One of the best songs I've ever heard from one of the greatest British bands ever. I was 19 when this came out, now I'm 50 and this track is still the mutts nuts.
Black midi? theyre fucking incredible. Sleaford mods? No, there's still lots of incredible musicians coming out of Britain, probably always will be. But its a different world now. Music as an art form has pretty much died completely. Not just in europe, but globally. Kids all wanna be youtubers or streamers or gangsta rappers now. Which is extremely fucking depressing. They dont buy music anymore. If they buy anything, they buy spotify subscriptions, which pays musicians pennies to the 10k streams. An infinitely worse deal than bands were getting from predatory record labels back in the day. Kids today are much more likely to binge watch youtube commentary videos or watch Hassan Piker eat on twitch for 9 hours than they are to sit down and listen to music. All that combined (no public interest from young people, the lifeblood of cultural movements, and no money to be made) makes the development of a new indie subculture movement like punk or grunge near impossible. Id better stop there or ill get upset and jump off a bridge lol... get me started on this subject and ill never shut up. Havent even touched on movies yet... One superhero movie after another after another after another... Roadmaps for 20 years worth of more superhero movies... As for novels and literature, thats over. Novels are deader than the dodo. The internet has completely killed subculture, brutally murdered it. Take me back to the world of the Smiths and Nirvana and Thomas Pynchon and Quentin Tarantino please. You can keep the internet.

The Stone Roses were pretty cool. I think they were/are pretty underappreciated. 'FOOLS GOLD', and 'I WANT TO BE ADORED' are two of their coolest songs.

While in the UK in the early 90's, I tried but failed to synchronize my work schedule with their concert tours a few times, to no avail. I know they got back together in 2011 and toured for a while, but haven't done so since 2017. If they ever do play live again, go see 'em!

When I was travelling from one Gawdforsaken military outpost in the Saudi and Kuwaiti deserts to another at the close of Operation Desert Storm in 1991, I had only my Sony Walkman for company (yes, I know that dates me to the Late Cretaceous Period). Unfortunately, I lost all of my cassettes to enemy action (or was it carelessness?) save one: The Stone Roses' eponymous first album. It was a band that was virtually unknown in the USA at that time save to a few Terpsichorean cognoscenti, including a friend of mine who gave me a copy of the album. I must have listened to that tape a hundred times at night to drown out the sounds of jets and generators, and I still consider it among my top 10 favorite albums. While in the UK in the early 90's, I tried but failed to synchronize my work schedule with their concert tours a few times, to no avail. I know they got back together in 2011 and toured for a while, but haven't done so since 2017. If they ever do play live again, go see 'em!

Trying to play this on drums tripped me up for years, always had the pattern but it was the subtleties and nuances in texture i could never recreate. Genius result from a genius band!
