I think it's a bit unfair to say Splatoon 2 added sloshers and splatlings. Sure, they weren't in Splatoon 1 until an update, but they were still first introduced in Splatoon 1.

I'm actually glad there is no voice chat in the Splatoon games, I already want to strangle most of the teammates whenever I end up carrying an awful team or we are so chaotic to do anything right, the last thing I'd want would be listening to any of them... "Booyah!" and "C'mon!" are more than enough thank you... not every online multiplayer game has to act like a CoD knock-off.
I'm glad voice chat is not a big feature in this game. I like the isolation within the group dynamic it allows you to do your own thing as well as work as a team without people trying to take control.
Voice chats wasn't added Because of how toxic voice chat are. There would be lots of screaming. Also swearing would be a problem since it's a game made for kids.
Me fortnite wasn’t made for just kids lol, it was supposed to be made for all ages (more specifically older teenagers) so when it first came out epic didn’t think that there would be any issue with it while with splatoon, it’s made by Nintendo and Nintendo has a thing where they try to be friendly to all ages

I agree, I used to play overwatch and the amount of screaming, swearing, and insults just wouldn't be good for Splatoon. Even if they did add voice chat they would need a report system, and we all know those don't even work 99% of the time.
I would agreed especially in competitive in overwatch people are toxic and just rage a lot and since Nintendo is mostly supposed to be a family friendly game so that kinda explains why they don't add mic.

I didn't know that Salmon Run mode could be played alone..this is how I prefer to play my multiplayer games.I wish thy added in AI bots that I could put in as team mates.
The only two things I’m disappointed with in Splatoon2 are the that the Splatoon specials aren’t in the second game, I really miss the inkstrike and killer wail. Same with the First game’s maps. My friend and I always *LOVED* Flounder heights, then when we both got the game, we were so sad because our favorite map(s) weren’t in the game. I hope they add the Splatoon specials and maps.

Though the colors in splatoon aren’t as shiny, it still wins my heart over. You also should have included the updates that were in splatoon after launch. Also the splatoon 1 story mode is better in my opinion because it has a plot. It may have had some “dull” backgrounds but it was harder and more of a challenge. You gave splatoon 1 so much of a disadvantage.

Splatoon 2 is of curse better because it's new and stuff. Splatoon 1 already had sloshers and Splatlings. Splatoon 2 had dualies and those parachutes. The Splatoon 1 Single Player was better than the Splatoon 2 one, I mean have you compared the Bosses? The Final Boss is a Million times better in Splatoon 1. Splatoon 2 Octo exspansion is great however. The Amiibo also were better in Splatoon 1. Voice Chat is a horrible idea in a Kids game. You can kinda select stuff while in Lobby. You are correct Buttered Funnybiscuit, but what I meant was that the core gameplay and mechanics weren't any different, there was just much more content. So why compare the two instead of just making a video reviewing and highlighting what's new? The new game is obviously better since there wasn't a significant enough time-gap to say that "the first was better for its time and there's so much new content, the new game is more like a giant update.

Have you looked at the Fortnite weapons? If you compare them side by side to the Splatoon ones, they're literally the same. Just look at Splatoon's roller and the Fortnite version. And the Burst Bomb and another bomb from Fortnite. Fortnite is literally a copy and paste of Splatoon, that is overrated and less cartoonish.

I honestly believe that Splatoon 1 is better, at least at this point. The Splatoon 2 maps are frankly just not that interesting to me. They are all very horizontal and wide. Compare that to maps like Camp Triggerfish, Saltspray Rig, Pirahna Pit etc etc etc. All of these maps have verticality and interesting layouts. I'm not saying i don't like Splatoon 2 , i'm just kinda disappointed in the maps. The music too is just not as good. I loved the victory music from the first game. Splatoon 2 music is just all bass and isn't as punchy. Its like they just removed some sound channels from tracks from the first game and remixed them. I hope they fill this game out with better music and stages.
Yeah, at least they brought back Moray Towers which I think was the best Splatoon 1 map. Hopefully they'll add in some more innovative and vertical stuff.
My idea/opinion why Switch does voice chat through an iPhone app....building voice chat into the Switch OS would have required a much heavier OS that would require more of the system memory dedicated entirely to the OS. Well compared to Xbow/PS4 having 8 gb of RAM, the Switch is fairly memory constrained in comparison. Therefore I’m thinking that Nintendo just didn’t want to waste ANY of the system memory on the Switch OS, therefore made the OS as lightweight and optimized as possible. On Xbox, much of the RAM gets dedicated to the OS (for features like voice chat, friends list, etc). Switch doesn’t have that luxury, being a mobile device with much less memory. So in the end, I think Nintendo is doing the right thing by prioritizing the games with system memory, and actually came up with a decent trade off making the Switch Online app. Not only does it make the Switch OS blazing fast and lightweight, it also enables them to try new things within the iPhone app that they would not have otherwise done.

I feel like the feel of splatoon 1 is better. When you play a match in splatoon it feels so much more unique to splatoon 2 as splatoon 2 uses instruments more than splatoon 1. It feels more wierd and and has more underwater apocalyptic vibes than splatoon 2 and splatoon 1's story mode is way better the final boss is epic and they cut some enemies from splatoon 1 aswell in splatoon 2 😓 I agree with most the points in the video though
@@Bluemansonic if you play a match and that match ends and your team either wins or loses, there is a option on the top next to "play again" were you can change your gear (guns, clothes).
Thanks for making the video! For me it goes to show, that Splatoon has improved so much, it's like seeing a child growing up :) I would just like to mention sth: As this was made out to be a batle, the criteria set are fine and all, but maybe not for a comparison of a game and its follow-up, since the follow-up will have more time and data to improve on all the criteria mentioned. Splatoon was set at a disadvantage from the get-go. The two have different jobs, 1 to establish itself with great gameplay and 2 to improve on the first and bring an even more enhanced xperience. And with that in mind, both are crazily good at their jobs, still fun, still iconic.

Does anyone realize if they let you change weapons in the lobby, no one is going to leave right? Theres going to be no way to get in if everyone gets to change their weapon. It would be unlikely to join your friends when no one is going to leave.
I think everyone forgets that Metroid Prime Hunters (for the original DS) had online functionality. Technically making it Nintendo's first foray into the online shooter... but just throwing it out there.
so i was thinking about the voice chat thing and the reason is the functionality would need to work in both hand held and docked. This seems feasible if the mic was included in handheld, but in docked this would seem impracticable. The default controllers dont have audio input.
In Splatoon 1, you had more than shooters, chargers and rollers. You had blasters, brushes, splatlings, and sloshers came out later in the game’s development.

Alexander Nguyen That would cause lots of problems in the game and internet functions, which in turn will make the wait longer. Say that in Splatoon 1, you had the option to leave. It's down to 30 seconds, and then one person leaves out of the 2 of you. Then, the timer restarts, and this pattern continues. And the same could happen in Splatoon 2, except for the fact that the timer doesn't repeat itself, so you'd have to repeatedly go into the lobby just to play.
Why not just review Splatoon 2 rather than making unneeded comparisions to the first one? We already know Splatoon 2 is just the first game but with extra content and a new story
You know, I'll never understand the whole "voice chat through a phone" thing, but now that I think about it, maybe the reason they did it is because if you had the chord coming out of the Switch while it's docked, it could slip out of the dock and fall?
There was no good reason for the switch to not have a built-in mic. Also, it has bluetooth so why can't it sync with a headset? The only thing I can think of is that it was an oversight and it was too late to fix when it was noticed. I mean it was a rushed release.
Considering both Sony and Microsoft have implemented and defined voice chat options for over a decade now, it really says something about how Nintendo is choosing to go a different way from its competitors by using a phone app to communicate with friends and/or other players in Splatoon 2. Seriously, isn't it technically easier and more efficient to have a pair of headphones plug into a console's controller, instead of using a phone app which cannot balance the game audio and voice chat without the need for an audio splitter device?
There were sloshers and splatlings in the first game. They just weren't added until August 4th. The new weapon types were dualies and brellas. Also there was ranked mode in the first game-it just wasn't added until June 1st.
I think you should also include a section for extras. Things that are either promised for the future after the game's launch, or come with things you need to purchase besides the game. For instance, the amiibos and the promised updates would fall into those areas, and the details and benefits each provided, as well as dlc that might be available from launch, even if it is in season pass form like Breath of the Wild had, since those things could be counted as "available from day 1".
I'm here to tell you that a few issues have been fixed since splatoon 2 realesed 'cause i watched this in May of 2018. First off, nintendo updated the game to where you can now change your gear and weapons after a match ends, and then you can re-enter the lobby after you finished. Second, more maps, weapons, and gear have been added. Third, a DLC called the Octo-Expansion is coming out in the end of June or July, and that DLC is going to add 80 missions to the game, which further improves the single-player content of Splatoon 2. Fourth, a new game mode called Clam Blitz has been added, with another one called Rocket coming soon. Aaaand that's about it for now.
In my Opinion, What i saw by gameplay and what my friends told me when they played, its worse than 1: Weapons:bad, Special attacks:Bad, Long walks to the battle, etc. But in my opinion: Splatoon 1 is and will always be my number one
Tip of the hat to your crediting Gears of War to 'Horde' (by just referring to Salmon run as Horde). They didn't necessarily come up with the gametype, but they certainly made it what it is today
Well I mean of course Splatoon 2 is gonna be better than Splatoon 1. It's on a better console, it obviously has what the first game has and more because it's a squeal and it's just common sense, and they wanted to make Splatoon 2 way more successful than Splatoon 1 because Splatoon 1 was a powerhouse of a game compared to other games on the Wii U so think about what they could achieve with the squeal. Splatoon 2 was the obvious superior game.
Gameplay was better on Wii U, it incorporated the map on the gamepad, allowing quick jump by tapping icons. Splatoon 2 absolutely SUCKS ASS in terms of gameplay, you can't jump without hitting multiple buttons!
Jack Son I will definitely miss the Wii U GamePad and the features it provided for Splatoon. At least with Splatoon 2, you have extra controller options to choose from and the gyroscopic controls are still implemented (the latter was a feature I was seriously worried would be cut out of the sequel).
There are two more game modes for splatoon 2. League battle and salmon run. League battle is a little more of a competition than ranked. Salmon run allows you to get super bonuses and and in the super bonus you get food tickets and ability tickets. For me splatoon 2 is better.
The Local Multiplayer may have been improved in the second game, but do you really expect every single one of your friends to own a Switch, let alone, a copy of Splatoon 2? Also... "Game Mo-Modes"
Yeah, I hate the fact that Nintendo did that! If you have separate controllers, you could still play local, but nooooooooo, you have to own a copy of the game AND the Switch.
According to the splatoon wiki There are seven types of Main Weapons in Splatoon: The Shooter, the Blaster, the Charger, the Roller, the Brush, the Slosher, and the Splatling.
I don't own Splatoon on Wii U but I've played it and there are blasters (although I think it's only the Luna blaster) there were splatlings. ( Also could've been just the Hydra splatling.) It had sloshers, more shooters than Splattershots. There were aerosprays, N-Zaps. So there were more weapons than Splattershots, rollers, and chargers.
Hmm, pretty mixy way to compare games given that gameplay naturally falls in line with single player, multiplayer and content. Still, I find some of the points a little hit or miss. Handheld playability is convenient, but that's a plus of the console, not the game. The game reuses two stages from Splatoon 1 on its initial launch, and I'd argue that giving you a choice of weapons in Splatoon 2 is kind of misleading given you must beat the level with the necessary weapon first, and that some levels were not designed with certain weapons in mind. Plus the weapons you get from the single player are not better. Also I feel the minigames you could play deserved a mention. Squid Jump was nice for while you were waiting and Squid Beatz 2 not being available in the lobby is a shame.

So why compare the two instead of just making a video reviewing and highlighting what's new? The new game is obviously better since there wasn't a significant enough time-gap to say that "the first was better for its time and there's so much new content, the new game is more like a giant update.

Have you looked at the Fortnite weapons? If you compare them side by side to the Splatoon ones, they're literally the same. Just look at Splatoon's roller and the Fortnite version. And the Burst Bomb and another bomb from Fortnite. Fortnite is literally a copy and paste of Splatoon, that is overrated and less cartoonish.

I honestly believe that Splatoon 1 is better, at least at this point. The Splatoon 2 maps are frankly just not that interesting to me. They are all very horizontal and wide. Compare that to maps like Camp Triggerfish, Saltspray Rig, Pirahna Pit etc etc etc. All of these maps have verticality and interesting layouts. I'm not saying i don't like Splatoon 2 , i'm just kinda disappointed in the maps. The music too is just not as good. I loved the victory music from the first game. Splatoon 2 music is just all bass and isn't as punchy. Its like they just removed some sound channels from tracks from the first game and remixed them. I hope they fill this game out with better music and stages.
Yeah, at least they brought back Moray Towers which I think was the best Splatoon 1 map. Hopefully they'll add in some more innovative and vertical stuff.

My idea/opinion why Switch does voice chat through an iPhone app....building voice chat into the Switch OS would have required a much heavier OS that would require more of the system memory dedicated entirely to the OS. Well compared to Xbow/PS4 having 8 gb of RAM, the Switch is fairly memory constrained in comparison. Therefore I’m thinking that Nintendo just didn’t want to waste ANY of the system memory on the Switch OS, therefore made the OS as lightweight and optimized as possible. On Xbox, much of the RAM gets dedicated to the OS (for features like voice chat, friends list, etc). Switch doesn’t have that luxury, being a mobile device with much less memory. So in the end, I think Nintendo is doing the right thing by prioritizing the games with system memory, and actually came up with a decent trade off making the Switch Online app. Not only does it make the Switch OS blazing fast and lightweight, it also enables them to try new things within the iPhone app that they would not have otherwise done.

I feel like the feel of splatoon 1 is better. When you play a match in splatoon it feels so much more unique to splatoon 2 as splatoon 2 uses instruments more than splatoon 1. It feels more wierd and and has more underwater apocalyptic vibes than splatoon 2 and splatoon 1's story mode is way better the final boss is epic and they cut some enemies from splatoon 1 aswell in splatoon 2 😓

As this was made out to be a batle, the criteria set are fine and all, but maybe not for a comparison of a game and its follow-up, since the follow-up will have more time and data to improve on all the criteria mentioned. Splatoon was set at a disadvantage from the get-go.
The two have different jobs, 1 to establish itself with great gameplay and 2 to improve on the first and bring an even more enhanced xperience.
And with that in mind, both are crazily good at their jobs, still fun, still iconic.

The weapon class is called “dualies” not “dapple dualies”. The latter is a weapon in that class.

Does anyone realize if they let you change weapons in the lobby, no one is going to leave right? Theres going to be no way to get in if everyone gets to change their weapon. It would be unlikely to join your friends when no one is going to leave.

I think everyone forgets that Metroid Prime Hunters (for the original DS) had online functionality. Technically making it Nintendo's first foray into the online shooter... but just throwing it out there.
so i was thinking about the voice chat thing and the reason is the functionality would need to work in both hand held and docked. This seems feasible if the mic was included in handheld, but in docked this would seem impracticable. The default controllers dont have audio input.
In Splatoon 1, you had more than shooters, chargers and rollers. You had blasters, brushes, splatlings, and sloshers came out later in the game’s development.

What both Splatoon 1 and 2 need is the option to exit in the lobby, it's either play the game or wait 150 seconds.

That would cause lots of problems in the game and internet functions, which in turn will make the wait longer. Say that in Splatoon 1, you had the option to leave. It's down to 30 seconds, and then one person leaves out of the 2 of you. Then, the timer restarts, and this pattern continues. And the same could happen in Splatoon 2, except for the fact that the timer doesn't repeat itself, so you'd have to repeatedly go into the lobby just to play.
Why not just review Splatoon 2 rather than making unneeded comparisions to the first one? We already know Splatoon 2 is just the first game but with extra content and a new story

You know, I'll never understand the whole "voice chat through a phone" thing, but now that I think about it, maybe the reason they did it is because if you had the chord coming out of the Switch while it's docked, it could slip out of the dock and fall?
There was no good reason for the switch to not have a built-in mic. Also, it has bluetooth so why can't it sync with a headset?
The only thing I can think of is that it was an oversight and it was too late to fix when it was noticed. I mean it was a rushed release.
Considering both Sony and Microsoft have implemented and defined voice chat options for over a decade now, it really says something about how Nintendo is choosing to go a different way from its competitors by using a phone app to communicate with friends and/or other players in Splatoon 2. Seriously, isn't it technically easier and more efficient to have a pair of headphones plug into a console's controller, instead of using a phone app which cannot balance the game audio and voice chat without the need for an audio splitter device?

There were sloshers and splatlings in the first game. They just weren't added until August 4th. The new weapon types were dualies and brellas. Also there was ranked mode in the first game-it just wasn't added until June 1st.

I think you should also include a section for extras. Things that are either promised for the future after the game's launch, or come with things you need to purchase besides the game. For instance, the amiibos and the promised updates would fall into those areas, and the details and benefits each provided, as well as dlc that might be available from launch, even if it is in season pass form like Breath of the Wild had, since those things could be counted as "available from day 1".

I'm here to tell you that a few issues have been fixed since splatoon 2 realesed 'cause i watched this in May of 2018. First off, nintendo updated the game to where you can now change your gear and weapons after a match ends, and then you can re-enter the lobby after you finished. Second, more maps, weapons, and gear have been added. Third, a DLC called the Octo-Expansion is coming out in the end of June or July, and that DLC is going to add 80 missions to the game, which further improves the single-player content of Splatoon 2. Fourth, a new game mode called Clam Blitz has been added, with another one called Rocket coming soon. Aaaand that's about it for now.
Splatoon 1 is way better Nintendo just copied splatoon 1 and made improvements for each of these things

Tip of the hat to your crediting Gears of War to 'Horde' (by just referring to Salmon run as Horde). They didn't necessarily come up with the gametype, but they certainly made it what it is today

Well I mean of course Splatoon 2 is gonna be better than Splatoon 1. It's on a better console, it obviously has what the first game has and more because it's a squeal and it's just common sense, and they wanted to make Splatoon 2 way more successful than Splatoon 1 because Splatoon 1 was a powerhouse of a game compared to other games on the Wii U so think about what they could achieve with the squeal. Splatoon 2 was the obvious superior game.
I have to be honest, comparing the day one edition of Splatoon 1 to Splatoon 2 is not really fair. You should of compared them to how they are now!
Gameplay was better on Wii U, it incorporated the map on the gamepad, allowing quick jump by tapping icons. Splatoon 2 absolutely SUCKS ASS in terms of gameplay, you can't jump without hitting multiple buttons!
Jack Son I will definitely miss the Wii U GamePad and the features it provided for Splatoon. At least with Splatoon 2, you have extra controller options to choose from and the gyroscopic controls are still implemented (the latter was a feature I was seriously worried would be cut out of the sequel).

There are two more game modes for splatoon 2. League battle and salmon run. League battle is a little more of a competition than ranked.
Salmon run allows you to get super bonuses and and in the super bonus you get food tickets and ability tickets. For me splatoon 2 is better.

According to the splatoon wiki There are seven types of Main Weapons in Splatoon:
The Shooter, the Blaster, the Charger, the Roller, the Brush, the Slosher, and the Splatling.
Actually bucket classes and Mini Splatling classes were in 1 and you forgot about the blaster class for both.

I don't own Splatoon on Wii U but I've played it and there are blasters (although I think it's only the Luna blaster) there were splatlings. ( Also could've been just the Hydra splatling.) It had sloshers, more shooters than Splattershots. There were aerosprays, N-Zaps. So there were more weapons than Splattershots, rollers, and chargers.

Hmm, pretty mixy way to compare games given that gameplay naturally falls in line with single player, multiplayer and content. Still, I find some of the points a little hit or miss. Handheld playability is convenient, but that's a plus of the console, not the game. The game reuses two stages from Splatoon 1 on its initial launch, and I'd argue that giving you a choice of weapons in Splatoon 2 is kind of misleading given you must beat the level with the necessary weapon first, and that some levels were not designed with certain weapons in mind. Plus the weapons you get from the single player are not better. Also I feel the minigames you could play deserved a mention. Squid Jump was nice for while you were waiting and Squid Beatz 2 not being available in the lobby is a shame.
