Peter, Netflix, and everyone involved with "The Crown" should be immensely proud. It was a superb show and probably the best production ever on Netflix.
He should do a show about Queen Victoria ❤
Loving hearing directly from him what the show truly always been about, missing it deeply already 😢
As much as I love The Crown, as much as I adore Peter Morgan's writing - when he said "I was willing to re-write the show and not have Diana in it" --- a part of me, and this may be an unpopular opinion -- a part of me wishes that was the case. My ONLY criticism of the entire series, and there is ONLY ONE -- Season 5 & 6 did not feel like 'The Crown.' It got to the point where the last two seasons became the Diana show. Both actresses were stellar, don't get me wrong, brilliant performances. But throughout the Diana storyline - "the crown" was lost - and that's my only critique. I really wonder what a season 5 & 6 would be like without pushing Diana front and center... What made seasons 1-4 so lovely was following the crown and all its random storylines and how the family reacted to it - but we always remained on the main star - the crown! I do hope sooner than later Peter Morgan gets bit by the royal bug again and visits that series of the four kings - I would absolutely love seeing that come to fruition.
I agree. I think the last 2 seasons feel VERY different and I always thought it was just because of the proximity of the story to our time - some parts felt a bit salacious even, to me. I think, like you said, had they focused more on other things and gave the Diana storyline a little less screen time, it might've felt really different. But then again, how do you tell a story surrounding her and have her not be the focus, when even just the memory of her can command attention and steal any spotlight? I don't know that they could've found a happy medium, but I guess I wish they'd tried.
I agree, too. He speaks about distance here, and even though it's been more than 25 years now, I don't think he had enough distance. It's still too soon when it comes to Diana. She's such a special case, and eclipses everything, even now.
All that said, even after she left the show, it still didn't regain its former quality level.
@@monmothma3358 I'm glad I'm not alone here with that thought. it still was and is my most favorite Netflix series ever! - such a gorgeous, mature production that will always be the jewel in the Netflix crown.
@@liv97497 Peter Morgan had a PHENOMENAL research department... I'm confident in saying if Diana wasn't featured so heavily in 5 & 6, I'm confident that research team could have found material from the 90's and early 00's to fill out the 20 episodes. Just a random example - and Peter's used this before as an example also: the smog from the 50's. Look how Peter took an event he wasn't even aware of and turned it into one of the best episodes of the series! I have nothing but praise and admiration for Peter Morgan - he's a genius! But it really would have been interesting to see the series remain focused on QEII and the crown itself. (can I be honest for a second: I believe Peter when he said Netflix left them alone - no production notes. But a small bit of me feels that when Netflix saw how popular season 4 was WITH young Diana... I kinda feel Netflix honcho's said....more of this please. you know what I mean? And I say this because Peter was so consistent through 1-4 - 5 & 6 just feel so disjointed - it truly feels like he was writing the last two seasons based off of Netflix Exec's production notes)
@@SAINTOBVIOUS that actually makes a lot of sense. One of the really interesting things about the earlier seasons, personally, was learning about events I had no knowledge of, as someone born in the 90s and not from an English speaking country, let alone a country with any relationship at all with Queen Elizabeth. I'll always wonder what they could've done had they chosen to focus on other things in the later seasons.
This was so interesting to watch! I love what he said about having free reign and "this was the show we wanted to make". Too often we see shows and films with great potential get screwed by what the studio thinks will be more popular and those decisions are almost always unfathomable. The show was good all throughout, but it was *only* as successful as it was because the first season came out with a bang. You can feel how special it is, how grand, how careful, how loved. I'd love to see him go back to other royals, so here's to hoping it happens sooner rather than later.
A really good dynamic between them. Really enjoyed that
He has a great sense of humour, it seems
The last scene of the series was one of the best in tv history
7:32 that's very interesting. It is really weird for me that he didn't rely on historians. The things is people really believe that this conversations between happened. But he is saying about this gap and it is really intruiging, it starting clicking for me, that that what it comes with drama. And it is really sensible
One of the best Drama series ever!
Great interview. The Crown is a major achievement.
8:49 That's a really good scene
love this!! more like this!!!
The show wouldn't have gotten off the ground without Claire Foy. When it was good, it was really good, but occasionally, it rang as true as a split bell.
"Spill it!" was a good line that may appear in a future Morgan production.
😢miss her ❤
I miss Diana
20:28 Super fascinating
What like about the second part of the sixth season is showing as Harry story, his relationship with Wiliiam how left out he felt. I really found it interesting
One of the Best Series ever 👌....
...how did she pronounce "debacle"???
I know! As soon as it came out of my mouth, I was like... what?
Brilliant ❤
Why did Dodi change his mind that night and leave the Ritz hotel after telling his father that he wouldn't leave.
The interviewers accent...😖😖
The vocal fry more irritating than one mispronounced word.
But good questions. Imho
He should do a series about the rise of Netanyahu.
Edit: because he said middle class, non-British and guns
