- This is the failed pilot to Hanna-Barbera's "The B.B. Beegle Show", featuring Joyce DeWitt from Three's Company and Laugh In's Arte Johnson as the guest stars.
This was a failed attempt to cash-in to the then still ongoing "The Muppet Show", and it definitely shows. The pilot premiered on Canada's CTV on November 22, 1979. The pilot would then air on several TV stations across the United States around January 1980 (but would appear occasionally on local stations as late as September).

Ah, I see they're going with the "Random mouth flaps and vague flailing with a hint of 'What the hell's an eyeline?'" style of puppetry.
Which is too bad, because the puppets are actually quite decent

If the special hadn't been cancelled, it would have been a Saturday morning series produced for CBS.

I've never heard of this either. But I recognize Michael Bell was the voice of B.B. Beagle. He was also Allstar on the Snorks and Drew Pickles on Rugrats.

The character's name reminds me of another H-B cartoon: Beegle Beagle of Grape Ape.

The puppets are actually quite well-made. Too bad they probably got destroyed or are rotting somewhere now.

Biggest problem with this show is the mediocre puppeteering. The writing is passably OK for the era, but the puppets themselves really let this down.
They should've switched facilities to LA and instead, have regular Hanna-Barbera composer Hoyt Curtin do honors on the music.
Agreed. The puppets are all wrong, and terribly random to the eye.
Not only that but it would have been a animation series instead as opposed to being a live action puppet show.

Joyce DeWitt was smoking hot! But this was just painfully bad. I can see why this never became a regular show.

Why was I thinking of Jim Henson and a certain type show he did?
If I do time-travel...I would convince Sid and Marty Krofft or the actual Jim Henson to aid Hanna-Barbera with this program.
This is a direct rip-off of THE MUPPET SHOW - why would Henson help the competition? And I doubt the Kroffts would be interested either.

I am surprised ITC and Henson associstes didn't sue for gimmick infringement.
I'm sure they would've if this got picked up as a full show!

I think this show wouldn’t be so hard to watch if the lip synching was good
