Solo clapping for Gil Parris, “I’m not worthy, I’m not worthy”. Praise God for the talent that Gil Parris and each of the talented musicians have been given, the joy that they have shared, and for working through the equipment and algorithms that make it accessible to many. Also, when possible remember to support local musicians. I miss going to Open mic nights in Oakland, CA.
Great version of this song. Everyone played really it flawlessly. The groove was solid. This is what happens when real musicians get together to play real music. GREAT WORK GENTLEMEN!! Oh,BTW I now know who that funky drummer is!!
the guitarist knocked my socks off!! what beautiful tone and articulation! It has been long since i wasn't surprised by a guitar player (and I say this as a fan of Jeff Beck)
Yeah, he's great. Definitely will check out more of his playing. (And for the tone, note the original Jeff Beck signature Strat was very close to this guitar, an early 1990's Strat Ultra, I think.)
I have always loved the tone Nathan East gets from his Yamaha TRB 6 string bass. Haven't heard a bass that sounds like it; love the way it sits in the mix in studio and live settings. Of course, the person playing it has a lot to do with that also...respect.
Infidel14? I love his tone too.. Every time I see him play, makes me think “sounds great & oh looks easy”.. because I never seen him flex/move too much, he’s so relaxed! then I grab my bass to try, and I’m back to reality:)
I think Nathan East is the only person I like on a Yamaha bass. I had a Jeff Berlin edition at one time but just didn't like it. I was also nowhere the player I am now, so things change. Anyhoo, East really compliments that bass (or the other way around).
Amazing. This tune represents so much regarding the Civil Rights Movement of the 60’s and the struggle for Equal Rights. But never had I known that this “funky blues ditty” was written by this dude who witnessed the horrors of the Holocaust in his native Austria, a guy who played acoustic piano like hell on fire in his early Jazz years, who later founded the inimitable Weather Report with Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorius and Peter Erskine, at its core, who further founded his own post-fusion ensemble, the man known as the late-great Joe Zawinul. So very glad I got to hear Weather Report circa 1981-1982 at the JVC Jazz Festival at Lincoln Center in New York. Man, the late-great Bill Evans (“Blue in Green” with Miles Davis from the “Kind of Blue” album) had passed away right before that time, so I never got to hear Bill play live (Damn, God!). Mr. Nathan East here again, I’ve nicknamed him the “Ron Carter” of Electric Bass cuz dude be ev’rywhere lol. Great post, thanks. It’s good to cry a little sometimes... that’s why we’re Human! 🤓
Good stuff. I love that guitar/keyboard hand off at 5:32. For guitar nerds- I believe Gil's playing an early 90's Strat Plus with Lace Sensors and the original Wilkinson roller nut.
Always good for me to listen to musicians far greater than me. Wonderful when master bassist Nathan East played a solo that other players kept playing and supported him. So many times if a bassist plays a solo everyone but the drummer abandons supporting him.
Actually a 30 year old Randall RG-80 with Celestion, and a Tech 21 Trademark 60...but yes. (*To date I've used that set-up on all SJ, including "Europa") Thanks for the memories, I recall saying that in a Guitar Player Magazine interview...circa 90's. best, gp nyc
Gil Parris you're one of the best guitar players i've ever heard in my life, how come you're not more well known**?! Truly wonderful playing, tone, articulation!! ** as in: within the rankings of top 20 players alive...
longde They used to say the same thing about Danny Gatton, "The World's Best Unknown Guitar Player". Gil is amazing; fame isn't everything, talent like his, however, IS everything. Gil is a guitar player's, guitar player's, guitar player.
I don't have a keyboard handy, the bottom is like descending from Ab, G, F, E, Eb, D. Some common tones, bass movement to Eb in the middle of it. Probably a real neat trick. Dunno if @mattkingpiano will divulge trade secrets or not.... 🤣🤣
@@markdavydenko2166 lol I know he didn't really, just kinda looks like someone was behind the camera and shook their head at him and then he pulls a face in response
All of these guys are such pros. Gil is so original and Nathan is such a complete bass player. Great performance.
So glad I found this! Love this!
This TH-cam channel is a blessing from God

The best performance of this jazz standard I have ever heard. Congratulations.
The space that James and Nathan allow is heaven to the melodic section.

It took me a long time to warm up to the non-standard bridge chords. But these guys absolutely kill it. You sold me.
Great arrangement. Excellent tone on the guitar!
Wherever he is, Nathan is fun to just watch.
Best jam on M3 ever. Guitar out of this world!
the guitarist knocked my socks off!! what beautiful tone and articulation! It has been long since i wasn't surprised by a guitar player (and I say this as a fan of Jeff Beck)
longde Jeff with Stevie.
i don't know, he felt like a knock off scofield to me

Music is a wonderful human thing. We can all learn from each other, speaking in harmony.🎸♥️
Holy shit, y'all. That was amazing.
Blown away. Thanks!
Wow that was astonishing! Gil Parris took string bending pretty darn far there, great stuff.
I feel like quitting after watching Gil. Tight stuff!

Nathan has big ears indeed, and is an absolute BEAST...however, those altered chords are mine, and were discussed/rehearsed prior to recording.
@@mattkingpiano wow
Yea.. agreed. His understanding of altered chords and tone coloring is outstanding.

3:04 looks like Nathan regretted that unnecessary slap bass.
What?? That sounded sick, don’t think he regretted anything🤣
