Quackers was a much-loved pet Indian Runner Duck who lived at Mapperton in West Dorset, England.
Unfortunately a visitor to the historic house and gardens let her dog off the lead, and the dog attacked Quackers. The dog owner then retrieved the injured duck and wrung its neck before throwing the dead Quackers into the long grass.

The story of Quackers has touched hearts across the nation, following news articles in several national newspapers and the BBC.
We have therefore set up the Quackers Memorial Pond Fund to celebrate the life of our beloved Indian Runner duck.
The funds raised will be spent on the creation of a new pond which will attract wild ducks and other wetland species to Mapperton.
We will also plant trees, shrubs and aquatic plants in the pond, alongside a plaque to commemorate Quackers. In this way, we hope that her legacy will be the creation of a new wetland habitat which will provide a refuge for wild ducks and other wildlife for decades to come.
Please note that the more funds we raise, the larger the pond will be, and the greater the benefit will be for ducks and wetland wildlife.

Curated by Mapperton’s very own American Viscountess, Julie Montagu, the "American Heiress" collection is comprised of more than 10,000 previously unseen letters exchanged between Alberta (Sturges) Montagu and her family, as well as the peerage at large.

I truly am amazed at Julie’s enthusiasm and energy.
Julie, you and Luke are hilarious, and you are a determined hard working woman. I think Luke enjoys teasing you, which is funny. I cracked up when he said you fire him all the time. I like how you just dig into learning all the thing's going on at the estate. With confidence, you can learn to do anything. When i was growing up, i lacked confidence, until my grandpa enlisted me as his helper, and it was then that i realised that i could do anything if i put my mind to it, and some of us are blessed with the ability to figure out how to build or fix anything. I bought my home in 2011, which needed a lot of work, but i did most of the work myself, and now have no payment, plus I'm in the country with my own well and septic system. I struggle with progressive MS, which is causing muscle wasting on my entire left side. I bought a 1954 Jeep Willys m38a1 military jeep that was never titled, and was purchased at a governot auction in the 80's, by a man who passed away. This past April i bought it, from hid daughter who just wanted it gone, and didn't know what she had. I am disassembling it for a full restoration. I got a very good deal on this jeep, which still had all the rare 24 volt components that allow it to be driven through deep water. I am doing this at 53 to help keep my mobility, and i work through a lot of pain from other health issue's, but i don't want to end up in a wheelchair. As a woman, i feel as though people think we are weak, and unable to do these types of thing's. I think you inspire people with your determination, and passion for what you do.

I just loved that 'Theo 3 Spot' spotted Claire from the other end of the paddock and came running flat out to her, he obviously wasn't having any part of you, Luke, you just don't have that magic touch.

I think it will make everyone more aware of what needs doing at such a lovely chateau should you choose to do more of these videos. Hopefully it helps with the patronage as well. I'm sorry that I can currently not able to help but long for the day I can visit Mapperton.

Luke, get a plasma cutter, aka lightning scissors to cut up that metal tank, they are fairly cheap, but do require compressed air. Great for cutting metal. We have magic erasers here in the US, they clean scuff marks easily. Good luck with all event's.

Maybe there is a quicker way of collecting these rose paddles ? Maybe you could look around in a gardening center and look for a very fine-meshed rake so you don't have to bend down...❤
