    After watching ur video awhile back I installed them on my rear bumper but I doubled mine. 1 on each side of the I-beam. I wished I had put 1 underneath the bumper and 1 over the top to support either direction. Have a BLESSED day 🙏

    Squirting some WD40 or maybe even dipping your drill bit in vegetable oil while drilling through thicker metal will help save your drill bit.

    Thank you for the video, I never knew those brackets existed. It is a perfect solution to getting the bikes out of the back of the truck. So where did you end up putting the spare tire? My husband and I get so many ideas from you and we appreciate everything you do.

    • @FateUnbound
      @FateUnbound  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We just put the spare tire in the bed of the truck. It takes up barely any room back there as opposed to these two bikes dominating the space.

    As one previously mentioned I was wondering if there is anything that precludes using even longer bolts and brackets on the inside as well. It should substantially increase the weight carrying capacity for electric bikes and mounts,

    I don’t think I would use these with e-bikes as the bouncing around on a bike rack behind a camper is quite extreme, and E bikes way twice as much as regular bicycles at minimum. I’ve been using these brackets for about three years with no trouble hauling to mountain bikes on a Kuat transfer 2.0 RV rated bike rack. I don’t know how sure how long my bumper would survive doubling the weight using two much heavier, E Bikes, as the thin wall tubing of the bumper will likely deform, or crimp, or tear, if you use the typical bolt on receiver hitch, which tend to crush the tube a bit when tightening it up and after a few seasons of hard use. I actually use two kits of these braces, placing one on each frame member on each side . After three seasons, I can see a little bit of denting in the light to bumper from the receiver hitch so the metal of the bumper is still the weakest link in the system. I will be getting e-Bikes in a year or so, and I will be welding on, an actual hitch receiver and reinforcing the bumper the old-fashioned way by welding more metal, or going with a much thicker 3/16 thick square bumper tube.

    David, you’re very brave trying/trusting those brackets will properly support the platform and your electric bikes! I wouldn’t do that myself so I’m looking forward to your test. Hope it goes well for you. BTW, I understand that you can double up on the brackets for extra assurance.
    Do you have an observation camera so you can keep an eye on that setup as you bounce down the road? Did you talk to the manufacturer of the brackets and mention to them that you take your trailer off road?

    Before you store the e-bikes on a trailer rack be sure to invest in appropriate security measures. The Liz Amazing and Mortons on the Move channels had bikes stolen off the back of their RV and address security measures. From Liz - ALWAYS keep your bikes locked - they had bikes stolen while in a campground. Also invest in appropriate bike covers. Nomadic Fanatic had a bike ruined apparently due to rain. Can’t wait to see the camper shell vids!

    • @FateUnbound
      @FateUnbound  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We've got the bikes covered by waterproof grill covers and we ran THICK chains through the frames of each bike. That's about the best we can do. They're safer there than in the back of our truck. I show all that in the next vid. That's unfortunate other channels have had things stolen.

    Nice video on the install. I have these same brackets installed for a couple of years and no issues yet. Since you will be putting your e-bikes on your bumper, I did want to point out that the weight rating is in ft/lbs not lbs. Depending how far out your your carrier goes, you could be pushing the rated spec of the brackets. Your bumper may have a weight rating attached to it as well, so maybe the bracket spec is less important for your application - some bumpers (like mine) are rated for nothing. Anyway, I enjoy your videos - happy camping!

    • @FateUnbound
      @FateUnbound  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ohhhh very interesting! It makes a lot more sense that the rating would be in units of torque and not units of force since the load on the bumper with this cargo carrier is mainly torque. Eyeballing where the center of gravity is though with the ebikes on the carrier we are still definitely under 500 ft-lbs

    With the amount of rust that's already forming on that Frame you should really think about getting por-15 and coating the frame to preserve it.

  • @meltdownman1
    @meltdownman1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Off topic question: Due to the effort to be more ecofriendly the auto industry has gone to replacing the electrical wiring with the rubber coating to that of coating material that the rodent love to eat! A lot of auto and truck damage out there and if you are in the middle of the woods and a porcupine gets in and eats away you could be in serious trouble. There are no tow trucks or repair shops for hundreds of miles! There are videos about this and what people are doing to protect their vehicles.
    Question: For new buyers out there have you found that you need to ask the manufacturers about the coatings on the wiring that is distributed throughout the engine compartment and living area? Once the mice, squirrels or porcupines etc. get in much damage could happen and trying to get rid of the small rodents is extremely difficult. If you are in the middle of nowhere (e.g., Alaska) there are no tow trucks or repair shops for perhaps hundreds of miles!

  • @KennethLongcrier
    @KennethLongcrier 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Careful mounting weight behind the trailer because that tends to reduce hitch weight and increase the chance of trailer sway.

    • @FateUnbound
      @FateUnbound  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep! Our hitch weight measured correctly still after this 👍

    • @KennethLongcrier

      @@FateUnbound
      Good to hear! There are those following your channel that don't understand that moving the Center of gravity of the trailer can have devastating results, so it's always a good reminder that most trailers are designed to transfer 10% of the trailers GVWR to the tow vehicle (e.g. for a 7000lb trailer, you should expect 700lb hitch weight) and the more of that weight transferred behind the trailer axle, the more unstable the rig is to tow.

In the past they stated that thanks to us they can completely support themselves with their "youtube business". Now they decide they that rather than having the David and Jen...er...Roe show it will be the David show with many videos on mods, repair and maintainence, with the occasional walk or bike ride.
      Most of us don't RV full time and your adventures give us ideas on places to consider to visit using a van or tent. Now all we get is blah, blah, blah with no Roe or parts other than Sweety giving a classic goodbye.
