Revolutionary Orange Goo Used to Protect Football Players From Head Traumas
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 28 ก.พ. 2018
- D3O goo behaves like a liquid when you move it slowly, so it flows easily. It’s soft and flexible but when subjected to high force, it behaves like a solid and absorbs the impact.

Jeeeee
ᖇᗩᑎᗪOᗰ ᗷOᖇEᗪᑎEᔕᔕ I noticed that too!
ᖇᗩᑎᗪOᗰ ᗷOᖇEᗪᑎEᔕᔕ 😹 I was like they really picked that clip to do slow mo
Edward Hernandez lol yeah
1:05 hits own finger
umpus using a sledgehammer wouldn't make a difference. I have the same shit at work for motorcycle gear
Me trying to impress someone
Uh, it would make a difference if you miss the goo completely like the op is pointing out.
*rip*
LMAO😂😂😂
1:04 did you really have to show her missing the goo and hitting her finger in slow mo 😂
I saw it 😂😂
😂😂
I was looking for this comment 😂
@Sin She sucked it up like a champ tho didn't she lol
Same with at the beginning
1:02
*misses hand, breaks wrist*
she just hit her hand at the begining
@Fake Justin Y. not really it was an accident
Actually all of y'all are wrong. She is obviously showing people that the goo works. #Smart
Yup, that's what she did 😂
1:05 "They ask you how you are, and you just have to say that you're fine..."
One does not simply I love how they didn't edit it out, clearly its a well edited video so they know what they are doing.
One does not simply but you not really fine..
🤣🤣🤣
But your not really fine
I'm dying!!! Cus I peeped it too
1:05 Is your hand made of platinum?

Nope her hands were made of orange manure made by a slime monster that is used to make armor from the millitary.
*You're welcome*
Radian her rings are
"When subjected to high force, it can protect you.."
1:03 ; misses the stuff entirely.
ouch
1:05 is it just me or did she just hit her finger demonstrating the orange stuff!?
Edit: Thx for the positive comments and 1.9k
Yeah, she did.
I believe it hit the orange goo then fell and hit the finger but the orange goo absorbed most of the impact
Andreas Buus Mukherjee1 Unknown stuff autocorrected to stiff and I had to change it 👌🏼
Samuel Heft bruh stop copying my comment
SHE SURE FUCKING DID
I FUCKING cried in laughter , she kept her composure imagine what she was thinking
BAHHAHAHAHAHAH
*tries to demonstrate use of goo*
*failed to hit goo directly*
*oof*
Goof
BIG OOF
Yeah I'm not the only one who noticed she hit her hand.
Adam Keppler obviously not. The editor even edited it to show her fail
Saaaaaame
1958: I bet in the future football helmets would be super advanced!
2018: Goo.
Im sorry but no-one has probably ever stopped and thought of that
this one really made me laugh 😂
X'sCube r/whooosh
If they learned how to tackle properly then they wouldn't need this. None of them have technique and I have never seen an American football player correctly tackle.

So basically it's a putty(?)
pretty much
Oobleck like
Vanessa Valencia yea they took selling putty to another level
it's more like oobleck, in the beginning (0:33) she explained it as a non-newtonian fluid which is also what oobleck is if you think about it that way.. but oobleck is more liquidly without fast motions, this is like a slime version lol
Its putty in its raw form but when its cured its like a dense foam
1:05
"It can protect you"
it looks like it hit her hand
True looked like it hurt alot
It can deflect in this instance
She is payed to say it didnt hurt
Ooof!
zury tufino. probably because she missed dumbass
It may prevent skull hitting helmet but not brain hitting skull
easy..just put the goo in your head problem solve
There is fluid in the brain to prevent that
@@WilliamDalituicama brain hitting the skull is what causes the concussion you moron

I think it dodges injuries.

1:04 replay to show she hit herself.
1:06 she missed the goop
JR_ Does_Stuff 😅
*protects yourself from injuries*
It really hurt her for sure
If it didnt hurt there then how do we know how good the stuff actually is
It hit the goo first
Pretty sure I made this stuff as a kid and called it oobleck
Oobleck doesn't rip
For those of you who think I am serious... lmao
Maybe you can also use oobleck just make it thicker and add glue
Completely different stuff I would say
they're both non-newtonian fluids, but they are made of different materials
Tbh i thought it was propulsion gel in the thumbnail
Happy Little Accidents Their whole lab reminds me of Aperture Science.

Josh Foulkes I wanna know how much her face contorted when she hit herself 😂 bet the editors were like shit, we can't show her face (but like, why didn't they retake the shot thooo)
Fruity Bundt i know yeah, dont think she grasped the fact you have to hit the D3O for it to protect you😂
I've been making this with corn starch since I was 7.
A Buzzed Whaler That's different,it's a liquid when under no pressure. This is a semi solid, but it doesn't flow like the fluid you're talking about
It's a different liquid, but they have similar properties. As you can see, the orange goo stays solid after being left alone, corn starch with water instantly turns water-like.
You have been making oobleck
TheDragonKing It's a joke. I don't actually believe I've been producing a complex chemical compound since my early childhood.
A Buzzed Whaler lol
I thought I seen her smack her hand, lol! Way to keep on going without missing a beat
I like it when they do the slow-mo while she hits her finger with that metal thing.

Yh its called putty
jessica banks *I just cackled.*
This is the stuff they use in a ton of motorcycle gear, it’s in all my jackets
The thing is with this stuff is that it loses alot of it's impact absorbing properties when it's molded or baked. It becomes just like any other foam protector.
Ok girl you know damn well that it hurts 😂 1:04
@Tyrel J. what black person talks like that? Racist, assuming they're "trying to talk like a black person" like they talk a certain way. You're the uneducated one, not knowing how to spell.

A helmet doesn’t stop the brain from smashing it self from side to side inside the skull.
True but it is a way to reduce risk by increasing impulse and decreasing impact. Hence why a parkour athlete can fall from greater height with proper technique vs landing straight.
I think its best to fill the space between the skull and brain with this goo, ez.
It increases the deceleration time. This means that the brain has 2 seconds to move, instead of 1. The strain placed upon the brain is spread out over 2 seconds instead of 1. It's the same logic behind crush spots on cars. Taking longer to decelerate will lessen the damaged sustained.
Just fill it in
Thats just a small brain people problem.
Now all we need is the goo to protect us from bullets
When can i use it on my social life?
When you click the video for Football but it turns out to be about rugby. One of the biggest blunders in modern history.
@@alanshellykoshy112 but in American football you still kick the ball into the other end when setting up before the play starts
Rugby and American football are completely different sports
alan shelly koshy you too!
@@alanshellykoshy112 Football originally referred to games played on your feet (as opposed to horses). Association football is the full name of the sport you're thinking of. It was nicknamed "soccer" as shorthand for association in some places and shortened to just football in others as other types of football died out.
American football is basically a glorified and padded imitation of rugby. I’d like to see some NFL players strip their pads and attempt to play rugby, we’ll see how tough they really are.
In laymen terms, strong Oobleck

Yep
@Tyrel J. wha
Alana Foster no no no i think it should be a putty

This only protects your skull from cracking. Head trauma is not just damaging your skull it’s is also the damage that is caused to the brain. Even if you have a ton of padding, when you have a high impact injury, your brain still moves and hits your skull which can still cause bruising and concussions.
Wish they had this when I was in Highschool
_So you can see that the slime is a little over-activated, so we are going to add some body lotion._

I feel like I live in a movie. We now have super goo
Is this the most satisfying video on TH-cam ?
It might protect the head from trauma but it's the brain being moved or hit against the wall of your own skull which cause things like concussions so this may help with gashes or bruises but not with serious head injuries.
Just look the good side while we found a human way to inject that goo into a human skull I mean this is still useful
Helmets like these increase deceleration which does help internal concussion.
These people just pretending they invented silly putty SMH.
Prostate Protection *guy who doesn't get the joke sees this comment:*
"uhhh did you not watch the whole video? omg" lol
Prostate Protection uhhh did you not watch the whole video? omg

Okay, I have made a new invention. A phone case protector!
1:05 it can protect you , hits her finger
I love your name
Well the orange stuff wasn’t on the part of her hand that she hit.

This orange goo reminds me of my corn flour it act the same way like this goo😂
Got that in my motorcycle jacket and trust me it works.
Sooo... basically making armor out of slime? Ok. Science 2k18
Yeah put it on and you're good to go to iraq ...
Its bullshit.... even kevlar helmets don't protect you from being shot.
@@RubberDuckrubberduck She literally says in the video that it's not going to protect you from getting shot. Yes, it protects from the shock, but it's not going to protect from the bullet going through it.
Rubber Duck It’s not to protect you from getting shot it’s a shock absorber
I feel like this is arons putty
Yeah, put slime in a football helmet and see how that works out for you
Why would they use the orange goo when the blue goo is way bouncier?
Ooooh
Because... they can give more acceleration to make something? Idunno. Blame Aperture.
Now you're thinking with goo.
They could use grey goo, like, just do you can make tiny portald so you don't get hit and the oppponent justs, uhhh, i don't know, molecular structure is invalid and it immediately desmaterializes? Yeah that should work
Would be cool if they could some how make this mixed with kevlar and it be shock and bullet resistant.
what is the goo made of?
so it is basically ooblek
It acts just like it
so it's based off it
Silent98 no
Yes, she says at 0:33 that it's a non-newtonian fluid which is the same type of matter that ooblek is.
Its a modified ooblek I'd say.
Doesnt stop the brain from banging into your skull
EDIT: People are taking this comment the wrong way. Obviously this is helping reduce injuries. Im starting to get tired of people not reading the chat. I get that its 50 comments long by now, but just know I agree with you. Just read it
Omg, exactly!!! I'm looking for a comment like this because their "concussion science" is incredibly flawed
But it extends the impact time so it's less brutal
It helps reduce the risk. But I guess reducing the risk isn't good enough for you people.
Rpoman2009 and concussions are good enough for you?
Maybe Later as long as my brain isnt splattered over the floor, ill take concussions anyday
Must have hurt missing the second time with that hammer or mallet haha
But does it speed you up when you walk on it so that you can make jumps you normally couldn’t?
1:05 *OOF*
Joshua Heng it protects you 2 seconds later hurts her self 😂
Joshua Heng me
Hahha i throught i am thr only one notice that
That shit hurted
Joshua Heng I legit scrolled through the comments for this comment lmao
Unfortunately this will protect the skull but not the “Secondary” collision of the brain bouncing around inside the skull cavity..the only to stop that is to limit high g impacts of the body
Mr Bob still absorbs the impact to make the hit less damaging...
It acts more as a shock absorber.
Elijahn Sapuay on the contrary, it stiffens up and concentrates the force in one direction.
Yhitte um, that is not how non-newtonian fluid works...
This material acts like a shock absorber to lessen the impact (but of course, not fully) It is like a car going through a very bumpy road. If the suspension is really good, you wouldn't feel the bump at all
Elijahn Sapuay well it will certainly dampen less than a material specifically designed for it.
Unless I assume incorrectly that the extraordinary qualities of this material are its ability to become solid at impact and thus spread the force over greater area.
The helmet application is clickbait. For a helmet, you want to slow the deceleration, not have the lining of your helmet turn solid on impact (ouch). The real advantage is that it remains flexible and conformant in normal conditions. Maybe shoulder or other body pads that would be comfortable to wear (flexible), but turn hard if impacted. My guess is that this material is also relatively heavy compared to styrofoam or carbon fiber/high impact plastic.
Is it true that it doesnt work in too hot or in too cold weather...?
I have D30 in my knee pads for mountain biking, works great 👍
Aperture Science back at it again
This is the greatest game related joke on a science video ever
neutron star Lmao
How much does it weigh.

They've taken Repulsion Gel, and made it the color of Propulsion Gel. Better double-check the waivers, there's going to be some very confused test subjects.

Ellie Bohnstedt it’s not slime you child
Darth Maul but it doestn mean you cant play with it like a slime
Ellie Bohnstedt wasn’t a comeback
I also want this. And not just cornstarch and water. This is like cornstarch water goo solution
D30 is a common type of armor used by motorcyclists. It dramatically reduces the chances of blunt force injuries as well as spinal injuries.
and impact
does this work with other colors too?
doesnt stop brain from shaking
it's what people neglect to realize
There’s less shake when there’s less shock. The goo absorbs the shock.
ATK you're trying to prove a point, that has nothing to do with what was being said.
fernando guerrero it does you obviously just don’t understand. The brain moving inside the skull is caused by the shock of the hit and the damage is cause by the brain which is freely moving hitting the skull when it settles. When the impact is over, the skull is allowed to move into the goo lined in the helmet, making it a slower impact for the brain.
ATK ATK Im sorry but you're the one who doesn't understand. I'm not saying you're wrong... but you're seeking validation in a convo that had nothing to argue about. You both pretty much agreed and you're there trying to argue and prove a point. At this point I'm starting to think you're a narcissist
It actually doesn't work as head protection in contact sports IMO.
In American football, rugby, MMA, etc it is very rare for the skull itself to get damaged. What causes brain injuries is the acceleration of the skull resulting in the brain hitting its inner walls.
Yhitte, it isn’t just your opinion. It has been proven. Helmets and other protective gear may prevent wounds like cuts, bruising and broken bones, but they do virtually nothing for brain trauma.
The purpose of the goo is to decelerate the head, kinda like a pillow. So I won’t shake your Brain around lol
thank you . agree 100%
They should make something for their neck so their head doesn’t go flinging back and there brains doesn’t slam into their own skull pretty sure that could reduce some damage
TriHard 7 yeah it’s called a neck pad my dude, linemen used them back in the day but players don’t really use them now cause it doesn’t look “cool”
I bet the old football players who are retired laugh at this
Pinhead
They’re probably a vegetable
A lot of them have degenerative brain diseases so I don’t think anyone cares who laughs at who.
If they have brain damage, they laugh at everything.
Who ya callin’ pinhead
Football players don't need helmets 😂. They're just running around kicking the ball. Why a helmet? To protect them if the players kicks the football right into their head? Never seen kids wearing those during practice.
so this is how saiyan armor made
The problem is not the protection, it is the adverse disruption that protective technologies have had on the evolution of high-impact sports such as American Football. More padding = higher force hits and internal injuries. Protective technologies are of course not to blame, but it would be best to think of them as only half of the solution, the other half being the scrutinizing of the fundamental culture underlying these sports as well as the need for improved medical understanding of internal injuries such as concussions.
trailkrum very true. This just allows people to hit harder as there is less pain as most the force is dissipated. This will cause more injuries.
Lodlum B People are going to hit you as hard as they can in American Football anyways.
Not if it hurts just as much to hit as it is to get hit, Mithrax.
That's an ahistorical claim, look at the history of the sport and rule changes. American football with less padding resembled more present day rugby in terms of tackling.
With much less viewers on live TV and much less money on the line for everyone involved in the production. Take out helmets and of course you're going to see less concussions and less big hits/exciting moments, but that comes at the cost of millions of dollars as fans and contributors move on to the next sport.
Aperture science is real everybody
PROPULSION GEL
FUR HEHE the cake is a lie
FUR HEHE SPAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEE
They said I couldn't fire a man for being in a wheelchair. Did it anyway ramps are expensive.
What are the ingredient in making this goo, how it is made
Don't you want the opposite reaction? when it's hit hard don't you want it to ease your head like a pillow not stiffen like a brick. That won't decrease the rattling of the brain. It will mold to your head within the helmet and feel "soft" but right when high velocity strikes it turns hard. It's basically saying, here's this block of concrete perfectly formed for your head type don't worry it's protecting the your brain. It won't cushion or soften anything. It forms to your head and mimics the skull on impact thus damaging what you thought you were protecting. Am I crazy?
