  • This was SCARY!
    What started as an awesome day exploring the mountains suddenly got pretty serious. This was an intense situation. We tried to film as much as we could of the recovery whilst trying to actually get Tango up and out of the waterfall. There were a few moments when the car started to slide down the waterfall.
    Take a look to see how this recovery went for us...
    We hope you enjoy this video and that you can take some tips from us that you will be able to use if you ever need to recover your vehicle!

      My 1957 Series 1 Diesel 88, and my 1965 Series 2A Diesel 109 Station Wagon are still going strong, after all the years. They have never let me down, and always brought me home under their own power. I'm the original owner of both. I always enjoy your videos, along with other Land Rover videos. Greetings from Florida and the USA 🇺🇲

    Fantastic video Andy hit the nail on the head by his comment "about not having walked it" From an old man would air lockers have been of any use? Keep the videos flowing I love them. Safe journeys. 🌈👍

      I think they would help a lot, of course it is not a guarantee of success. In some shots you can appreciate some one wheel in each axle that had absolutely no traction.
      Well done with what you had mates, nice recovery 💪🏼

      @@noregomez thanks! It was definitely a team effort. We were conscious not to get our landrover stuck down the track too whilst winching. At first the winch didn’t work too. The unit wouldn’t connect to the controller.
      Luckily it played ball eventually!

Situations like that that you all walk out of will be talked about around the camp fire for years to come. Also, I love Andy's Yorkshire accent (I'm from Leeds) and the mountaineering Crocs, shit must have been serious!!!

    The suspense was so good i found myself skipping to the end to see you were safe , great video keep them coming , looks like you have an amazing time , love what you've done to Tango I'm about to do exactly the same to mine , did you alter your suspension I'd be interested to know as I'm considering fitting ARB BP51 shocks and springs to mine for the extra weight increase , I've subscribed to your channel well done all , Gary

      @TheLandyExpedition  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gary, thank you for your comment. We are glad you like the video!
      So, Tango belongs to Andy and MH and the green Landy used to winch them out is our vehicle.
      Andy’s suspension is all standard. We both run old man emu shocks and springs and love the way the car rides plus the 2” lift helps with clearance especially under load.
      I hope this is helpful for you!

    Great recovery. Next time open the hood while winching just as a precaution, if the cable comes loose and hits the screen

  • @overlandready

    2 things that immediately come to mind; why go there in the first place without properly checking the area first (I wrote that before knowing that was admitted), secondly, should have turned around at the bottom, there looks to be room if you get a wheel on the upward rock. Driving up there is much safer, but not as safe as a hose pipe. :-) ps please get some proper winch training so you keep safe and away from live winch lines that can severely injure if something alters that you aren't expecting.

    • @TheLandyExpedition
      @TheLandyExpedition  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much! Andy and MH in Tango I think have about 100kg+ on their roof, that includes the weight of their Icarus, their front runner roof rack, solar panels, etc.
      I don’t know the exact weight but I know they are a lot heavier with this new set up!

    You can spring your vehicle for weight, but being top heavy makes you vulnerable. Not just off road, but also at speed, or when suddenly needing to swerve.

    • @TheLandyExpedition
      @TheLandyExpedition  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a very good point often people modify their vehicles to improve off-road capability, but will overlook on road performance. So thanks for pointing this out!

      For speed, Anthony 🤭🤔
      You must be joking... Landies ain't built for speed, they are bricks on wheels...
      Very pretty bricks, though, I love them, sometimes I hate them, but the fact that they have souls makes them special...

      @@alwynvanwyk1851 my TD5 Defender would sit at 160km/h all day long on the motorway. Whether from Cape Town to Transkei, or the other way to Vioolsdrif. Top heavy - eina! 😉

      Anthony, is that just Scottish humor coming out now? 😂😂
      Well said, though...
      Hope you didn't miss the turn off roads to Coffee Bay, Mazeppa Bay and Haga Haga....
      My Td5, in good nick, never needed to go over 120km/h, as to our traffic regulations, but don't think it would have reached the 160km/h mark...
      Maybe down one of our old mine shafts, yes, or down Sani's Pass if you could keep it on the road..
      In any case, when I get into either of my Landies, my journey begins, therefore no rush to wherever..
      I remember, at times, with a slight wind from the back, how some plastic bags overtook me on the uphills.
      That's actually why they installed the wiper on the back window...
      It's main purpose was to wipe the bugs off that flies into it from the back....
      All jokes aside...
      They are great vehicles, and each person to it's own.
      Have a good one, fellow Landy Lover... 😇

    Nice video it shows what happens when you put someone in a vehicle who has no real idea of it's true capability along with no common sense.
