  • This is a budget friendly way to build a fully floating dance floor with jumbo pool noodles. Dancing on it almost every day, it's going on 5 years strong and saved us a lot of money! 2 dozen or so pool noodles cost @$125, Wood, Marley labor, @$6000 total cost.

My hubby and his engineer friends had this same idea 20 years ago. Methodology was a little different, but our floor's still in pretty good shape! Also - found a supplier for the water noodles before they were colored and bought them in bulk for cheaper. (They're actually pipe insulation - apparently some employee from the plant where they're made thought it would be a good idea to bring a couple home from work for his kids in the pool and the modern day water noodle was born.) Happy dancing!

I have 2 questions: Any problem with the circular saw getting all gooey from the pool noodles getting so hot when cut? And, any reason why you didn't use OSB on that first layer of subfloor? Thanks in advance. I"m so excited about my upcoming dancer floor.

Thanks for letting us know it's lasted over 5 years. That's been our main question in many other diy videos for this flooring idea. Thank you for specifying!

Thank you for sharing; I used your idea and built my daughter a sprung floor since we are restricted to home and dancing online... simply awesome!

Hi Rebecca, you've been fantastic at answering everyone's question below. I didn't see this one... so hope I'm not repeating. Did you 'measure' how level your concrete floor was? If it was slightly uneven, do you think it would impact end result/quality of the dance floor?

Hi, thanks for sharing! I would like to make this kind of flood in my garage. May I ask how thick the wooden board you used? Thank you!

A few centimeters between each other in the noodles?

I want to build a 8x8 version of this with detachable fencing around it and spar and roll with my mma buddies

Great video and idea!!! I am just now planning my small dance floor in our back house. I think this is going to be so much better than dealing with a ton of battens!

Thank you for sharing this video - SO informative! I want to build a dog agility training building & am looking for a floor that isn't an equestrian floor as they are so messy and expensive. This looks ideal as it should stand up to dogs and still be strong enough to cope with the weight of the equipment and moving it around as long as we use noodles in the middle of the squares as well as the corners and go for 3/4" ply!

Thank you. It looks great! Dancing is my favorite exercise! I live in a nyc apt. I would love to create a mini-floor (3’x3’)...Do you think this will be shock absorbing enough so that my downstairs neighbor won’t be disturbed? if I place a 1” thick mat under this floor as an added buffer? COVID weight needs to come off!!
