      I didn't know that about Dexter Holland. I always liked The Offspring back before Americana. That album had maybe 1 or 3 songs that were good but I just wasn't a fan. Not even sure what came after that. But nothing will ever compare to Smash and Ignition. Ixnay had some good ones too, but I found was slightly less memorable, as was their self titled album. And I'm especially surprised about Dolph Lundgren since he was always portrayed as a more jockish type character. You know, muscular, athletic, basically the stereotypical opposite of who you'd expect to have a Masters degree.

    25:30 Some blind people can still "see" or respond to visual stimuli because their eyes still work and send signals to the brain, but it gets interrupted along the way to the part that processes vision. Not that Stevie had this, but some people who can't see can still walk through a crowded room or react to a bright light.

    I have known more than one blind person and to someone who can see initially it is weird how someone with no sight can know who has just entered a room with them. However this is because the whole thing of other senses being heightened instead is true. It is usually sound that gives you away as to who has entered a room most people have a sound fairly unique to themselves in their family simply because of height and weight differences. Knowing how huge Shaq is he can probably be heard miles away.
    As for catching a item falling next to you, even sighted people do that without looking. We have way more than 5 senses.

    • @rodepet
      @rodepet 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      It's not so much your senses being heightened as your focused on them. I am not blind but could tell who was coming home by the keys in the door and how they closed the door. Could also tell when my dad was home by the sound of the car even if he just drove past to find a parking spot at the end of the street. If the stairs made a sounds I could tell from they way they walked up.

      I can see and I can often recognize people by their sound, it only works with people I know moderately well and I can't always tell my brothers apart by their sound(they are both roughly the same height and weight, and move in a moderately similar fashion)

      Legally blind person weighing in here, although I have some what they call residual vision, it's a good point. I like listening to some sports, I've been known to catch things when they fall because I hear them, I used to have a friend who I always could smell when he came in a room because his mother used a ton of a particular type of fabric softener, and there's nothing more guaranteed to piss me off than accusing me of faking or exaggerating my vision problem. Oh yes, I've put myself through a lifetime of inconvenience and true difficulty just to troll my friends and acquaintances. Herpa Derp!

      My kids and I back in the kids wrestling days, used to know a blind wrestler who had to be led by the hand out to the center of the mat. Stone blind. But when the whistle blew he could always grab his opponent like a cat. He was undefeated. Amazing wrestler. He said he could hear people moving by the sound of the deafening screaming parents and kids as it waxed and waned.

    • @AmericanBaker
      @AmericanBaker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I was just going to say something similar. Residual vision is a thing. Not all blind people see nothing. And a lot of people enjoy experiences that some people watch by using other senses. I love putting on movies and just listening to them without watching them at all.

    This summer I had to convince a child that Michael Jackson wasn't coming from America to Iceland to kill her and when she asked how I knew I told her he has been dead for a long time. It took some convincing but she eventually calmed down.
    She then got really interested in his life and asked me about his life story and I was like "how the fuck do I make this appropriate for a child and don't accidentally teach her stuff she is not old enough to know and me a stranger am not gonna explain?" I somehow managed to tell her kinda what his life was like but then told that he ended up being a bad person despite how good his music was. It was difficult.
    Though my favourite was when she asked me what he looked like and saw the difference, she went to her dad and said "look dad, he used to look good but then he was ugly!" In a very exited way. Kids are brutally honest XD
    But yeah she had a genuine fear of him coming to murder her after her cousin showed her Thriller.

    Sharon told a similar story in an interview once but she said they were at an outside event (I think a wedding) with some posh people (I don't remember who) and Ozzy walked over and sat down on the woman's lap. They had just released dozen of doves at the event. After Ozzy sat down a dove landed on his knee and without skipping a beat Ozzy reached over, grabbed it and bit it's head off. Ozzy said that he was so high that he doesn't remember doing it. I wonder which version is true. Or if this event lead to the other. . . In the land of Ozzy, it would make sense.

Thats where the bat happened? How are your bats these days?". And that was prob in the last 5 years. My point being, the "bat incident" was and is one of the huge focal points when it comes to Ozzy. And he has used it for decades.

    Simon, before the late seventies lots of white people didn’t buy music of black artists. Jimmie Hendrix was the only accepted black artist you would find in the music collection of white music lovers with higher education and/or money in that days. Just look at Woodstock*.
    (Also in the original musical Hair the Supremes were ridiculed).
    Don’t know if it was racism, but MTV had no black music in the beginning. Jackson wanted his video of Billie Jean played on MYV. MTV just refused to play the video. Only when the boss of Michael’s label threatened to forbid to play the videos of all the other artists under his label on MTV, they broadcasted the video. So Billie Jean became was the first video a of black artist that was really rolled out on MTV.
    And so, finally, the whites discovered black music.
    *of the 32 bands and artists only 3 were black: Richie Havens, Jimmy Hendrix and Sly & the family Stone.

    I reckon I know what that video of Stevie catching the mic after McCartney hits it while passing in front of Stevie is about.. they have wireless monitors in their ears. And any impact on a mic head when it's turned on gives a distinctive "thud" through the system. Coupled with the fact that Stevie knew McCartney was in front of him, moving about, in the moment, I believe he heard the "thud" through his earpiece, and just instinctively knew what had happened, ie McCartney had hit against his mic, and being a legend he reflexively stuck a hand out to grab the mic he knew was falling over in front of him

    I literally know 2 people with vitiligo, it generally manifests itself early in life (1 of the aforementioned around age 8 and the other age 12) not well into a persons 20's. Both people I know with the condition have random patches of light skin which is more white person pink than undead vampire white, Michael Jackson may have had the condition but it would've been less noticeable if he wasn't bleaching himself undead white all over tbh.

      I believe for Michael Jackson, it was revealed that since he was young he used his original skin color makeup to cover up the white splotches until it was too much to cover, then he started whitening the darker skin. Most of the people I know who have milder vitiligo do the same thing, most of them are lucky to have been lighter skinned though so it’s not a huge issue for them to cover it up. Not everyone is comfortable with their skin and the looks it’ll get them.
      Edit: I made it sound like I know a lot of people with vitiligo, but I’ve met 3. One guy does have the really pale MJ color, the other 2 have it super mild. One just had his eyelashes turn white and has a lighter skin patch over his eye. Everyone always assumes it’s a burn until they notice the lashes.
