Library of Congress Gershwin Prize honoring Carole King 5-27-13. My (and many others') 2 favorite singer songwriters singing the only duet I have ever heard them do together.
Makes you realize how many celebrities selling "music" today have zero talent. I'll listen to these two fabulous men singing a song written by a fabulous woman any day of the week!
In a world where composition was male-dominated, back in the 60s and 70's, isn't Carole King a genius for having written so many beatiful songs that now belong to the "eternal repertory of masterpieces in popular music"?
Joni Mitchell, Buffy Ste Marie, Laura Nyro, Matreca Berg, Karla Bonoff, Nancy Griffith, Lucinda Williams, K.T. Oslin, Gail Davies, Cindy Church, Sylvia Tyson . . . there were a lot of women songwriters in the '70s - and many of them are still writing and still working, today . . .
Thank you for the list. I'm not north-american and I didn't know most of the singers of your list, except for Joni Mitchell and Lucinda Williams. Joni Mitchell is an extraordinary songwriter and singer. But Carole King was the first among them to have her songs recorded and reached the top of the charts; it was 1959. Besides, she has got a worldwide recognition and success. I have just emphasized this aspect as I made my comment.
Great tune. You did it justice. Many years ago, I played this, and others on the street corners of Toronto. Keep it up. It's been two years since you recorded this, and I sincerely hope you have continued to find the love of music to help carry you through life's trials and tribulations.
What a great rendition for these 2 icons of music industry ,proud to be in the generation where in we have a very good musicians, songwriters like them..Crying in the rain by Everly brothers👏👏👏❤
Don't bet on it. Some many politicians co-opt music from liberal artist's that render's the original intent meaningless. It's easy to see whenever an artist demands someone not use their music
Playing in the White House in front of the President is awesome. The 2 best songwriters of their era, together, both very nervous. With Carol King there too!
So appreciate this. .. a beautiful blending of these two great musical talents. . And, I, too, did not know Carol King wrote this Have seen James Taylor recently in concert + Billy Joel, 34 yrs ago. Unforgettable
Billy is a master impersonator of other singers while still sounding like himself. The guy can morph into anyone he chooses - Diana Ross, Ronnie Spector, Ben E. King, Lennon OR McCartney, Elvis and here just the right amount of Don Everly. James is just James, unmistakable, always perfect.
As many did I only knew the A-ha version of this song. Then I remember reading the credits on their greatest hits album and it read Carole King as the author of this tune. I was in disbelief like, it must be somebody named Carole King other than THE Carole King? I only confirmed it way later when internet came around haha.
These two careers paralled each other, how and why did it take this long for those two to do a song together? They Sound good together here, imagine them singing together 30, 40 years ago when their voices were at their peek.
I would have loved that too, but I have to disagree with you about James' voice. I've seen him loads of times since 1999 and his voice is better than it ever was in the 70s and 80s
Makes you realize how many celebrities selling "music" today have zero talent. I'll listen to these two fabulous men singing a song written by a fabulous woman any day of the week!
Not fair to compare others to these two legends. It’s not as though every artist of the past was up to their level of talent.
moron
The piano man and the handyman ❤️
Yeah!! 😍😍
Hahaha...

two of the best! wow that was outstanding!
Amazing performance. I'm sure if politicians listened to music like this more often there would be less wars in the world.
I just said exactly your words!
Don't bet on it. Some many politicians co-opt music from liberal artist's that render's the original intent meaningless. It's easy to see whenever an artist demands someone not use their music

Tremendous rendition of a great Carole King/Howard Greenfield song and the only one they'd write as a team. James & Billy should tour together! 🎼💞
Excuse me, sir. This is an Everly Bros. tune. Though, Carole King DID cover it.

@@ginocandia1516Even if rarely played, it's constantly in our hearts where the lyrics are tattooed. .
Sweet Baby James... Getting old is So awful... "The way of all flesh..." as Moses put it so succinctly...
