One would think that Bedford, Virginia, would understand the importance of the American flag more than anyone. After all, the town lost more men on D-Day than any other town in the United States. On June 6, 1944, 19 young men from Bedford were killed in action, out of a population of just over 3,000. This staggering loss of life earned Bedford the nickname "The Town that cried over 91." The American flag is a symbol of the sacrifices that these men and all American soldiers have made to protect our freedom. It is a reminder of the ideals that we stand for, and the values that we hold dear. It is a symbol of hope and unity, and it should be treated with the utmost respect.

I fly two on my 49’ ford truck. I was told to remove them as they where considered “vehicle modifications”. Boy, did they shit their pants when I handed them dealer documentation from 1949 explaining that the flags came as a standard option on the truck. 😂
I was an Army recruiter for 7 years in our Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Indianapolis markets. Home schooled kids ALWAYS scored in the 90s on the ASVAB. Average high school kid probably scored in the 50s. Home schooling is an under-appreciated option…
These people in this school are the same people who are on the local HOA boards around the area. Power hungry Karens. God bless America I challenge all the other students to support this young patriot and fly flags on their own cars and trucks
If the school does not have a problem flying the flag on the pole and displaying it elsewhere what's the problem here. The logic of the school or board does not add up. Apparently someone objected or was offended, if so take down the other flags too.
Misguided patriotism is the problem. The flags are literally draped over a dirty toolbox and laying in the dirty pickup bed. Either raise the flags out of the bed or get smaller flags. I do support the kids right to fly his flags, but he has no rights as far as them laying in the bed of his truck as far as the US flag code is concerned. The schools reasoning is wrong is calling them a distraction. I'd have called him into the office and handed him the code and told him the way it is. Smaller flags or longer poles. People fly the flag, leave it up all night, do not illuminate it, let it drag on the ground and lay in truck beds. If you're going to fly it please read up on how to do it.
@@chilogutierrez8760 Yes, and as you say, the boy has a right to disrespect the flag, which he is doing here by flying it in violation of federal codes.
Skivvywaver, absolutely. I'm a Marine Corps disabled veteran, and I don't like nut jobs with our national ensign getting dirty in the bed of a pickup truck. They claim patriotism, they claim 1st amendment, what they need to do is learn how to take care of it. I sure hope Flag Etiquette is studied in home school. People, you can not just walk around and act a fool, then say Free Speech..have some maturity(mentally, emotionally, socially), speak coherently, challenge yourself, not everyone, hair doesn't make you a man, there's more to it.
The school is right. While on school property he could've put flag stickers, used smaller flags, etc & still shown his pride. What the parents are doing is silly. They're not anymore special than every single other American in this country. Including other service members/veteran
No. He is wrong. He signed a parking contract, which stated students were not allowed to fly large flags on their vehicles. He is in violation of the contract he signed.
The argument they should have used is the flags are not large, but they are average size. Since the wording is subjective the school would be on the defensive to defend their position. They would also be hard pressed to provide documentation to support the claims that large flags are a distraction.
The good news is that the kid is getting out of the mediocre school system. Khan academy is free. MIT has free online classes. And community college classes are available without a high school diploma.
I was a custodian at two Mpls, MN schools, people have no idea how many American flags we were asked to throw away each year by new teachers. I never did it, I put them back in the supplies room.
If that is their policy because they think it would be a driving distraction, ok, but I wonder if they would be as persistent if it was a gay pride flag.
First off you can fly the flag and public property whenever you want you can also park on public property you do not need a permit the schools public property those SOBs work for us not the other way around make them call the police because there is no crime
I can't believe this school administration has anything better to do than go through the parking lot and reprimand a child over flags covering a vehicle. I bet that had they been Ukrainian flags, or pride flags, we wouldn't even be seeing this news piece. Educators need to educate instead of violating first amendment rights.
I don't see how it's NOT a priority for school administration to enforce their code of conduct. Have you seen schools and the disrespect they deal with lately? Apparently from entire families.
@@jakfox44 I didn't realize school prioritized anything in the code of conduct in terms of enforcement. I couldn't even walk around with a shirt untucked when I was in school. Got called out on it everytime. Now... I also got called out if I cursed, or got in a fight. But I might have gotten detention or worse for those. So the punishments were prioritized a little differently. But this guy didn't get detention or anything. He was just asked to remove the flag so he and his mama threw a hissy fit.
@@saywhatnow57in 1969 the supreme court ruled that just because you're on school grounds doesn't mean you shed your first amendment right to freedom of speech and expression. inker v. Des Moines 1969.
@@jakfox44 That's a misunderstanding of 1st amendment rights though. They don't apply in matters of safety. I'm 100% positive that a school can make you do anything related to safety, which is an easy argument for them to make here. The flags are large. Maybe these particular flats aren't so huge they cause a problem. But you gotta allow them to draw a line somewhere if they consider it a safety issue. In certain conditions and at certain sizes they can easily obstruct a drivers view, or distract other drivers simply because of their size. A lot of these kids are flying them off the back of their trucks, which is even worse. You might not agree with that, but it's an argument they can make. Maybe they've had the problem before. Maybe these huge flags have gotten out of hand in some schools, causing the parking lots to be a little chaotic. To suggest their intent is to suppress freedom of patriotism in a rural Virginia high school parking lot is laughable.

Probably wouldn't have said anything if it was a rainbow flag.
It said any flag so they probably would
The school is so wrong.
Hey Kid put a bigger pole in the back of the truck to fly a bigger flag.
America !!!🇺🇸
The schoolboard members the schoolboard chairperson and the principal and teachers are paranoid.
Vote them out of office
I hope the family gets to keep their school tax dollars! Since they're home schooling him.
Test out their talking point. Drive to that school with big LGBT flags and see if you're told to take them down.
They would give you front row parking and not have any problem with it. That's the America we live in now Sad
Robert E Lee is rolling in his grave right now that his state is being this disgraceful. The South needs to rise again.
😂 flying the American flag on an import CLOWN
That Toyota Tacoma was built in San Antonio Texas, dummy.
Sue everybody .............
These people in this school are the same people who are on the local HOA boards around the area. Power hungry Karens. God bless America
I challenge all the other students to support this young patriot and fly flags on their own cars and trucks
If the school does not have a problem flying the flag on the pole and displaying it elsewhere what's the problem here. The logic of the school or board does not add up. Apparently someone objected or was offended, if so take down the other flags too.
Every parent in that school should pull out their kids just for 1 week. That will leave a huge hole in their budget.
He has a right to fly his flags. ❤
It’s called the first amendment. Us flag code only is really applicable to those in govt. Because Inhave the RIgHT to do as I please with MY flag
Cry me a river softie
@chilogutierrez8760 You can't wear bright hair dye, have facial hair, have long hair if you play sports (male). It's been that way for years.
That's shameful for anybody to tell somebody not to fly the flag when they got one already on the property That's pitiful.
We need to get rid of teachers' unions
Every parent should pull their kids out..
I don’t understand. I’ve seen people flying all kinds of flags and it’s not a big deal. The school is wrong!
Stupidity...That's about it...The ones who are against flying the flag are really butthurt over this.. Mental defectives basically..
The school is right. While on school property he could've put flag stickers, used smaller flags, etc & still shown his pride. What the parents are doing is silly. They're not anymore special than every single other American in this country. Including other service members/veteran
As you have stated, you simply don't understand. At least you admitted it.
No. He is wrong. He signed a parking contract, which stated students were not allowed to fly large flags on their vehicles. He is in violation of the contract he signed.
I am not an American but I believe the mother is doing the right thing. If you cannot fly your countries flag something is missing in translation.
Every student needs to drive to school with those wee US flags and US Flag clothing.
Flying the flag is no longer a symbol of patriotism; it's a symbol of hate. Trump deserves the credit for that.
When your mom looks the same age as you.
The flag isn't even that large this shouldn't be a problem unless it's just an excuse
If he had a pride flag hanging off his truck, they never would’ve said a word.
The argument they should have used is the flags are not large, but they are average size. Since the wording is subjective the school would be on the defensive to defend their position. They would also be hard pressed to provide documentation to support the claims that large flags are a distraction.
I'm surprised the community puts up with it. I used to be a health inspector for that area and the people there are very patriotic.
I agree that he should display more care over how the flag is caried and displayed. Hopefully he will learn that..
...and display it within the parameters allowed by the rules, rather than making a big scene and egotistical bid for attention.
The good news is that the kid is getting out of the mediocre school system.
Khan academy is free. MIT has free online classes. And community college classes are available without a high school diploma.
time to define " large flag vs small flag "
I was a custodian at two Mpls, MN schools, people have no idea how many American flags we were asked to throw away each year by new teachers. I never did it, I put them back in the supplies room.
I can't believe teachers asked you to do that.
@@robertknight4672 then you need to come see what is happening in intercities with the liberal leadership.
If that is their policy because they think it would be a driving distraction, ok, but I wonder if they would be as persistent if it was a gay pride flag.
There is no distinction. Flags and banners are not allowed. So you can stop "wondering" now.
@@saywhatnow57 the priority of the code of conduct is monitoring vehicles in a parking lot then the code of conduct needs to be reassessed
He is disrespecting the flag by how he displays it. But whatever. Homeschool and be happy.
Of course, a woman wrote this 😂
American flags on a Japanese pickup. Are we missing the irony here? Wouldn’t a true patriot Java a Ford, Chevy one Dodge?
Paint your truck with the red white and blue then see what they say they make up a new rule
Do they not know about the like story and law suit for violation of 1st A?
This no different than the school who objected to the student having a Gadsden Flag on his backpack. The school who made the stink HAD TO backdown !!
Distraction to who?
Illegal immigrants
I want to see where homeschooling this kid ends up in 5 years....
McDonald's
I don't. We can already pretty much predict how it turns out.
MOS 11B
Better than being brainwashed by lib teachers to hate his own kind.
He will be better off than those who are taught by the school system to hate their fellow ▫️s.
Honestly, I love the flag, but having on your car driving around like this everyday is dumb and distracting
If it was a rainbow flag what would happen?
You mean two big pride flags 😆
Screw that. Good for them.. America 🇺🇸
