    Skyrim: angry nordic shouts

    Such an incredible interpretation of Dunmeri culture and music. It fits so well, and cudos to smitehammer translating the lyrics into Dunmeri.

      Dunmeri culture has influences from several different real-life civilizations.
      Like the biblical Israelites they were lead to Morrowind via mass exodus by the prophet Veloth (who shares aspects of Abraham and Moses), practice a comparitively unusual religion for the setting (somewhat comparable to the Israelite's monotheism vs. the polytheism popular in the region at the time), are struggling against a powerful foreign empire occupying their homeland (Cyrodiilic Empire, Roman Empire), had a long rivalry with the Dwemer, who have some appropriately Babylonian influences, and have a messiah-prophecy in the form of the Nerevarine.
      The Ashlanders draw heavily from the Mongols and a bit of ancient Mesopotamia, being nomadic and "barbaric" (at least from the point of view of the Great House Dunmer.) The ancient Chimer also draw much more influence from ancient Mesopotamia.
      And finally they take some architecture (particularly the Hlaalu and Indoril styles) from east Asia.

      @darrynmurphy4764 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's funny you mention that. When I was travelling Cambodia I actually felt a weird sense of nostalgia for Morrowind. The furtive, somewhat xenophobic locals; the monumental stone temples in Angkor, which with their canals and huge complexes reminded me of Vivec City in a way; the tropical forests and wetlands that resemble parts of Vvardenfell; the ruins of the long Khmer civilisation that littered the landscape just like the Dwemer ruins. I've always wondered since then if there was a lot taken from South-East Asia, especially since Red Mountain and the ancestor worship has a lot of really obvious parallels in Indonesia.

      If you dig into Jewish mysticism, you'll find a lot of overlapping parallels with Buddhist / Hindu concepts like Nirvana and reincarnation. Pair that with the Chimer exodus from Summerset, the nomadic warrior-herdsman culture of the Ashlanders and the House structure of the cities ( think tribes of Israel ) and it all becomes much clearer.

    This song is AMAZING but... in "A Land of War and Poetry" the lyrics are in ald chimeris which is similar to ayleidoon. No nitpicking but instead of this being a dunmeri song it would be more lore suited to be an Ashlander song due to the context and sheer difference to the other languages. I think I remember seeing that the Ashlanders have their own language and I think this would be great for that. You really should do more dunmeri or Ashlander songs, maybe even other languages. On the imperial library site theres a part about hrafnirs elven languages. If you sung something in one of those languages, everyone would Love it. Hope you make more Es music. :)

    • @madDesparada
      @madDesparada 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      City Hunter Personally I'd consider Hortator to be a bit more comparable with the Roman Dictator. For the uninitiated, Roman Dictators were very temporary Magistrates elected by the Senate. It is technically the highest governmental role one could achieve, but each Dictator's term usually only lasts for 6 months. The Roman Dictator was very differnt from what the word means to us today, & wasn't a synonym for a tyrannical despot. Also the Roman Dictator was pronounced differently then how it is today, in fact it was pronounced very similarly to Hortator. Both the Hortator & Dictator are both temporary ranks that are granted emergency powers of & by the government/house they represent. Both are roles typically ever only appointed during times of crisis or to meet a specific goal that only they could achieve. Touching on what L.C. Rama said, the word dictator sort of means speaker in latin, since it's root words are both dictō, Latin for I speak/I compose/I dictate/etc, & dīcō, Latin for say or speak. So in a way, Dictator is the Speaker of the Roman Republic, just as Hortator is the Encourager of the Houses of Morrowind.

      Yeah there is some DUnmeri language outside of Skywin, not much though, and it doesn't got enough grounding to be really counted as a fake language. More like, we have a fair amount of words and alphabet (balmora = forest of stone or something like that.) Judging by culture and all that stuff, it makes sense that their language created so far by the boys at skywind sounds levantian. In order to be an actual language though requires things separate from the words, mainly, cases and such.

    I do not like it, I mean, I like it, but it does not fit with the Dunmer, this melody fits better with the Redguards, desert warriors. And Dunmer is a people of dry wastes, of burnt lands. It is not desert, palms, camels, ect. These are lands contaminated with plague but vibrant with life. Something like the steppes of Mongolia, or the prairies of North America. There you should look for inspiration. . The song is great ... but, in my humble opinion, completely out of place.
