We don't know for sure Newton died a virgin. He apparently boasted on his death bed that he had "never known a woman", and he seemed to be very uninterested in women as a whole, meaning he could've possibly been either asexual or gay. However, he had a very close friendship with a man who he shared a room with for 20 years, and seemed to have a pretty tumultuous falling out which gave him a nervous breakdown and apparently they never met or spoke again after that point. Some speculate that they could've been romantically involved, but there is no way to know for sure.
