Thanks Rebecca the drawings and mark making are such a fundamental part of how I unpick things - which is why my course: Making Your Mark shares some of these approaches . Yes the wall is a delight!
Loved this Liz. Such a great way to capture the essence of the place without being representational. I’ve been in a fallow period and you’ve inspired me to get back to my art space. Thank you
Thanks Mary you are very welcome - I am so glad that it’s helped you. There is so much mileage in this type of approach and I’m planning to include it in a future course. We all have those times when we aren’t creating- be gentle with yourself and do what you enjoy .
Really enjoyed this Liz, you always inspire me, I usually stop midway in video to rush to my art desk and do some mark making😀 I just purchased the booklet of the exhibition I would of loved to see it in person and to meet you but alas Australia is a long long way away.
Lovely seaside town. I really enjoy seeing your beautiful country and how you interpret it in your art. Just ordered the booklet and cant wait for it to arrive.
Lovely to have a virtual trip to the seaside….Pembroke never fails…pity it’s just such a long journey. Fascinating how the piece is immediately transformed once folded into a book. What size sheet do you start with to make your square books? Glad the catalogues are selling well..they are beautifully produced
Hi Anne thanks for commenting- totally agree about the long journey! -the sheet size for the square books and this landscape one is A2. Thank you re: the catalogue - I’m glad because they were a lot of work and done by us independently of the gallery using an excellent printing company ( Printing.com) together with an excellent graphic designer who has a franchise with them.
Hi Lydia thanks for your comments. I did share a folding method in my Marking Seasons series ( see playlist). The approach I’ve used here will be in a future online course along with more detail of the whole process. Please watch out for that. When it’s available I’ll be sharing here & via my newsletter (lizackerleyart.com/see-more/) .
Really intriguing some of the pictures in the booklet are upside down from the original and work so well.what is the gorgeous blue you use please for the sea
Hi Sarah I guess when working in this way there isn’t really an ‘upside down’ especially when it gets turned during the work on location. The blue is a combined colour from paint ( which is probably manganese) and inks . The inks include turquoise & muted green. The colours are what I had rather than an attempt for colour matching!
Hi Janet no the book is created by folding the large sheet I showed all the way through. If you look at my playlist: Marking Seasons - I’ve done a similar thing here. I will be creating an online course that includes the development of these types of sketchbooks. Hope that helps.
@@LizAckerley Thank you, so I found several videos of Mark making seasons and one on how you make the cover - but not one on how to make the book? Is it just me 😂
Thank you for sharing your skills
Thanks Nicola you are welcome.
Thanks for bringing us along and sharing your sketches. Your work is captivating. I'm fascinated by that wall.

Amazing and inspiring! New sub… 💖🙏🏼💖
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Best nearly 15 minutes of my day😀 I was so interested to see how you dealt with the challenges of very different subject matter, light and colours. 😀
Hi Gilli- thank you!- Ha yes it certainly had its challenges and I found this sheet of mark making helped me to loosen up the most!
Very nice work and very nice atmosphere
Thanks very much Marek. Its a nice spot.
Thank you for sharing such beautiful scenery..!!
Your welcome- hope you enjoyed the artwork too
Your sharing continues to be fascinating for me and helpful too. I live right at the shore of the Pacific so this was interesting and familiar for me.
Oh that’s good that this is right up your street so to speak!

How interesting seeing you respond to new markmaking. Thank you for sharing.
You are welcome Leila
In an other environment you make other marks. I like the way you did them. And your booklet is beautifull. Enjoy your days in Pembrookshire.
Many thanks!

I love watching your process, thanks for sharing this.
Thanks Denise
Thank you for sharing your experience with new mark making. I guess the challenge is how much new detail you want to use.
For me it’s about starting afresh - what are the marks that make this place what it is.
Hello Liz, I’m an avid van of your work and wonder if you’d consider doing a short video about your folding method . Thanks for your attention :)

Ah big shapes first interesting
Hi Liz
Love the book
Did you paste the pictures into a sketch book?
Or did you make a book?
Thanks J

I was going to ask the same. I love the book 😊👍🏼

Concertina
Hi Gill this is a folded sheet rather than a concertina - I wasn’t quite sure what you meant.
