Mythbusters was one of the driving inspirations for most of the stuff I do. That and BackyardFX from Indy Mogul. Without those two shows I couldn't do have the stuff I do.
This was the video that taught me how to spray paint stuff properly. Instead of just doing steady streams, I now do it in short bursts like he does here. I find it leads to a lot less "pooling" of paint and gives a nice, even finish.
I have an uncle whom served in Korea. On his 80th birthday one of his squadmates actually found the carbine he served with. He matched the number to his records. He took it and cleaned it and polished it and gave it to him as a present. First thing uncle Roy said was "You ruined it, I spent 2 years in mud and snow and you took it all off". He was joking of course.
i picked up a huge scope from a garage sale for $10.00 and put it on the same nerf gun for laughs. this is a serious scope too. the guy i bought it from said he had it on a .50 cal black powder rifle that rusted up after putting it up without a wipe down on a trip up in Alaska. by the time he got back to Texas, the barrel was corroded and he just didn't want to chance firing it. fantastic job on your build!
ya totalyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyypyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Adam... you broke the rule of nerf modding. 1 don't paint the entire mag 2 paint the gun when it is apart 3 don't paint the trigger, and if you do at least lube the shit out of the trigger. 4 sand off all the logos' texturing and warning labels.
Wait!!! *scrolls up* What!!!! I watched a 30-minute video?!! I really didn't realize! Although I was wishing throughout the video that I could've had a similar gun!
This is one of my favorite videos, of any category! I was gifted a Nerf gun at a company Xmas party recently, and I'm hoping to do some customizations like this. I've done some model building before, but this would be my first time doing this kind of movie prop style painting. I would love to know how the "silencer" was made, and how it connects to the barrel?
@Harvey Specter: Yeah, but it ends up looking like mud... Or worse. I'm with Lunartist on this one - a soldier would maintain his gun. There's little you can do in the field about scraped paint or worn metal or the various dings and scratches that gear picks up in regular use, so that's fine. But this amount of caked rust, mud and literal crap - which is what it ends up looking like - just seems like the thing spent a few years at the bottom of a lake before someone fished it out and tried using it. I'm not against weathering and ageing of a prop - it gives the item a sense of authenticity. However, good wear tells the story of how the item was used to wear as it has - smooth edges around harness hooks, worn matches where fingers usually stand, etc. What we see on the prop here is more than anything artificial disrepair, which I'm personally not a fan of. Not knocking Adam's skill in model-making in the slightest, of course. That's still an amazing amount of work to do in a few hours. It's just... I don't think the "rust" adds to the weapon's appearance, is all.
Love this! For future try taping the clip where it enters the gun to keep the action of pulling it in and out smoother and less likely to strip that paint away
I think Adam is actually a time traveler because at 30:10 when the whole process is sped up the clock in the background doesn't budge. Adam Savage man from the future confirmed?
How to weather like Adam Savage. Step 1: Get a 3 years old child. Step 2: Give the 3 years old a brush and a copper/brown acrylic paint. Step 3: Put the object you want to weather near the child. Step 4: Leave the child unattended and watch from afar. Step 5: Wait till the child paints on the object. Step 6: Rush to the object to clean it before the paint dries. Step 7: Inspect the object's weathering. Repeat Step 3 if necessary. Step 8: Take the brush and paint from the child if you don't want your living room to be weathered. Congratulations! you now have an exact replica of Adam Savage's weathering technique.
Yup, I've never looked up nerf mods but I do watch a lot of blacksmithing and diy videos. That could be why. I'm not complaining thoug. Adam Savage's nerf mod was awesome.
I used to do this all the time as a kid with my nerf guns, spent so many hours taking them apart and putting them back together again until they worked perfectly. Definitely taught me a lot about mechanics and building!
@@dodsonbolles6198 There is no misconception except the one you have. A gun is any ranged weapon that uses compressed air to discharge a projectile. "Nerf Blasters" is a trademarked version of a Hasbro nerf gun. The reason is because "Nerf Gun" is a generic term used to describe any foam dart firing weapon.
@@austinb192 except you also said nerf blasters are "weapons", but they are toy blasters. Another thing is nerf blasters do use compressed air to fire, but that's not the case with firearms. Firearms use a hammer to ignite gunpowder causing an explosion inside the gun to fire a bullet
Doodus the explosion of the gunpowder inside a shell causes a pneumatic propulsion system to move the bullet. That’s what a gun is, a pneumatic propulsion moving an object. It’s the same reason why they call pneumatic nailer a “nail gun”.

Mythbusters was one of the driving inspirations for most of the stuff I do. That and BackyardFX from Indy Mogul. Without those two shows I couldn't do have the stuff I do.
WalcomS7 awesome
Luckily, cause your content is great. A lot of fun to watch.
WalcomS7 this was the last thing I expected Adam Savage to do, mod a Nerf blaster, but it turned out well
This was the video that taught me how to spray paint stuff properly. Instead of just doing steady streams, I now do it in short bursts like he does here. I find it leads to a lot less "pooling" of paint and gives a nice, even finish.
When myth busters was over I was really sad but now I can still watch Adam
Real Playz y'know, tbh, when I saw the whole "MB: the search" thing, I went on a bit of a... purist bent... but now... not too shabby.
Real Playz I miss grant TBH
I have an uncle whom served in Korea. On his 80th birthday one of his squadmates actually found the carbine he served with. He matched the number to his records. He took it and cleaned it and polished it and gave it to him as a present. First thing uncle Roy said was "You ruined it, I spent 2 years in mud and snow and you took it all off". He was joking of course.
Steven Brown in the back of His head he wasnt
Fully agree
Thats really cool and all, but how is that relevant to the video?
This is video about how Adam remakes Nerf gun, same how his uncle's squadmate remade his gun.
👍🏻
when your uncle is adam savage an its christmas
"Mom, Dad, look what uncle Adam made me!!!!"
*parents sweating nervously* "H- how nice d-d-dear"
@@johnwatchorn6548 underrated comment
Turns out he just gives you 200 bucks
If only
The precision with which you rattle-can a Nerf gun speaks to how serious you take your work and is an inspiration.
i picked up a huge scope from a garage sale for $10.00 and put it on the same nerf gun for laughs. this is a serious scope too. the guy i bought it from said he had it on a .50 cal black powder rifle that rusted up after putting it up without a wipe down on a trip up in Alaska. by the time he got back to Texas, the barrel was corroded and he just didn't want to chance firing it.
fantastic job on your build!
how. Nerf has a patented rail system
Poor scope, from a .50 cal to Nerf gun. Now he's a digrace to his family
if you saw how bad off the rifle was, you'd feel differently.
"Whenever you see a bunch of sticks, buy them!". -Adam Savage, 2017
W.P.O.D
BUY THEM!
ya totalyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyypyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
"Ya wanna buy some deathsticks?"
Pointy sticks!
George Hamilton you don't want to sell me deathsticks
Adam... you broke the rule of nerf modding.
1 don't paint the entire mag
2 paint the gun when it is apart
3 don't paint the trigger, and if you do at least lube the shit out of the trigger.
4 sand off all the logos' texturing and warning labels.
and that silencer will kill your range and fps
and you should of cut the rail with a ban saw and mounted a pitiny rail
and yes i can't spell for shit
and i hope you drilled out the air restrictor and removed the locks
Dude
With this kit there isn't an air restrictor
Using this as reference for weathering, thank you Adam
Were you going for a Borderlands style or was it just a happy accident? Really badass would love go get one of these babies
Yes! Looks totally like a BL2 Sniper Rifle.
Now that you mention it, it does have a strong Borderlands vibe.
Looks a lot like a Hyperion sniper rifle, no lie
Yeah, It looks ALOT like a green quality hyperion with that weathering.
But it was built by Adam so that makes it a Unique :P
Just like a true Hyperion sniper rifle. Looks cool, totally useless in combat.
Adam is a Savage when it comes to weathering things
"PAINT THE SLING, EVERYTHING MUST BE WEATHERED"
Weather or not it was necessary, who cares!
Only Adam can make a 30 min video feel like 3 min, Amazing
Am I the only one who thinks the sound of spray paint is really satisfying?
yes
Roblox Radman are u the only depressing person here with a roblox profile pic? I dont know but i sure hope so.
furious fleet dude don't be mean
Roblox Radman im a meanie with a wenie
Roblox Radman are you a Jake Pauler too?
removing masking after the paint has dried to reveal a perfect paint job has got to be the most satisfying things ever.
I don't know... That seems like a tad too much weathering. There's "well used" and then there's "fished out of a swamp."
No soldier is gonna leave his gun rot like that. WTF
I think it's just to compensate for the brightness of the yellow used, it tones down substantially.
I rather he used black than rust....
@Harvey Specter:
Yeah, but it ends up looking like mud...
Totally agree, looks like someone took a shit on it, that had a massive explosive diarrhea..

Deanoroo I haven't paid much attention but I think the clock just doesn't work
Paintballer sarcasm mate
You must be super fun in conversation, Paintballer.
No, he just worked only one second every day for the exact same second each day.
you sir. are a genius.
I watch these videos for the masterful technique, the dope creations and the extremely satisfying sounds
I love Adam because of how humble he is never shows off. His wealth just does everyday things

Omar Ebrahim didn't get your comment... until he started weathering. :D he was just beating the thing with a brush then slacking it with a rag.
This looks a lot like a Borderlands weapon. I keep expecting to see the MALIWAN logo on the side.
looks more like a Hyperion to me
and i prefer to get an Hyperion, are much more accurate and kick hard too, maliwan sniper rifles just trade too much damage for elemental effects
Totally S&S Munitions
SpookyLizards it does not have an expanded magazine
I always preferred Jakobs snipers.
What Adam says: the narrative is accentuated by the details.
What he means: paint makes gun cooler.
Did anyone just randomly get this recommended
Mikaen Maloy im not complainin
Googled nerf gun eye.injuries and this popped up shortly after. Lmfao
u probs looked at secret santa stuf i think thats how i got here
yeah
Yup, I've never looked up nerf mods but I do watch a lot of blacksmithing and diy videos. That could be why. I'm not complaining thoug. Adam Savage's nerf mod was awesome.
Today, tested becomes the weather channel.
how much would it be if I asked you to make me one?
400$~500$ probably
looks like a borderlands gun
andrew boomershine Either a Hyperion or an S&S
INTernal Jordan Hyperion. That yellow
could be a Jakobs they have a bunch of yellow rifles
in the first borderlands the real good Hyperions were read/crimson. so i would stick with the S&S
the Lyudmila fam
I used to do this all the time as a kid with my nerf guns, spent so many hours taking them apart and putting them back together again until they worked perfectly. Definitely taught me a lot about mechanics and building!
this makes me miss mythbusters so much :(
braden bodib same :(
braden bodib I myth them too
braden bodib
they have new episodes
braden bodib agreed
you know you are lucky when you get Adam savage as your secret santa
I love how Hasbro specifically calls them blasters as to be more age appropriate.
Its cause they actually are blasters, it's just a misconcpetion to call them guns because guns are the actual lethal weapons
So anyway, I started blastin'
Me: Enough weathering?
Adam: There is no such thing.
That weathering looks so good. Makes me fell weird about my pristine collection of air soft guns.
i only wanted to see how he changes th tech but why is that cut of the video. (instead there is only painting )
Same
its pretty much just a spring change, nothing really fancy or amazing to be honest
I'd have to agree with Dalton. There would be reasons close to what he specified as to why that cant be shown on the video
@@SPcapx sorry mate but he's entirely wrong there is a lot of content on TH-cam that shows how to do it and where yo buy it

This is really cool! Reminds me of something from borderlands.
Exactly my thought!
Imagine if Adam tried to recreate all the guns from that game.
bazooka joe I wish he would do that. That's would be a great series!
