person I ever saw make Bob Hope speechless. She stole the show. It was one of his USO SHOWS. She was hilarious and poor Bob didn't see it coming. She is one of the most well rounded entertainers in History.
Alone since '09, been hearing this in my head as of late and stumbled on this. Things happen for a reason unknown to us why but there it is...Thank You for Being, Bernadette...just in time, right on time
Wow, what a beautiful voice and a beautiful woman. Always had a crush on her. You just want to hug her and just hold her for the longest time. Thank You Bernadette, you sing like a angel.
As a devoted Bernadette fan for DECADES,,, seeing everything multiple times....Her class ans an entertainer and talent are unsurpassed... BRAVO Ms. Peters... You are a brilliant gift to us all.🥰
This lady is soooo BEAUTIFUL and TALENTED. I LOVE Bernadette Peters. I have her Gee Whiz single record. I also love and enjoy her rendition of the beautiful classic song: Tonight You Belong To Me.❤️❤️
BEAUTIFUL BERNADETTE 🥰❤️❤️🥰 I just LOVE HER!! My beautiful 25 yr. old niece shares her birthday with this beautiful and talented lady : 2/28. God bless them both.
What a hauntingly beautiful rendition! You can feel the lyrics in your bones. At the end of the singing, it seems like she has to bring herself back from the song. One of the greatest live performances on TV and with just her magical voice and a piano! I love that she doesn't do all the acrobatic and overly dramatic singing or strictly stick to the original. Instead she just sings with pure emotions and feelings and with her beautiful vibratos in a simply wonderful arrangement. I also love that she gives credit to Mark on the piano. I'm a fan. Thank you for sharing.
I saw this live the night it aired and it is one of the pivotal moments in my music career,. I don't recall the year- late '80s? I never forgot this performance and how it moved me.
I think she did a lot of nyc theater, musicals. Married a politician? And stayed in the city and locally famous. Had a career.anyway. Always wished she had the female lead in “Little Shop of Horrors.”
That's why I just watched this - I searched for this song and looked for a female singing it. I was curious. Why did I feel it was too slow? - However she sang it beautifully!
...and she gave respect/credit to her piano player because it took the two of them to make that song. That's modesty. It's always the artists with humility that really make the grade. I've played guitar and piano all of my life and I've been in a thousand situations where I was laying down the song so some singer could do a "karaoke" to my music. It has always amazed me how rarely the singer would share the credit for making that song. Rather, they most often take all the credit and ignore the musician that is making it all possible.
Thank you so much for uploading this absolute treasure of a performance. I think everyone in here has already said everything. She is absolutely incredible.
I had a huge crush on Bernadette. She was the total package. She could dance and sing. She was also very sexy and funny. I especially loved her voice. It has this sweet and innocent little girl sound to it, but yet she had a sweet of pipes on her, and could sing with the best of them. She was great when she appeared on shows like Carol Burnett, where all of these things were able to shine, as well as the films she was in.
Nice interpretation of this song. Kind of operatic and kind of stage. She's also great at comedy. I remember her in a short-live sitcom in the mid-70s called "All's Fair" with Richard Crenna. Have always enjoyed her work.
My Sister Patty is so sick. I need help. I came here to listen to music. Music from an old friend. I’m scared. Send your thoughts and prayers for sure but especially your best wishes for a speedy recovery. I know I’m asking too much but there it is. Do your best like Bernadette. XO 😘
Absolute pure voice! Most people can't pull that off, with very little accompaniment. Accompaniment helped keep the song simple and pure..to spotlight her voice.
I just heard this in the soundtrack of the Columbo episode "Rest in Peace" and just had to look it up. HAUNTING and very special to this man whose wife has died long ago.
Many years ago I had the great fortune and pleasure to meet and work with the talented, lovely, and beautiful Bernadette Petters. Complementary and giving. Never a nicer celebrity and person you could ever meet! She is truly one in a million... Love you Bernadette!
That was back when I played shortstop for the Mets 🙄
Someday, Bernadette will be recognized as a voice in American music history. Excuse me, not just a voice, but an example of excellence in American music history.
She already is.
Yeah I think that ship has sailed

SHE IS. A BEUTIFUL SOUL❤ AND BROADWAY
ACTRESS. 💥💥💥
Truly !
Look Ma, no autotune. This is absolutely magical. Thank you for posting.
Truly gifted singing voice not found much today...
@@vidiot9006 that's so not true, just because someone can't belt really high notes doesn't mean they aren't talented. Music trends and unique voices are constantly evolving which is what makes music so incredibly awesome

What a lovely sentiment.

It's the singer who makes a song country or not.
@@mrjasondylan so what genre is it really? the one she performs in
As would B. J.
Yes im sure Hank would have approved of Bernadette's rendition and loved to have a duet singing it with her!
@@avtobus1234I'd say soft rock or jazz.
OUTSTANDING rendition of surely one of the very greatest songs in the entire history of existence. THANK you Hank Sr, Bernadette, Elvis and the LORD.....

Riveting.
Haunting.
Magical.
Damn !!
Piano player was killing it, too, those guys don't get the appreciation they deserve.
Thanks!
Perfection: pianist and beautiful angel
Always fun making music with Bernadette...thanks Geo!
Awesome comping Mark!!!

POObumpoopo I thought of Beyonce when you said hollering..... She's all over the place. No where near the vocal control that you see here.
I've never heard it done by a woman before. She puts more feeling into it than any of the men I've heard sing it. It was absolutely beautiful.
She's good but too slow.
Elvis does it best.
True Broadway talent brings such depth to their performance. This is incredible!
BEAUTIFUL ! A beautiful rendition of a beautiful song by a beautiful woman !
I do believe that made it all the way to heaven! Hank Williams has to be smiling! Beautiful rendition!!! ❤
Lady with class. And a very beautiful personality. Who wouldn't want to meet her...
She is the only person I ever saw make Bob Hope speechless. She stole the show. It was one of his USO SHOWS. She was hilarious and poor Bob didn't see it coming. She is one of the most well rounded entertainers in History.
Bernadette’s singing voice is only matched by her lovely speaking voice.
I adore both so much!
❤️
Same!
Pure class! Awesome performance!

I've been alone since '05, and am begging to feel the meaning of this song. Peters sings it beautifully.
Wow, what a beautiful voice and a beautiful woman. Always had a crush on her. You just want to hug her and just hold her for the longest time. Thank You Bernadette, you sing like a angel.
I always loved this girl. I haven’t seen her in ages. This is a treat.
I was just wondering where she's been and why I haven't seen or heard of her in ages!
One of the most beautiful versions ever of the song by the lovely Bernadette.
As a devoted Bernadette fan for DECADES,,, seeing everything multiple times....Her class ans an entertainer and talent are unsurpassed... BRAVO Ms. Peters... You are a brilliant gift to us all.🥰
Exceptional arrangement! God she is phenomenal !
😭😭😭 It is impossible to listen to this and not think of everyone in the world you miss.

WOW !! What beautiful legato line ... each line / phrase sung on one breath ... superb vocal control ...
Got to admit, loved Hank Williams, but she is an angel. Just a different interpretation is all. Awesome. Lovely girl.
It was beautiful. Hank would have been so proud of Bernadette!! That red head sings like an angel 🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍
Angel yes. Girl no.
Always loved this song. I've always loved Bernadette Peters in movies. Lovely lady. Not aware she was a singer until now. Angelic voice.
Her voice and singing that song had me in tears of joy.

Hello Connie, how are you doing?
Absolutely Drew! She brings me so many tears of pure joy! PERFECTION!
RIght on, Johnny. She is simply marvelous. I would never have thought of this Hank Williams classic as a torch ballad, but it was beautiful.
What a hauntingly beautiful rendition! You can feel the lyrics in your bones. At the end of the singing, it seems like she has to bring herself back from the song.
