The Jersey section of the AT is such an amazing thing for us City people. Hikes are so beautiful and placid. So close to the City
Hey I live in ct on the border of New York. I hike and do a lot of dirt bike trail riding all over New England. Over the years I've been intrigued by the rock walls all over New York and a mass amount in CT. I've done a lot of research and know body really knows exactly what these walls are or who made them. They go for thousands and thousands of miles in all different directions, Yes some are from farmers clearing fields and for boundaries but some just don't make sense. There all over places that could never even have been farmed and some of the rocks that were moved are gigantic and set so precise. There s info online but not to much. It has always amazed me and made me wonder. Great videos. It's nice to get an in depth view on the whole AT... Great job!

The boardwalks are absolutely amazing.
Hollywood here. Nice to see you get through the tough Pennsylvania terrain. Lot of rocks. New Jersey was cool about walking through the swamp lands. I was stationed in DC, so looking to step off the trail and take the train to the Marine Barracks. (I was stationed there). Look forward to the next video.
It’s amazing how rugged the New York section is, with how consistently low the elevations are.
Also, while the AT skips it, the Catskills Mtns a bit further north are even more insane! I did a nearly 30 mile dayhike in them just over a week ago, with nearly 9,000’ in elevation gains!
The Adirondacks are even more brutal, but aren’t geologically part of the Appalachians, but a lower extension of the Canadian Shield Mtns, which extend pretty deeply into Quebec.

I have loved your videos. i was at Clingmans Dome at Thanksgiving and we walked down to the AT and i felt so inspired just walking down it a short way. Now i am trying to convince my hubby to get in shape with me and do at least the Smoky Mtn section. Are we going to get to see what happens after New York???? lol
So cool to hear of your desire to hike more of the AT! It was the greatest experience in my life. Get in a little bit of shape and have light packs and trust me if you can keep those knees feeling good you will end the trail in the best shape of your life, the trail will get you in shape for sure :) The rest of the states are coming and should all be up before I start my thru hike of the Pacific Crest Trail in April! This may be a good time to give you some more encouragement, seeing as you are solo now. I won't knock the ones who may have quit. What you are doing is spectacular! And all you have is one blister on a toe. I only imagine what my feet would look like. I notice the various diversions; getting a good meal, watching a game, hanging out with other hikers. That has to be motivational. Alone now, I just wanted to urge you on. I hope you run into additional hikers.
I love your videos. I am considering doing the trail myself and was a little put off by some of the other videos I have seen (lots of parties and drinking) your videos show me what I want to see and the why i would want to do the trail. Thanks
Sara Schoening If you want a less crowded trail, start on a weekday and consider a "flip flop trail"- still counts as a thru hike, but you start at Harper's Ferry and go North to Maine, then complete the Harper's Ferry to GA after.

Nice Video. We definitely have tons of bears in NJ. I've camped across the river in several different PA Boy Scout camps and never saw any. NJ they're everywhere.
Paddling the Delaware river in the Gap last summer with my kid, we saw a momma bear and cub waterside on the PA side of the river.
I live in NJ, and we have them all over town. Garbage mornings are always interesting. HA

I was keeping up with your trip as it was going, but love that you've come back with more in depth vids for these sections. Great work. I take it your camera time codes as it records? There's certainly no way I'd be able to keep track of dates and times like that in my videos, not with out logging every video I took somehow.

Very cool man. I live in Jersey & I recognized most of those spots. It is a nice section of trails. I'm hoping to do the whole nj section in one trip this year. I've only done it in bits.
Been though the Lemon Squeezer a few times and camped there for a week in Harriman St. Park. I plan to do the AT, myself in 2019. I think the berries you didn't like were huckleberries.
Gotta go to High Point for the Bathrooms with running water to freshen up. Drinking water also. Plus a three state view

Your close to New England when you see the walls. They were property lines and fences. It was open cleared land at one time they are like two hundred or more years old
Some of the rocks reminds me of where I grew up in Tennessee. There is this one small mountain I know of with a bunch of rock formations that you can climb on and some have little caves. I'm smaller than you, don't have much problems with narrow spaces. I used to go caving here and I've been in some crawlspaces in the mud where I had to crawl on my belly through a tunnel. If you leaned up at all you'd hit your head and it's a one direction thing. No space to turn around. Was in that cave for like 5 hours that day and never reached the end.

Felix Diaz Jr a healthy population. I believe it’s the densest population of black bear on the trail.

The pond you are referring to in your video has high acidity according to one hiker on the AT.
Just finished this last video. Gonna go looking for the rest of your trip after. Awesome job on it man. I'll be hitting the approach trail March 10th myself. Great to see the PA rocks. I hiked the Tuscarora trail this year and we ran into some rocks and nasty sections but nothing that seemed so bad. I thought the PA rocks was exaggerated but I guess I just wasn't far enough into the state. Met City Slicka on the way to. Didn't say much, I think he was in a hurry but seemed like a nice guy.
In the marshy area, I recognized poison hemlock next to the trail with the white flowers.
I am glad you put these videos together as I am planning on a section hike - Harpers Ferry to Delaware Water Gap, but my hiking partner and I may extend it into NY. Two questions - people have said that the northern portion of the AT in PA is rocky and can chew up your boots - you didn't seem to have a problem - any comments. And second - you wear gloves - why? My section hiking will depend on my hiking partners Dad who lives near the Water Gap. He is not in good health so we shall see. Thanks again
Hey Will thanks for sharing all these videos. You've inspired me to get off the couch and get outside. My son and and are going to start training to hopefully do the AT trail in the next year or so. Might actually go and do the John Muir trail as a precursor. Are you planning to keep adding your videos via each state? If so, when can we expect to see what happens after New York?

You didn’t show any Bear Mountain
Did you follow a plan for the miles to be covered by a certain day? I notice that you averaged less than 10 miles per day at this point yet talk about 20 mile days. Did you take zero days or did weather and terrain cause slow days?
I made no plans for my hike. I hiked however I felt called to do that day and when on every side adventure that I was presented with. I had no time line but to enjoy the hike to the fullest. I took 45 zero days as I travels to Gettysburg, my uncles lake house, Washington DC, friends houses, trail angels houses, adventures with Chair off trail not seen in my videos. It was a blast.

There is a Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, but multiple individual mountains that are called Shenandoah, including one in the Appalachians in southern upstate New York.
What do you do when you see bears?? I need tips.
Usually yelling at it will scare it away.

How do you know he seen bears? He never shows it but yet has a f in camera on his face 24 and 7. Stop being so stupid people these guys dont even walk the entire way. They get rides for hundreds of miles than get out and film like they been on it for weeks, months. There are people who are true and do it hard core but very few. those are the ones who dont take pictures and fake vlog.
Look at its midsection respect its space put your arms out wide back away for 150 feet slowly if possible then turn around and walk away slowly making noise will aggravate the bear and is only nesecary when they become agressive saw a 400 pound black bear eating some plants in the mountains ive also seen 8 coyotes in 3 years and have had the coyotes surround my tent and eat carrot peals that i pealed outside my tent

Bears in NJ but no video, despite having a camera. Bullshit.
50 years ago there were no bear problems in NJ or NY. Bears got shot, no debate, no discussion. Rough on the bears, SAFE on the people. You only get to conserve ONE species of terminal predator, that's life.
Bear spray is a waste of time and money. Black bears DO NOT come up to you!
