    Harper's Ferry is possibly one of the most beautiful small towns I've ever seen.

    My old stomping grounds... lived in Harpers Ferry and the surrounding area for 30 years. You should have taken the short hike to the high point on the MD side of Harpers Ferry. Fantastic view of the Shenandoah and Potomac merging. Along with the railroad bridge crossing. I've been up there many many times. Great video series... wish I'd done the entire AT in my younger days.

    HOLY smokes! When you're crossing the bridge at the beginning over the shallow river (about 1:35), I got wicked deja vu - I dreamt about that place before! No, I've never been there, no, I've never hiked. The furthest east in the States I've been is Baton Rouge. Anyway, I had to share - my mind was blown - LOL. I'm still enjoying your videos. Thank you!

    HAHA!!! The guy you passed on the foot bridge was State Delegate Neil Parrot. He has knocked on my door before. The guy is relentless with his signs and posters. Here I am watching a youtube video and he's popping up! He's everywhere like a virus. lol

      I was wondering who that strange man was on the bridge just standing there.

    Very Cool! As a Marylander, I have hiked the Maryland section many times! Your videos are great! Not that you care, but the man you met on the I-70 bridge is Neil Parrott he is a State Delegate. Too bad it was so foggy up on Annapolis Rock! If it wasn't that is a great place to see how that area is just surrounded my PA and WV mountains! Thanks for the videos!

    Hi Will.
    I'm section-hiking the trail and just made it to Harper's Ferry from Front Royal.
    My next section (Spring, 2020) is Harper's Ferry to Duncannon, PA.
    Then, Duncannon to Delaware River and New Jersey (Fall, 2020).
    Your videos are a great way for me to get an idea as to what I have ahead of me.
    Thanks for your great work!
    God Bless...
    UPDATE on 06-26-2020
    Due to surgery and the closure of so many shelters and campgrounds, I have moved those hikes to 2021.

      Hey, Ken! I’m planning on hiking the New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut sections over the next several weekends, and then a section from Harpers Ferry to the Delaware Water Gap, probably sometime in September!

      @@GuadalupePicasso Hi. Thanks for sharing. I hope you have a very blessed and safe trip. Before going, make sure that the campgrounds are open. There's still a lot of closures in PA and MD. Look forward to hearing about your trip! God Bless...

      @GuadalupePicasso 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ken Brenner thanks for the heads up, and best of luck with healing from your surgery! I’m just about to say my night prayers here, and I will pray specifically for your recovery, and for your thruhike next year!
      So far I can tell, I’m all good for the AT sections in New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut. I haven’t yet looked to see what restrictions there may be in Maryland and Pennsylvania when I hit those sections (God willing) later this year! If I’m lucky, by then (I’m thinking of starting Memorial Day weekend, since having that Monday off from work would allow me to save one of my vacation days).
      As a random aside, if you’re on Instagram, feel free to follow me: cocamojoe
      I hike regularly as is, and post a fair amount on there about my hikes!

    Totally enjoying the great info on long distance hiking. Two things if you could address for being out on the trail even if it's 2 vid's. Hygiene, anything from washing your body and cook kit to popping along the trail. Living without family mainly your wife both from you side and hers living without you. That could be anything from staying in contact to visits along the trail. Family is very important to me and being without my wife is a big deal. Thanks!

    High rock and Black rock are equal or better than Annapolis rock. Gathland was pretty cool too. I'm surprised you didn't visit them. And i think it is somewhat misleading to to say most of MD is flat and smooth. A good portion of the nothern half is steep hills with rock. It's not 2 mile climbs but we saw some people struggle for sure.

      Ken Brenner me and a friend did a 28.7 mile dayhike in the Catskills Mtns just last week. The terrain was so absolutely brutal, that Backpacker Magazine once ranked this trail, The Devils Path, as there #3 most difficult dayhike in all of the US. Our elevation gains for the entire day were easily at if not over 9,000’.
      While 40 miles would be difficult on even the flattest terrain, I would feel fairly confident about doing it, since the terrain there is relatively flat and smooth (I believe that the 40-ish miles in Maryland only go over one mountain, South Mountain?).
      In fact, more intrepid hikers will hike in Virginia, near the West Virginia border, and hike into and through West Virginia, then hiking all of Maryland, and then camping just across the Pennsylvania border. I forget the name for this, but the challenge is that one hikes around 45 or 46 miles, and also hikes in four different states in one day!
      Just so we’re clear, this isn’t something that I’ll be trying to do.

      @kenwbrenner 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GuadalupePicasso Hi. Impressed with your Devils Path hike. I'm sure you will be successful on the Maryland hike.
