Hi Earl love this some and you do it perfectly 👍🥁 I’m working on it for my lesson tomorrow. Thanks for posting so many amazingly played song, you rock ❤️🙏❤️🥁🙏🥁🥰
Thanks Earl! Beautifully played. I am very grateful to be able to see this. We are going to see if we can play this; you have really helped me understand the delicate parts to this great song. I will be super pleased if I can play it close to how good you have it sounding. Thanks for posting this!
@@earldrum I'm putting together an outrageous kit atm, somewhat based on Danny Carey's layout. Remote hihat dead centre behind two rack toms, which are rotos, 10 and 12 on my version. I reckon rotos was what I searched when I found your channel. I'm a bass player but I had a holy vision come to me from the gods of rock n roll of how they wanted their kit. I'm a bee's dick away from completing this scrapyard beast. If I ever finish it, inshallah, I'll send you a vid.
@@bassedtaz I’d like to see that kit! I have a bunch of videos with RotoToms! Set up many different ways! This set up was inspired by Chicago drummer DANNY Seraphine! He used a strange concert tom / traditional kit on the early Chicago albums and tours. I was to lazy to change it after recording a few Chicago covers a few weeks back!
@@earldrum Yeah rotos are amazing, I think I watched all your roto vids. Actually I think I watched every roto vid on the entire internet. Mine currently have el cheapo "medium weight" single plys on em, I'm financially (and occasionally mentally) challenged, but they're new heads and they sound bloody gorgeous. So easy to tune, and so easy to tune to actual notes. Unfortunately I'm having the opposite experience trying to dial in a kick sound I like. Its a learning curve, and the batter head I have is an evans emad from ancient Egypt, with no emad ofc, so that's presumably the issue. I have no business being so utterly snobbish and fussy about drum tone, but I can't help it. As a bass player, I interact with the kick on a subconscious level, in real time, it simply has to be dialled in perfect. Again, your tunings and mixes always sound super slick bro. I'll keep you updated
@@bassedtaz thanks for the kind words! The kick has to be right, but there are easy things you can do to get it right in the mix, compression, gating, EQ, and muffling the drum!
As always, outstanding, really enjoy the nuances that you put in a particular song, it's kind of odd seeing you play Zildjians, but, the sound amazing, also, I would like to thank you for teaching me how to play mama can't buy you love, Elton John, I don't do as well as you, however, close enough for my taste, lol, cudos!!!!!!
Phil thanks for the kind words about both songs! I’m always happy when drummers take something away from my drumming! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻. I have a set of Zildjians and Sabians … but I love my Paiste Cymbals! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😊👍🏻😂
Hi Earl, I love this song and it brings back very good memories... sounds amazing and nice playing !!! 😎🙋🏻♂🥁 LIKE#9 Aaaah, by the way... I'm working on another Supertramp song for my next cover !!! 😁😉👍
Thanks for watching Chad … so I didn’t respond or comment for a day on this video and I got about 200 views! It’s hard not responding to my friends comments on my videos. Now I think some songs are more liked than others, so I’m not sure about your “view” theory and the TH-cam feed? I will experiment again on a less popular song during the week!
Great feel and fantastic cover! You have the chops and impeccable time keeping skills. Thanks for inspiring me to dust off the kit and play! You should cover "Dreamer" at some point.
DUDE, you got some Supertramp on here??? I'm stoked! You'll have to guide me but I thought Supertramp was one of those acts that had copyright issues galore. I am never let down with any of the picks you go with Earl. The kit is on fire as usual dude 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Trey! I did the Logical Song and it got through a few weeks ago! I have no idea why! TH-cam doesn’t make sense anymore! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
You have that groove down just right. Great touch on the ride as well! If you have the weight, I'd really appreciate it. When I think of the perfect ride sound, that's it. Thanks!
Thanks for the encouragement my friend! The 22” Avedis ride is 2714g a little on the heavy side for these cymbals. That’s why I bought the cymbal … I want more of a medium versus a light ride.
@@earldrum Absolutely! This has always been one of my favourite songs too. Thanks for the info. I just bought a 22" Giant Beat and an '81 20" 2002 ride( right when they switched to red labels) and thought I was all good for rides ( Have an old 602 18' flat and 4 or 5 various Zs ). But that Avedis really is my ideal sound. Thank you and please keep the vids coming! Great inspiration and just listening in general.
@@musicalchairs777 that’s an awesome collection! 18” 602 Flat! Nice! By the way I wanted that 22” Giant Beat, but I got. Great deal on a used 22” 2002 Big Beat! That 2002 big Beat sounds very close to my 22” Avedis!
@@earldrum Thanks! You as well. I'll have to go back and listen to that Big Beat again, I remember thinking that was the ideal, at least in your vid. You make 'em all sound good, that's the trick! Haha
Earl! Man, what a great way to start a Friday! Love Supertramp! Nice job! Hey, is the 19 Armand Ride the one w/ rivets? Sounded sweet w/ the crescendo!
Beautiful Earl! I love this classic. I’m a one up one down or one up 2 down guy but that’s a very interesting setup that seems very practical to me. I’d consider adding more toms if they are set up like this. What are the sizes you are running in this configuration?
The concert toms are 6.5x10 and 9x13. The regular toms are 8x12 and 14x14 … it was a set up that was inspired by the DANNY Seraphine original Chicago Rogers drum kit. I had just played two Chicago songs before this one. I liked the concert tom vibe for the song. Thanks for watching Keith!
Arey you using concert toms (single headed) rack toms? It looks like you're mixing and matching different toms. What concert toms are you using (single head)? I would say it's either (Ludwig or Slingerland drums). Which is it? DADDIO?
Thanks for the feedback and watching Adam! Yes, I’m using a mix of a Gretsch 14x20 kick, 8x12 and 14x14 toms with 6.5x10 & 9x13 Pearl Fiberglass Concert Toms. Assorted Zildjian cymbals and a 6.5x14 DMR CUSTOM DRUMS cast aluminum snare drum.
@@earldrum Your drum kit sounds great. It takes a lot of skill & talent to get your drum kit to sing. I love your toms, (especially the Pearl single heads). Having the aluminium snare drum cuts through nice. It offers a nice sonic attack, that works harmoniously with the rest of your drum kit. Nice work, with a classic song from Supertramp. I always appreciated their layered sound, with each musician playing behind their instruments. When they toured live, they added two additional musicians who augmented on keyboards/guitar. Keep up your good work on your drum kit. I always wanted a single-head (Slingerland, Pearl or Lugwig drum kit).
@@adamlasko315 me too Adam! I finally have all the drums that make an Octaplus kit now. I love playing my concert tom kit! There are many videos with that kit on my channel! Thanks for watching!
Concert tom sound is making a big comeback. The Paiste cymbals cut much better through the music, maybe the B20 frequency is just too low of a frequency and doesn't carry as good as B8. Paiste knows B8 o guess, but they sound the best. O love Zildjian, but recording for me its Paiste
What a fabulous cover. So happy to see all these Supertramp covers making it. So awesome. Have a great weekend my friend.
