It apperently is the case with the nerf guns. Everytime i see video where someone redesigns nerf gun ot ends up being borderlands-ish/destiny-ish or other sci fi game with rust and/or comic vibe.
Love the video chris, and a great looking prop. but my advice if you ever intend to paint a nerf gun and keep in opperable(as you said you wanted to do) then there are 2 key steps that really will help keep everything both working and looking great. 1) you need to sand down the entire blaster. if you don't, then if you take it out to play with it, the paint(even with the prier) loves to come off the plastic. And 2) you should really take the blaster apart before painting it. doing so will make sure do paint or shoe polish accidentally gets into the inner workings and gums it up. i learned both of those lessons the hard way doing my own paint jobs. I hope this helps, and once again, great video!!!
Did anyone else think of The Mandalorian when he mentioned it being in the desert? :D Amazing paint job, dude. I'm going to be picking up an Alpha Hawk tomorrow, and I plan to upgrade and paint it. This video certainly gave me ideas.
absalutely love your work. it was you that enspired me to do the same with star wars figures, like K2SO and the storm trooper (first order) What I would love to see is you making someting from scratch, out of nothing more than , a bit of string a few popsikle sticks and a used toilet roll... With (obviously hot glue) BUT NOTHING ELSE. PS thank you for all the kick ass vids and ideas.
The trouble with using latex is that it ruins the brush, but I've found that rubber tipped artists brushes work fantastically and the latex comes straight off with no effort. Failing that, mustard or toothpaste are brilliant alternatives to latex that clean up easily.
Cheap way to do the latex, use toothpaste. Paint over the top of it and wash it off when the paint is dry. Toothpaste will wash away and leave you with the same effect. Also, this looks real nice. Dunno about the rust though, anyone who would go to the trouble to customize their gun would probably keep it relatively clean.
Nice one, and an avesome work too. I would place this in the hands of some post apocalyptic character. I am actually pimping an Elite 2,0, the "AK style" . It is a six barel blaster rigged with a folding butt and a long barrel (18 mm diameter wide) . Among my DIY acessories I planned a removable silencer made from a can and the same plastic tube used from the barrel, what allows me to shoot through fully mounted. Now I am wondering if I will create a flash hider too seeing what you did with this rifle.
hey Chris, this is great but doesnt the shoe polish leave a strong odour after? and would it be orite to put a clear coat over it mate? I was thinking getting the specific oil acrylic paint for weathering. ... I picked up 2 of these Nerfs as soon as I saw youre vid a few weeks back. Thanks. I love scifi.
Phenomenal work. Just came here by chance looking for pimping nerf vids. Time well spent. Don't have chops to do it at this level. But it's inspired me to do a Guardians of the Galaxy Ravager custom with ravager seal.
With the apocalyptic mood and look of the overall gun and background, it looks like the wattz laser rifle mod from fallout 4, it's pretty cool well done!
Hey Chris, I thought of something you could pimp out with your style which is the Nerf Star Wars First Order Blaster. I want to see how you'd make it and see what techniques you'll use to make it look as real as possible.
I absolutely loved this and the apocalyptic storm trooper helmet, could you do some more stuff kind of like those two things but add a steampunk vibe, that would be amazing
Cosplay Chris! You inspired me to try and make my own Custom Nerf Gun. Im having some trouble finding brush on rubber latex. Can you recommend anything else I could use instead to create that chipping paint effect??? I was thinking of going the route of using play dough or rubber cement.
What size PVC pipe did you use for the barrel? Also, did you need to secure it yourself (and if so, how?), or did it fit tight enough you didn't need to worry about that?
I really like the latex idea!! I use toothpaste for scratch marks and then remove it with a wet sponge, it's a bit of a cheaper solution. But great idea 😊
You might try using some black vinyl dye paint on the plastic before painting proper. Then if it scuffs it'll scuff through to the black rather than orange.
I know this is a late comment but I was looking at what you did to this gun and had a though, It might not be that hard to make it look like soldier 76's rifle from Over-watch. Is there any way you can do video on that?
Salt, hairspray technique, mustard/ketchup, I even saw the TIE pilot helmet on Tested and they used toothpaste. I prefer hairspray, but I think any of these would have worked better.
Enjoy, Geeks! Have yourselves an amazing weekend :)
Cosplay Chris saludos desde México (greetings from Mexico)
you too m8!
are you going to customize some of the Jakks pacific justice league big figs they look good but you...well you can make them look AWESOME
Cosplay Chris Chris could you do a playlist of all your custom pimping out stuff

ErickTheBadass Be patient my young grasshopper, soon Chris's awesomeness will shine brighter then ever before.
ErickTheBadass so true
ErickTheBadass so true
ErickTheBadass so true
looks like something out of borderlands
It apperently is the case with the nerf guns. Everytime i see video where someone redesigns nerf gun ot ends up being borderlands-ish/destiny-ish or other sci fi game with rust and/or comic vibe.
Willqer because they are designed to not look like real steel, space guns is what's left
Now I want to re-play them
I have respect to you for this observation
It looks like destiny mixed with borderlands
Challenge for Chris: make something without weathering it
He'd go mad
WhitePointStar Productions No driveway dirt either
Not Safe For Work Gaming And no #mybuddymiles
WhitePointStar Productions that is an impossible task
And no resin
Small note: for a cheaper version of the latex masking, use mustard.
Ryan Moulder really?
AshenOne61 6 yeah, yellow mustard or toothpaste!!
@@FamineStudios Yeah toothpaste is even better, because it drys quicker
One of (in my opinion) your best builds and certainly one of my favorites! You’re a champ, Chris!
Just had a job interview the manager Watches you 😂😂
How did that topic come up
What's the orange thing/paint color you used to weather the edges of the board almost at the end?
It kinda reminds me of Ana's rifle from Overwatch. Great work Chris!
Man the pleather wrap is so satisfying. I love wrapping stuff in pleather
Woah is that hoodie for a spiderman homecoming cosplay?
No. He stated in one of his previous videos that it was supposed to be for his Red Hood cosplay, but it was too small or something like that.
funnytoyvideos He said it just didn't go well with the rest of the suit
That'd work though
It might have worked if it was a darker red, I can see why that shade wouldn't work
Henrique Silva Yeah, that’s it.
This gives me serious vibes of the weapons from borderlands 1, and makes me wanna do some custom collectibles of my own
reminds me of Adam Savage's tested video where he made his own custom nerf rifle. Great stuff Chris!
Had to come back to this video...simple amazing, Chris! No wonder you made these for the pros- beautiful final product!
Another awesome piece Chris. Wow. Again, shoe polish is a unique tool to age anything. Awesome.
Hey Chris. You could use a course sponge to apply the latex. It would give a mutch finer chipping pattern. Great video as always.
I always love when you do completely original pieces instead of replicas
2:57 ive been waiting to hear that music again for a long time
That final reveal... Blew me away. Truly beautiful
Holy shit Chris! You have got some amazing talent my friend! Keep up the phenomenal work!!
Daredevil, Green Arrow, or Green Lantern cosplay??? 🤔🤔🤔
Ace Breao that would be awesome! Personally, I'd want a Daredevil cosplay most, but all of those sound great!
Green Arrow for sure. Its not too hard or complicated but very iconic at the same time. Plus, he could pull off the Stephen Amell hairstyle easily.
If he were to do a Green Arrow cosplay, a non-Stephen Amell GA would be better.
I literally ordered this last night and have been wondering how it would look customized. Nice!
awsome review the gun looks amazing keep up great videos
"Weathering to these numbers"
*POINTS AT LETTERS*
Chris could honestly make a movie with his props
This is awesome!! Amazing job.
Did anyone else think of The Mandalorian when he mentioned it being in the desert? :D
Amazing paint job, dude. I'm going to be picking up an Alpha Hawk tomorrow, and I plan to upgrade and paint it. This video certainly gave me ideas.
Nice work on that buddy. Came out really nice.
Him pulling the tape up was soooooo satisfying
16:43 Scared the shit outta me
What was scary about it
Rip headset users
Lol what
That was fuck'n awesome! You never disappoint! One day I'll try this out for myself, that whole wall mount frame is just amazing!
I got some tips sand down the blaster completely until it gets chalky and also take open the gun for you can make the paint more even
absalutely love your work. it was you that enspired me to do the same with star wars figures, like K2SO and the storm trooper (first order) What I would love to see is you making someting from scratch, out of nothing more than , a bit of string a few popsikle sticks and a used toilet roll... The trouble with using latex is that it ruins the brush, but I've found that rubber tipped artists brushes work fantastically and the latex comes straight off with no effort. Failing that, mustard or toothpaste are brilliant alternatives to latex that clean up easily.
The background looks like tarmac with double yellow lines. 'Do not park your Nerf gun on this display board!'
I Absolutely love your prop makeovers!
Where do u get the shoe polish at can't find the one u have. I keep seeing ones with sponge
I was waiting for him to say something Aussie. You’ve earned yourself a new subscriber!
You should try the hairspray technique for doing chipping too
Holy crap that volume change at 16:43 scared me.
I'm not sure if I'm more impressed with the gun or the display lol I really love how the display board turned out well done!
Nice one, and an avesome work too. I would place this in the hands of some post apocalyptic character.

I love scifi.
Phenomenal work. Just came here by chance looking for pimping nerf vids. Time well spent. Don't have chops to do it at this level. But it's inspired me to do a Guardians of the Galaxy Ravager custom with ravager seal.
A must in a Chris' custom collectables is WEATHERING!!!!
Wooow what a dope transformation, so cool!
2:47 "We can get into the really juicy fin stuff" - Chris, 2017
Beautiful just beautiful!
I never get tired of the background music
Dude that’s the cool3st looking display I’ve ever seen
Can you do the same for the nerf zombie strike: slingfire
PLEASEEEE
Love the custom looks amazing I don't know how you do this God like paint jobs you make it look so easy
With the apocalyptic mood and look of the overall gun and background, it looks like the wattz laser rifle mod from fallout 4, it's pretty cool well done!
Can't wait for that red hood vid. And that gun looks kickass.
I do nerf commissions for friends of mine. I may have to try this one out!
hey chris you should consider filling in the screw holes with some bondo and sand it down the end result is sweet
Such borderlands. Very cool.
What is the size of the pvc pipe
Chris, you can just use toothpaste instead of latex for the "chipped paint" look.
Amazing, think I may have a go at this one. Starting the bat signal light tonight. Thanks for the Inspiration.
Instead of shoe polish can I use black paint and water?
DUDE! Nice job! It looks amazing!!
When are you getting the NECA Michaelangelo? Lol my OCD kicks into overdrive just seeing the three there lol. Great vids, love your work.
Awesome mate, well done. You are pretty impressive.
You know it's a good prop when he whips out the shoe polish
For future Nerf customs take the gun apart before sanding and painting
It would be nice if you would include a materials list.
Chris is that hoodie for a spiderman cosplay? If so..the dirt from your driveway would be PERFECT
I just started watching you and your work is amazing bro. keep up the good work 😊
Is it okay if you cover the holes and the trigger with tape, and just spray it? So you don't have to remove the parts?
McSlrtz Quicklebrym 2nd Not really, its very hard to mask triggers and slides.
Another great job from the Master.
This is so cool
Cosplay Chris! You inspired me to try and make my own Custom Nerf Gun. Im having some trouble finding brush on rubber latex. Can you recommend anything else I could use instead to create that chipping paint effect??? I was thinking of going the route of using play dough or rubber cement.
Toothpaste
Awesome job Chris awesome buff said
That looks pretty fucking awesome! Almost Nightmare Batfleck meets Starship Troopers meets Halo
absolutely awesome. I learn a lot of great stuff from you man. keep up the sick work.
What size PVC pipe did you use for the barrel? Also, did you need to secure it yourself (and if so, how?), or did it fit tight enough you didn't need to worry about that?
why does this custom looks like the drakon from call of duty black ops 3
I haven't been this early to one of your videos in ages Chris! Love your videos, keep up the great work
Dang, you make some wicked cool stuff!!!
I really like the latex idea!! I use toothpaste for scratch marks and then remove it with a wet sponge, it's a bit of a cheaper solution. But great idea 😊
might just be my favorite, looks really cool
What is the measure of the pvc? where I can get a barrel and with the correct measure?
I’ve heard of people’s using mustard in place of the latex to cover spots where they don’t want paint. Could be a cheaper substitute for people.
Dude, you should do a Borderlands inspired nerf gun!
If run out of latex, regular mustard will do the same job only it's more irregular. Looking good though.
Salt, hairspray technique, mustard/ketchup, I even saw the TIE pilot helmet on Tested and they used toothpaste. I prefer hairspray, but I think any of these would have worked better.
do u actually use the or nerf wars or just kooks,or do u sell them instead?...
Honestly one of my favs
excellent tutorial / I am startibng my first project for Halloween with a crap airsoft gun.. this is a solid video to get the look i need.. thank u
You can use mustard in place of latex it will do the same thing just use a paper towel to clean up
how do you spell the name of the sponge he refferences at 3:51
Is that hoodie for the homemade spider man homecoming suit?
You could've covered the rubber padding of the grip with frog tape.
Enjoy your videos so much hope to one day be able to buy something you build love all your builds
