This is perhaps the most honest and genuine video about morning pages that I’ve seen so far. Not a fancy recording with music or choreography . He just turned the camera on and spoke honestly about his morning pages experience in a way none of the other TH-camrs have done so far. Thank you for this.
I’ve seen this before, people experiencing the exact same phenomenon, and apparently this how you’re supposed to journal. Your brain should go faster than your hand, so the result is unreadable, but you’re not supposed to read it afterwards either. (I know in this book she asks you to read it again later, haha good luck😅) but the mechanics of this process are exactly like you described, you basically unload. And don’t ingest it back again. People who came to that realisation said journaling freed them from so much!
Yes, these kinds of sessions are really powerful, but also rare (for me). And yes, I don't re-read what I write in morning pages, even though most of it isn't intense scribbling like the one in the video - it's helpful to unload on paper and then not revisit it.
i guess, but actual psychologists and studies show that rereading is a good step in understanding and healing. so it just depends on what you are writing for. see dr. k's tips for journaling.
Perfect topic. After 23 years of sobriety, Im reworking the 11 steps with my sponsor and experiencing many aha moment, most in synchronicity with you videos. You’re doing a great job and I can tell you’re enjoying it. Thanks for the time it takes to do the post Daniel.
Daniel, congratulations on the inner strength needed to stay sober for 23 years. I'm happy my videos are syncing up with where you are right now! -Dominick
I could never get into morning pages until I started writing them *exactly like that*! Now *ALL* my morning pages look like that and I dont think I can ever go back to the neat and proper way of writing unless it's something really intentional and has a purpose for being read over again.
Wow, that's really great! I only have one of those intense experiences every few weeks, but they're amazing. Even when it's just a normal writing session, though, I've found they're incredibly helpful.
Thanks. I'm starting a class today. Brand new to this. Been an artist and writer all my life. Blocked in the areas of beauty and joy. Will create so much better wiyh all the pain around those cleared out. Wish me luck. I will share this video with my classmates.
Ive just started morning pages, written first thing in the morning. My pages are small, 4x5 inches. I wanted to see if I could get into the habit and let go of my thinking mind. Im about 15 days in. Ive not read any of them. I write without my glasses so i cant even see clearly. Part of me says waste of time but im writing them anyway. I need to give this a try. I notice i ask a few questions along the way. Im interested in anyone genuinely following this workbook
That's so great that you started, and I highly recommend continuing even if you don't see "progress" or "results" soon. I started about 3 months ago or so and have done them every morning. It's rare that I have a really powerful experience as I described in the video, but I still get a lot out of the writing experience every single morning. It's great that you've started easy just to build the habit - that's the most important thing. Over time you can increase the amount you writing (the size of the pages) as you feel the need. Keep it up!
Hi, there! Just have to say that I like your videos a lot. They are so honest and clear among all this TH-cam garbage where everybody wants to sell something for their own benefits. I‘m not a writer but I like to write and I‘m writing Morning Pages since August and it opened a lot of views into my inner self that are sometimes sad but often wondrous and surprising. I also liked your black&white fotos, I will try that too. I wish you all the best!
Thank you so much!! And I'm so glad you're getting a lot out of Morning Pages! Regarding the black and white photos, it really is amazing how much it helps to see things we wouldn't ordinarily notice in color.
This morning was my 20th day of morning pages. And today i insisted to myself in the writing that thinking is not allowed. it must be like digging up the dirt to find the gemstones. It's a dirty job. It's not essay writing. Thanks for the early-hours 'confessions'.
I’ve just started this week. 3 days in. I do t know what I’m supposed to write or exactly how much but I’ve found it easy whatever it is I’m doing. I’m only using 3 pages of a small pocket (field notes) note book but that’s ok as it doesn’t feel daunting or intimidating. Mostly I’m just writing what I’m thinking about what’s going on right now. Nothing too deep, but how I feel about my TH-cam , my fitness and about my finances this week as my car is about to cost me a chunk. I think this is the right thing to do. Like your experience, I’m hoping after a month or so I’m getting something out of it or can feel that something has changed. Great video - curious - if you’re not going to read them, are you going to keep them??
Congrats on getting started! And yes, starting easy is much better than trying for too much too early. I've kept them in a folder, but at some point I'll likely just toss them because I think there's no point in revisiting them, in the same way one generally doesn't keep scrap paper used for solving a hard math problem - you just keep a copy of the solution. Good luck!
Hello! Sorry, didn't catch your name in previous videos. Watching this piece feels like discovering smth true about you. But what exactly - I don't understand. Maybe it's like your feelings after the 7th page, when you were stunned and maybe you still don't understand what was going on. But nevertheless I saw that this experience was a huge revelation for you about the deep pit of your mind. I think it's not critical to understand all of yourself right away, it'll come later. Yep, I need to resume my morning pages too.
Hey Yury, it's Dominick. Yeah, it just felt like for the first time I really broke through some of the blockage in my unconscious. What a great experience morning pages has been, I hope you start back soon!

This motivates me to keep going... Just started morning pages. Thank you.
That's great! I've found these experiences are pretty rare, but they really help when they happen. Good luck!

I am taking myself on my first “artist date” today! Wish me luck
Good luck, have fun!

You're welcome!
I am loving morning pages
Yeah, they're amazing.
:). 12 steps. My sponsor actually shared his favorite passage from the artist way with me yesterday.
That's really been a helpful book. I've got another related video on that coming up next.

Thanks!
Great story, buddy.
Thanks!
Love your perspectives on morning writing. Thanks for sharing. Off topic: why is the door to your laundry “room” always open? ;-)
Thanks! I figured it was a more interesting backdrop than a closed door...
I just started , I’m on week 3
Good luck!
