While I'm running ProPresenter, OBS and the Atem Control Software on the same computer for this demonstration, I DO NOT recommend doing this in an actual production environment. Run ProP and OBS on separate computers. You'll probably be fine running the ATEM Control Software along side either of those.
Good day sir, thanks a lot for your videos and explanations, they are life saver...Please, could you instruct me on how to make my lower third design transparent or how do reduce the opacity of the lower third image design. I have designed lower third image that my lyrics will lay on. I am using easy worship and the Atem mini to stream directly on Facebook. Note I am not using OBS because i could not get the video and audio to sync, so i am streaming to Facebook directly without any software in between...Thanks for your help. Eddy/the Netherlands
Does the Atem Mini Pro change your thoughts on this recommendation? I would like to use a a Mac Mini to run Propresenter 7 to send via HDMI to our Mini Pro which will upstream through an Ethernet internet cable to livestream on our TH-cam channel.
Ballast Media In this case you are using one laptop for the ATEM software, propresenter & OBS, using the hdmi, vga & usb output. What if for your presentation laptop, you are already using the only hdmi output on your computer to display on a projector? Can you use an HDMI splitter to send to both the projector AND the ATEM switcher from the same computer? Thanks!
I have one MacBook Pro for Streaming and another for presentation. When I run presentation MacBook into the atem mini, I am getting a buzz in the live stream. Any suggestions

Hello and thank for your very well explained videos. Would you happen to know if this lyric presentation will work with Proclaim? ive decided the best way to do this is to run the atem output through a computer with ProPresenter and let ProP do the streaming. Can either use the atem as a web cam or you can use atems hdmi out into computers hdmi caputure so you can still use the ISO recording on the atem’s usb c port. No keying required. With ProP at the centre of operations you got a lot more power and you dont need to deal with ATEM’s awkward clunkiness. I dont have an atem extreme yet but that is the goal. then i will use Mix Effects to use it’s super source capabilities with ease (came out long after this video was made). Im assuming pro presenter didnt have streaming at the time this video came out.
How do you connect your lyrics and video showing together on obs I thought you used different capture, so how did you mix the two together from your obs or from your ATEM mini ?????
Looking for a low cost camera option for the Atem Mini Pro switcher. Do you have any suggestions? We plan to mount 3 cameras. We don’t have the budget yet to buy a camera that we can control the zoom.
Hi Praise the Lord I am really thankful to you and God for helping us online learning about Black magic switcher in cameras. This is Pastor Akashdeep Sharma from India I need more help I want to start a online TV channel 4 hours everyday for that I am planning to use to black magic 4K and ATEM Mini with overlays logo on prerecorded Sermons, interview and more programs to share Christ. On TH-cam and Facebook and latter on broadcast TV if you have made any video about this all please share the link with me it's not please help me. this is Pastor Akashdeep Sharma from India
The Atem Mini does not support NDI, but if you take the video from the Mini in to a computer, then you can use a program like OBS to combine in NDI video.
Very informative video. We used our for the first time Sunday. We had issues. Has the audio sync video come out yet?? I noticed Sunday that our video and audio did not line up well at all. We tried syphoning our lyrics from Pro 7. The syphon and audio lined up perfectly, but the video lagged behind. I am not sure how to fix this really. I plan to try NDI tomorrow. If that doesn't work, I will go will the settings mentioned in this video. I also found a few features that could help lessen the workload on our iMac to hopefully help the lag. With that said, our youth ministry uses OBS Streamlabs and the ATEM, and it is synced up well. They do not send lyrics though. Any ideas on what the issue might be? Do you think we overloaded the cpu running pro 7 and obs causing the video to lag? Do you recommend NDI? We have the ATEM mini pro
Any number of things in the chain can cause an audio/video sync issue. You can try and just do a time alignment - there is actually a delay in the ATEM now so you can delay the audio by frames. but I show you how to measure the alignment in this video, but don't make the change in OBS, make the change in the ATEM: th-cam.com/video/UCmr0KwbXxA/w-d-xo.html
I get down a bit of a rabbit hole when trying to decide a computer to purchase that could do this. I'm not overly tech when it comes to the computer portion. We have the atem mini pro up and running and would like to add lyrics. What are the specs of your laptop?
Fantastic video: I currently connect my laptop (ProPresenter) to a 3 way HDMI splitter to connect my laptop to the 3 TVs in the church. I will like to replace the 3 way HDMI splitter with a 4 way HDMI splitter so that I can connect the 4th HDMI output in the HDMI splitter to one of HDMI in in the ATEM MINI PRO ISO (installing a multi camera set-up at church for the first time) and want to maintain my current laptop to connect to the ATEM MINI PRO ISO, problem is it only has one HDMI slot. Will this work?
If this set-up doesn’t t work then can someone tell me how to make this work since My problem is I only have one HDMI output on my laptop. So how can I get two HDMI outputs from my laptop to the HDMI splitter as well as the ATEM MINI PRO ISO?
Are you wanting the same signal from the laptop sent to all these destinations? or are you trying to get 2 different display (content) outputs from the laptop?
I am also interested in trying this set-up: I will buy a dongle that has an additional hdmi port, so I will end up with two hdmi output ports. The one that comes built in with the computer and the one that comes with the dongle. I will use one for the 3 TVs (3 hdmi splitter) and one for the ATEM MINI PRO ISO (Lower thirds from ProPresenter 7). This should work right?
Yes, usually you'll want to send 2 outputs from PP to your ATEM. #1 is the full screen graphics, just a duplicate of what's going to your in-house screens. (Use a splitter/distributor to go to in-house and the ATEM). #2 is a 2nd output from the PP computer that you configure with looks to be your lower thirds that you will key over your video - so most likely setup with a green screen background so you can chroma key the green out on the ATEM.
I don't believe there is a way anymore unless you already have the module. And purchasing the module you need would cost more then upgrading. So, upgrade to 7.
Ballast Media thank you! We ended up just using an upstream Luma flying key to display the same image from the house. Not what we want overall, but achieves the feel until we upgrade. Thank you for your videos and for your response! Blessings!
That's what this is for. The presentation software can be used at the same time to display lyrics in the venue as well as generate the overlays. Take a look at the videos earlier in this series on the ATEM Mini for how to live stream from the Mini.
One snag I ran into was that I couldn't get any input from any PC into the ATEM. I had to go into a windows advanced super nitty gritty display properties menu and then change my output settings to the correct framerate etc to get the feed to show up, per a different tutorial video. Might be worth mentioning.
So I know this may be a dumb question. So we have an atem studio 4k. We run four cameras via sdi in and then run a dedicated out on our mac studio to it as well. I get how to do the lower thirds for lyrics but what about after the worship through music and the pastor has a powerpoint that has been imported into pro presenter how would that get handled.
Usually I run both the "lower third" output from the computer, and the main screen output to the switcher. So, during sermon when they use full screen slides, you can switch to that in your video as well. That is usually the simplest solution short of generating two sets of content.
Hi there. I’m using the software called Proclaim. How can I create a graphic with alpha channel and gray to create a linear key out of Proclaim. I’m trying to make a transparent lower third. Is it possible with my computer and software to create a linear key using atem extreme?
thanks for this video, which is helpful for the initial selection and set up for the options (luma, chroma and mask). But, during a service, how do you set up for the numerous “slides” for the lyrics? For example, for the opening/welcoming song, there could be a refrain plus three verses. So how to switch from verse 1 to refrain, verse 2 then back to to refrain, etc., while possibly switching camera angles as well? Thanks in advance!
How are you sending your lyrics to the Atem? PP6 doesn't do multiple formatted outputs without a purchased add-on, so you'd have to use something like the stage display to send a black-background with your lyrics to the Atem. (They don't sell the add-on anymore because it cost more then upgrading to PP7)
When you go to Display Settings, you'll see the diagram at the top of the arrangement of your monitors. Most likely it is showing one or two of them in the same box. You need to select that box and then scroll down the page and select Extend Desktop, instead of Mirror. Also, these displays won't show up unless they are actually physically connected to the laptop.
Hello, I am having trouble with my multi camera setup. I have set up my ATEM mini as you have it in this video and everything works fine until i go to change cameras. when i change cameras the lower thirds dissapear and we have to hit the "ON AIR" button on the right to get the lower third lyrics to come back. do you have any ideas on what could be causing this?
The ATEM has a Downstream Keyer (DSK) and an "Upstream" keyer tat is just called "Key 1" etc. The DSK will stay active when switching inputs as it occurs after switching. The KEY1 is applied to an input so it will follow the input and go away when you change inputs. The solution to using the KEY1 and keeping it on when switching inputs is to apply to both the active input and the next input using the keying controls.
Love your videos man! You explain everything so well! I do have a question regarding the ATEM Mini that I can’t seem to find the answer to anywhere. If we had an ATEM Mini Prowith 2 cameras and our pc using 3 of the inputs, can I use the 4th input to daisy chain an ATEM Mini and add 4 cameras to that? The way I’m thinking....the camera selected on the secondary mini will show on the livestream when the 4th input is selected on the main mini pro. Hope you get what I’m thinking.
Yes, you could do that. It will most likely add a noticeable amount of latency on that input. In other words, from input to output of the Mini will have a certain amount of processing time, so the cameras coming from the sub-mixed Mini would be further behind in time then the cameras coming in directly.
Hi. I have a question, I’m using chroma key my source is hdmi 4 (PC), hdmi 1,2,3 are cameras, when I turn on Key on the switcher I saw the lyrics but when switch to another camera the Key turn off. Can you help me to identify the problem. Thanks.
Thanks! What do you do if you don't want keying to happen for another section of the service? What if you want to present powerpoint slides that take up the full-screen and not just the lower thirds? Same with presenting videos in service for those who congregate and for those online (at the same time!)?
Just turn off the key and use that input as a full screen source from the computer. You'd need to format that part of your service to be full screen to both the projection output and the output to the Atem.
Ballast Media thanks so much! You are absolutely awesome! I see that you run both OBS / ATEM Software controls and Propresenter on the same computer. Would you recommend using one computer to run this set-up? How has it been for volunteers and their ability to do this live?
No, I would not recommend running all those things on the same computer in a production environment - I was doing that just for the purpose of the demonstration. You could run OBS and Atem Control Software on the same computer and ProP on another, that should be fine.
Ballast Media I see! Thanks so much for letting me know. I know you said that in another video but noticed the discrepancy in this particular video. Very much appreciate you friend! I pretty much set-up everything during this Covid with your awesome info. Aja u tap sdi, ATEM TVs, 3x canon r800s, and now Propresenter :)
@@seonggkim Hi, we just started doing this 6 weeks ago with our ATEM Mini Pro that we recently acquired (took 2 months to get it!) We use an HDMI splitter to receive HDMI from a laptop running PowerPoint (with videos built into the PPT slides) and then the HDMI splitter sends it to our screens for people in person, and also to our ATEM Mini Pro. Then we just use the Picture in Picture to use display the PPT slides with lyrics for songs on the live stream, and when a video is playing we cut to that camera source (the laptop) as the full screen input. Works well for us, although we've had issues with the HDMI splitter, but we've got it functioning now. Not sure if this will help you, I was watching this video to see if I wanted to get more fancy with doing lower thirds using the "Keys" (thanks Steve for the tutorial!), but to keep things simple we'll keep using Picture in Picture for now. Doing it this way means I have 1 person running the ATEM Mini to transition to camera sources (1 camera on "stage", the laptop, and still image with logo) and 1 person running slides on the laptop, and 1 person running our sound board. All volunteers running all three areas every Sunday and they have picked up the ATEM work easy. [Also with the ATEM Mini Pro we stream straight from the device, so no computer even connected to it during the service, I setup everything beforehand].
Hey Steven. Thanks for the video. Quick question for you. If we're switching between lower thirds and pulling the full projector image (eg, a video being shown to the church, or the pastor using a power point) In the event we don't want it to be in the lower thirds anymore, would we need to set up another 'output' from ProPresenter and have a switch going into the 4th plugin on the Mini? Assuming the other 3 inputs are being used for cameras?
We are using the Chroma Key option, but in Pro Presenter, when you click the clear slide button, the screen will go completely black. You will only see the video underlying, if you have text on your slide. In between songs, the tech clears the slide lyrics, and then all we get is a black video on the feed. Do I need to have the Video Input option turned on, in the Looks panel? I only have the slide option selected.
No, don't use video in the look. It doesn't seem like your chroma settings are correct on the ATEM. Black should be transparent, so if you have no words displayed, it should show everything from your camera, overlaying nothing.
Hi Stephen, I have a camera connected with an hdmi cable that works only on input 1. But i need it on input 3. the same set up doesn't work on input 2 or 3. 4 is already designated for L3's. The cable length if 40 ft. Thanks
These videos have been so helpful in upgrading our video content on a budget. Thanks for that! Our soundboard, cameras, and media computer are all in the sanctuary, but currently our recording and live stream PCs are in another building. My thought was to get the Atem Mini Pro set up in the sanctuary and have our producer just control the Atem from the other buildign using the software. But as I've found out, the issue here is that the producer doesn't have access to the multiview monitor (since I can't send the HDMI out signal that far). Do you know of any solutions aside from something like a HDMI to fiber converter to send the HDMI out signal a fair distance? Am I just missing something easy within the Atem Mini Pro?
How far is the distance from where the ATEM Mini Pro will be and where the operator will be? If you convert the HDMI out to SDI you can run that up to 300+ feet. Then just convert back to HDMI and connect to a TV.
Steven thank you for your video. I got my atem mini and a MacBook pro. What is the best way to record the video utilizing atem mini to my computer without losing resolution? I tried OBS but i lose a lot of resolution compared to when the video is recorded straight into my camera. Your video looks really nice, how did you recorded?
It's the bit rate setting. For streaming we set it between 2500 and 6000, but recording should be more like 12,000-35,000. Your camera probably records at a bit rate between 28 and 50 thousand.
Is it possible to have lower two third shown on multiple video with only 1 upstream key ? Cam 1 - Video Cam 2 - Video Cam 3 - Video Cam 4 - ProPresenter lower 2/3
Not sure I understand your question? You want to switch between the camera 1-3 while maintaining the lower third from ProPresenter? That's what I demonstrate in the video.
Woww..sir Im looking to buy atem mini pro for live streaming some record programs..it's enough for purposes? And can you please suggest good laptop or laptop spec for connect with atem mini pro
When I'm putting the lyrics in an overlay using either luma or chroma key the lyrics go away every time I switch the cameras. if I hit that camera button again they come back, but this leaves a flash at best. This is annoying because I don't want to be stuck to one camera shot during praise time. Is there a way to get it to leave the lyric overlay up, regardless of what I do with the main cameras until I turn it off? I'm using an ATEM mini Extreme.
If you are using the upstream key, put the second upstream keyer on the preview bus (with the same key source) now when you switch you'll be switching back and forth between the keys, but to the viewer it just looks like the key is staying on.
We have an older Mac connected to a projector. It seems the only video out is via a thunderbolt 2 connector. We have that connected to a thunderbolt/vga adapter. I was hoping to split the vga signal via a vga splitter and connect one signal to our projector and the other to the atem mini. from what I see here that is not gonna work as I am not able to configure the signal at the atem mini pro to display lower thirds. Am I correct?
Correct, since you are splitting the one output from your computer, you'll still just get the full screen display in to the Atem, not a different signal for lower thirds. You need two outputs from your computer.
Not tying to overlay lyrics, I just want to screen mirror. We have a Mac connected to a 2 way splitter. One side to a projector, the other side to a stage monitor. That all works fine. The stage monitor is no longer needed I unplugged the HDMI cable from it and plugged it into Cam 4 slot on the mini pro. This however did not work, any idea why not?
Try it in CAM1 input. Sometimes the Atem Mini does a better job of adjusting to a computer input on input 1. But, that being said, also what resolution and frame rate is your computer output set to?
Hi Steven! Great video as usual! could you please explain the advantaged of the Propresenter over a simple app like keynote or powerpoint to prepare my lower thirds and lyrics? It is not that clear to me why propresenter is better that the other options really available on practically any MAC or PC. Could you explain it a little more? Thank you
You can only do multiple outputs with PP6 if you have the multiple output module. If you don't already have that module, you can no longer add it (it cost more then upgrading anyways).
I don't recommend doing this. Run those on two separate, dedicated machines. (I only did that in this video for the demonstration, but not for a production environment.)
@@BallastMedia oh thanks I'm looking to buy two PC or MAC, but don't know what to choose, can you give me an example of a PC to buy, this is for my church. Thanks.
Blessings from Germany. Thank you very much for your instructive and helpful videos. We have recently started using the Atem mini pro for streaming attempts in our church. I only managed to display white text on a black background over the camera image with the help of the software (Downstream Key). We only have volunteers on the video minstry (so am I), and we want to keep it simple. The goal should be to control the Atem exclusively via the buttons on the device, without the software control. I have not succeeded in displaying white text on a black background over the camera image using the upstream key, so that black becomes transparent. It remains white text on a black background, without any transparency when the "key" button on the device is pressed. As chroma sample, i have chosen "black" from the presentation file What am I doing wrong?
If you are selecting a chroma color, you are doing a chroma key. You need to switch to luma key in the upstream keyer for black background with white text.
Yes, I thought that chosing black as chroma color for chroma keying would work for my purpose, but obviously it doesen't. I understand that the "Key" button on the the Atem mini device refers to chroma umpstream key (?). So can I tell the Atem mini to use the "Key" button on the device for luma upstream keyer rather than stucking to chroma key?
@@EberhardMunzert I ran into this issue as well and I agree the Luma keyer was not as easy to use if you are trying to avoid the ATEM software control. Specifically, I wanted to be able to switch from DVE to lower thirds Luma keying on the ATEM itself, but I couldn't. Once I switched to chroma keying with Green, the gained that capability and it has worked well.
You would have to set the output HDMI to be Program, and then you could distribute that. But you'd give up the multiview to do that. If you need to distribute video locally, I'd look at stepping up to a bigger switcher, like the Atem TVS HD.
Daniel did you ever get a replay? I am having problems using Mediashout6 with OBS and the Atem mini. The Atem mini is not communicating with Mediashout, is the video card?
Well I went and upgraded our iMac to Big Sur and now pro presenter 6 won’t work on it and pro presenter 7 is not compatible with Big Sur yet. So we’re back to hopefully making PP 6 work on Big Sur. Note to self- DO NOT upgrade anything the night before you’re needing it for service the next day!
Thank you so much for this video. It helps clear quite a few things in my head. I have one question, once the masking technique is used, can the masked overlay be moved around? (Can the lower third (seen in 11:50) be moved around? This is cause we use Easyslides in our church and the output shows the lyrics in center alignment for our local projection. I was hoping to mask that and move it to the lower third area for the live stream. Is this doable? If not, what would you suggest Sir?
hello sir i want to ask how to set atem mini pro and easyworship for live streaming but the live streaming only uses atem mini pro not using obs please help me sir i really need your help sir thank you sir god bless you sir

On TH-cam and Facebook and latter on broadcast TV if you have made any video about this all please share the link with me it's not please help me. this is Pastor Akashdeep Sharma from India
So appreciate your videos! They are a big help for us setting up our livestreaming in church.
is it possible to this using NDI instead of HDMI port?
And now the ATEM Mini Pro has programmable audio delay on the mic inputs! Yey!
Will this work?
anyone please comment!
@@BallastMedia 2 different displays. one display for the 3 TVs in the church and a second display (lower thirds) to ATEM MINI PRO ISO
I have PP7 and ATEM; do I need to use either for lower thirds for pastor title and graphics like worship and altar call; just trying to learn this
Yes, usually you'll want to send 2 outputs from PP to your ATEM.
Thank you for all of your informative videos! What would you recommend to do this with Pro6?
I don't believe there is a way anymore unless you already have the module. And purchasing the module you need would cost more then upgrading. So, upgrade to 7.
Ballast Media thank you! We ended up just using an upstream Luma flying key to display the same image from the house. Not what we want overall, but achieves the feel until we upgrade. Thank you for your videos and for your response! Blessings!
Thanks for this video. Just to be clear, this is only for production at the venue. If you wanted to live stream all of this, what would you do?
The computer with the worship software is usually run by a different person then the person running video.
Any help... We have Atem television studio (not the HD) and Pro Presenteter 6 and doesn't work for us, are we doing something wrong? Thank you
How are you sending your lyrics to the Atem? PP6 doesn't do multiple formatted outputs without a purchased add-on, so you'd have to use something like the stage display to send a black-background with your lyrics to the Atem. (They don't sell the add-on anymore because it cost more then upgrading to PP7)
Thanks for sharing Brother Steven. What are your thoughts on the Yolo box vs the Atem Mini? Are there advantages with one over the other?
So far I'd say go with the Atem Mini, cost/performance is better with the Mini Pro.
@@BallastMedia thank you
Wait, My laptop have both vga and HDMI outputs but they output the same content. How did you make your laptop output separate outputs?? 4:07
Hello sir, do you think it would be possible for me to stream a simple audio visualizer instead of lyrics using the luma keying option?
Great thanks
Hello,
I am having trouble with my multi camera setup.
Thanks.
In the Atem Setup program there is a setting that will change this behavior so it will stay on.
Awesome Video✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽🙏🏼
Thank you.
Assuming the other 3 inputs are being used for cameras?
can this be done in version 6?
We are using the Chroma Key option, but in Pro Presenter, when you click the clear slide button, the screen will go completely black. You will only see the video underlying, if you have text on your slide. In between songs, the tech clears the slide lyrics, and then all we get is a black video on the feed. Do I need to have the Video Input option turned on, in the Looks panel? I only have the slide option selected.
No, don't use video in the look. It doesn't seem like your chroma settings are correct on the ATEM. Black should be transparent, so if you have no words displayed, it should show everything from your camera, overlaying nothing.
This is super helpful. Thank you! Assuming this same technique works with the Atem TV HD?
Yes, all ATEMs have pretty much the same keying capabilities. Bigger ATEM models have more keyers, but they all operate the same.
@@BallastMedia I'll have to measure that out, but if I had to guess, it'd be closer to a couple hundred yards.
Cam 1 - Video
Cam 2 - Video
Cam 3 - Video
Cam 4 - ProPresenter lower 2/3
Not sure I understand your question? You want to switch between the camera 1-3 while maintaining the lower third from ProPresenter? That's what I demonstrate in the video.
Is it Blackmagic ATEM mini support for 4k camera...
@@BallastMedia thanks man, that's what I thought. Looks like we would have to upgrade our computer just to get another output screen.
Thank you
Hello, is this tutorial valid also for propresnter V6? Tahnks!
You can only do multiple outputs with PP6 if you have the multiple output module. If you don't already have that module, you can no longer add it (it cost more then upgrading anyways).
What computer you recommend to run OBS and ProPresenter at the same time?
I don't recommend doing this. Run those on two separate, dedicated machines. (I only did that in this video for the demonstration, but not for a production environment.)
@@BallastMedia oh thanks I'm looking to buy two PC or MAC, but don't know what to choose, can you give me an example of a PC to buy, this is for my church. Thanks.
thanks a lot
Can i use this to our system to broadcast on cable system of ys
Can you use the upstream and down stream simultaneously for a logo and lower third?
Yes!!
As chroma sample, i have chosen "black" from the presentation file
What am I doing wrong?

Is there away to distribute video from ATEM Mini Pro to different monitors?
You would have to set the output HDMI to be Program, and then you could distribute that. But you'd give up the multiview to do that. If you need to distribute video locally, I'd look at stepping up to a bigger switcher, like the Atem TVS HD.
Can I use Mediashout6 with OBS and the Atem mini to make Lower thirds? If so, please help!
Daniel did you ever get a replay? I am having problems using Mediashout6 with OBS and the Atem mini. The Atem mini is not communicating with Mediashout, is the video card?
Does this process work with Pro Presenter 6? Or do we need to upgrade to the 7 version?
You need an additional module purchase to do this in 6, and that costs more then upgrading to 7, so better to upgrade to 7.
@@BallastMedia ok I figured that was the case but thought I'd ask the expert! Thank you Sir, I do believe we'll be upgrading to 7
Well I went and upgraded our iMac to Big Sur and now pro presenter 6 won’t work on it and pro presenter 7 is not compatible with Big Sur yet.
Yes, in the Upstream Keyer there is what's called a DVE (one of the tabs, luma, chroma, etc.) That will let you do a mask, and move it around.
@@BallastMedia Awesome! Thank you so much! :)
