Loved your reactions! And so glad you kept an open mind and gave the Bee Gees another listen. As I had mentioned previously, they (Barry) don't sing falsetto in all of their songs. And thank you Bob....what an absolutely perfect choice and suggestion for them to react to!
These three brothers have been singing together ever since they were kids. Barry 8 years old and the twins 6 years old. Barry in the middle, Robin and Maurice (with the hat) are fraternal twins, so no wonder they can harmonise so well.
The sing in the same timbre, the same accent, but they`re brothers....and the two on the left (may they rest in peace) are twins. I loved the BeeGees when I was younger and a tribute band from the Netherlands (called BeeGees forever) won a contest of tribute bands so now we hear a lot of BeeGees again. Simply lovely.
The first song "NY Mining Disaster" was written a year after a mining disaster in Aberfan, Wales where over 100 school children as well as some adults died. The lights went out in the recording studio and it made them think what it would be like to be trapped in a mine. I saw your eyebrows raise at Robin's short solo in that song. His voice was very unique with a beautiful rare vibrato. The second song is "Holiday". All of the brothers had a terrific sense of humour and people said if they failed at music they could have been comedians. Maurice's (Morris) humour was "family friendly" and Barry said "Robin was the funniest man he ever knew" but more cerebral. Barry (guitar) was the oldest brother and started the group, Maurice (the hat guy) and Robin, without the beard, were fraternal twins. They sang together since the twins were 6 and Barry 9. All three brothers wrote songs. Usually Barry and Robin wrote the lyrics and melodies and often Maurice as well. Maurice was a master musician on several instruments and he was the guy who put their songs to music....although none of them could read or write music! Maurice also sang lead but not in this medley. Robin often sang lead. Barry sang lead mostly in the "disco" era. Although each had different voices, their genetic tone being brothers was very special. Each brother was vital to the group.
The disaster in Aberfan was not in the mine itself, but rather caused by inept management of the coal slag tip above the village. After a significant rainfall the slag turned partially into a slurry and subsided down hill toward the village, completely burying a row of houses on the outskirts, and most notably the junior school which was in session that day. If anything it's more likely that they were writing about the people buried by the slag (over 20 adults and 100 children included), and changed it to a mining disaster to save aggravating a very sore issue.
@@mnomadvfx - I am aware of that and remember it happening at the time. It was still as a result of poorly operated mine management. No mine, no disaster. Obviously there were no children in the mine.
People associated them with disco but they describe their music as R&B. Remember, their career spanned SEVERAL decades long, with hit after hit. The medley was a good way to incorporate the hits without doing the full songs. After disco they were effectively cancelled so they wrote a dozen monster hits for others. P.S the first one was New York Mining disaster ❤
The bee gees are true geniuses, who suffered harassment, demolition, and censorship by the musical establishment and were marked with a lacerating stigma, while other groups and artists well regarded and promoted by the establishment took all the praise. Many have criticized the Gibb brothers for singing falsetto and I ask... and what is the problem with that?, does singing with falsetto cancel out their perfect harmonies, the finesse of their compositions, their very careful productions of their own and for others?, their unbeatable melodies. To criticize them for this only denotes prejudice and enormous ignorance. Other artists have sung with falsetto but it seems that if Prince, Freddie Mercury does it (he resorted to falsetto in some of Queen's songs) or others it is fine, but if the Bee Gees create a style and with falsetto they achieve a greater versatility of their voices and their melodies this should be criticized by some musical supremacists. I encourage you to continue with the reactions to Bee Gees songs. The Bee Gees were brothers - Barry (long hair and beard), Robin (clean shaven, the one with the gorgeous vibrato voice) and Maurice (pronounced like Morris - the guy with the hat) Gibb. A good concert video that Maurice sings lead on is 'Closer than Close' and another is 'Man in the Middle'. Maurice's voice was not as powerful as Barry's or as unique as Robin's - but he was the one most responsible for their amazing blended harmonies. He always knew exactly where to best place himself vocally.

The first song was called "New York Mining Disaster". The reason for those awesome, unmatched harmonies is because they are brothers and started singing together when the twins were only 6. The next dee dee song was called "Holiday". Then "Too Much Heaven", next "Heartbreaker" written by the brothers sung by Diane Warwick her biggest selling single ever, then "Islands in the Stream" written by the brothers sung by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers turned out to be the biggest selling country song in history. "Run to Me" written by Robin, the brother with the hat is Maurice (Mo) the clown, Robin's twin brother. Lastly, the "World is Round". All three have massive vocal range. The songs were NY mining disaster 1941, Holiday, Too much heaven, Heartbreaker (written for Dionne Warwick early 80s but they did record it the 90s), Islands in the stream ( Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton), Run to me and World. Maurice (in hat) songs lead on Man in the middle , closer than close and walking on air to name a few,

@@Newfie-zc7ug - They had a career as kids actually supporting their family doing a sort of vaudeville/folk act in Australia, their early UK pop and psychedelia in the 60's, flopping in the 1972-4 era, "disco" (R&B) era 1975-'79, writing for other artists in the 80's and doing solo LP's, revival as a touring group in the late 80's and 90's, ending with Mo's death in 2003. After that Robin and Barry went their separate ways but still recorded. Robin even wrote a philharmonic piece "The Titanic Requiem" in 2011/12 which was played by the National Philharmonic, and an LP released in 2014 after he died in 2012. Barry then released an LP of their songbook performed by various artists. It seems like they had a slew of careers, real chameleons.
Heartbreaker was Dionne Warwick Islands in the Stream was dolly parton and Kenny Rogers. If you like the"hot guy" aka Maurice, you should react House of Shame.
The Bee Gees wrote all their songs except Will You Love Me Tomorrow which was a tribute to Carole King. They wrote many songs for other musicians, also.
In fact they recorded at least about 25 covers, such as "Ticket to ride", "Hallelujah I love her so", "Every day I have to cry", "Daydream", "The twelth or never", "Lonely winter", "You won't see me", "I love you because", "Paperback writer", "You're nobody till somebody loves you", and many more. There are also a bunch of unreleased tracks.
@@buchholtzmathieu1810 - Those songs were done primarily when they were still kids in Australia, trying to get noticed. Robin also did an excellent cover of the Stones "Out of Time" which Mick Jagger loved. The few later covers were a Beatles medley on The Midnight Special, Beatles songs in the awful Sergeant Pepper movie (including one that was a hit for Robin, "O Darling"), "Love Hurts" by Robin who also did an LP, "Magnet" of songs by young artists that he mentored. With three versatile voices they could sing the phone book.
They did "Too Much Heaven" an octave lower than the original which was all falsetto. I like it both ways but never heard this lower version until now but it was really good.
Andrei, you should do a reaction with your wife to that song, Too Much Heaven. I think we can change Dominika's mind on these gentlemen. We have to get her away from Saturday Night Fever and show her some of the zillion other hits from them. And I could be wrong but I think they always share the same mic.♥
I absolutely love Maurice...he's so funny 💔 R.I.P. Barry (guitar) is the oldest. Robin & Maurice (hat & beard) are fraternal twins with Robin being older. Let's not forget the younger sibling Andy. Who went solo. So sad that Barry is the only living brother of this bunch of so talented men.
The Bee Gees could probably be evaluated by what they did each decade. As I recall, Mr. Jones was about a mining disaster in England. Every decade and quite a few Bee Gees songs worth listening to
That would be Mo that is your favorite. He only took the lead a couple of songs. He can play every instrument and was key in the sounds of the Bee Gees. If you want to hear him shine you must check out Nights on Broadway (Midnight special this particular video), Man in the Middle and to love somebody. He is my all time favorite and they were all underrated.
The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988. The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born. All 4 brothers are just natural musical talents. All of them dropped out of high school in their early teens and none of them could read or write music. All their compositions were created completely organically. Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1967. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' (and was also actually the first album on which their logo was introduced). From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too th-cam.com/video/7niXSh7vWRI/w-d-xo.html Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: th-cam.com/video/WH_j90fCIk4/w-d-xo.html, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out th-cam.com/video/vfHUS5Mf00Q/w-d-xo.html. From their Still Waters album, Smoke and MIrrors: th-cam.com/video/MT9vRHSWNbk/w-d-xo.html. From the 1960's I've gotta get a message to you th-cam.com/video/CA4CInDnTk8/w-d-xo.html. And from the 1990's the simple song Blue Island live in an accoustic version: th-cam.com/video/162GlAEpfrY/w-d-xo.html. Andy was kind of Barry's mini me, about half a foot shorter and 12 years younger but they were the only lefties of the family. However, his voice was nowhere near as broad in range or as strong as Barry's. As producer Alby Galuten said in the book "Tales of the brothers Gibb "Andy's falsetto was nowhere near Barry's." Andy had a lower, huskier, sound to his voice and his range was not as big as Barry's. I personally always thought his voice was much better suited to songs of his first album, Flowing Rivers. Andy died of myocarditis - which is an inflammation of the heart - on March 10, 1988, 5 days after his 30th birthday. His heart had been weakened by his drug addiction over the years which, by the way, was also the main reason for his split from Victoria Principal. He also had a congenital heart problem that was later also discovered in Barry and Barry's second son Ashley. Try listening to the song Dreamin' on th-cam.com/video/-KdBVKcSSSw/w-d-xo.html which is kind of a duet with Barry. And here are the 4 brothers live on stage in 1979 doing You Should Be Dancing th-cam.com/video/_6MR-E_Qzz0/w-d-xo.html And finally a few photos of Barry and Andy: i.postimg.cc/jS6n3Jkv/Barry-Andy.jpg and i.postimg.cc/TwnPh8M0/82c126fc42a35d3b737867af41338199.jpg and the 4 brothers with their mother i.postimg.cc/FRNMbwkD/b9b2561eadffee11347573c97063c2f8-zpsd89478eb.jpg

Mo the one with the hat.he does a lot of the arranging of where the voices go .He also plays guitar and keyboard .sings solo and does high and low harmonies and he is funny
that song 'Island in the stream' you recognized but couldn't place the singers that sang it, was Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. . . do you guys know the Bee Gees are brothers, Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb ...hence the name (Bee Gees = Brothers Gibb) which helps when it comes to harmonizing just like if you made a song by yourself, if you added your own harmony singing in a different pitch and laced it all together it would sound better than someone else harmonizing, provided you could sing a note of course 😅
the songs you recognize are hits they wrote for Dolly Parton, Dionne Warwich, Barbra Streisand... Personally I prefer their older songs (like the ones at the start) before the Nightfever era.
The name Bee Gees comes from the initial letters B and G from B ill G Goode, B ill G ates, B arbra G ibb, B arry G ibb and b rothers G ibb. Radio-presenter jockey Bill Gates named the group the "BGs" (later changed to "Bee Gees") after his, Goode's and Barrys and Barbras Gibb's initials. The name was not specifically a reference to "Brothers Gibb", despite popular belief.

True! Without a doubt. The 1989 concert is my favorite!! Youth has its advantages, but imo all of their voices and vocal strengths were at their peak in their 30’s and 40’s. Teens and 20’s, and 50’s on were great, but clearly strongest in 30’s and 40’s.

The last song was "World", 1967.
They probably had 2 careers ,maybe even 3 ??????????
@@susieq9801 Q, that was a really great summary of their amazing careers. As usual, Q, well said.
Heartbreaker was Dionne Warwick
Islands in the Stream was dolly parton and Kenny Rogers.
If you like the"hot guy" aka Maurice, you should react House of Shame.
How Can You Mend A Broken Heart. Just to see Andrei 's reaction. Bet he cries.
Guy's "To Much Heaven" unbelievable song please react to it 😊
VERY GOOD!! REACT SONG FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS LIVE BEE GEES 1993...
@@buchholtzmathieu1810 I was unaware of that. Thanks.
After Heartbreaker (Dionne Warwick), that's "Island In The Stream" (Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton)
Islands in the stream, Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton. Bee gees wrote this
With Barry on backing vocals & album produced by his production team.🎼
Legends !!!
Islands in the stream sung by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers
One of the biggest selling country songs of all time, with Barry on backing vocals.
The only harmonies that come close to them would be the Wilson brothers of the Beach Boys. Another grouping of brothers.
They did "Too Much Heaven" an octave lower than the original which was all falsetto. I like it both ways but never heard this lower version until now but it was really good.
That’s Maurice!!! He sings lead in Man in the Middle and Closer than close
They did for medleys.
Barry gibb, big brother. Robin Gibb in the middle, Maurice Gibb with hat. They were brothers, only Barry is still alive
The guy with the hat is Morise. If u wan't to hear him sing lead checkout their song called "Closer Than Close" live at the MGM Grand Los Vegas.
Maurice
The songs they are singing are from the 1970's
heartbreaker and islands in the stream are from eighties
Islands 🏝 In The Stream was recorded and made famous by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.
Bee Gees-alone
Believe it or not I looked at top twenty hits,….they could have sang another 26 songs we all would know. Big hits.
The guy in the hat was Robin.
Just today March 5th your wife didn't like how they sang, too much heaven in their high pinch falsetto voice
Their Harmonies Are So Good Because they Are Sibling Harmonies.
The Bee Gees could probably be evaluated by what they did each decade. As I recall, Mr. Jones was about a mining disaster in England. Every decade and quite a few Bee Gees songs worth listening to
Maurice .... "the guy with the hat" ... sings most of the higher parts.
If you haven't heard it, the version of "Nights on Broadway" from "Soundstage" in Chicago is excellent because you can hear each voice very well. ☺
❤❤❤❤
They are The Brothers Gibb. Thus BeeGees
"Too Much Heaven" is the song you reacted to that Dominique found irritating because they sung it in soprano! lol! Glad you got to hear it again in the lower register so you could appreciate how beautiful it is.
they made this reaction before dominique with great prejudges found irritating.
Dombray undra. Loving you guys.....I think the first one Was Mining Disaster.....about a collapsed mine in their country....digging underground?
The Australian Tour in 1989. The boys came back home :)
One of the songs was sung by Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton
If you want to hear Maurice sing solo (the hat guy 😊) you should listen to "Man in the Middle" ( th-cam.com/video/n6U-TpGiimk/w-d-xo.html ) , "Wildflower" ( th-cam.com/video/ghA-XQfOgts/w-d-xo.html ) or "Closer than Close" ( th-cam.com/video/JTL0WC4oyis/w-d-xo.html ).
Great suggestions!
Mo the one with the hat.he does a lot of the arranging of where the voices go .He also plays guitar and keyboard .sings solo and does high and low harmonies and he is funny
Poor Maurice never does a solo.
They all have very different voices
There was a fourth brother, Andy, who followed a solo career but sometimes joined his brothers:
th-cam.com/video/7aFqE7Fck0A/w-d-xo.html
Andy would've been 66 today, March 5th.😥
that song 'Island in the stream' you recognized but couldn't place the singers that sang it, was Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. . . do you guys know the Bee Gees are brothers, Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb ...hence the name (Bee Gees = Brothers Gibb) which helps when it comes to harmonizing just like if you made a song by yourself, if you added your own harmony singing in a different pitch and laced it all together it would sound better than someone else harmonizing, provided you could sing a note of course 😅
the songs you recognize are hits they wrote for Dolly Parton, Dionne Warwich, Barbra Streisand... Personally I prefer their older songs (like the ones at the start) before the Nightfever era.
BEE GEES Stands for BOTHERS GIBB😊
The name Bee Gees comes from the initial letters B and G from B ill G Goode, B ill G ates, B arbra G ibb, B arry G ibb and b rothers G ibb. Radio-presenter jockey Bill Gates named the group the "BGs" (later changed to "Bee Gees") after his, Goode's and Barrys and Barbras Gibb's initials. The name was not specifically a reference to "Brothers Gibb", despite popular belief.
To hear one of the all time best vibrato voices, please react to Robin’s signature classic hit I STARTED A JOKE. To hear Maurice (pronounced Morris) please react to HOLD HER IN YOUR HAND or WILDFLOWER.
I think the best version of "Joke" was from this same concert in Melbourne 1989
True! Without a doubt. The 1989 concert is my favorite!! Youth has its advantages, but imo all of their voices and vocal strengths were at their peak in their 30’s and 40’s. Teens and 20’s, and 50’s on were great, but clearly strongest in 30’s and 40’s.
Dolly parton. Kenny rogers. Islands in the stream.
Please react to TOO MUCH HEAVEN by the BEEGEES thanks
