Milorganite is the shit!, No really, genuine Milwaukee shit. And boy does it work. Not selective though, makes everything grow. Prepare to mow, mow, mow, and hand-pick weeds if you have them.
I just rented a Bobcat... my friend helped me dig out 8 inches of my soil... we filled the void back up with 477 bags of Milorganite... we then planted Kentucky Bluegrass, Rye, & Fescue... so far so good!
You're not adding enough. I order a whole truckload of this stuff and dump it on the yard so that you won't be able to see the grass for the next 15 years.
It can be exhausting being a home owner but if you do subtle updates and changes in 10 to 20 years the yard, the house really reflects the extra work. I have watched your videos before and really enjoy your kids coming to check things out when they stroll past the screen. Someday they will have to take care of their own "ranch" and calling Dad for advice!
so far this is the best stuff for my lawn. i put it everywhere shrubs trees containers. wont burn grass. just dont use it on sick trees or weak shrubs etc. established only. my routine is to spread it just bedore a rainy day here in cent fl.
Manufacturer recommendation is application of 4x per year. While applying weekly, will not harm your yard as stated in the video due to low Nitrogen content, you will begin to get an abundance of Phosphorus levels to the soil. Excessive Phosphorus levels reduces the lawn's ability to take up iron...which is the greening component you're getting out of the product. Not to mention the excessive cost you're accruing with overapplication....why would you be applying this weekly?
I have 1/3 acre and I put down 2 full bags at a 9 setting every third week. Keeps the lawn lush and dark green all summer. I havent had great luck with the heavy application....didnt notice better results here in Chicago.
I have baby grass!!! my lawn is turning out amazing and I am also out at night staring at my grass waiting for it to grow my neigbors call me the water boy!! keep the videos coming your doing a great job!
I was gone for 6 months from July to February and needless to say I thought it would take me all summer to get my grass back in shape. One application of this stuff and my neighbors are already giving me the “wow, your lawn looks great” comments. This product is like Chilean Seabass for your lawn!!
Get ready to mow! You're going to get heavy top growth. It may be slow release feeding, but N will get used as it becomes available. Since you have high maintenance KYB, a heavy dew will have the turf on an every other day mow. If the season turns wet, you're going to need a grounds crew or brush mower to keep up!
Yeah, like what. Looks like the plow went 6 feet into the yard and he used some cheap seed to try to fix. But benefit of the doubt I'll check a more recent vid
A couple of weeks ago I was in. Big Box store, $1.00 a bag, not selling it any longer, had them load to pallet on my pickup, scored. My use will be in my chips, as here in AZ we need organic matter to go with our gumbo clay. Using Tigersol with it, so far so good, the cover crops look dark so the C/N ratios seem to work.
FYI - this is a new KBG renovation, parts look ugly because they were seeded recently. You cant spray weeds until the new grass is mature. its OK, soon it will all be good =P
I found that applying at the "recommended" rate, it had little to no effect on the lawn. After a little experimentation, I found that applying a first application on setting 11 in one direction, followed by a second application on setting 11 in the opposite direction was the key for my lawn. Keep up the hard work, because the KBG stand will be worth it.
Love your vids and the attachment you have with my beloved Milorganite. Here in Milwaukee we can get it on sale at 5 for $30 and dump it on down. My best defense for weeds is a thick lawn where weeds struggle to get a foothold. I use my Scotts spreader at max setting as well. You literally cant over-apply it. Just makes the grass darker green and thicker. I love the fact that I can broadcast it right into my flower and vegetable gardens and never have to worry about burn. Thanks for your enthusiasm. (hope I spelled that right)..... Cheers!
I put 3 bags down every other week. For $5 a bag vs Scott’s fertilizer it’s a win for me. Now I apply it before a light rain and if I don’t get to mow it. I have to invest into livestock.
Urea _can_ volatilize (some portion of it turns into ammonia gas) when if gets damp and sits on the surface of the soil. With urea, the trick to avoiding volatilisation losses is to spread it just before it rains so the urea dissolves and infiltrates into the soil. A better form of urea to use is urea formaldehyde. It's a slow release form of urea that is water insoluble and relies on microbial activity to release the nitrogen in it in a form that plants can use. Because microbial activity is highest at about the same time that plant growth is at its most vigorous, the nitrogen from urea formaldehyde gets released right when your plants need it most, and that ensures that very little of your nitrogen is lost to volatilisation and runoff. That keeps environmental problems associated with fertilizer use to a minimum and it also means that a much larger proportion of the nitrogen you put out actually gets used by the plants you're targeting.
When they say "slow release" they mean it. I put my Milo down 3 weeks ago and JUST now seeing results. Very dark green though! Worth the wait plus microbial bonus.
It will release the iron and nitrogen in part as soon as it is wet the first time. the part that is years is that it made from composed plant matter so unlike synthetics that only last a few months M will have a effect that can last up to 2 years. See the effect is is micro organisms that are alive in the soil . M will not kill then as the synthetic fert will. But do not take my word for it. go get a gallon of water split it into to equal parts and put two table spoons of any synthetic fert into one container and m in the other then put a dozen worms in each for 30 min then dump the water off. putting the worms into separate observation containers. 100% of the worms from the Synthetic fer should die within hours while the worms from M should be fine. now my point to this is the soil needs living organisms to be healthy soil. so you can now see which one will be healthy. Milo is slow release ,,, Al tho if you irrigate you can see a noticeable greener lawn the next day. I recommend Milo to all that want a green healthy lawn. But I have only been in lawn care since 1976.
ROYAL LAWN CARE - You say that the M is based on plant matter ... it's really a byproduct of the Milwaukee County Sewage district. A great product but it is pelleted humanure.
LOL...I can't believe the timeliness of your videos! I sharpened mower blades past weekend after seeing your video how to sharpen the mower blades last week and this week will apply milorganite to the lawn with less worry...had milorganite sitting around for about two weeks worrying about how much milorganite to put on the lawn and what kind of spreader to use, etc. and adding Epsom salt too! thanks for your helpful videos!
Grass Daddy You were doing so well and then admit to slopping it around and spilling! Tsk tsk tsk... At least you just have patches on steroids instead of burnt out blast holes from the the usual high nitrogen stuff.😂 I can tell!
Moved into our new home a couple of months ago and now that the grass is starting to green, I am trying this product for the first time. Set my dial to 13, so hopefully in a few weeks I'll follow up with how it's greening up. Fingers crossed. Awesome vid by the way.
Awesome! Just realize the first time you might see white fuzzy stuff the next day.. This is normal, the bacteria in the soil have a little frenzy but it's the good bacteria that you want.
Nice video, IMO going by the guidelines on the bag does not mean people are putting it down wrong, and increasing your spreader setting to the max doesn't mean you're doing it right. It can't hurt the lawn but for people with bigger yards will be spending more. I learned from LCN to go by "pounds on the ground". Use the square footage of the yard to determine how many pounds to put down..now your going by your own guidelines :)
yeah I don't see how people compare organics to synthetics and then complain that organics are just hype when they don't even use the organics correctly. If their soil is dead, organics are going to work very slowly, unless they use compost teas or mycorrhizae on the lawn also. synthetics are good if you want to constantly have issues you have to buy something to fix it with.... I never have disease or deficiency issues in the areas where I practice good soil care
This stuff does work but like you said, needs to be put down super heavy. Get ready for the smell and flies for a week or so! Milo and Scotts products is the only things that goes on my lawn.
I have been putting down milorganite monthly from April - November for the last two years. Has worked great for me so far. I also go a little heavy each time. 👍🏼
LOL, We had a Ford Windstar for a few years and I loved it. Hauled a ton of stuff in it. I would rather have a minivan than a crossover or compact SUV.
i have corvettes, had a69z28 camaro , a 68firebird with a big block chevy motor, a few rail buggies and quite a few other nice cars, and the vehicle i liked the most was our 1996 ply voyager sport! man i miss that thing!
This is great! You are and I are so alike when it comes to Milorganite. I put down 2-3 bags just on the front alone. My grass always looks like a golf course. I do this many times a month too. Unfortunately, everyone is discovering this product and it's hard to find in stock around here. Price wise, it's one of the cheaper organic fertilizers and better. We've also learned that the DEER do not like it after you put it down. However, it doesn't keep the deer away forever.
Glad you posted that...I wasn't going to be a troll, but I did see a lot of weeds in the lawn that were about to be very well fed! My lawn was (still is) much much worse. As I write this my lawn is pretty much 100% brown and dead because I nuked it. If this weekend goes well, I'll have my soil test results, Miss Utility will have everything flagged and marked for safety, and I'll be renting a sod cutter and removing about the top inch of soil from may lawn, tilling the soil, then fixing the grade and leveling my lawn, putting down a starter fertilizer (and probably lime) and putting down Zenith Zoysia seed and hoping I get good results.
I thought I was only going to use one bag between my front and backyard, and I ended up using two with the recommended settings... This crap (literally) spreads crazy fast. I also did a synthetic two weeks before putting Milo down so we'll see how deep and green everything gets.
Soooo I tried applying with my spreader at 11.5 and I was nearly all out after going 10 feet. So I did 5.5 with 2 passes. How are you turning your spreader to 15-16 and not having it all fall out?
Just getting started. First I got the idea that it was to be spread 4 times a year. Then The Lawn Care Nut suggested every 5 weeks. Now you are introducing weekly. I love it. I am in the Miami area and I find this is getting expensive. Any alternatives, or this is The One? Oh, and I appreciate your videos very much, thumbs up!
I use this stuff for my lawn.... to keep the kids in the neighborhood away because it smells like poop after rain or watering! Helps my grass grow too so that's a bonus!
It is poop. Do you know what kind of poo? Do you want to know what kind of poo? If not stop reading now. OK, You Have Been Warned. It's sewage sludge from the Milwaukee Metro Sewerage District. Mil - Milwaukee, Org - Organtic, Nite - Nitrogen. Enjoy the smell!!
And it also contains the other shit people piss and shit and dump in the sewage... pharmaceuticals, heavy metals like Lead and cadmium, in low quantities sure... but, which only accumulate with every heavy application people have been so marketed to apply to help Milwaukee rid itself of their waste at your family's ignorant expense...
I ran a sanitary district for 18 years and I know all too well what it is. Most processed sewage is used for tree farms and non-food crops fertilizer. Calling it "microbes" and organic is pure marketing crap.
Agree, and Milwaukee residents thank all of you for buying their sewage residue (Milorganite) so they don't have to landfill it. All the stuff that goes down Milwaukee's toilets and street drains gets dried, burned, pelletized, and packaged nicely (with a few nutrients added to boost the NPK) for you to spread in your yard. Pure marketing genius.
It's a slow release organic fertilizer, to burn the lawn you would have to have put down an immense amount of it and it would have taken longer. I would look into grubs/chinch bugs and irrigation issues, those could have a reaction within weeks
I sowed new seed about 5-6 weeks ago, along with a starter fertilizer. It is looking very good now and I have cut the new grass one time so far. I bought some Milo and was planning to use it but should I use a starter fertilizer again or go with the Milo?
+Gixer750pilot haha yeah I'm not so good at coming up with catchy phrases I'm too busy staring at the lawn waiting for it to grow so I can mow again =P
The problem is if you put down more, you will stink up the whole street and you neighbors will walk out of their house and say "What the hell is that smell?" I also notice a layer of slims builds up if you put too much down in one application.
Maybe that will make them walk their dogs done where else and stop them from letting their dogs shit/pee in my lawn, burning up my grass .....#lazyasses
I live in Utah where the summers are hot and very dry. Milorganite really gives my grass a boost when my lawn starts to suffer from the strains of heat. It helps it grow faster which means I raise my mower blade to help retain moisture in my lawn which keeps it looking healthy and happy. And I agree, apply liberally. It won’t burn your grass and your kids and pets are safe around it. Love this stuff!
Read the label. Your kids are playing on heavy metals like cadmium and zinc. Once you put it down, it's there forever. You are poisoning your topsoil and your kids. Have a nice day.
Throw in a couple Japanese hollies near the foundation so your house doesn't look like you just moved in. Weed and feed too and your place will look great!
you make me hahahaha and your video makes my day. Just make sure you sweep your concrete patio or driveway. Iron is leaving corrosion marks. This happen to me.
MyNameIsMud I don’t think putting fertilizers and taking care of you’re lawn is a waste of time nor money! A lush green lawn is the best accessory to any house
The stuff makes the grass like being on steroids! A few years back when I used it, my yard was so thick and plush and the following years, I could never find it again locally, til this year! It's going to be a good year! :D
Good video but some states have fertilizer laws of how much fertilizer can be applied per app and season. Next will probably be laws what time of day or days you can cut your lawn. Dam Libs..I say put down what is needed to achieve the results you want to achieve.
Mr Efficiency yup I'm told when I can water.. even if I had one of those super efficient smart controllers it wouldnt matter because I can only water when they allow lol so the whole town waters whether it is needed or not when its their time.
Not “dam libs”, it’s because of idiots like this using way too much fertilizer. Too many morons abuse these things which in turn get them regulated, even in “red”states. Overuse of fertilizers can lead to it getting into the water tables and screws up ecosystems which kill fish and wildlife all because some dumbass wants to get some views on TH-cam.
HomesliceDrummer nitrogen is nitrogen, too much of it not good your grass/plants, dumbass. And there is not just nitrogen in milo, there is also phosphorus, in high amounts can also be a problem, DUMBASS.
HomesliceDrummer bag rate is almost 1 pound of nitrogen per 1,000 sqft. Just by doubling bag rate puts you at 2 pounds per 1k sqft. Putting down more nitrogen then the plant needs, even organic is stupid. It is not only wasteful but can cause other problems including the plant not being able to absorb other vital nutrients, excessive top growth, and leaching from the soil into waterways just cause it doesn’t burn doesn’t mean it’s ok to overuse DUMBASS
I just spread Milorganite down last week over a lawn that has lots of new grass. First I let it grow a little tall. Then I cut it down and spread it. This was just after memorial day. I thought about spreading some Scotts starter fertilizer to feed the roots around the 4th of July. Maybe it's better to spread Milorganite again. What do you think.
Milorganite is made from human waste via waste water. Animals smell other species piss. Use Earthworks instead and that won't happen. OR just make sure you're not over applying as this video suggests.
You can put milorganite down at setting #15 if you have a regular size lawn, but if you have 3 acres to fertilize that would quite expensive for me to do.
I have a standard feeding regime of 10-0-20 per my soil sample results. Can Milorganite be used IN PLACE of my regular fert or can I combine it my regular fert?

Wow! What an afternon that lawn of yours! Looks beautiful.
How many weeks did you start to see results?
@@carrillo1228 it's organic material so it depends on the weather.. when it's warm you'll see in a few weeks if it's cold longer
Legend has it that he's still applying his first application ever of milorganite to this day......
I just rented a Bobcat... my friend helped me dig out 8 inches of my soil... we filled the void back up with 477 bags of Milorganite... we then planted Kentucky Bluegrass, Rye, & Fescue... so far so good!
You're not adding enough. I order a whole truckload of this stuff and dump it on the yard so that you won't be able to see the grass for the next 15 years.
lol
Love it
You'll probably get grass blades the size of trees...
Sulfen Hahahaha
That's still not enough
It can be exhausting being a home owner but if you do subtle updates and changes in 10 to 20 years the yard, the house really reflects the extra work. I have watched your videos before and really enjoy your kids coming to check things out when they stroll past the screen. Someday they will have to take care of their own "ranch" and calling Dad for advice!
i can smell it through the screen
Such an awesome smell. Smells like victory
Smells like success
Smells like shit
so far this is the best stuff for my lawn. i put it everywhere shrubs trees containers. wont burn grass. just dont use it on sick trees or weak shrubs etc. established only. my routine is to spread it just bedore a rainy day here in cent fl.
That yard needs a stimulus check lol 😂

I agree with this video. As a rule of thumb, I *always* apply Milorganite to heavy metal.
Phil Gervasi blood makes the grass grows
"throw her down" ooops wrong channel. lol lol Love your videos as well as lawn nut.

Finally a video that is informative and with hilarious comments Thank you!

I love Milorganite but it always smells like I have a sewer on my lawn. Grass is really great with it though.
I had a thin non growing front yard and this stuff completely transformed it. It r really seems to be a great product. Put it down thick.
If my yard looked that bad with all of the bare spots and uneven grass I sure wouldn't be giving advice about how to have a nice yard
Watch a recent video to see what all that milorganite did ;)
Thanks for staying positive with your replies grass daddy
This stuff does work but like you said, needs to be put down super heavy. Get ready for the smell and flies for a week or so! Milo and Scotts products is the only things that goes on my lawn.

With all that milorganite, your weed patch must have looked fantastic.
The grass can overcome the weeds with this much.

Dude listens to metal and has a mini van parked out front 😂
Nothing says metal more spreading lawn fert, minivans and suburbia.

It's a marathon, not a sprint
I thought I was only going to use one bag between my front and backyard, and I ended up using two with the recommended settings...
This crap (literally) spreads crazy fast. I also did a synthetic two weeks before putting Milo down so we'll see how deep and green everything gets.
How's it working for you?
@@RealCptHammonds eh... personally I didn't see big results. But my grass was nice and green for much longer than usual. Milo is super slow release.
Soooo I tried applying with my spreader at 11.5 and I was nearly all out after going 10 feet. So I did 5.5 with 2 passes. How are you turning your spreader to 15-16 and not having it all fall out?
Walk faster
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one to read the label and think "yeah whatever...watch this!"
A lot of people don't notice the "Two passes" as well.
very true!!
Well I do it weekly when trying to get it to fill in but then monthly once it's good. If it's expensive you can supplement with synthetics though!
Watch a recent video to see how thick and awesome it made my lawn!
where is the link
Noted. About to throw down tomorrow and looking forward to it
Phew! I can smell it from here!
Apply during a light morning shower for full smell effect =P
Pure marketing genius.
there's the intelligence... thank you!
Grass Daddy rocks the jams and throws down on some milorganite. Great job. The info I was looking for.
I just used it for the first time, and for some reason my yard smells like a porta potty in Milwaukee…
It's miller time!
Mack Daddy m
I put this product I believe it Brunt my grass I Saw a segment about on U tube about putting it every 2weeks and I did and my grass turn brown
It's a slow release organic fertilizer, to burn the lawn you would have to have put down an immense amount of it and it would have taken longer. I would look into grubs/chinch bugs and irrigation issues, those could have a reaction within weeks
@@GrassDaddy thank u so much
This stuff is magical, my second season using it can't wait to dominate my neighbors. ....!!!!!!!
creole cuzin yeah it's awesome and such an easy thing to make your lawn stand out lol
Milwaukee residents are going to have to step up their food consumption to keep up with the demand for my lawn.
Yeah! C'mon guys keep producing for us!
lollll
I just found your channel from the LCN and love it! The spreader setting sequence was hilarious. SUBSCRIBED!
Awesome!! I don't do as awesome editing as he does but I sure enjoy playing in the lawn ;-)
I sowed new seed about 5-6 weeks ago, along with a starter fertilizer. It is looking very good now and I have cut the new grass one time so far. I bought some Milo and was planning to use it but should I use a starter fertilizer again or go with the Milo?
Milo
Great video !!! Great music . The lawn is really starting to bloom! You are gonna dominate , thrower down !!!! Oops wrong guy sorry
+Gixer750pilot haha yeah I'm not so good at coming up with catchy phrases I'm too busy staring at the lawn waiting for it to grow so I can mow again =P
I love LCN Allyn Hane. Right on, brother.
Lol love LCN
Who did the music?
The problem is if you put down more, you will stink up the whole street and you neighbors will walk out of their house and say "What the hell is that smell?" I also notice a layer of slims builds up if you put too much down in one application.
Fuck the neighbors. Haha
Maybe that will make them walk their dogs done where else and stop them from letting their dogs shit/pee in my lawn, burning up my grass .....#lazyasses
Unfortunately, dogs love the smell of milorganite and will want to come on your yard to eat it.
Yeah my buddy puts it down on his clients lawns for summer too!
Read the label. Your kids are playing on heavy metals like cadmium and zinc. Once you put it down, it's there forever. You are poisoning your topsoil and your kids. Have a nice day.
This grass needs much more than milorgainate...
I did exactly that and my lawn turned gray , I used milorgnite “commercial one” now I’m trying to find out what I can do to revive it!
How that happen stuff foolproof. Use setting prescribed. Good 4 laugh but that joker aint gettin near my properties
Love the smell in the morning after a good watering 🤮
Haha yeah buddy
🤣💩
Throw in a couple Japanese hollies near the foundation so your house doesn't look like you just moved in. Weed and feed too and your place will look great!
if you do the math it should be put down at 14.4 lbs per 1000sqft which I round up to 15

When do I water or do I add water when applying milorganite
you make me hahahaha and your video makes my day. Just make sure you sweep your concrete patio or driveway. Iron is leaving corrosion marks. This happen to me.
Good point! We don't have any concrete here so I haven't had to think about it
What does you make me mean?
Scott Stewart is my English bothering you?
I wish bluegrass would grow in Texas, I love the way it looks. don't get me wrong I live my Bermuda also, but I think bluegrass just looks killer
yeah it's pretty amazing I can't imagine having a different lawn type honestly lol my old lawn used to look nice but now I'll frown on those memories!
1st time to use Milorganite today.... I went heavy!
I hope you played heavy metal while doing it!!
Did it work?
The tune goes well with the bumpy road
My neighbors hate when I put milo down! Bahahhahaahhaahaha
Mine know if they complain I'll just spray liquid fish fertilizer and really stink up the neighborhood! =P
My wife says it's a waste of money. "It's just grass."
MyNameIsMud I don’t think putting fertilizers and taking care of you’re lawn is a waste of time nor money! A lush green lawn is the best accessory to any house
@@GrassDaddy my wife aays that too. When we sell ill make sure to have the realtor note that we can get $5k more because of our lawn.
I just added a bag of morganite on memorial day weekend is it OK to do it again now
Too many grass clumps and dirt bumps, if you top dress it would look really good.
the milorganite got it to all fill in nicely, no bare spots now ;-)
The stuff makes the grass like being on steroids! A few years back when I used it, my yard was so thick and plush and the following years, I could never find it again locally, til this year! It's going to be a good year! :D
Just found some recently. I'm excited! Never thought I'd be so happy to find some fertilizer lol
HomesliceDrummer the source of nitrogen doesn’t matter...nitrogen is nitrogen. Organic or synthetic in lakes and streams is bad news...
Every spring ill topdress my lawn with milorganite! Work great every year!
It really does work great, I was always thinking it was just hype but I use it a lot now
haha im hooked on the stuff
The music. 😂😂
Thanks for watching!
Wow. By the look of that yard I'm pretty sure I'm going to take the bags advice
There's no such thing as too much Milorganite!
kchall5 no way!
kchall5 actually I simmered it down last memorial day since I went synthetic & non synthetic
snatale - checked out Earthworks. Looks legit but sold in very limited locations. Any retail stores selling it you know of?
Look for a Site One in your area
you got that right,,mine looks like a photo out of better homes and gardens,,,
I just spread Milorganite down last week over a lawn that has lots of new grass. First I let it grow a little tall. Then I cut it down and spread it. This was just after memorial day. I thought about spreading some Scotts starter fertilizer to feed the roots around the 4th of July. Maybe it's better to spread Milorganite again. What do you think.
+runrun411 I would do the starter now if your soil needs the extra P-K. July depending on your temps might be too hot for synthetic
Can I still add milorganite to my lawn even if I have people like tru green treat my lawn?
Yes, since it's a natural fertilizer and no chemicals it won't have a bad effect.
Grass Daddy awesome thanks for the advice brother! Keep up the awesome work !
Do your self a favor buddy , fire they ass Trump style and give your own lawn the attention it needs...
My Kentucky bluegrass always turns yellow when I apply a bunch of milorganite.
I Don't Know Bro, When I Do This It Attracts Every Form Of Wildlife In My Area For Some Reason. Mainly Crows Skunks & Racoon.
Haha that's crazy
Milorganite is made from human waste via waste water. Animals smell other species piss. Use Earthworks instead and that won't happen. OR just make sure you're not over applying as this video suggests.
You can put milorganite down at setting #15 if you have a regular size lawn, but if you have 3 acres to fertilize that would quite expensive for me to do.
+Alex A yeah youll want to use urea hehe
That's a lot of crap on ur lawn lol
CC CC as long as it isn't dog's
I have a huge yard and backyard. To do that would cost like $300 an application
I have a standard feeding regime of 10-0-20 per my soil sample results. Can Milorganite be used IN PLACE of my regular fert or can I combine it my regular fert?
