    I own a 2021 Sienna Limited. Last night I loaded 6 adults and one child in a car seat in to my van. We drove 140 miles over undulating Oklahoma state highway roads, passed a few cars and trucks, went up a few hills, and cruised for a time at 78 mph (80 was the speed limit.)
    There was plenty of pickup each time we over took slower vehicles going around 74 mph. We were also traveling directly into a 14 mph wind. Because of of the heavy load, our speed, and the headwind, we only averaged 32 mph.
    Last week, with only my wife and myself aboard, on our 850 mile trip to Oklahoma from Alabama, we averaged 39.3 mph - registered both on our display AND on the amount of gas we put in the tank. On that trip we drove a little slower at between 67 and 70 mph which accounted for the higher mpg. On the return trip from Oklahoma to Alabama next week, I anticipate getting 40 to 41 mpg because of an expected tail wind.
    I’m 85 years old and have owned many cars and minivans during my life. I traded in a 2018 Odyssey V6 for the Sienna. Yes, the Sienna makes more noise when accelerating, but the results are about the same. I think back to 1994 when I bought a Dodge Grand Caravan with all the bells and whistles - I opted for the biggest engine they offered (a 165 horse, 3.8 liter power plant.) The 2021 Sienna sports a 245 horse V4 engine.
    In all, I liked your review. Keep up the good work.

      When you say "32 mph" at the end of the second paragraph, and "39.3 mph" towards the beginning of the third; Did you mean mpg?
      (Not sure. Just want to verify.)

    We purchased the 2021 Sienna XSE here in Canada earlier this year. If your after a fast do-everything mini van, go Honda Odyssey; If your after a luxury mini van, go Chrysler Pacifica. If you want a good combo of both, proven resale value, proven reliability and unbeatable fuel economy, go Sienna. We purchased it because 80-90% of our driving is inner city and constantly in stop and go traffic (under 60km/hr). We have had the car a few MONTHS now, and I have only filled it up a twice. I got 1000kms out of a single tank which cost me $80 to fill. I never have to plug it in to get electric charging and most of my trips end up being 80% EV mode. I've tasted the fruit, and now there's no going back.

      onda still hasn't figured out how to resolve it's VCM issues. There's so many problems with the current Odyssey. Sienna all the way.

    Not all minivan buyers are families with a load of kids. My wife and I are retired, in our fifties, and love our minivan. We like the comfort and space. If we go shopping and see something large that we want to buy, we can, because we have plenty of space. We also like and can afford all of the amenities. Ours is a 2017 Sienna Limited Premium AWD. I do like the V6, and as you pointed out, not sure the 4 cylinder hybrid would have enough get up and go, but then again, 36 mpg is hard to ignore. BTW, our other car is a Dodge Challenger Shaker for fun! 😂 As always, enjoyed your video! You guys are great!

    If I want a fast vehicle, I would buy a sports car. This is minivan that is rated at 36 MPG which is a game changer. The Sienna has more room and versatility, than the Highlander hybrid and cost $4,000 less. Sure I like the Highlander hybrid, but not when the Sienna has more value.

    • @richardtausch2
      @richardtausch2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Sienna having more value only comes down to what you want or need the most. I chose the Highlander Hybrid because A) is better fitted to the power output, B) it has a higher Seating position and better headroom (fact) and the height is surprisingly less than a half inch difference, C) it has a greater ground clearance, D) JD Power ranks its reliability higher, E) the center console on the Sienna feels too claustrophobic because it feels like the cabin space is cut down. I don't need the extra cargo space of the Sienna so I'm good there. F) the Sienna is noisier in the cabin. The value comes down to both price and what your wants/needs are. In my area, the price difference at the time of this writing is only $3K, and the waiting is longer for the less produced Sienna.

      Everytime I think about buying something other than a minivan, I look at what I am getting for that money... a smaller interior space, less cargo space, less amneties and generally cramped driving space. Comparably, everything else should be 10s of thousands less than minivans. You have to go top of line Suburban territory to come close.

    Great review as always Andrea & Zach. 4 cyl hybrid is perfect for most families since 80% of their driving is done in the city. The extra power would be great for the highway but you have to ask yourself where will you drive this vehicle mostly. I agree with Zach, these should be cheaper in cost. Gone are the days for a less than 20k van to beat up for 10 years.

    Thanks for explaining that new air bags is the reason why the middle seats can't be removed. We have a 2015 Sienna, and take the middle seats out all the time. When I heard that the 2021 Sienna didn't have this option, I was very surprised/disappointed.

    • @ikelee

      Technically the seats can be removed but not so conveniently. You just need to take out 4 bolts and unclip a wiring harness. Then the seats will come out.

    Great review as always. Just finished a leisure rental f(XLE) or a wedding. Almost 1800 miles from Ohio to Florida for a wedding, loaded up with gear and people. Drove her hard and averaged 32.7 mpg. The engine/CVT combo revs like crazy when you need power. Annoying yes; dealbreaker? I don't know. We rented it to see just what it would be like. Looking to buy in two years so we will see what is on the market at that time.
    I will say the Sienna was very comfortable. We were in the car for 15 hours; long day but it was okay.

  • @ElijahsAba

    In all the years we’ve had minivans, I think we might have removed the 2nd row seats once. As for the Chrysler’s “Stow and Go” seats, maybe they’re okay for kids but they’re certainly not comfortable enough for adults.

    • @RicardoRoams
      @RicardoRoams 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think if Toyota just added more sound insulation, it would do wonders for the perception that the 4cylinder is working hard. That's what they did with the Highlander. Hey guys, the better fuel economy with more weight compared to Highlander can be achieved through a couple of way. Better aerodynamics, lower rolling resistance tires, higher gearing if engine is same (will sacrifice speed tho), also if ignition timing was pulled back a bit, or on a Atkinson cycle it could eek out extra mpgs. highlander Hyb is about 7.5 sec, so the 11s to 100, im thinking gearing is quite low to get revs down on the hwy.

    I love the new Toyota Sienta van based off of the … wait for it … the Yaris chassis! Available only in Japan and other south east Asia markets. Sounds crazy but for me it would be perfect for this retired senior’s needs. I’ve had 2 Siennas over the years and love both.
    By the way since the time that you’ve made this video, I’ve discovered that there’s an easy way now to remove those seats and disable the airbags. Just a little plug-in dongle and voilà the airbags are disabled without any warning and check engine lights etc. and then it’s just a matter of taking the seats out. Quite frankly I have no need to do that but I have seen it done by other users that wanted the extra room.

    Great review. I test drove two and agree with everything you observed. I really like this van for its handling, seat comfort and overall interior styling except for the fact the 2nd row is not removable. That and the buzzy engine are the deal breaker for me. We have the Odyssey and it hauls eight people and their stuff no problem, pulls an 18’ boat no problem, loads full 4x8 sheets flat after removing the middle seat, and large items can be hauled with the middle seats forward and rears flat. Ours is 7 years old with 180,000kms no issues...

  • @ybing
    @ybing 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    All the reviewer keep saying the Odyssey can remove the 2nd row and very convenience for cargo, please try slide something from the rear and see how many times you need to try to lift your cargo, the 2nd row has the "magic slide" raise up like few inches... and the latching points behind the 2nd row also make your loading much harder

  • @lucas3lucas
    @lucas3lucas 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was surprised to learn that the new Sienna comes with ventilated rear brakes. Why is this? Do other minivans do? are they expecting big break loads? Being a hybrid I would expect most of the brake load to be done by the electric motors.

  • @aggropa

    Only top trims have a heated steering wheel in the US, and many don’t even have heated seats. Many Toyota models such as the RAV 4 are the same. I want a mid trim with heated steering wheel and seats, as well as a sunroof. I also don’t want regular leather that normally comes in trims with a heated steering wheel. Toyota is seriously behind when it comes to this. Also, the prices are insane for the specs, and used models are almost the same price.

  • @jasonebrahim3641
    @jasonebrahim3641 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think the reason why heated steering wheel is only in the 9 and 3 position is to encourage your hands to only be in those positions, as we are taught when driving the 9 and 3 is where your hands are to be.

    This hybrid system is inadequate for the Sienna considering if you use it as intended to haul people around. This van would be a slug with 5 or more people in it. The gas mileage is great for a minivan. I just bought a 2021 Venza a loved it. My wife especially loved the Venza for the routine commute to work and shopping. I wished the Venza had the more powerful hybrid system from the Sienna & Highlander. The Sienna and Highlander need a more powerful hybrid system producing 270 + hp. I feel minivan buyers will gravitate towards the Honda Odyssey to have the V6 to haul passengers around in comfort.

    Toyota basically could have just said physicians, that who buys their minivans, more specifically Indian, Middle Eastern and Asian physicians. Out of that demographic in just my subdivision, about 75% of the wives have fully loaded Siennas or Odysseys. It has to be one of the most intensely loyal demographics along with Lexus RX and BMW X5 buyers. We had one wife that switched from a Sienna to a BMW X7, but otherwise they always buy or lease the same vehicle over and over. One just got a blue Odyssey which threw me for a loop, it must be the only one in existence, I don't think I have ever seen an Odyssey in anything other than white or gray, every time I see the blue one I think man, something is just not right about this. lol
