Hi Dheeraj, truly very informative video. Thank you. I am planning on a Zanskar trip, do you think the following acclimatisation would you good - 1 night each at Srinagar, Kargil , Suru valley before going to Padum for 2 night, 1 night at Purne and back to Manali. Please advise.
Very well said Sir.. I visited Sikkim and followed all your tips and successfully completed my trip without a single day AMS.. Thanks for all your words.
Hi Dheeraj . Your perfectly said all these 9 points for awareness. Everyone must follow these guidelines and take care while planning high altitude tours. Thanks for sharing 👍
Hello brother, last year in last week of September we visited leh-Ladakh-kargil. We planned this trip almost 4 months prior. And you helped a lot. We took each and every suggestion you gave through your videos and blogs. Thanks to you and our thorough planning we didn't faced any challenges. What he is saying about AMS is real, one of my friend is an athlete who runs kilometres in one go, and he was having slight breathing issue and headache for first 24 hours. So do acclimatize for atleast 2 days. Also don't take any unnecessary risks, be vigilant, do not offride and stunts, don't underestimate roads and climate of Ladakh, alway go with well planned itinerary (you can find this on this channel itself). And my personal suggestion always have extra days in your hand than your planned itinerary. For eg, If you are planning for 10 days trip, atleast have 12 days in your hand. Especially in shoulder months when it snows. This trip was the most memorable trip of my life, I will visit Ladakh soon again.

Travelling for the first time to ladakh.... Considering 3rd or 4th week of July.....Is it a good time for first timers to travel....If not please let tell the good time to visit.
July in general is a good time to travel before the monsoon time. By last week of July if there is monsoon rains that comes then it becomes not good time but otherwise before rains July is a good time to travel
Appreciate in depth info and thorough caring for all of us. I am a Sr.Citizen , aged 67 yrs - we have planned this trip via Manali while going and return via Kargil Srinagar in July 2023. It's a group tour. Secondly, please give me the brand name of your blue jacket and whether it's available in Indian market . Thanks boss.
sir, you should plan your trip in reverse order, I mean you should go to ladakh via srinagar and return via manali. the reason being, the altitude gain via going through srinagar is gradual and the body acclimatizes well, however via manali, the altitude gain is rapid hence acclimatization is not good.
Hello Ramesh sir, thank you so much for appreciating my content. I agree with AP ji above as he (or she) has suggested in the comment above I will HIGHLY recommend that you travel from Srinagar side and come back from Manali side, no matter what. It helps in acclimatization by gradually increasing altitude. You can check my most common itinerary here: th-cam.com/video/4Se3aQfRovw/w-d-xo.html Also the jacket I am wearing is of Brand name "Under Armour". I got it in USA and last year when I came to India, I did see some stores of this brand in Delhi Malls surely. Not sure if same jacket was there or not.
One mistake you should not do is arrive on a saturday or late Friday when you are a foreigner because you will need to apply for permission to visit the surrounding locations and if it is a Saturday, you will have to wait for two days for the papers to be available.
Absolutely but you can mitigate that as a foreigner by applying these permits through some travel agent as they can arrange it prior to you coming there.. it does not need to be like you need to book anything else or you need to travel with them.. even the hotels in Leh can arrange those permit in advance for you

Thank you Ashish bhai, yes that May update will be live on first Sunday of the month. And ha ha, I wish jugaad hote mere aise bhi :D.. but Kunzum Pass tak snow hatt gayi hai..
I have been to Ladakh, did extensive roadtrip, visited khardung la, pangong tso, leh, hunder village chang la etc. I did that trip through NH1 only, both way. So I am completely agreeable to all your suggestions. Last year I did roadtrip to entire Spiti circuit with my then 10years dog (Labrador). My dog turned 11this year. I am also a practitioner of optimum precautions. Hence I am seeking your guidance on the fact, if I manage to take my dog to j&k and Ladakh this October, 2024 then what are the possible challenges I may experience and also what are the precautions I should take. Information regarding available veterinary services will be really helpful. I do carry big oxygen cylinder in my SUV, I do carry package food, sufficient water, All possible medicines for human and dog. I just need your expert opinion regarding the fact that, if my 11 years old dog accompany me to Ladakh this October, then what extra precautions should I take from now on and also Informations regarding available veterinary services in the entire circuit. If you know any vet there and if you get time to discuss the issue with them and help me with a thorough guidance it will be really helpful.
I will try to find some connect of vets there and share with you.. MEanwhile You can get in touch with Leh based tour provider Ken +91 84510 57819, +91 866-9121640. Instagram: @unpluggedlife , Email: unpluggedlife.in@gmail.com If needed, you can refer my name to him and tell about this conversation that I shared his contact for seeking help on it. I will try to find too. In general, As the travel industry is booming in India, more and more hotels are becoming pet-friendly and welcome pets. Hotels in Ladakh even provide food for pets. You can otherwise choose the carry your frozen food. As you will do to yourself, do keep your pets adequately hydrated. May be before leaving for the trip, Do consult your veterinary doctor for any medicine for motion sickness or high altitude that he/she would like to prescribe. Finally, make sure you always carry your pet’s vaccination records with you on all your trips.
Hi Dheeraj. Informative, to-the-point & no-nonsense videos. I just subscribed. I've heard that Ladakh's beauty is at its peak in September end & October first week. Do you think its accurate to say that?
thank you so much.. and yes that is really good time to travel Ladakh and enjoy the beauty.. just carry layered clothing and heavy winter jacket when needed at passes and lakes.

@@discoverwithdheeraj Bhai, I’ll be driving from Mumbai to Leh on 17 May. I’ve copied your itinerary. Limited days ke vajese thode points chhodne pad rahe hai. Just one advice, time kam hai fir bhi turtuk jaana hai mujhe. So I’m planning to leave Hunder/Diskit at 5am for Turtuk and drive to Pangong from turtuk. Planning to reach pangong by 5pm. Tiring hai but kaisa rahega?
Thank you so much for this wonderful introduction to Ladakh. For a person planning his first trip, this video is a goldmine of information. Thank you ever so much. I would like ask so many questions but I will first watch the other videos
I was wondering. I land in Leh on 2nd July 10.30 am. After complete rest till evening we are just going to Shanti stupa for some dusk photos before wandering around the market till dinner and bed. On 3rd July the original plan was Indus - Zanskar sangam and places along that route in the morning. Then Shey, Thiksey areas in the evening, essentially for birding. Do you think this itinerary for 3rd can be replaced with a trip to Tso Kar and surroundings for birding. I know it involves a climb of additional 1000 meters by road. Do you think it is advisable? We are going to Nubra valley the next day, 4th July
I am planning a trip to Leh / ladakh in May … is this good decision? I am also planning to take oxygen canister / mask to help me with AMS condition if required… my question is I see many people travel to these places… does most of them get AMS … I mean what’s the trigger to AMS condition in our body ?
No Amit, not most people get AMS but it is a thing you should know about.. check this out 12 Tips to Prevent AMS - Acute Mountain Sickness in Ladakh, Spiti & Zanskar | Mountain Sickness Tips th-cam.com/video/8XijLqr6O0Y/w-d-xo.html

Hello sir nice to have guid like u, sir I m from Andhra Pradesh big fan of urs for quite some time. All my family members watch ur videos. I am eagerly waiting for my Leh Ladakh tour and very much excited but waiting for my Xuv700 to came 😊 sir need to know can u carry butane gas and stove along with us. V are planning to go around Srinagar to Leh and then Manali does they allow butane along with us plz let me know sir n more over never went snow if I go this will be the first no driving experience in mountain but it’s my dream to go Kashmir so which month will be best for me to travel their pl let me know sir waiting for ur reply sir thank you ❤🙏
Thank you so much for such a support and liking my videos bhai.. They will not allow you to cross any tunnels with the butane cylinders. It will be better if you buy them within Ladakh and then dispose them before coming to the tunnel. For first timers, I generally suggest, in comparison it is much safer to travel second half of September when the roads are stable, rains are gone and roads are dry.

Hi, I always like your videos. Just an FYI. In June 2022, I stayed completely shirtless on the KHAR DUNG LA pass top for almost 2 hours (I had to vacate by force by the army men there). The whole video is available. But I was very comfortable and enjoyed it; Later I went to NUBRA, PANGON etc. There on top, I pushed a broken car too. I have fantastic research conclusions. If anybody is interested then I can share the video. As I am a research scientist (so, I was the subject, and nobody was ready to take the risk) and took many readings on my body. Absolutely normal. How to achieve it, I can explain the scientific method. Never been to LADAKH before the trip. I stay in Mumbai at sea level.
With due respect Doc.. well, you are a scientist, you experiment.. but I will surely place caution for everyone reading this comment to not mimick it! For information purpose, do share the video so that we can also know more about it..
@@discoverwithdheeraj Sure, I understand. Please don't try without a doctor's observation. Not to mimic it at all. Well, Last year, my age was 54 years when I did it without taking any medicine or chemical. Again, I did the same actions as CHANG LA PASS. It is effortless.......Then, I found the secret about the SADHUS living in fewer clothes (nowadays, there is hardly anyone) in the Himalayas. It is easily possible. But training is required. It is pure science. I can survive there shirtless for months or more. 😀😀 I can train anybody for this.

Nice information, will take care for sure. We are planning Ladhakh trip in middle of June this year starting from Udhampur to via Anantnag, Kargil then Leh - Ladhakh and return via Sarchu - Manali - Chandigarh then bike boarding into train. May i know that are we need to book stay well in advance at all places or we can get after reaching at particular destination at end of the day?? Thanks n Regards Jaipal Singh Rathore
Jaipal Ji, Julley, if you are open to search a bit upon reaching these places and also OK with staying at basic homestays/guesthouses then you can find them on the spot as well. It will need some search but you should find these. If you want to stay at hotels or have specific hotels in mind, then better book in advance because June is a very crazy time of tourist rush in Ladakh and most hotels/campsites are sold out.
One more clarification, we will stay at Anantnag first night at CRPF guesthouse, will it be ok staying at kargil on second night before reaching Leh or would you suggest any other place? Thanks n Regards
Very consise, brief and to the point information. Little funny too 😂😂😂 ( shirtless selfie) hahaha..lol. Expect to see such characters during my trip too… lol. But yes, these are commonly made mistakes which can be avoided for a smooth n enjoyable trip 😊👍🏻☺️
Well, glad that someone asked.. here is why: After traveling extensively in Himalayas for about 7-8 years (started in 2007-2008), I had to move to USA with family by end of 2015. Till then videos weren't that big of a thing. So all my experiences are written as travel tales on my blog devilonwheels.com and captured as pictures... Further, I am anyways an introvert/shy guy and it took 2 years to contemplate/procrastinate if I shall start my TH-cam channel or continue writing & serving via my travel blog only. Then when I finally decided, it took me 2 years to muster the courage to face the camera for an introvert like me with 100s of retires... By the time I recorded my first video, covid hit and I could not travel back to India for good amount. Last year when I visited, did sneak out for a short Lahaul trip and tried a version of vlog with lot of nervousness. Here is a that nervous attempt: th-cam.com/video/JJyu9jhwYKY/w-d-xo.html Now, I am trying to get more and more comfortable, plan is to come next year for a long long trip and shoot the entire vLog experience for good 20-30 days covering major parts of Himalayas (fingers crossed). It is a dream for now but slowly working towards making it a reality :) Till then sharing what all is there in my head and on my blog in written form :)
Awesome !! Nervous attempt wasn’t nervous at all 👍🏻 you hv a good command over language and fluency too. You shld definitely try ur hands on vlogging. Looking fwd to it 👍🏻😊☺️

Dheeraj ji thank you very much for your valuable informations. I want to visit ladakh with my wife n son(12yrs) on Puja vacation (October). Is it right time? What would be budget. I want to fly one side and seven days in my hand.
Hello bhai.. Well, I do not recommend traveling by road to Ladakh after middle of October from Manali Leh Highway. It becomes very cold and snowfall can get you stranded in the middle of nowhere without shelter and food. First two weeks of October is still fine but you should check the weather always before traveling. Since you want to fly in one way, are you OK to travel early in October or otherwise fly to Srinagar, take Srinagar to Leh and then do Ladakh trip. You can also fly both sides as well as you just have 7 days in hand.
Hello Dheeraj ji, it’s our 1st time driving to Zanskar valley, what type of oxygen cylinder do we have to carry as a precaution : would the 10liter can suffice or should we carry a proper 4-5 kgs medical oxygen cylinder with regulator and face mask
I think you will have to carry medical grade oxygen cylinder than can last like 2-3 hours in case of any emergency. If you are going via Leh, you can get that in Leh as well.
@@discoverwithdheeraj thanks bro : will be carrying 5kg 300 liters oxygen cylinder and 12 liters oxygen cans from Manali : appreciate your prompt response sir : stay blessed always
Bhai based on my limited knowledge in riding space (more of a driver I am 😂), Bonne t120 is a better motorcycle any day from int 650 due to its amazing power, quality, posture. Of course price differences is also there. Needless to say that Interceptor will do just fine or better than many others but when you are comparing these are my views. Again my brother in law is more of a rider and he owns an Interceptor, I just checked from his on his review of this too before posting
Hi i am planning a trip to ladak from Chandigarh Is it safe for women to travel there by themselves and can a woman drive on these roads with no prior experience at of hilly area drive?
Loveleen, Ladakh is pretty much safe to travel.. However, if you have never driven before in hills, this could be a challenging drive. Plus it also depend what kind of car are you taking.. I always suggest that one should have some experience of driving in hills before taking the roads in Ladakh and Manali Leh Highway...
Hello brother i am from delhi and me & my friends we are planning to go to hanle via delhi-manali on 22nd April 2023. Please let me know about road close or open status
Roads are not yet open from Manali and above all I never recommend planning Hanle from Manali side directly as your body won’t be acclimatised better for it.
Nice guidelines Mr. Dheeraj. Ask you one Q. Will you guide about taking certain medicine for AMS ? Here they say Tab. Diamox should be started 24 hours before reaching Leh and to be continued for 3 to4 days ,along with following 24 hours acclimatization will help . The medicine has got its own side effects . Pl comment .We are going to ladakh on 24 th september on flight to leh .
I always recommend that you check with a doctor before taking any medication suggested over Internet.. this medicine has side effects so make sure talk to doctor

Traffic sirf subah subah 7 AM to 830 AM hi allow hota hai aur LMVs/choti gaadiyaan allowed hain. cutoff time k baad bhi allow nahin hoga. 2. Even dates traffic allowed hota hai Srinagar se Kargil ki taraf, jaise kal 22 April ko hona chahiye.

Well from general safety wise never heard any untoward incidents up there for last 13-14 years, especially for any tourists. In general pretty safe and well general precautions always one need to take care
Yes, it will be best to avoid it for full trip, in case you really want to have it, may be when you are fully acclimatized and feeling 100% well and you are not at any high altitude passes or lakes or villages, may be you can try in moderation towards the end of trip, like winding off the trip in Leh or Manali at the end of it.

sir, you should plan your trip in reverse order, I mean you should go to ladakh via srinagar and return via manali. the reason being, the altitude gain via going through srinagar is gradual and the body acclimatizes well, however via manali, the altitude gain is rapid hence acclimatization is not good.
You can check my most common itinerary here: th-cam.com/video/4Se3aQfRovw/w-d-xo.html
Also the jacket I am wearing is of Brand name "Under Armour".

Absolutely but you can mitigate that as a foreigner by applying these permits through some travel agent as they can arrange it prior to you coming there.. it does not need to be like you need to book anything else or you need to travel with them.. even the hotels in Leh can arrange those permit in advance for you
You have mentioned "Principles of acclimatization" a few times, but what those principles are have been kept a mystery. Any reason why?

Great information!
Thank you!

Also May end I’ll be returning from Manali Leh highway. I hope it will be open for tourists by then
Dost hectic rahega waise. Better hai pehle din Turtuk Chale jaao aur wapisi mein Turtuk se Hunder/Diskit quick stop lete hue Pangong nikal jaana.
Manali Leh may open but 50:50 chance.
Julley dheeraj sir, sir what are the stay options on pangong - rezangla - hanle route ???
Rajiv bhai Julley, well you will find homestays/guest houses at Man-Merak Villages, then at Chusul Village, then Hanle.

It is a pleasure friend 🙏
No,I will not suggest going to sleep at Tso Kar on Day 3 itself.. better visit first Nubra and then travel to other places...

Bhai June you get some snow, September you get best conditions, beautiful colors and clean rivers

One more thing one should also avoid non-veg foods on high altitudes. I have seen how bad its hits
Why sir
@@divijbhatia4095 non veg is hard to digest on high altitudes. Best is fruits and salads with light veg food. Similarly alcohol is to be avoided.
Because of less oxygen level body organs does not perform fully hence digestion is affected.

Ha Ha, thanks a lot.. I have seen them in plenty but I hope more sense has prevailed over the years :D
Well, glad that someone asked.. here is why:
After traveling extensively in Himalayas for about 7-8 years (started in 2007-2008), I had to move to USA with family by end of 2015.
Here is a that nervous attempt: th-cam.com/video/JJyu9jhwYKY/w-d-xo.html
Now, I am trying to get more and more comfortable, plan is to come next year for a long long trip and shoot the entire vLog experience for good 20-30 days covering major parts of Himalayas (fingers crossed). It is a dream for now but slowly working towards making it a reality :)
Till then sharing what all is there in my head and on my blog in written form :)
Awesome !! Nervous attempt wasn’t nervous at all 👍🏻 you hv a good command over language and fluency too. You shld definitely try ur hands on vlogging. Looking fwd to it 👍🏻😊☺️

Hi i am planning a trip to ladak from Chandigarh
Is it safe for women to travel there by themselves and can a woman drive on these roads with no prior experience at of hilly area drive?
Very useful tips
thank you bhai!
Bhayya network ke bare me batao konsa best rahega
Jio Postpaid or BSNL postpaid
Pl suggest from where should i rent royal enfield himalayan if i opted to go leh from chandigarh or manali. Any suggestion would be very helpful
Better rent from chandigarh so that it gets allowed all the way to Leh then again in Leh rent one for Ladakh sightseeing.
@@discoverwithdheeraj any particular service provide which gives bike on rent in Chandigarh?
There are few but i dont have any references
Nice guidelines Mr. Dheeraj.
Ask you one Q.
Will you guide about taking certain medicine for AMS ? Here they say Tab. Diamox should be started 24 hours before reaching Leh and to be continued for 3 to4 days ,along with following 24 hours acclimatization will help .
The medicine has got its own side effects .
Pl comment .We are going to ladakh on 24 th september on flight to leh .
I always recommend that you check with a doctor before taking any medication suggested over Internet.. this medicine has side effects so make sure talk to doctor
Pl. suggest which mobile post paid Sim works good in and around leh ,ladakh .

One more nice informative video.....bro also tell the days open for light vehicle movement from srinagar to leh as sson as u get information abt that , as many times traffic is allowed on odd even formula..
Bhai abhi mujhe jitna pata hai usk accordingly
1. Odd Dates traffic allowed hai Kargil se Srinagar ki tarah, jaise 23 April ko hoga. Traffic sirf subah subah 7 AM to 830 AM hi allow hota hai aur LMVs/choti gaadiyaan allowed hain. cutoff time k baad bhi allow nahin hoga.
2. Even dates traffic allowed hota hai Srinagar se Kargil ki taraf, jaise kal 22 April ko hona chahiye.
Filhaal 2-3 din k liye Srinagar Leh road band hai Zojila par avalanches k baad
Thanks dear for details....also how one can enquire abt this movements of traffic before starting journey, any govt website or traffic helpline number???
bhai I generally get updates from the locals, you may leave a comment here and I can try to get latest.. else check for JK Traffic Police numbers.
Hi sir. Mai june me chandratal ja raha hu. So mai 1st day hi manali to chandratal travel kr skta hu kya

Well from general safety wise never heard any untoward incidents up there for last 13-14 years, especially for any tourists. In general pretty safe and well general precautions always one need to take care
Thanks
Excellent information
Glad it was helpful!
Thanku sir for information
Happy to help
Hi so we have to avoid alcohol through out the trip
Yes, it will be best to avoid it for full trip, in case you really want to have it, may be when you are fully acclimatized and feeling 100% well and you are not at any high altitude passes or lakes or villages, may be you can try in moderation towards the end of trip, like winding off the trip in Leh or Manali at the end of it.
Galti number 10
Waiting on passes for more than 15 minutes. Running, playing with snow all excited aur uske badh AMS ho jata hai 😅
Arrey how could i miss this one 😀😀.. absolutely something everyone should be aware.. thanks bhai 🙏
