That was great, and super helpful. We just got an ATEM Mini Pro ISO, and we are soaking up as much advice from other users and we can. Thank you foe sharing this.
This is perfect timing. I have been looking at creating a similar effect that sits two feeds side by side. I will just use squares instead of circles !!
Thanks a lot man! Was looking for this for weeks... Now that I saw how easy it actually is, I kinda ask myself why I didn't see it in the first place while testing out the software. Well... Thanks!
Nice! Funny thing is it took me a long time to realize I could do this too! That "pattern" tab has been there the whole time I just never really looked at it much before!
Reading the XML macro code @7:51 it seems the macro recorder saves only the most recently selected state of each of the interface items you toggle back and forth to set up your macro. That's really a saving grace - if it recorded each back-and-forth toggling step it would generate a lot of spurious macro code.
Yes, with the caveat that if you insert any other instructions in between those will be recorded. But yes you can toggle a button back and forth and if you don't press anything else in between only the last state is saved.
Aaron, can you show how use MAKRO on control Panel fo Atem Mini Extrem PRO ISO? there is so much buttons 1 to 10 1 to 6 etc but just 1 to 6 are for makros? why? Great video; I am using these steps to create as much Pip during production (using the ATEM Mini Pro) and spending less time in post creating the PiP in Resolve. Is there a way to tell the macro to turn off the Pip if during shooting I switch to the head shot to talk at the camera and turn the PiP back on when switching camera views to the overhead shot and have the PiP talking head? I will have the ATEM off to the side of my work space.
Hey Aeron! What's up? By using the ATEM Mini with my new OBS Studios UI, your stream experience will be a pleasure. with 3 different font sizes, bigger T-BAR for precise manual control over transitions, better audio control nobs, new icons that represents what you are actually adding on the Source area and much more. Few free to get your copy, it's free. Also, I show how to control ATEM mini to deliver 4k streams and never touch the mini for switching the cameras. Enjoy it!
Maybe a dumb question, but I’m new to ATEM: so u just showed how to setup the PIP, but what about the background? You’re using your computer screen, but what if you want to keep that same PIP on a different camera angle (not the camera angle IN the PIP, but the background)?
The background will be whatever your main camera angle is, which you can control with the large buttons on the ATEM or in the "program" section in the ATEM Software Control app!
Thanks, Aaron - I have used the spotlight in the past. Now that I have a green screen at my disposal, I have been using the upstream with mp1. It makes a great head and shoulders anywhere on the screen as well. :)
We just got the atem mini pro. The other day we actually were able to set it so that anytime we switched from our main camera to our secondary camera, it automatically did a picture in picture with the main shot still showing small in the corner.. We since have not been able to figure out how we set it to that lol... Any idea?
There aren't many videos covering upstream PIP pattern subject. Is it possible to customize the shape of thePIP square pattern to parallelogram or trapezoid, By moving the outlines of the pattern? or is it possible to upload a complete customized pattern shape via photoshop?
Good morning, Please help! I can't figure out what i'm doing wrong. When I try to go live to TH-cam and Facebook neither platform see my ATEM Min Pro as a webcam. I'm connected via wifi to the internet, and sharing my internet connections through my ethernet connection from the ATEM to my iMac. What am I missing? Thank you.
Sounds like you've got something a bit mixed up. If you want to use the ATEM as a webcam you need to plug it in via USB to your computer. But since you have the Pro, you can stream from it directly to TH-cam/Facebook without using it as a webcam. You'll need to find the stream key from TH-cam/Facebook and enter that in the ATEM software control app, then the "on air" button will begin streaming.
Aaron Parecki Yeah, I think I got this all kinda mixed up lol. I think the problem with the ethernet is because I’m not going directly to a router is going from iMac to the ATEM and connection over Wi-Fi is not stable. However, when I plugged in a USB type C to the ATEM to the iMac Facebook and TH-cam recognized it instantly streaming is fine with no issues, now I lose the ability to record to my external hard drive. I’ll keep fiddling with it and changing out cables to see if I can figure this thing out. Thank you so much!
@@terryjstudios Yeah your best bet will be to plug both the ATEM and your mac into a wired router to your internet connection, avoiding wireless. Then stream directly from the ATEM rather than using it as a webcam. That frees up the USB for recording as well!
Great tutorial. I am wondering if you can create a telestrator effect using an iPad HDMI feed into the ATEM. I envision this as a green background on the iPad, writing or drawing on it with the apple pencil in another color. Taking that feed to the downstream(?) keyer and placing the telestrator effect over the output video. Am I right in thinking this can happen this way? Note: Iso Pro is on order but B&H is closed right now, so I cannot test this myself. - Thanks for your thoughts.
Absolutely! I've done that before during presentations. There's a couple tricks to make that work but it's definitely doable! Great idea for another video.
@@aaronpk Thanks Aaron. I am working on some remote learning set-ups and having the professor be able to draw/write over an existing video in real-time would be a bit of a game changer. And a huge editing saver :p

Setup will be 1 camera plus the PowerPoint which will be displayed from a second computer as input 2 on the Atem Mini. Do any of your videos address this scenario?
@@aaronpk when I asked, my idea was to some sort of PIP and switch back and forth between that and the speaker. Now I've been told it's going to be a hybrid zoom, so I've got more to figure out.
I do have a video about the challenges (and solution) for doing a presentation in zoom while getting the best quality recording out of it, here's the link: th-cam.com/video/I473FLo-Bug/w-d-xo.html Unfortunately this requires a bit of extra gear, but hopefully this will give you an idea of how things connect.
Hello Aaron, thank you very much for this instructive video. I have rebuilt the CirclePiP. However I would like that it disappears in certain programs, e.g. MP1 on Program. How I do this? Or: What have I done wrong? Thanks for an answer! Dokofan
You can make macros to cut to another camera and turn off the key at the same time. If you don't mind it always turning off for any camera cut there is a setting in the ATEM for that too.
I'm not quite sure what you're asking. The reason to create a macro is that you might be using the upstream key for doing other things too like greenscreening a camera, so the macro lets you quickly switch between different settings in the upstream keyer
Hey Aaron great video as always. Have you figured out a way to do a double box type of graphic on screen with two different people? Think like the news station where they have an anchor in LA and one in NY and they're side by side in boxes on screen. Is there a way to "hack" the system so to speak to make that work on a mini?
Unfortunately the best you can do on the ATEM Mini (actually all the models up until the ATEM 1 M/E) is do a full screen side by side split view if you're willing to have one person stand off to the side of the frame. If you add a second ATEM Mini then you can do what you're suggesting though!
@@aaronpk Ok interesting. Adding a second ATEM Mini is probably much cheaper than buying a 1ME. How hard do you think it would be to make a macro, use two ATEM Minis and pull it off? I have a pretty sweet rig I'm building out I think you'd like. I wish I could comment a pic of it. 6U Rackmount case, dual monitors with SDI and HDMI pass through, a hyperdeck mini, web presenter and mac mini all with a gigabit switch. I'm hoping to use it to bring in virtual callers like Zooms or Skypes or might double up as a PowerPoint computer when I need to record an iso of the PowerPoint feed. Lots of cool options and it's in such a tiny rack case.
