Totally understand. Well... you may end up wanting headphones for gaming and also to edit videos/audio someday and when that time comes, you may end up like me: buying a gaming headset that ends up being overpriced plastic, then buying studio headphones that are boring but are okay for editing I guess. Neither end up being good for enjoyment of music. By the time you have wasted $75-100 multiple times on gaming headphones, then $150-250 on studio headphones, then who knows what on headphones you actually like... you are well over $350. I would just save for ONE headset that does it all.
I purchased these this week also, upgrading from Sennheiser Game ONE. I'm still testing/feeling them out, but initial reaction is that they sound pretty spot on, especially the spatial sound field and detail. I'm worried some of the low bass is taking away detail in mids when the mix gets cluttered....mostly during gaming when a lot is going on at once. I like my mids and highs for those details and I'm a little more use to hearing that from my Sennheiser's. And there is something in the vocal range on these that's not quite spot on for me. Very well could be my ears and loss of some hearing or something. I've not heard that from reviewers yet. Don't take that as a bad thing though, these are definitely an upgrade for me and I think I love them. I just think I want to EQ out a hair of the high bass and maybe add just a hair high mid.

Excellent review. I just ordered mine. I believe it performs so well because , one it is wired and two, they don't have any electronic technology in there to muddle the sound. The best headphones in the world for a particular reason.
Just bought myself a pair. This will be my first pair of gaming headphones that are over $50 and I’ve been gaming for well over 10 years. Probably more around 15 years. Decided to treat myself for getting my masters degree.
@@tobiasdontmatter1868 so I got an Astro mixamp for these. It was mostly for the audio tuning, and game and voice chat tuning. I mostly play on console and other than the fine adjustments for audio the amp allows me to do, I couldn’t notice much of an improvement in overall sound. They sound very good out of the box. It took a little to get used to the bass, but I’ve learned to really enjoy it. Keep in mind that I’m not an audiophile so take what I said with a grain of salt.

Just got these, and man, they are rad even through an Xbox controller. Also use them on my PS5 but I have a Soundblaster coming, since it's compatible with the PS5, so looking forward seeing what these things are truly capable of. Putting these against the sound of the Audeze Penrose X, and it's definitely different but these actually sound more pleasant, at loud volumes vs the Penrose. Well worth the price, for a multi-platform gamer and eager to pair them with that DAC/Amp.
Thanks for sharing your experience. They are truly amazing. They recently became my daily driver not only for gaming but also for recording and listening to music.
@@NicoKnowsTech really looking forward to seeing what these can do with that Soundblaster. What would you think a good all-around setting would be, for that DAC? I play a bit of Battlefield and Destiny 2, but still get in a lot of single player story stuff.
@@gigolocalypsetv5520 sure. In acoustic engine settings I crank up the bass to 20 and crystalizer to 15. This gives them a little more of a V shape EQ which makes them very lively and exciting in gaming without making them lose details in game. You will get a bit more "crispy" and detailed sound by increasing the bit rate in Windows sound settings because that DAC supports really high bitrates, but for accurate spatial audio, you should pair it with Dolby Atmos from the Microsoft Store. Dolby will lower the bitrate to 44khz but that is still a good bit rate.
@@gigolocalypsetv5520 You can also boost the volume of the mic with the SoundblasterX G6. Don't add any enhancements to the mic though. It sounds perfect like it is.

The upgrade audio cord is only for audiophiles who want to drive them with a balanced dac. It is totally optional and isn't even something currently recommended by the designers. It's totally an audiophile add on. My review is based on just the headphones with the DACs I suggest. The G6 DAC is a superb DAC for gaming on PS5 and PC and you can do fine with just the headphones and the G6. If you want to listen to music with them at an even higher level and maybe run on balanced which will make them a bit more shouty and spacious you can go up to the Zen DAC V2 with a PC and used the balanced cable... But this is totally optional. To start off, just get the SoundblasterX G6 because most users are happy with just that. The iFi Zen DAC V2 is a hifi DAC that adds Soundstage, analog bass boost, and balanced output which is totally an audiophile addition that can be added later should you choose. The G6 is a high end gaming DAC that is also great for music, movies, etc.
The add on ear pads are something I like because they stay cooler. VZR doesn't currently recommend them "officially" and they are only recommended by me currently as a mod. They keep them cooler but will make them slightly bass forward compared to the stock pads. Also the after market pads will not break in the same way as the stock pads. The VZR Model One sound will actually get more detailed and vibrant as the stock pads break in. This will not occur on the after market pads. I love the sound on both pads, but if you aren't sure... I would go with the stock pads and only change them out if you really want them with cooling gel and are okay with a slightly more bass forward sound.
@Nico Knows Tech Hi, Nico! When you used the VZR Model One on the PS5, did you plug it directly into the controller, and if so, how was the max volume level compared to the EPOS H6PRO? I'm curious, as to whether the max volume level was lower, the same or higher than the H6PRO. Any info you can share with me on this is greatly appreciated.
Hey Troy, the H6Pro was louder at low volumes but could be harsh at times. The VZR Model One was much better. If you wanna drive them really loud I would get a separate DAC.
I was about to order these until I saw the audeze maxwells. I've heard nothing but good things about the vzr but really wanted to experience those 90mm planar magnetic drivers.
The audeze will have descent resolution and sub bass slam. I think the mic quality, comfort and overall bass response of the VZR is better. Also, the VZR is the gold standard for spatial audio. The audeze would be better for audiophiles but the VZR are a but more accurate for all around use as well as mixing, gaming, etc.
