    Tried Milorganite the first year at my current house (3yrs ago) and had good results. The next year I was talked into trying some basic 10-10-10 but really wasn't happy with the results. Last year I tried some 24-0-11 after it was recommended but the yard was a mess most of the year and I got pretty frustrated with it. This year... back to Milorganite because this stuff is AWESOME. So easy to use, makes the yard look so nice. Not letting anyone talk me out of using it again!

    • @JealousLawnCare
      @JealousLawnCare  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tony Peters -- yep I'm very surprised they don't recommend a monthly application since it shows better results than the recommended 4x per the bag.
      Maybe because if they recommend monthly people would be turned off because most think that's too much especially compared to other fertilizers.
      Also Milorganite is already tough to find in stock, if people went to monthly we would really be in trouble! Lol

    Love the comparisons, I am always "over fertilizing" with milorganite, and have been happy with results. I do not have Kentucky bluegrass as I do not live in an area that it is beneficial (hard to maintain) but I can vouch that for your typical ryegrass and fescue mix, that going about 2-3 week for application has been beneficial. I love this "crap"

    Last year, I used four (4) bags of Milo and a 50# bag of synthetic 16-6-16 to balance out the lack of (K) in the Bio-Solids. People commented that the grass looks great compared to other properties in the community. My yard is very large and would cost me a fortune to use bag rate or the stuff LCN promotes.

    • @JealousLawnCare
      @JealousLawnCare  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      heavymechanic2 -- that's great support to hear! Yes Milorganite alone is not enough because as you mentioned you still need to add K also, sounds like you know your stuff! Lcn now has fertilizer restrictions in FL therefore he has use to alternatives and that's always more expensive.

    Yes, I do appreciate this exhaustive test video. I'm in Stickney, IL (borders on Berwyn, too. )which borders on Chicago. My lawn was great with synthetics for 30 years. Then I started having problems with fungus. I watered mornings. I did a soil test and zero phosphates. Probably because the middle number is no longer on fertilizer bags to save the environment, phosphates. My lawn looked weak. Since you are so close to me, you must have had similar weather. So, milorganite should solve my fungus problems. I'll try to give you f/b at the end of summer 2019. A soil test would be interesting to see. I've never seen milorganite in the store. Where do you buy it? They must come in different size bags, so could you give me a price for a certain size bag. Again, an excellent test video.

    • @JealousLawnCare
      @JealousLawnCare  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Joe Shunka -- you might want to put down a preventative application of Scott's lawn fungus control (i do this most years and feel it helps, or at least gives me peace of mind).
      Milorganite is sold at Ace, Home Depot and Menards. Usually $8-10 for the 2500 sqft bag. I believe This is the only size available anywhere.

    • @JealousLawnCare
      @JealousLawnCare  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically you can put the Milorganite down at the same time and it will slowly release the fertilizer as needed. Personally I would probably wait 2 weeks, but no need to. The Milorganite will start helping with the dark green grass due to the iron as well.

    • @darylbeebe6517
      @darylbeebe6517 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for the follow up. I am waiting on my lawn company to come and aerate the lawn before I put the feterlizer down. What are your thoughts on aerating? My grass looks much better than it did when I asked the guy to aerate. Let me know your thoughts.

    • @JealousLawnCare
      @JealousLawnCare  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Daryl Beebe -- aeration in spring is a little tough imo, because you never want to aerate when the the ground is too wet due to spring rain. Personally I like to aerate in fall, then I can overseed also without having to time it right with hot weather and weed / Crabgrass pre-emergents. Spring aeration just seems much harder to time correctly, but it's definitely good to do annually.

    Hi. My lawn has a 20ft by 20ft spot that is very dry as it is full sun and highest spot on the lawn. I am able to easily get down to about 2-3in and then it’s hard and possibly clay. Grass dies by end of summer unless i water everyday. My plan ... put down Liquid Aerating Soil Loosener- Aerator Soil Conditioner to make soil softer, core aerate, overseed and top dress with soil 1 week after, then right after core aeration add milorganite mixed with The Andersons Organic Humic DG. Thoughts?

    Milorganite website FAQ section- What if I apply too much milorganite? A: Milorganite's salt-free formula won't burn your lawn, however your lawn can only take up so many nutrients. Milorganite's application rates and schedule are based on university research, which study the amount and frequency of nutrients needed for a healthy lawn. We caution that over fertilization can result in nutrient runoff into waterways resulting in serious environmental issues. For a healthy lawn, we recommend following good lawn care practices such as the recommend fertilization schedule and rates, proper mowing, aerating, and overseeding.

      zulaika glynn -- fertilizer should not burn this or the rebel seed, the best way to apply would be to spread the seed first and then go and spread the fertilizer. If it's grubs you should be able to pull up the grass like carpet (because the roots are eaten). If it pulls up easy then it's grubs. Did that work or something different?

    Hi. New home owner here and lawn care guy as well. I installed some new sod to my entire backyard approx. 1 month ago. My front yard is existing struggling grass still. After looking around online and with some friends, I decided to try Milorganite. I just did my 1st treatment of Milo today to the front yard and will be doing my back yard tomorrow. Question is: is is beneficial to water the yards post treatment (24 hrs later) or not? I know they say it doesn't need water, but what are yalls thoughts on watering after applications? Thanks

    • @JealousLawnCare
      @JealousLawnCare  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would recommend just taking it easy and letting mother nature water for you. Plan the applications of Milorganite just before a rain (not a big storm of course or it may wash away).
      It depends if you need the fertilizer to act a little quicker or not, but typically I don't water specifically for Milorganite applications.
      Congrats on your new house also!!

    Hi JLC, no expert but I think the greener area may have been trigger not because of the extra N added on the weekly application but for the extra Iron added. Why the bi-weekly wasn't darker than the monthly, don't know.

    • @JealousLawnCare
      @JealousLawnCare  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eduardo Sanchez -- this definitely could be a factor, especially in the longer term. Very much agree! That's why I feel my front is as green as possible, because I use Milorganite often on my front and a little less on my back.

  • @stevenmorris204

    Seems to me that when you feed the soil , then the soil knows to only deliver nutrients when the grass "asks" for the nutrition. Malorganite may be feeding the soil not the grass plants directly. Similar to topping your lawn with some good top soil. ( just my 2 cents)

    • @SergeiWhobichakokov
      @SergeiWhobichakokov 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Steven Morris that’s exactly what milorganite does. It feeds the micro-organisms in your soil. Your lawn will feed off the micro-organisms. I’ve been told that you shouldn’t use milorganite for your first feeding because the micro-organisms are not activated that time of year.

    With using Milorganite to help grass look greener and healthier, what do you recommend for getting rid of weeds?

    • @JealousLawnCare
      @JealousLawnCare  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kang Yang -- definitely the best thing to do is put down a spring pre-emergent for weeds before they come up (like Scott's weed and feed). Once the weeds are already up its harder because more and more keep popping up because of no pre-emergent in the soil. Depending on how many weeds you are talking about, if it's not too many i would recommend Ortho Weed B Gone which is safe to spray in the grass.

    • @kangyang1466

      Thanks for your reply! So for example next Spring should I put down the Scott’s Weed and Feed first and then the Milorganite? If so, How long should I wait before putting down Milorganite after putting down the Scott’s Weed and Feed? I had purchased my home last year which sits on a little over an acre of land and the previous owner did an excellent job taking care of his lawn. The grass was dark green with no weeds. It was the yard that sold me on the house. Well this year, because I haven’t been taking care of the yard like the previous owner, I noticed some weeds and the grass isn’t as green. I want to be able to have the yard back that I fell in love with again. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated, Thanks!

    • @JealousLawnCare
      @JealousLawnCare  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kang Yang -- great to hear your lawn has such great potential and history! Yes early spring you can just put down the weed and feed (i do 2 applications to make sure I timed it right for the crazy weather). You can put down Milorganite anytime without any problems or fears. It will always give your lawn a darker green color. I typically use Milorganite monthly and it produces great results!
