    Another great tutorial... I am pretty sure I will use it with client , I will report back when I do. I really enjoy the way you go through the tutorial and then when you show your demo it has extra polish and expertise, it really inspires me into tweaking and playing with the tutorial to try to get more out of it. Not that it is not already great and packed with excellent tools for me to learn to apply and skills to develop, IT IS, but the polished demo really opens up the door to explore further. Thank you very much, I really appreciate you adding that not so subtle subtlety and incentive in, it is not lost on us!

    Just made it!!! and then I turned the photo into a drop zone so I create a short video :P I feel accomplished and you're a hero! For some reason I could not use the text file as a source because motion wasn't reading it but not big deal !

    • @SimonUbsdell
      @SimonUbsdell  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congratulations on completing it. The text file must be saved as a true Plain Text file. Motion won't be able to read Rich Text. You can change this by opening the file in Text Edit and selecting Format/Make Plain Text. Result file should have the .txt suffix. Hope that helps.

    Another Ubsdell-at-his-best - great tutorial :)
    … in my experiments, I noticed, making the Replicator a 3D/Box can give some interesting 'depth' too - as a suggestion. In that context: great, how Motion allows to play with settings 'interactively', while playing the animation.
    kudos, Simon!

    • @SimonUbsdell
      @SimonUbsdell  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, a 3D box can work too - the only issue with that here would be performance. It's probably more efficient to use multiple 2D layers as 3D Replicators can get very slow very quickly, especially if you are using the File Generator technique described here. But if your hardware is up to it, it's worth a try certainly.

  • @e.leewhite7907
    @e.leewhite7907 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Simon hands down you are one of the most powerful motion instructors i have studied on the web. something for me. You gave us another version of how to make this cloud effect. Honestly this other effect made things confusing.When you deleted the other layers and then when back to where you were working the project before you added these other layers. Things got a little confusing, It would be great if you had gone from start to finish on the finish effect. Then show us how we could do the other effect if we wanted that.
    I have to zoom into your screen to see some of the things you are doing. Like I wondered why when I tried adding the sequence replicator it wasn't working. Then I notice my layer was lock for the repilicator. I don't know why when I duplicted the sequence in replicator for sequence out it wasn't working.

    Simon, fantastic tutorial. I created one as you worked through the steps you took and it tuned out pretty good though not as good as yours looks. I do have a question. Notice at 0:22...Your words seems to be masked within the picture of Trump rather than laying over the picture. You distinctly see this on his face and hand. Did you use a mask?

    • @SimonUbsdell
      @SimonUbsdell  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I suppose I could have used a mask to achieve that result but in fact it was simply that I chose an image with a dark background that effectively cut out the figure in the foreground. I think this technique usually works best when you have high contrast situations like that.

    • @SimonUbsdell
      @SimonUbsdell  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just follow the steps outlined in the tutorial - that's the exact same technique used for the opening section. Different images will give different looks and how you adjust the various parameters will also have a big effect - there's a lot of scope for putting your own stamp on it.

    • @SimonUbsdell

      I am currently on 5.3.2 but this was recorded using 5.3.1. I'd strongly recommend upgrading from 5.1.2 if you can, as version 5.2 introduced a very useful feature that lets you enter dimensions for boxes and circles, which isn't possible in earlier versions, and makes this project a lot easier.

  • @IamJohnCarter

    Hey Simon! I have a question about Apple Software editing. There is a fantastic feature that is available in After Effects called "stabilize motion" where you can pick a point on your image and stabilize the entire image around that point. This effect was made popular by Guy Ritchie. Do you know if there an Apple version of this effect? I can't figure that out. Every time I have done a search the terms get all tangled up, and I can't figure anything out. If I have to guess I would imagine that Apple Motion would have an effect like this, but I can't find anything definitive. Any guesses?

    Simon thanks so very much for this tutorial. I plan on using this for an up coming project and was wondering, how can I easily duplicate and the entire end result to use different picture without having to do every step all over to each photo or video. Is there a way to just apply all the effects to a different photo or object and then just tweak the camera angle or any other parameter I might want to change? Your help would be most appreciated thank you

    • @SimonUbsdell
      @SimonUbsdell  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because of the way this project is built you can easily swap out the main image for anything you like at any time. The easiest way is to drag a new image file on thumbnail for the original image in the original picture group - everything will update as required and from there you can tweak the settings to taste. Another way is to go to Import and bring in a new image. The you can go to Properties/Media for the original image and from the "To" dropdown you can select the new image that you have imported. Hope that makes sense.

    • @jusachipa
      @jusachipa 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the same issue until I deleted the blank line at the bottom of my Text Edit word list. Here's what worked for me. Open the Text Edit file > delete the blank line at bottom of the Text Edit file, then save changes. Once my Text Generator and Middle sources were updated with the new Text Edit file (without the blank last line), I was able to select Random Start Frame without a crash. I hope this helps.

    This is so great! Thank you so much. How would I make the image less opaque and have the words outline and reveal the features of the face rather than the face being so prominent? Like in the intro- Donald Trump is nearly invisible.
    I'm superrrr new to Motion but I got it due to creating a live visual show for a live performance for ROL Records! Thanks again!

      I used a photo with a dark (low key) background. or I might edit it out. you can use a mask or even a vignette filter to help remove distractions also.

    Do you know why I am losing SO MUCH quality in my text when replicate it ?

    • @SimonUbsdell
      @SimonUbsdell  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds as though you are using the replicator to scale your text up beyond 100%. Don't do that - make your source text as large as it needs to be to keep the quality. The Replicator rasterises the source object which is what is causing you problems. If the source object is large enough to start with you can get around it.

    How to create a word text?

    Hello. Brother you are the best. I have any doubt. How did you save the text file?(xxx.doc xxx.txt...)
    Thanks.

      Create your text file in the Text Edit application, and choose Format/Make Plain Text, which will save the resulting file with the .txt suffix.
