I've been to China twice and once in HongKong. HongKong was close to being taken back by the Chinese government. I'll never gorget when I checked into my hotel, I asked at the reception if he had a map and where we are. His first answer was "This is HongKong then pointed and in another tone..."that is China". I knew what he meant when a few days later I took the ferry to the mainland. How they behaved was disgusting. They went up to the buffets, piled their plates with food then threw away 2/3s of it. Waiting for transport was a nightmare, spitting everywhere. Restaurants? forget it. I ended up going to McDonalds as I was sick of being shoved and pushed and having 4 waiters serving me for a small meal. (Even there tho it was just the same there). Try crossing the road. It's a nightmare. Chinese drivers don't care about traffic lights. Actually. I wonder why they are there. I will never go there again. The only positive thing thing I could say was the China Eastern Airlines, they were good plus the fact they were flying me to a civilized country (Japan).

I was in Thailand a few years ago. when i was at a bathroom, i was washing my hands, when an older chinese man just pushed me away from the sink, there were about 3 sinks, only one was occupied by me. i pushed him against the door and told him in english, that he is not in China, where such a behaviour is common. i scared him off basically, he came after a few minutes with more chinese to confront me, they all ran off, after they realized, i was part of a bigger group, with bigger, meaner looking people. i nearly enjoyed this encounter, i think maybe he learned, that other people in different countries have a different perspective, when it comes to respect. Sorry for my english, i am not a native speaker.

Really glad to see you push back on this narcissistic behavior. This has happened several times to me, too. Sometimes, if an old Asian woman or man moves beside me to cut in line, I will just let them in and they will smile and say thanks. Other times, if they are assholish or from mainland VaChina, I will just say 'nope' and push myself into their way and block them. Also, @emperor don't worry about your English; it's awesome.

As someone who've been dealing with all kinds of Mainland Chinese people for long, here are some of my advices to all tourism industry workers, customer service workers, shopkeepers, or whoever have to deal with them:
No free gift, no complimentary, no tasting, no all-you-can-eat/take, no discount and bargaining - they won't even thank you for these. Don't expect them to follow any rule (either explicit or not), or act in a moral or civilized way. Don't dream of making them feel ashamed. They are not up to any normal conversation, reminder, explanation, warning or berating, so just go ahead and fine them/punish them/evict them/deny them from entrance/send them to the authority. Also, it's always a good idea to deal with them separately and differently from tourists/customers from other places.
If they jump the queue, spit, take/touch things that are not supposed to be taken/touched, make loud noise/squat/urinate/defecate in public, just confront them. Don't try to be gentle/polite/sympathetic with them, cos they'll just push their luck. Most of the time they'll pretend to be innocent or not speaking your language (but trust me - they always understand!), don't get tricked, and make sure they know you're serious. Some of them will yell back like a crazy bitch, ignore that, just stand your ground and don't waste your time having a "discussion" with them. But if they physically assault you, just don't back off and fight back, they may be weak but they fight like a wild goose, and they're always in a large group. Let them know you're not the one to fuck around before things get escalated. Finally, ignore their "racism" bullshit, what we do is to embrace good universal values and discriminate against uncivilized barbarians who make this world a worse place.

I was in Stockholm once and while eating at a very popular restaurant at Saluhall I saw a group of Chinese tourists who decided to eat at the same place where I was. I will never forget this...at the time, it was customary that if you wanted you could ask for a little free of charge refill of soup or ask for some extra bread at the place's counter and the person behind would gladly agree to it and proceed to do so. The Chinese didn't stop going for extras until the place run out of soup and bread. When that occurred they started complaining and demanding more free soup and bread as if it was their God's given right. That was really disturbing and embarrassing for everyone in there, specially the people running the place. Shortly after, maybe a year later or so, I went back to the same place and they stopped doing the free refills to avoid situations like the one I mentioned before. I have experienced other incidents involving Chinese tourists...NOT GOOD.
    Rude and poorly educated people.

Very sad for the business who was just trying to do a good thing for their customers. I know you aren't the business owner but just in case they read this or any business in a similar situation, I suppose they could try to offer the freebies at a low cost. So that they can still be generous to paying customers without risk of being taken advantage of by greedy Chinese tourists who wouldn't shell out the extra cost no matter how minimal.

I’m Australian. Not to generalise or sound racist, especially when it doesn’t apply to any other Asians or foreigners. Everyone waits for a bus in a civilised manner and wait in a line. Chinese people, who often look elderly come out of nowhere and want to be first to get in when the bus doors open. Most Aussies are docile and understanding and let it go, but it sadly is changing the culture in the country.
Almost everyone that drives patiently wait at zebra crossings to let pedestrians pass completely, before they drive, it is the law and it is the culture. There’s so many Chinese students who drive fancy cars and ignore zebra crossings and impatiently start driving almost hitting or brushing the pedestrians.
Thrashing the neighbourhood streets is disgraceful but the disgusting thing is my Chinese neighbours in the apartment drop everything from cigarettes to paper wraps on the food all along the apartment foyer and common areas while they are passing. I don’t know how they grow up or how bad the culture of basic cleanliness and social sense is back in China but what baffles me is that they don’t seem to have the ability to watch others or see how clean it is kept and adapt or make a tiny bit of effort.

So couple arrogance of being a minority of well off among your country people, AND, being in a nation that you were taught is inferior to China, and this is what you get... pieces of crud that go out of their way to disrespect you.

The cashier started shouting at them " why arent you respecting the line, who do you thinking you can push in , in front of this foreign gent," She really got upset.
And of course the lady who was doing the cutting in, shouted back and so these two are shouting at each other.
    Im watching and smiling.
Eventually a supervisor arrived, and calmed the cashier down and told her to take a break.

I remember some Chinese tourist girl getting slapped during a trip I took to an art museum in high school. She was generally being rude and just had an arrogant air surrounding her. She got a little weird about some girl’s hair in my class. Called it disgusting. Dunno if she had never seen dreads before but calling someone’s hair disgusting and not thinking you might face the consequences is funny to me. Chinese girl got the one two slapped outta her face. Teacher and security had to get involved. Chinese tourist girl learned a valuable lesson that day. People can and will slap some sense into you if you cross a line. I didn’t feel sorry for her. And her crying buckets just made me crack the biggest smile.

They need to be taught lessons on the spot, otherwise they would never learn.

I tend to think that it's a tactic that was one of the few options to get ahead in china. I worked at a place with one Chinese salesman and he always wanted special treatment over everyone else for his customers. Often asking for us in the warehouse to get things delivered without payment or the proper process for the warehouse. I was the warehouse supervisor and the warehouse manager used to block his stuff until it was approved by the office staff in sales. We would always check EVERY order for payment because a few times tens of thousands of dollars of stuff was delivered without payment. He would have stuff set to go for the next morning and would've answer his phone or email for us to find it wasn't paid for quite often. This happened once with another salesman and the client was worth millions and buying truckfulls and paid later that day but it was regular with the chinese salesman. It is like the efficiency of sticking to the process is ignored because they always want special treatment that makes a simple job complicated just because of impatience. You have to go and do all the paperwork and work it out with office staff later instead of everything being taken care of first.

I took an ocean cruise out of Shanghai. I will never do that again. Chinese people do not know how to queue. Most complaints here are about Chinese cutting in line. On the cruise, there were no lines. There were just mobs of people all trying to be the first person to enter whatever door or venue or restaurant was open. No line at all. People call them rude or ignorant, but I think it is just immaturity. I watch small children behave the same way. Their elevator etiquette is also bad. In the US when the elevator stops and the doors open, the people waiting to get on will wait for everyone to exit the elevator before trying to get on. Not so with the Chinese. When the elevator stops, if there 8 people in the elevator, the 8 people waiting outside will get in first. Now there are 16 people in the elevator and the 8 wanting to get off can't. Boarding the ship at a port of call, security kept yelling "One at a time! One at a time!" I did notice the that younger Chinese were more mature or aware of western ways and they were not as much trouble as the older ones. I knew someone who spent a couple years in China. He said that children pooping on public streets was common in China.

That's not surprising. A lot of people are appalled by behavior displayed in this video, as am I, however there is a simple reason behind this. MOST Chinese people live in the rural countryside with dirt roads and no indoor plumbing to this day. A small population live in big cities or towns with such amenities. These rural countryside Chinese use outhouses, wood burning stoves and well water to this day. So that's why they may defecate and urinate all over the place, because they simply are used to that when they may be a long distance from the nearest outhouse. This is what people here do when they camp. The rudeness comes from just being around generations of uneducated peasant farmers who can barely read, the only education they teach their children is to respect and follow the commands of their parents. All of these are a result of poverty. Has anyone ever been to the most poverty stricken areas in the US? Like a lot of the southern states where most people live in trailers and eat road kill. They're not all that different in manners except they may not defecate in public because we have indoor plumbing all over the place.

I've seen the Chinese on cruise ships at the buffet where they pile their plates high with all the seafood - lobster tails, crayfish, shrimps and fish......leaving none for the customers behind them who then have to wait 20 minutes for more to be cooked and brought out. Meanwhile the greedy Chinese can't eat all the seafood they grabbed and leave huge platefuls behind at their tables and it all goes to waste. It seems they have never been taught basic manners and courtesy. As for the student who racked up all the credit card debt to punish the capitalists.....well China is now the biggest Capitalist in the world....no more actual communism there except when they want to stamp out certain religions and ethnic groups. Their wealth has made them arrogant in the extreme......all those empty cities they built by kicking peasant farmer off their land, to build massive high rose apartment buildings and shopping centres no-one can afford to rent. We got in line about 45 minutes before the boat trip was to begin. There were maybe 15 people infront of us but I honestly think there was like 200 behind us in line.
Out of the blue - a chinese couple walked up to us and asked about what this line was for (in really broken english). We told them it was for a boatride and they just decided to cut in right infront of us. They VERY well knew what they were doing. We told them several times that you had to stand in line and that others had been standing there for a very long time. Everyone was annoyed at them but they didnt care one bit.
In the end when it became their turn - everyone snitched on them and they were told to go back in line by the boat operators.

I was in a 7/11 store in Plano, TX when a bus full of Chinese people stopped to get gas. A couple Chinese women opened the pastry case and began taking bites out of the donuts and putting them back. The clerk could hardly believe his eyes. He went over there and began yelling at the women who perceived it as an attack. It soon spilled into the parking lot. Some of their Chinese friends on the bus apologized and paid for the donuts. The women seriously thought it was OK to sample the donuts.

For this reason we have many Chinese, Korean, Taiwanese, etc. police here in the San Gabriel Valley, CA. The folks with bad manners are very provincial and probably just arrived from little villages, having been brought up on farms with no education and no manners in huts with no inside bathrooms. Many of them probably are unfamiliar with the concept of flush toilets and just defecate behind bushes in their normal day to day lives. It’s possible that they cannot read, so the signs in Chinese showing where the bathrooms are would make no sense. These people and their children are easy prey for human trafficking as most are in the U.S. illegally. If you see a woman in front of you at Macys with several bags of clothing that she intends to return, find another checker immediately! It’s a time wasting scam.

Suddenly a group of Chinese tourists with their tourist guide suddenly appeared before me. Of course I was angry and confronted the tourist guide. She seemed not to understand what I was talking about and I was talking in English. When the check-in counter opened, the ground steward called me to check in first. Unluckily that was not the end of it all. We were bound to the same destination. When the call for boarding came, they all rushed in front and was told to wait as it was not their turn to board as boarding was done in rows! So an unruly group, theg cant speak in the normal voice but speak loudly, even in phones, which was really very disturbing.

We were waiting in front of a shop were the handbags were originally sold over $3,000. Then, two Chinese girls came and stood behind us. One of the girls had two cell phones, and the other one was holding 5--6 credit cards. Then, suddenly, both of them coughed up huge phlegm on the beautiful tiles in front of the shop! As a Japanese person, if you hate Japan, you can criticize it in your own country, say bad things about it on social media, or do whatever you like. In reality, Japanese people don't really care what Chinese people say to them. But it's a different story if you come to Japan and cause trouble. Whether you like Japan or not, foreigners have an obligation to obey Japanese laws. People who ignore those laws and urinate or graffiti at shrines or on the street are not tolerated. Such things happen frequently, so the image of the Chinese-speaking world among Japanese people these days is really terrible.

Similarly Koreans hold a lot of anger towards the Japanese for similar reasons. The hate comes from what was done to them during past wars, and it wasn't just acceptable acts in war. Today they would be held accountable for those atrocious war crimes but they surrendered and got US protection afterwards. I don't hold your average Japanese civilian responsible for those atrocious acts, wars are seldom decided by the average person or what soldiers do in wars, but for the victims or descendants of the victims, it's understandable.

When we arrived there were many signs saying the same thing. There were also many tour groups already there, most from China. Many of them were screaming loudly throughout the cave frightening the glow worms. I remember being very appalled that these tourists were being loud when everyone is instructed to be quiet. At the time I didn't know that Chinese tourists have a bad rap for poor manners. It made me see that there's something wrong here. I live in Japan but originally from the States, I notice that every time I fly back to the U.S. when the flight is full of Japanese, they almost always fold their blankets and organize everything before they get off the plane, the same goes for when gathering their things, the Chinese on the other hand are loud, pushy and rude on the plane, they don’t care if you’re trying to to sleep, it’s all about them and when they leave the plane it’s always in shambles. Slippers and blankets everywhere seats not in the proper position. On my way back to LA a few years ago a woman jumped out of her seat while the plane was moving to dock, of course the seatbelt sign was still on, but she didn’t care, she then proceeded to open the over-head compartment and pulled out her bag when she did that she flung her bag over her shoulder striking my daughter in the face (she was sitting in aisle A seat) so hard she started to cry, the woman noticed this, shrugged her shoulders and said nothing, no apologies or anything, not one word. I immediately stood up and confronted, she screamed and yelled in Chinese and pushed me, I had to catch myself because I was ready to not be a gentleman anymore but another Chinese man who spoke English and the flight attendants tried to deescalate the situation, after that crazy encounter we gathered our belongings and proceeded to continue on to our connecting flight, that crazy woman ironically was going on the same flight as us, the entire time while we were in line waiting to get scanned she gave us the most evil stare and we stared right back she then ended up in the back of the plane and we were seated more in the middle, we didn’t see or heard from her after that, definitely a wild experience I’ll never forget.

I remember me and my Friend had a really bad experience with Chinese tourists in Japan. We were relaxing in a Beautiful Onsen. Just the two of us. And suddenly a group of about 15 Chinese tourists came in. The Kids Without washing themselves immediately jumped in and started splashing around like it was a pool. They were doing it in another section and they were young kids so I payed no mind. The adults came in after Properly washing themselves, and I thought maybe they would calm the kids down and say something, BUT instead, 2 OF THEM TOOK OUT THERE PHONES WERE FACE TIMING(their wives or something). THERE WAS NO PHONES ALLOWED AT ALL IN THE ONSEN FOR OBVIOUS REASONS. they were so loud, and all the women from their group could be heard being extremely loud in the women's baths. At the time I was really timid. I was 19 and I'm very small so I didnt say anything to them and left. I told the staff but dont know what happened after that because I left. I've had other bad experiences with Chinese tourists in Japan specifically.

I was in Hakone this past July, and as my friends and I waited at a bus stop we got to chatting (with our rather limited Japanese) with a sweet elderly couple who lived in the area, after a while the bus could be heard coming up the hill and soon enough the headlights were visible around the bend. At the first sign of those lights the noisy uncivilized horde poured out from the tourist gift shop and surged to the bus stop we were waiting at. This was when some hag started to slowly come around our party and then try to do the same to that old couple in front of us, and I was having none of that. I called out at and then stared her down and she seemingly gave up, only to moments later return with what I assume to be her granddaughter (or some random kid, who knows) of around 3 yrs old and basically tries to use the kid to wedge in front again. I had to physically block them by sticking my arms out and sidestepping as they tried to get around us. The old couple were evidently bothered by the fuss, but I knew that if I let that hag through the rest of the horde would have pushed us aside and piled forward without a care. Later as Jiji and Baa-chan got off at their stop they had warm smiles for my friends and I got a pat on the shoulder

No, they are truly human, but ones shed of traditional manners, which are always a learned behavior via culture. The CCP has used xenophobia, playing the victim and racist nationalism to stay in power, for over three generations. The old manners were mocked and replaced with this toxic mindset. It will take generations to restore, but only if the CCP is either gone or undertakes a serious campaign to indoctrinate good manners and a sense of being one people among equals in the world. But such an effort would be a huge loss of face and be an admission of a large error, so that rules that out.

In China, children use the gutters as a toilet. Their parents don’t put underwear or diapers on them to facilitate this behavior. They need to understand that their behavior is unacceptable in other countries. Also, they are aggressive and don’t wait their turn in lines. My experience at the airport in Hong Kong was horrendous because just as you got to the front of the customs line, another planeload of Chinese would arrive and swarm their way to the front. It was appalling!
