I think that specifically *not* making the arms to look human is a great idea, since when you see those, it is clearly obvious that they are not natural, and the whole thing just plummets into the uncanny valley. This product on the other hand (no pun intended) by looking mechanical, rather than natural, creates a completely different first impression. Instead of seeing a disabled person with a prosthesis, you see a person with a freaking robot arm
The uncanny valley is an effect hat applies mainly in human faces. I'm not sure that it would be the same with arms and hands. A cool-looking bionic arm could draw unwanted attention to you due to being incredibly obvious whereas an almost life-like imitation would be much less conspicuous.
I disagree, take a look at 2:33 for example, I think the "human like" prosthetic looks horrendous, nevermind the coloration difference. I might be biased through scifi pop culture but the mechanical prostethic shown in this video looks absolutely rad, something I am sure I could stand for instead of being ashamed of whatever freaklike apparatus covered in "human skin".

Brody S. Luckymann no need to start an argument out of nowhere. Jeez, they weren’t kidding when they said people in the internet are cruel for no reason.
I checked it out and some of the covers are under 200, but getting the arm itself made costs around ~$6000 USD Still about half the cost of other prosthetics on the market.
Happie Chapman that’s not really that big a deal. That’s a car. Comparatively that’s what androids cost in Detroit become human. The technology growth is massive for this kind of product. Not to mention 3d printing technology is skyrocketing and becoming both more efficient and cheaper. And 5 years ago a bionic prosthetic with this kind of technology cost like 20k on the low end
*Goes to Robotic surgeon in the future* Me: "Hello. Yes, i'd would like the full arm replacement. I want the one that can curl 1000 Lbs please." i can see this happening. though it would be a heavily monopolised trade that'll inevitably turn to the elite-led dystopias we see in many shows and movies.
Yes, someday, the technology is improving. But the whole idea of "embracing your difference" is nothing more than a marketing tactic. Losing your hand doesn't make you special, it makes you an amputee, I don't really appreciate trying to turn it into some kind of self-acceptance thing, like morbidly obese people "learning to love their curves". This is a disability, it's not the victims fault, but I really don't like setting a precedent where we begin to pretend it's not.
I’m so hyped, we’re starting to enter the age bio-cybernetics and it’s so neat. Just goes to show that humanity doesn’t have to be limited by anything.
King DoMingo You have a point, if the wrong people get their hands on something advanced then it could be frightening, but I’m talking small-scale. This is beautiful, now people who could never do something like this or could at one point but lost that opportunity can have it and, again, there are no boundaries for them. We aren’t leaving our fellow man behind to fend for themselves.
This is all great and inspiring. Please keep up the good work. My brother is fighting ever day. Miracle survivor of a motorcycle accident. Lost the use of his right arm and hand but refuses to cauterize the nerves in hopes to one day regaining back control over them. Hardest working man I know and to have the use of his hand back would mean the world. I’m aware that this video is regarding amputees and I’m praying for their recovery. If ever your company develops a glove exercise device that stimulates or coordinates with nerve commands, my brother would be the perfect candidate.

wait, you mean to tell me that these people made a life changing product and sells it for under 200 bucks! wtf! i commend you! thats amazing!!
I checked it out and some of the covers are under 200, but getting the arm itself made costs around ~$6000 USD
Still about half the cost of other prosthetics on the market.
They have to custom make it, the materials and time going into making it would be expensive, not to mention the money that went into research.
Matthew Traver that's the crazy part. A better thing for half the price? Damn

Happie Chapman 7k for a whole new arm? Pretty cheap
Tyler Butler cheaper than the blackmarket
*Mr. Krabs has joined the chat*

Me: "uhhhh"
Doctor: "They can make you jump 2 meters into the air"
Me: "Yes."
i can see this happening. though it would be a heavily monopolised trade that'll inevitably turn to the elite-led dystopias we see in many shows and movies.

@@patana256 your name is very relevant in this situation
I love the spirit of the product: Embracing your difference and making it beautiful instead of trying to hide it and pretend like it doesn't exist.
A necessary branding strategy to compensate for the fact that the technology does not nearly serve as a replacement to a lost hand.
Watchers Review People with disabilities will find this helpful even without that sentence so you better just deal with it.
To be honest if you had one of these in public people would be like holy shit gimme gimme gimme

I’m so hyped, we’re starting to enter the age bio-cybernetics and it’s so neat. Just goes to show that humanity doesn’t have to be limited by anything.
A Dandy Guy Nah I'm scared asf
