When RM references giving up on 3, 5, and 6, he's talking about terms used for Korea's younger generations. These generations are so frustrated by the lack of opportunities and economic hardship they've had to endure, that they've given up on the important essentials of life. The generation that gave up on 3 things stopped 1. getting married, 2. dating, and 3. having kids. The generation that gave up on 5 things added 4. relationships with other people and 5. working a job to earn money and being able to afford a house to the list. And lastly, the generation that gave up on 6 things added 6. having and working towards your dreams. RM then says he won't give up on the last and 7th thing, which is hope. The older Korean generation that had so many opportunities and economic growth (around the 80's) blame the problems the younger generations faces on them, saying those generations aren't working hard enough. However, those generations work until they're exhausted, get the best education they possibly can, and they still barely make ends meet most of the time. Thus they end up giving up. BTS is definitely making references to this (and they do so in other songs as well). But then BTS's lyrical genius comes in, and I believe they're also talking about how hard they (BTS) work in comparison to the haters/larger companies who are trying to keep them from succeeding. It's such a brilliant song! Oh, also a little Easter egg! Watch the first part of Fire again, Dope is playing in the background at the beginning 😉 You can check the release dates to get an idea of the video age! If it's not stamped on the video itself, it will be down by the views and likes 😊 I absolutely love that you decided to break this up between watching the video first and then the lyrics second. Your insight on the camera work and video production is super interesting! Your reactions are super genuine and I'm really loving them so far!
@@teloprivato6461 Thank you!! I watched a Korean explanation video on Dope, and then dug in deeper to understand it better. I love how deep BTS goes with their lyrics 💜
@@StaciCyberspace Such a good explanation. I love Armys like you, that know their facts and instead of attacking members they don't like, help the reactor discover BTS's Universe. I think this is our job as a fandom: supporting, promoting and loving our boys in any way we can. All my love from Mexico City 💜💜 Borahae.
RM here in the beginning as a door man is reintroducing BTS to everybody, because they had changed their style when this album came out from hardcore teens to mature and sensible young adults. If you watch any of the docs you'll understand better, but this was their start to worldwide fame 💜
I have watched many BTS reactions, but I have to say that have the most genuine reaction I have ever seen! I Love it! I can't wait until you see the video for ON Kinetic Manifesto
When their label grew (bc of BTS) and went public, their financials were disclosed and the label showed that they were struggling during BTS’ rise. But they also had an interview (I believe it was a set designer that worked with the label) that whatever performance BTS had, their label went all out on production. It was a sort of ‘Go big or go home’ situation and ‘Going to risk it all’ because the label ceo believed so dang hard that they’d be the biggest group in the world way back then.
“I want to be RM when I grow up.” Dude. Same. And I’m also in my 40’s-er, I mean, 29. Another great video! I’m also a relatively new fan of BTS, but their art literally saved my life as a dancer. And as a former film major, I LOVE that you are breaking down cinematography in their MVs. Keep doing what you’re doing because I am living for it! 💜
I felt that comment he made! Roscoe, I'm 40, turning 41 in a few months and I felt that! Lol. I think most ARMY can agree, we all want to grow up and become President Namjoon (a popular nickname we've given him) because he's so insightful and inspiring. Also, I really like your genuine reactions. You don't seem like you're just acting interested for the camera. I subscribed after watching only one reaction and I don't normally do that. Most reactioners don't feel very genuinely invested in their work.
Just some info about this song. The Korean word that is translated into "Dope" for the title of this song doesn't really mean "dope" in the way we, as English speakers, would interpret that word. It is a somewhat weak translation that loses a lot of the important double meaning of the Korean word used. The word they actually use would be more accurately translated as "sick", a word that has more of a double meaning in English as both something that is really cool ("That's so sick, man!") and also a negative physical experience. The Korean word literally means drenched in sweat or something to that extent (mind you, I am not Korean, I got this from watching a reaction by some older Korean men), but is now used as slang by younger Koreans to mean "awesome". So they are both saying they are really awesome, but they are also saying they are working their butts off. I've noticed in a lot of commentary videos, they often pair Dope and Bapsae together as an example of songs in which they are talking about the struggles of their generation. And the fact that Dope and Bapsae are also the two songs in which they explicitly refer to the "three giving-up generation" and the "five giving-up generation" (in RM's part) I think that this song while obviously talking about how hard they themselves have worked is also probably a commentary on how hard their generation is having to work. Based on that, I think they are intentionally reflecting various careers to give a nod to all the people who are working really, really hard in their careers while others are out partying. The "we" becomes more collective, then. "Those of us who are working our butts off while everyone else is partying ... we're awesome." So, in RM's verse he says (no idea about accuracy of translation, again, not Korean, lol). "Given up on 3? Given up on 5?? I like the number 6. How about giving up on 6?" The older generations in Korea, as well as the Korean media, often refer to millennials as the generation that has given up. It started out as having given up three things, courtship, marriage, and childbirth. Then it advanced to a word that means they'd given up on five things, thereby adding employment and home ownership. Eventually it jumped to seven things when they added that they had given up on relationships and even hope. That's why RM adds in his verse that he'll stop at 6 (after making some weird word play that I don't totally understand that involves beef ...) and then says, "Can I get a little bit of hope?" Basically saying they refuse to give up on everything. Then he calls out the older generations/media for condemning them while they are working so hard and he calls out the millenials for just taking it and tells them to take their energy, they aren't alone, don't give up, take some hope, wake up and go. I've never actually watched an explanation video for Dope, so this is what I've personally pieced together based on explanations I've heard about some of the words/phrases used in the song, so somebody else may know more. But I think people tend to focus on the dancing a lot in this song and disregard the lyrics mostly because there is a lot of meaning lost in translation for this one. Hope this helps!
First, I love reading your comments! Second, the word play you mentioned with "giving up on 6" generation and the beef thing is interesting. I'm not Korean nor am I a fluent speaker, but "yukpo" (yuk = 6) or "giving up on 6" also means beef jerky. So he says that since he likes beef jerky, he is a "giving up on 6" generation. This may not really add more to what you already explained, but I just thought I'd give it it try to help clarify the part you wrote that you didn't quite get. Otherwise, I just wanted to say I've been a fan of your comments!
oh i loved your comment, and i've never watched any Dope explanatory videos, but it's one of my favorite lyrics. Based on my own theories and interpretations, the message about "working hard until you're tired" is obvious in the song and I think the contrast with Fire's lyrics, which say pretty much the opposite, about having fun and living however you want, is amazing. . Neither says "this is the right way to live", the 2 songs simply show both sides, saying that.. live your life, choose your path, be yourself, make your style, and that's it.
Loving this! You're going to fall for RM even more. That man has a beautiful brain. He's a lot younger than me, but I want to grow up to be him too. He's an awesome role model. And yeah I'm looking forward to you seeing something like RM's 2018 UN speech. He wrote it himself and the fact he wrote something like that at his age blew my mind. Very smart young man. He writes a LOT of their lyrics and they are always so deep. Yes my favorite line in this song is, 'I reject rejection!' BTS had to do that because at that point in time, rejection was a lot of what they were receiving and their mentality was 'No, we don't accept this.' And then the fact they turned around and gave that message to the youth as well was beautiful.
So very well-put, Amaris, thank you. 'No, we don't accept this' gave me chills. It's amazing to think that we really do have that power inside of us, and yet we forget it so easily.
You are going to find out that each and every one of them can perform and keep an audience. And I'm talking on the level of Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, Madonna.etc. Now put those individuals in a group of 7 and you have the reason why their concerts are sold out before it even gets to the general public. I am a sucker for incredibly good performance and these guys suckd me in that way. Their lives are so good.
@@ThisRoscoe LOL I get it. I kept getting 2 pairs mixed up at the beginning. At some point it will just all click. Once I knew them a bit better, I actually challenged myself to figure out whose who in the dance practices. You'll see why thats a challenge :) The Run BTS episodes really help.
@@ThisRoscoe It's usually either RM or Jimin that first grabs people's attention. As far as the moving brick wall it was probably something mechanical. They did a performance of their song Home on Jimmy Fallon and they had a fully rotating bedroom, lol.
@@marissa1341 It all started when I wanted to know their names..now I can recognize them from the back of their heads🤣 And I didn't knew this until I saw meme about it. I'm obsessed 🤣🤣
The camerwork in k pop in general is the best I've ever seen in music. Ever. Present day k pop camera work is just advanced and 🤌🏼(leagues above western MVs and camerawork). This was back in 2015 when BTS was just starting to get a smidge of popularity.. And if you like more camerawork, BTSs “save me” MV is done in just 1 shot. ( the behind the scenes show the boys constantly running behind the camermen to escape from the shots). It's got complex choreography too. A major reason for k pop MVs to be so high quality is because k pop developed with TV over time.
I know it feels like I pause/play/rewind A LOT but I am actually doing it LESS than I want to, LOL. There is just so much awesome stuff to see and explore!
@@ThisRoscoe maybe someone mentioned it already. One time the camera people messed up really bad and they got mad. So they made a whole video about what is a good camera angle. It was pretty awesome. They put so much care into their work that they actually care how it’s filmed. I respect that so much
@@Random-qi3vv oh I am most certainly not talking about aespa. I think they are actually terrible performers who rely heavily on camera to compensate. But I digress I meant this video (link below). They performed this at a show and the camera work was the absolute worst! It recorded the audience and shots of them were from terrible angles or from super far away. So BTS made this whole video to make a point about camera angles. th-cam.com/video/MRlux_Vd0ZE/w-d-xo.html I found the original performance! Link below. When bangtan does choreos they are very conscious about the angles. This was super early in their career so I wonder if their request for certain angles was dismissed with how they were treated early in their career by these shows th-cam.com/video/kWuNi-OLLgU/w-d-xo.html
It sucks I’m so late to comment, but I wanted to say you’re only on reaction 2 and I am so impressed! Watching people react to BTS is my way of filling the void of showing my friends BTS. (Unfortunately my efforts to convert my friends and husband are failing) So, I really enjoy genuine reactions (no matter how long! Longer the better!) as it’s like showing your friend something you’re really excited about for the first time. Thanks for sharing this journey with us! 💜
We ALL want to be RM (real name is Namjoon) when we grow up! There's a reason why he's the leader of BTS and why his nickname is President Namjoon! He has the power of the Army fans behind him! He is super intelligent (actual IQ is 148) and so well spoken and thoughtful!
Yep! I'd definitely buy that too!🤗 (at least it wouldn't be the merch bloodbath like the "made by bts" hunger games that took place this week) 🙄🥺, y'all know what I'm talking about 😭
So yeah, you're totally right! This is a song for the haters, they did a lot of those back in the day, but basically they're talking about how hard they work and that despite of people not even giving them a chance, they know they're on the way to success because they're pretty... dope 😄 Bangtan style! 💜 It's also criticism about the way their generation is treated in South Korea, and you'll see a lot about that in their music also 💜💜💜
6:23 WOW I’m impressed with you!! Being ARMY since 2019, I’ve seen this MV countless times, and seen so many reactors but never noticed the fact of moving elevator with Tae😳 totally impressed with your genuine reaction! Love it👍 now I am your new subscriber!
As someone who got into BTS through Michael Jackson’s nephew sharing their Dynamite video on Twitter, I love it whenever MJ’s influence on BTS becomes apparent. And it happens a lot, I’m pleased to say and it has been that way since the beginning. The guys even have a Michael Jackson doll in their studio, which Suga often photographed and tweeted about in 2013/4. And RM has a skateboard with Billie Jean MV Michael Jackson design in his studio. (The rappers each have their own studios). As a Michael Jackson fan I’m delighted to think that my fave group sees him when they’re making their music.
Hey love your reaction, so happy you found BTS. Just as a quick fyi to help you understand more; "giving up on three? Giving up on 5?" Is based on a korean concept of the 'given up generation' meaning the millenials (and younger) who give up on basic human rights etc because of unaffordable costs and unemployment. Giving up three includes dating, marriage and having kids; five adds giving up employment and housing. It's a concept that is widely used to describe our generation and BTS also speak on it in other songs. Keep going strong. Borahae 💜
@@ThisRoscoe and the phrase “giving up on six” sounds very similar to “Beef Jerky” in Korean, so RM is being sarcastic and the literally translation is “I like Beef Jerky, so why don’t I give up on 6?” So he’s sarcastically saying, since I’ve already given up, wanna snack?
So “Dope” is off of their album call “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, pt. 1” and you’re right, it’s them basically saying “this is us and if you don’t like us, too bad, we know we are awesome and nothing is going to stop us!” This is actually a really bold statement because this was released before their first music show win. In South Korea there are weekly competition shows for music artists and when you win your first one is kind-of like the determination of what your career is going to look like, the longer it takes to get your first win the less likely you are to be successful, at this point it had already been 2 years for the boys (Side note: things are a little different now because Kpop has become globally recognized, but take it in context of the era of the year 2015) I’m so happy you are having such a good time, love that you watched the video twice, that’s how I do it too. 💜
@@lofvee I believe i need you was the first song where they had changed their style and were recognized more globally. From what I understand Dope was more of a do or die situation as the company was struggling big time and this track was either going to make or break them. Fortunately, original ARMY knew genuine talent when they saw/heard it, which I am forever grateful for!
I can never say enough good things on their camera work and editing for their videos. They are just amazing. Once you get into more of their videos and watching more of who they are it will all start to make sense. People never thought they would make it. These guys worked their asses off to get to where they are. Thats why people just love them so much of course they make great music. But they are just down to earth, humble guys, who just love their army. And they are hilarious, wait until you get into run bts lol
Hi Dekente! Yes, you are absolutely right. I need to get on this asap. I can't keep moving forward with, "This cat over here" and "here comes this dude" 😛I gotta put in the time!
You were right with their age- "Dope" was released 1 year before "Fire". Fun fact: you can hear "Dope" playing in the background in "Fire" MV at the beginning when the boys are seen hanging out behind the fence.

So glad you put Dionysus during the MMA 2019! The entire performance is epic but this performance of Dionysus is mind blowing! Definitely want to add N.O. to this list though for the break yeah?
Also, giving up on 3 and 5 refer to the generational and economical difference in Korea. Millennials there have given up getting married even dating having kids and buying homes because it's so hard to get ahead. It's a bit more complicated but those are Korean specific expressions. Also they build most sets, only minor green screen ever .
@@ThisRoscoe Just letting you know they have behind the scenes for every music video. I believe it is called Bangtan tv or sub something like that…(their is one that has eng cc)…I newish too so some names of channels I have a hard time remembering.
@@amberpearce710 Welcome! :) The official channel is BangtanTV you got it right. These behind the scenes are usually called episodes. Bangtan Subs is a channel made by army when the bombs and episodes didn't have subtitles back in the day. The company looks to be going back in those old videos and uploading subtitles to them.
Wow, didn't expect Ep2 so soon. I feel spoiled. Love your excitement and curiosity on how they filmed their MV, and again actually reading their lyrics and taking time to understand them. Another great reaction. Thanks Roscoe!!
Okay I'm really loving this journey you are on and all your reactions to something new with BTS. I saw your name come up on my notifications and checked so fast once I saw it was a MV reaction. It's so entertaining. Now that you got 2 down let's go Mic Drop, Black Swan, Save Me, Fake Love!!!💜 I'm ready for it all Roscoe!! 💜
@@ThisRoscoe They always give us great performances but feel bad like a parent to see them overexert themselves. They do use green screen so don't listen to those blanket statements. However, certain videos, such as Fake Love, they do not as seen by their behind the scenes which you will totally enjoy (they work with mostly Lumpens). They only started putting eng subtitles on BANGTANTV maybe 2019? Just look up same title and add eng sub in search for older ones. Some nice bilingual Armies have subtitled to share with all. Lastly, I have finally subscribed, the only reaction channel ever! Why? Your humor is the same as mine, you already pointed out things I never picked up, and your reaction to their music will remind me of mine. And no, you will not love every song and it's OK. BTS is amazing but don’t forget their amazing Hybe/Big Hit CEO (now Chairman to focus on producing) and all the company staff (in house producers, stylists, managers, etc. It's a TEAM effort to get to where they are now. Have a blast!!!
I know I come a little late, but I discovered your journey with bts just now, if you happen to see this comment I just wanted to let you know that the army appreciate you, your sweet manners and the great messages you leave. 23:21 watching Butter melt is so funny, i feel like I've been pranked when they did that teaser... i can't believe i watched a live stream of an animated Butter melting for 1 hour expecting one BTS member would pop up at the end

Namjoon stood out to you just like he did me. This is my second reaction from you. I just finished Fire and oh man, the way you are so smitten with RM is so beautiful to watch. Can’t wait to see you uncover how great RM is and the guys. You’ll be blown away of how good they are to the world. You sir is now my the third reaction vid I subscribed to, I have watched a lot but I only subscribed to the genuine ones and you are the third of the three.
Edited to add clarification thanks to Laura MM in the replies: The Korean title of this song is 쩔어 (Jjeoreo, as heard in the chorus) which can be literally translated as "soaked," "stained," or "weary" (like from hard work). It can be also used as a slang term meaning "sick" or "disgusting" but also "cool" or "dope." The BTS members play with this word in this song when they describe themselves as soaked and disgusting with sweat in the studio and weary from their hard work, but this hard work is also what makes them "sick" or dope.
@@theuntamedalex732 I'm sorry for replying in English, but actually I'm not Korean and I'm not good at Korean either 😭 I'm still at a very basic level but I'm trying to get better. Thank you for the encouragement 💜
Fun fact: Namjoon/RM's stage name was "Runch Randa " when he was still an underground rapper. You already know Kim Namjoon so here are the other members: Jung Kook: 1:40 Jimin: 1:50 Hoseok a.k.a J Hope: 5:17 Yoongi a.k.a Suga: 5:27 Taehyung a.k.a V: 5:42 Seokjin : 7:16 I like how you are talking video pulls etc. make us appreciate more the MV. And Yes, what they mean by Dope is cool. That hustling is what's cool rather than slacking. 17:41 I think it means don't give up easily...
Fun fact: on their early years, they had a reality show called hustle life where they had the opportunity to learn from colio, warren g and other talented artists. You can watch it when you are ready😌😌
54 years old ARMY from Germany 🇩🇪 - THAT vid made me ARMY :) As for the video they shot it in three different outfits, the office/salary man outfits, the uniforms and the job outfits. The seamlessness is post-production but they have done a couple of one-shot videos like Save Me. However, they are so precise in their dancing that there are actually stage mixes of them of them performing one song but on different days and stages and ppl wonder how they change clothes in mid-dance formation because you can edit their dancing seamlessly.
You're doing such a good job at trying to interpret and like your breakdowns. Yeah we don't mind long videos. We've watched Suga paint for an hour saying about 5 sentences and a sneeze so...Keep going! Recommend: On -Kinetic Manifesto and Black Swan
I love that you notice everything about the video. Not just the choreography and lyrics, but also cinematography, camera angles, etc. You're getting the whole experience in one reaction. So cool!
Alot of the time BTS has 2 storey sets built and actually lift their cameraman for transitions. So that's probably how they got the elevator scene shot, they lifted him on and then they both went down. Probs lol😭💜 They are also very good at one take staging, so the boys are used to running around the camera to get to another scene without a visible cut.
There's a behind the scenes video which shows it's actually green screen for Dope. It's on BANGTANTV and has English subs. They probably didn't have the funds for that kind of practical effect for this video since they hadn't even won a music show yet. But I know what you mean with the shots, because they do some nice transitions between multi-floored sets for BS&T and Fake Love.
Great reaction! Wasn't expecting another one today. Fun fact, at the beginning of the Fire music video, the song that is playing when you first see the boys is Dope. Lol
the scene with the elevator was actually a greenscreen (you see it if you watch the making off one day) btw yes they are slightly younger here than in fire, it’s about a year between these two mvs
When u said I want to be RM when I grow old i remembered an army came to BTS's sofi stadium concert held during last Nov end and dec frst week with a sign board "RM I want to grow old with you". Great reaction!❤️
What a song. This was also the second song I heard from them and it acught me instantly. Amazing choreo. And the sax!!! The amazing thing is that their lyrics were predicting what was it going to be for them a few years later: total success. But they work so hard for it.
Love you dissecting and occasionally being bewildered by our BTS and their set’s working crew! Thank you! Edit: also love you sayin “ I wanna be RM when I grow up!” ☺️ Namjoonie’s (performance) presence gets ppl like that and we love it! Always proud of Our Leader Kim Namjoon! 😘🐨💖💜 Edit: so glad someone explained 3,5,6 etc to you! I Love the references in DOPE!
BTS is a journey you wont ever regret. No other artist could make me break down a song as much as they do. They referenced a lot of topics that people would not normally talk about. Especially in their culture and yet you can still relate to. They're lyrical geniuses. And yes you're right. Everything that they do is intentional. From lyricism to visuals to production, the performance and everything in between. Excited for your journey.
Hi, Roscoe~~ I'm Alex from in Korea~~sooooo enjoyable. Different!!! DOPE쩔어!!! Your reaction was very impressive. When you said, "How can they do this?" I burst out laughing. I think you will keep saying this whenever you watch BTS's MV. If you go to [BANGTAN TV] in TH-cam and watch "Shooting Sketch", your curiosity will be solved a little. See if what you said was a "green screen" is right or wrong. hahahahahaha Also, if you are interested in choreography, there is a "Dance Practice" video, so it would be good to watch dance practice together after watching the MV. Thank you.감사합니다.
I just scrolled all the way down here to see how u found the boys and hearing u say "i wanna be rm when i grow up" made me cry, like literal tears. He would be so honored hearing that.
@@ThisRoscoe Awesome! or should I say Jjeoreo!! Of course, I knew it would be. I think a lot of the other comments have already explained about 3, 5, etc. Also there are behind the scenes on most of their videos. We'd love to watch those with you, as well. As you figured out, that was a green screen. There is so much content! Including two of the members "reacting" to the finished video. I'm a database/spreadsheet old-lady-nerd so I recommend a spreadsheet to keep track.😅Always happy to send you video links but I don't want to overwhelm you with info or requests. Excited to see what you choose for the next video.
The term give up on 3 and 5... he said N po sedae which refers to the generation that has given up on hopes and dreams because of cost of living and low wages. BTS talks more about this concept in their Bapsae song and there is a great explanation video about it by DKDKTV when you get to that song.
Excited for the next one.... I became an army after the butter release.. so, hearing that millions watched butter melting for a hour was hilarious and unbelievable at first.. but now I can see myself doing just that... It's the power and respect they have earned with their hard work... I read in some other comment section, how someone learned to motivate himself to keep on working harder on his job despite being tired after listening to this song.. and that kind of summed up the whole influence of this song on the working youth for me..
every mv has the date that it was released on the bottom of mv if you want to keep track. Also, you will see quick outfit changes in a lot of their videos they actually do the whole dance in one outfit in every location then will change and do the whole thing over in every location in the new outfit. sometimes more than just two outfits. then in post-production they make the final diction on what they keep and how they want to cut it all together so you will see then reach up in on outfit and then bend down and they are wearing another outfit but because they are so synchronized when they do the dance, they can cut it however they want, and it looks seamless. oh, and BTS very rarely use green screen except in their more recent videos which is because of the pandemic and their inability to film or rent places and build sets.
Oh man, I wish I had found your channel earlier! Just like with BTS, I'm late to the party lol! I'm just glad I found both BTS and your channel when I did. BTS has helped me so much in finding and loving myself!💜
Welcome to the journey that is BTS. I'm not sure if anyone's suggested it, but when you do have time, I suggest watching the MV explained videos because ALOT of their songs are multi-layered and you will need to watch the MV, their LIVE stage, then the explanation to fully grasp the lyrical genuineness of their songs. And if you're not overwhelmed enough, some of their videos are actually stories that connect to the BU (or Bangtan Universe - which is basically a never-ending movie that spans their massive discography ). I'm glad you are starting with MVs from their earlier days, as you will be able to see the growth as you watch more. Again welcome and looking forward to more of your reactions, from a Canadian ARMY :)
You got me when you said in your TH-cam shorts “I have an addictive personality” I’m in for the rideeeeee!!! Welcome to our safe place! Love from Brazil 🇧🇷💜💜💜
I loved your reaction! I get so much joy watching people fall into this beautiful fandom and falling in love just like I did. So happy to see your reaction!! Enjoyed so much!
The "giving up on 3, 5, 6" thing is a commentary on Korean society, similar to how Gen Z here in the US is losing hope of owning their own home (for example) because of school debt. The numbers refer to the things Korea's youth are giving up ever having (their own place, getting married, family etc). There are two great explanation channels but I can't remember which one I watched about this. I'll get back to you if another ARMY didn't/ hasn't already 💜
So glad you reacted to this. Dope is the song that made me an Army. You’re right they are younger, this was an era or two before Fire. I can’t wait to see what you watch next!
The cuts from scene to scene in this are so masterful that video editors have hard time spotting them. It breaks my brain cause they just look like they’re doing magic.
I wanna be RM when I grow up too 😔😅 although I'm a girl. He really is amazing and just so inspiring to me. A real role model with most of what he says and does.
Really appreciate that you're sharing your perspective from a videography/technical angle! Super enjoyable to watch you geeking out on the camera work :D Appreciating another fantastic reaction video! You're understanding their lyrics and vibe perfectly. Thanks Roscoe, you rock!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for taking this ride with me, Danialle! Per many suggestions, I think I am going to dig into the lyrics more towards the end of the videos.
@@ThisRoscoe It's a good way to do it! I usually watch their MV's 2-3 times for visuals/overall vibe of the song and then find the lyric video to dig into their words.
I am legitimately so excited about your BTS intentions I am having such a difficult time trying not to inundate you with content lists and suggestions especially when you have SO MANY comments to go through! Another great reaction Roscoe!
@@ThisRoscoe Hahahaha! Well firstly let me apologize as this is going to be a lengthy response 😂 secondly, just want to remind you that this is your journey and you should do things the way you want. That being said, here are a couple of my suggestions. The Bangtan Universe (BU) is a journey within the BTS journey which I’m sure you’ve already heard quite a bit about. Because there are certain MV’s that are certified as BU content which are designed to be viewed in a specific order it creates a conundrum. On one hand, you want to watch certain videos and we want to see you react to these videos because they are simply amazing tracks with amazing production and visuals. On the other hand, if you just watch them as you wish, you will inevitably be watching them out of the BU order. Personally, I don’t think this would be a problem as when you watch a video initially you are genuinely trying to appreciate all of the things the video is offering and it would be too overwhelming to attempt to decipher the BU bits from a first watch. I guess I’m just saying you should watch the videos as you wish but when it comes to trying to figure out the meanings behind the BU vids don’t stress it during the first view, just save it for when you’re ready to delve into the BU. There is of course is an ordered list of videos, etc. for when you want to start the BU and many of us can provide you with this at a moments notice! In regards to reacting to the MMA’s and MAMA performances, I personally think it is best to watch the MV’s or lyric videos of the songs for each year’s performances before watching the awards show as the award show do not provide subtitles and in some cases you might not recognize the song straight away as they have been enhanced in some way, especially in the MMA 2019…you know the one where Dionysus is going to blow your mind? Anyroad, these are just a couple of my suggestions/recommendations which as I mentioned prior are merely for consideration. This is your journey and you decide which route you choose to take. Ultimately it is a trip you will never forget.
😄Good job. I think you haven't yet caught onto how SMOOTH the transitions in BTS videos are. It looks like it's continuous video with the clothes changes and background and all, but it is just really really smooth transitions.
"I want to be RM when I grow up.” This made me laugh so hard because what you said was so relatable! New subscriber! I'm definitely here for your BTS journey, you're amazing! - 38, Australia
My fellow army send this to me, thank you for reacting, bts lyric is deep also there album usually say a story . Goodluck to your journey just some info. Given up on 3, 4, 5, 6 is a Korean idea that the youth are giving up on pretty essential components for happiness due to societal issues. They are just holding on to the last point which is Hope. There is no way you'd be expected to know the meaning.
I joined you on your couch when I watched your reaction to spring day parts 1 & 2 - I cried buckets watching those videos … then I found this !
Watch the first part of Fire again, Dope is playing in the background at the beginning 😉
You can check the release dates to get an idea of the video age! If it's not stamped on the video itself, it will be down by the views and likes 😊
I absolutely love that you decided to break this up between watching the video first and then the lyrics second. Your insight on the camera work and video production is super interesting! Your reactions are super genuine and I'm really loving them so far!

RM here in the beginning as a door man is reintroducing BTS to everybody, because they had changed their style when this album came out from hardcore teens to mature and sensible young adults. If you watch any of the docs you'll understand better, but this was their start to worldwide fame 💜
Thanks, Chili. Yes, i think it is time to take on the Docs. Time to learn.
I have watched many BTS reactions, but I have to say that have the most genuine reaction I have ever seen! I Love it! I can't wait until you see the video for ON Kinetic Manifesto
Wow! Thanks, Chan! That means so much to me!
Agree
Indeed, not only genuine but really interesting as well.
Roscoe’s mind with On Kinetic Manifesto? 🤯
Right! When the drop scares him def not acting there lol💜
Wow... this is amazing. Go big or go home. That's bold. Clearly it has paid off 100-fold, but in the moment.. that is TOUGH. Thanks, j s!
“I want to be RM when I grow up.” Dude. Same. And I’m also in my 40’s-er, I mean, 29.

"Those of us who are working our butts off while everyone else is partying ... we're awesome."
So, in RM's verse he says (no idea about accuracy of translation, again, not Korean, lol).
@@lisasenglishconversationcl3582 Aw, thanks!
oh i loved your comment, and i've never watched any Dope explanatory videos, but it's one of my favorite lyrics.
UP UP UP UP 👏👏👏
Awesome explanation - thanks 👍💜💜💜
I can ABSOLUTELY believe it. I am trying to see more than just RM and it's difficult sometimes lol.

@@ThisRoscoe no worries, we like that you do that. You genuinely enjoy them and we love to see it.😊
@@ThisRoscoe maybe someone mentioned it already. One time the camera people messed up really bad and they got mad. So they made a whole video about what is a good camera angle. It was pretty awesome. They put so much care into their work that they actually care how it’s filmed. I respect that so much
@@douseenow Are you talking about SMS recent camerawork on Aespa? They literally put out an “advance camerawork”tutorial 😂
@@Random-qi3vv oh I am most certainly not talking about aespa. I think they are actually terrible performers who rely heavily on camera to compensate. But I digress
I meant this video (link below). They performed this at a show and the camera work was the absolute worst! It recorded the audience and shots of them were from terrible angles or from super far away. So BTS made this whole video to make a point about camera angles.
th-cam.com/video/MRlux_Vd0ZE/w-d-xo.html
I found the original performance! Link below. When bangtan does choreos they are very conscious about the angles. This was super early in their career so I wonder if their request for certain angles was dismissed with how they were treated early in their career by these shows

Hi Tatyana! Welcome and thanks for joining me on this ride!
This is awesome, Karen, you're the first to mention these VERY cool tidbits. Thank you!
Borahae 💜
Wow! I had NO idea. THANK YOU for this!!
I was just going to say this!!! Love it!! 💜💜 This is important…
@@ThisRoscoe Pls react to Bts song Baepsae, spine breaker, dope etc explanation videos
In South Korea there are weekly competition shows for music artists and when you win your first one is kind-of like the determination of what your career is going to look like, the longer it takes to get your first win the less likely you are to be successful, at this point it had already been 2 years for the boys (Side note: things are a little different now because Kpop has become globally recognized, but take it in context of the era of the year 2015)
I’m so happy you are having such a good time, love that you watched the video twice, that’s how I do it too. 💜

Bts is a real family for us, we are all a big family and we welcome you to be a part of it, please take care of our boys the way they do with us. Thank you for your sincerity, I’m gonna watch all of your reactions, it’s gonna be a great trip ^^
Purple you
Thanks, Benedetta! I hope you enjoy the journey, too! Borahae!
23:21 watching Butter melt is so funny, i feel like I've been pranked when they did that teaser... i can't believe i watched a live stream of an animated Butter melting for 1 hour expecting one BTS member would pop up at the end
Hahaha! This is too funny! I can imagine the anticipation by everyone!
@@ThisRoscoe More than 3 million army was on line, I was one ☝️
I never noticed the elevator! This is why I love these vids. And you’re great at it!
Thank you! That is very kind! Get comfortable, my friend!
I’m from Canada ..another amazing reactions thank you ..the most of you guessing was right bravo ..but don’t stress yourself to much try to enjoys our 7 seven king.. thank you and take good care of yourself 💜
Thanks Miracle! I am glad you are happy here. ❤️
I lost it when you said you wanted to be RM when you grow up. 🤣 Great reaction! "You nice, keep going" as Jimin once said. 😁
Hi Haura! Thank you!!
Edited to add clarification thanks to Laura MM in the replies:
The Korean title of this song is 쩔어 (Jjeoreo, as heard in the chorus) which can be literally translated as "soaked," "stained," or "weary" (like from hard work). It can be also used as a slang term meaning "sick" or "disgusting" but also "cool" or "dope." The BTS members play with this word in this song when they describe themselves as soaked and disgusting with sweat in the studio and weary from their hard work, but this hard work is also what makes them "sick" or dope.
I never knew that; that's very interesting. Thanks for sharing! 😊
I thought it literally meant “drenched in sweat” but is used how we use “sick” to convey something disgusting and also a slang for something cool.

You already know Kim Namjoon so here are the other members:
Jung Kook: 1:40
Jimin: 1:50
Hoseok a.k.a J Hope: 5:17
Yoongi a.k.a Suga: 5:27
Taehyung a.k.a V: 5:42
Seokjin : 7:16
I like how you are talking video pulls etc. make us appreciate more the MV.
And Yes, what they mean by Dope is cool. That hustling is what's cool rather than slacking.
17:41 I think it means don't give up easily...
NICE! THANKS for doing this!!
Fun fact: on their early years, they had a reality show called hustle life where they had the opportunity to learn from colio, warren g and other talented artists. You can watch it when you are ready😌😌
Hdhdhjdhs it was American Hustle Life!!😅😨😨 sorry for the error🥲😰
54 years old ARMY from Germany 🇩🇪 - THAT vid made me ARMY :)
As for the video they shot it in three different outfits, the office/salary man outfits, the uniforms and the job outfits.
Watching a bar of butter melting for an hour prepared ARMY for everything!! If it's BTS related we are in!!!
I just told him he should react to it 😅
HA! Go figure, Chili... I actually said that to someone else earlier and NOW I'm seeing your comment. Ha!
You’ll notice they play with angles & heights in their dancing & use the camera almost as another instrument! 💜
Such a GREAT way to put it, Pam!
You're doing such a good job at trying to interpret and like your breakdowns. Yeah we don't mind long videos. We've watched Suga paint for an hour saying about 5 sentences and a sneeze so...Keep going! Recommend: On -Kinetic Manifesto and Black Swan
"Five sentences and a sneeze". !!!! LMAO 🤣 If that doesn't become an album name at some point...
I love that you notice everything about the video. Not just the choreography and lyrics, but also cinematography, camera angles, etc. You're getting the whole experience in one reaction. So cool!
I can’t wait for you to get to the live stuff!!! They may actually be better live than in the studio.
Coming soon, Erin!
Alot of the time BTS has 2 storey sets built and actually lift their cameraman for transitions. So that's probably how they got the elevator scene shot, they lifted him on and then they both went down. Probs lol😭💜
They are also very good at one take staging, so the boys are used to running around the camera to get to another scene without a visible cut.
Lol
the scene with the elevator was actually a greenscreen (you see it if you watch the making off one day)
btw yes they are slightly younger here than in fire, it’s about a year between these two mvs
When u said I want to be RM when I grow old i remembered an army came to BTS's sofi stadium concert held during last Nov end and dec frst week with a sign board "RM I want to grow old with you".
Great reaction!❤️
That is so sweet!
Edit: so glad someone explained 3,5,6 etc to you! I Love the references in DOPE!
Glad you are having fun, V!!!
“How did they do that?” will be a common theme.
I look forward to every last one of them!
Hi for sure you know - no green screen. BTW love that being green you were so tuned in
Hi, Roscoe~~ I'm Alex from in Korea~~sooooo enjoyable.
HI Alex! Of course I remember you! You're one of my first friends in here! Nice to see you! Thank you for the suggestions!
I just scrolled all the way down here to see how u found the boys and hearing u say "i wanna be rm when i grow up" made me cry, like literal tears. He would be so honored hearing that.
I wasn't expecting this today! Yes!! Okay ... must watch and will comment after.
Hi Marla!! 👋💜
WOOOW!! HOW DO THEY DO THAAAAT?!?? ARMYs ask this question all the freakin’ time 😅 BTS’ wizardry is truly out of this world!
We'll never be able to talk to Roscoe again now 😭😭😭 2,000+ subs, 600 comments! 💜💜👏👏👏

Welcome!
So excited to see your journey with BTS, it'll be an exciting ride! Thank you for sharing with us!
Yes! Love your reaction! Can’t wait to see the next one!
More to come! Thanks, Lisa!
Oh man, I wish I had found your channel earlier! Just like with BTS, I'm late to the party lol! I'm just glad I found both BTS and your channel when I did. BTS has helped me so much in finding and loving myself!💜
I watched you played the game with BTS songs….. I’m glad you’re finally doing video reactions…. Love it… 53 year old Army Mom here😁💜
Hi Deanna!!! Thanks for riding with me!!
Love your reaction! Thanks for another! 💜
More coming, C P, I hope you have enough time on your hands.
You got me when you said in your TH-cam shorts “I have an addictive personality” I’m in for the rideeeeee!!! Welcome to our safe place! Love from Brazil 🇧🇷💜💜💜
Hello Rebeca! Love to Brazil! Thanks for riding along with me!
I loved your reaction! I get so much joy watching people fall into this beautiful fandom and falling in love just like I did. So happy to see your reaction!! Enjoyed so much!
Hi Danicia! So happy that you enjoyed it! I am having an absolute blast; I hope you stick around for the journey!
I LOVE that youre taking the time to watch for the visuals first and then for the lyrics - and your genuine excitement is so nice to watch!!
Coming soon, Mochi!!
You are doing an amazing job for this being your second reaction! I can't wait to see you react to the informative videos.
Thank you so much!! I am having a blast! Glad you're along for the ride, Kim!
Love your enthusiasm for the editing
love how genuine you are!! can't wait to see your journey down the bts rabbit hole :)
Hi Allie! You’re so sweet, thank you!!
Yay, another reaction.

So glad you’re enjoying
Cue!!!!!! Don’t you DARE hold out on me! INUNDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We’re in this together!
Very excited for your journey ahead this is a great reaction channel. Thank you! 💜
Thanks again, Steph!
😄Good job. I think you haven't yet caught onto how SMOOTH the transitions in BTS videos are. It looks like it's continuous video with the clothes changes and background and all, but it is just really really smooth transitions.
These guys… the whole crew… SOLID! Cant wait to see the newer stuff!

Thanks Jessica!!! Welcome!!!!
Given up on 3, 4, 5, 6 is a Korean idea that the youth are giving up on pretty essential components for happiness due to societal issues. They are just holding on to the last point which is Hope. There is no way you'd be expected to know the meaning.

I am a West Coast 78 liner who grew up listening to hip-hop, r&b, rap, & pop so even though I just got into BTS almost a yr ago I am obsessed w/the early more hip-hop driven eps. The song that made me ARMY is We On. I really liked the song then I saw the live performance live from Hong Kong & RM just had me captivated.
Hahaha. That Butter melting video is so epic!!?
maybe after some videos you can do a reaction for each of their solo songs live performances. Ooooh. I can't wait Sir!
